UMWELTFORUM HELPS
TO IMPROVE THE
ENVIRONMENT AT ŠKODA
AUTO
T
he current target, which is essential for
the strategy of ecological production at
ŠKODA AUTO, is to reduce the environmental impact for every car and every component by 55 percent by 2018 as compared with
2010. The basic monitored parameters that
every employee can improve include energy consumption, CO2 emissions, water consumption, reduction of produced waste and
emissions of volatile organic compounds
(VOC). The most visible progress can be
seen with the waste generated from the production of every car: an impressive improvement of 97.3 percent was achieved as compared with 2010.
From a long-term perspective, the regular working group meeting at Umweltforum
focuses on meeting the goals to improve
the environment. The meetings discuss the
topic of environmentally sound management of natural resources within the sustainable development strategy of GreenFuture, and the meetings are attended by all
ŠKODA AUTO departments and representatives of the KOVO Trade Unions. In addition to the measures proposed by the Innovation Team, another 880 measures with a
savings potential of 26.2 million EUR was recorded within this working group from 2013
to 2017. Thanks to the responsible approach
and efforts of the department representatives, a total of 451 measures was fully implemented, achieving savings of 9.7 million
EUR in total.
And which measures greatly contributed
to the savings last year? It was, for example, the installation of LED light fittings in
Česana, waste water saving programme in
the recreation facility Jetřichovice, air conditioning control, thermostatic heads replacement or employment of energy-saving tubes
in fluorescent lamps in the building of Offices and business trips.. RED

The toughest nut to crack was
undoubtedly the transition from
LKW to trains. We had to combine the
train timetable with the unloading,
loading, LKW transportation and the
plant’s logistics of ŠKODA AUTO and
VW Osnabrück. We had to calculate in
detail on each body for each day during
the transition period. We had to
determine which one was going on the
LKW trucks and which one on the train
so that they all arrive onsite in time.

The “Osnabrück project” posed a
new challenge for an additional use
of the already running environmental
project EDIS (Ecological Transport
Internal ŠKODA), which replaces the
standard LKW in internal transportation.
With the strong support from PL – Brand
Logistics, we are introducing the next
evolution of EDIS trailers into internal
traffic, with which we are able to
transport more bodies on one unit than
on conventional LKW trucks and without
producing CO2 emissions.
