PRODUCTION

SUPERB

Three and a half years after ŠKODA’s flagship was launched on

the market, it underwent extensive modernisation, especially

in terms of technology and design. The top SUPERB model

will now also be offered in the SCOUT version and, by the

end of 2019, will include a plug-in hybrid drive. Thanks to new

technology, like full LED matrix headlights and an extensive

offer of innovative assistance systems, the SUPERB is one of

the safest and most comfortable vehicles in the mid-size class.

KAMIQ

ŠKODA introduced the

new model in the spring

of this year at the Geneva

Motor Show. The car is

based on Volkswagen’s

modular platform and

offers modern assistance

and infotainment systems,

emotional design and

a Simply Clever solution.

Its spacious design makes

it the perfect partner

for families and modern

lifestyle enthusiasts. The

car will have engines

that meet EU6d-TEMP

standards from the

beginning of production.

TWO LAUNCHES

IN ONE MONTH

IN JULY, ŠKODA AUTO STARTED THE PRODUCTION OF THE

NEW SUV KAMIQ AND THE MODERNISED SUPERB

Š

KODA AUTO launched the

production of another two

models in the same month –

a mere five months after launching

the series production of the SCALA.

It started producing the KAMIQ

in the main plant in Mladá Boleslav, where it also manufactures

the OCTAVIA, FABIA, KAROQ and

SCALA. In addition, the series production of the modernised SUPERB

began at the Kvasiny plant. RED

LAUNCHING THE SERIES

PRODUCTION OF THE

NEW ŠKODA MODELS IS

CERTAINLY EXTRAORDINARILY

CHALLENGING FOR THE CAR

MANUFACTURER AND ITS

EMPLOYEES. NOW, EVEN

TWICE AS MUCH, SAYS

MAREK JANCÁK, PF

MANAGER – CAR

PRODUCTION.

THE THIRD SUV FROM

MLADÁ BOLESLAV

The car manufacturer has invested almost

EUR 100 million in producing the KAMIQ. It started building the pre-series vehicles in the Mladá

Boleslav plant eight months before launching its

series production. It manufactured 200 pre-series

cars for testing purposes and for improving the

whole process. This took place during the full production of the FABIA and the SCALA. The launching team modified the production line for the

MQB A0 platform. It also had new pressing tools

made. The technicians made minor changes at the

Paint Shop, the M14 Welding Shop and the M1

Final Assembly to enable the assembly of new

two-piece headlights with LED technology. Perhaps the biggest challenge for the whole team was

tightening a fully functional infotainment unit, including the navigation. After achieving full production, 400 cars leave the Mladá Boleslav plant

every day.

PAS – LEADING THE LAUNCH

OF THE SMALL PROJECTS

The upholstered threshold

that is newly included in the

STYLE model gives the KAMIQ its

sporty and modern character. This

step led not only to increasing the

frequency of installations but also to

the need to integrate the given

operation directly into the assembly

line and replace the original manual

labour. Employees from Technical

Development, as well as Production

and Logistics, created a new concept

of attaching the threshold bar.

Colleagues from Assembly Planning

then came up with a completely new

semi-automatic manipulator that is

part of the line and enables all screws

to be drilled at once. The assembly of

the threshold alone includes putting it

on the already prepared fastening

screws and attaching the threshold

from the bottom of the body.

SUPERB

FROM

KVASINY

The modernised flagship model

was manufactured on the same

production line as the KODIAQ

SUV, and its engine will meet

the same emission standards

as the KAMIQ. These new WLTP-methodology homologation regulations are valid for

the whole portfolio of models,

and they required close cooperation between the Technical

Development and Quality departments and VW Group specialists. During preparation for

series production, the launch

team had to modify the Kvasiny Paint Shop to paint two new

colours (Race Blue and Crystal

Black). Furthermore, they changed the tool to press the fifth

door so that employees could

put the word ŠKODA on it instead of the original logo. They

added equipment for calibrating

Matrix Beam headlights into

the production line and the test

room. During the launch, they

manufactured 181 pre-series

cars at the Kvasiny plat. After

reaching full production, they

expect a daily capacity of 300

cars, including the standard version and the SCOUT.

The Modernised

SUPERB on its Way

to Cina

The Chinese version of the new

model is tailored to local customers’ requirements and is visually different than the European

model in many ways. The front

and rear headlights, the inside

rear-view mirror, the bumper

and the aluminium rim are all distinctive. The interior also favours Chinese style and needs,

e.g. the size of the rear-view

mirror and the appearance of

the control panel touch screen.
