(2010–2016)

Just like in previous years, the carmaker has

significantly reduced its negative impact on

the environment. One of the company’s major successes besides the minimisation of CO2

emissions is the reduction of energy and water consumption and exemplary recycling. This

positive trend supports the Strategy 2025 programme, which focuses on electromobility,

digitisation of enterprises, products and production and new services related to mobility.

This has created conditions for long-term continued sustainable growth. It is necessary to

include extensive investments in the production of innovative technology and solutions,

taking into consideration not only the carmaker’s customers and employees but also the

environment. A major role in environmental

successes has also been played by the Green

Future strategy, which encompasses all business activities related to the environment and

ensures an effective, environmentally friendly

approach to all processes, from the production

of efficient fuel units to the production of vehicles, logistics and dealerships.

SUCCESSFUL MEASURES EVERYWHERE

Between 2010 and 2016, ŠKODA AUTO reduced its impact on the environment in the

area of production by 45.8 percent. In 2014

and 2016, energy consumption per manufactured vehicle was reduced by 8.7 percent, and water consumption was reduced

by more than 7 percent. Logistics began using electromobility and vehicles running on

compressed natural gas. In Mladá Boleslav,

battery-operated transporters were first introduced, which do not produce emissions.

Moreover, the use of trucks powered by natural gas, which produce 30 percent less CO2

than diesel fuel, has been tested. The use of

gigaliners has also been tried, which could

save up to 200 tonnes of carbon monoxide.

Between 2014 and 2016, ŠKODA AUTO reduced the production of carbon monoxide in

a model pallet by approximately 12 percent.

Savings also resulted from the transition of

the worldwide network of dealers to a new

corporate design.   RED

SAVINGS AT THE M1 FACILITY

PROGRAMMES FOR SAVING ENERGY ARE CONTINUING SUCCESSFULLY

T

he assembly of the FABIA PF-M model in

the M1 facility has become another operation of ŠKODA AUTO, which in 2017 became

involved in the QUEST energy conservation

programme. Maintenance manager Jaroslav

Horák, together with his team, managed the

task energy efficiently and responsibly. During the initial analysis, they identified 15 energy-saving measures with the potential to

reduce energy consumption worth nearly

CZK 9 million. The project is taking place in

cooperation with the external company Human Element Consulting and has been supervised by PSU/3 – Green Office.

CHANGES THAT CONSERVE

Some measures were implemented immediately. During the company-wide vacation period, for example, all 201 ventilation flaps in

the roof, through which heat had escaped

during the winter heating season, were tightened. Other measures will require lengthy

preparation and cooperation among several different divisions. These include the reconstruction of part of the ventilation system

from 1986, which has exceeded its theoretical

lifespan. Even so, its operation is 70 percent

more energy-demanding than operating new

parts. Therefore, in the near future, it will be

necessary to finance its restoration. The more

complex of the proposed savings measures

include replacing the current lighting with

modern LED designs, which are standard in

ŠKODA AUTO.

IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATION

Another of the forthcoming measures is the

division of energy consumption of other divisions located in the premises of the M1 facility. In energy management, consumption

is difficult to manage wherever it cannot be

influenced. Important rules include the submission of relevant information within the

entire division, and for this reason communi-

ENVIRONMENTAL

INNOVATORS THIS YEAR, TOO

The victory of the small municipality

of Haňovice na Hané in the E.ON Energy Globe Award competition was celebrated throughout the country. Its

town greenhouses, bio gas station

and system of using rain water are admired by visitors who travel there from

all over the country. The municipality’s officials take them on tours in a

ŠKODA OCTAVIA Combi G-TEC, which

Haňovice received as a prize for winning the competition. According to

Mayor Arnošt Vogel, this vehicle is often shared with various local associations. For the fifth consecutive year,

the ŠKODA brand is partnering with

the E.ON Energy Globe Awards (EEGA),

whose overall winner this year will receive a ŠKODA OCTAVIA G-TEC vehicle running on compressed natural gas

(CNG). The winners of individual categories and winners of the public vote

will then get yearly use of the CITIGO

G-TEC model. The ceremony at which

the results of the E.ON Energy Globe

Award competition were announced

along with the presentation of the vehicles to innovators will take place at

the beginning of October this year.

GREEN PILLARS

Environmental protection activities

have been enshrined in the Green Future strategy, which is based on several pillars. Green Product focuses on

developing the most eco-friendly vehicles, Green Retail supports eco-friendly management of dealerships, and the

last of the pillars, Green Factory, includes all production activities leading

to conservation of natural resources.   RED

n Saturday, 23 September, the 36th

annual competition for the lowest

consumption of ŠKODA vehicles, Economyrun, will take place. It is hosted by

ŠKODA AUTO and the ÚAMK - Automotoklub Škoda. This year’s race route,

which leads from Mladá Boleslav to

Vrchlabí and back, measures approximately 320 km. in total. Vehicles powered by petrol, diesel fuel and CNG will

be evaluated in their own categories

this time. The technical preparation and

inspection of vehicles are managed by

ŠKODA AUTO servicing employees in

Kosmonosy, where the race will start

and finish. The registration form and

other information can be found on the

plant’s website.  Jan Horníček
