FOR SORTING
HOW PET BOTTLES ARE PROCESSED
AT ŠKODA AUTO
T
he automotive company aims at preventing
the creation of waste and make good use of
available resources. When waste is created by
some production process, we meticulously apply
the sequence of individual approaches governing
its processing - the use of waste for material and
energy is preferred to dumping.
How we sort plastic
PET bottles including tops are gathered in clearly marked bags and containers at the automotive company. The purchasing and placement of
these containers is up to individual operations or instance, in o ces ou ll find specific trash
bins or lastic E , in other areas ou can find
bags with a distinct colour. In case of PET plastic, that colour is usually yellow. Plastic waste
prepared in this way is collected by our partner
company and delivered to a sorting line, where
undesirable types of waste are manually separated and removed. Individual PET bottles are
then divided based on colour. The sorted plastic
is pressed into bundles and moved to recycling,
where it is crushed into small a es which are
subsequently cleaned by repeated washing and
dr ing. nce the a es are clean, the are moved
to the granulating machine, where under high
temperature and pressure they are transformed
into plastic granules - a recycled material.
Products made from plastic granules are often of the same quality and just as resilient as
those made o first grade materials.
A good example
At FIS, they are also searching for how to prevent the
creation of plastic waste in administrative buildings.
Within their reduction, they are gradually stopping
the insertion of plastic bags into trash bins intended
for paper. In order to further support waste sorting,
a new graphical identification of trash bins is being
gradually implemented: blue for paper, yellow for PET
and black for general waste (see image). Right now, nonproduction premises sort paper and PET. Other plastic
waste (e.g., plastic cups from yoghurt or drinks or plastic
food containers) are disposed of in the same way as
communal waste.
Day w/o Plastics
Take part in our challenge: try to live
one day without using plastic, and
document how it goes! How? Replace
a plastic toothbrush with one made of
bamboo, have your favourite drink in
your own mug, replace plastic bottles by
glass or steel ones, go shopping without
a plastic bag, limit the purchasing of
products in plastic packs etc. You can
tell us how your day w/o plastics went
(including photos) by sending an email to:

RECYCLING OF PET BOTTLES
MAKES SENSE. THAT IS WHY
WE’RE CALLING ON YOU
TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE
PROPERLY SORTED - IT IS
ONLY POSSIBLE TO REUSE
THIS WASTE THANKS TO
YOUR CONTRIBUTION.
PET BOTTLES ARE
VERY LARGE. BEFORE
DISPOSING OF THEM
IN THE APPROPRIATE
SORTED WASTE BIN, YOU
SHOULD ALWAYS REDUCE
THEIR VOLUME. BEFORE
THROWING THEM AWAY,
EMPTY THEM, STEP ON
THEM AND THEN CLOSE
THEM WITH THE LID.
DID YOU
KNOW THAT...
... OTHER PLASTIC WASTE DOES NOT

OF ŠKODA AUTO? PACKAGING
FROM SNACKS, CUPS FROM DRINKS,
