TAKING STOCK

WITH A MOBILE

THANKS TO THE SMART COMPUTER SYSTEMS, REGULAR

INSPECTIONS ARE NO LONGER A NIGHTMARE

S

tock-taking is imposed on companies by Accounting Act 563/1991

Coll. At ŠKODA AUTO, it is carried

out in various areas: The levels of stock

material, equipment and fixed assets (computers, furniture etc.) are checked. “For

example, in the Production and Logistics

area, stock-taking is performed on the decisive date in work in progress and includes

everything that is currently being delivered

from a warehouse and ready to be used in

operation or assembled in work in progress

components,” says Jan Chochola of FCB.

Just like 25 years ago, approximately

20 percent of employees now participate in

the ŠKODA stock-taking process. However,

while at the time the carmaker produced

only one model FELICIA in two body variants, the number has increased to nine models today. In addition, the plant produces

a wide range of components, engines and

gearboxes, as well as cars in various degrees of disassembly, which are then transported for final assembly elsewhere. “Previously, stock-taking related to FELICIA took six

shifts; today, we manage it in three, and this

year, we want to reduce it by another one.

This would not have been possible without

significant involvement of the system support, which – thanks to new technologies –

replaces part of the manual work,” explains

Jiří Cee, Head of the Brand Logistics.

Stock-taking is now easier to record. The

systems directly prepare the supporting documents for acceptance because they have

an accurate picture of where the parts are,

or various technical gadgets, such as part

weighing or mobile applications, help in

this regard. “IT support will also be applied

at the end of the process. The system will

calculate the parts contained in the unfinished car components according to the

parts list and the place where the part was

captured during stock-taking,” adds Radek

Najman from IT Production Preparation.

ŠTĚPÁN VORLÍČEK

Do you know

that…

… the inventory of our unfinished

production will take place in two shifts

this year? In Mladá Boleslav, it will start

on the night from Friday, 25 October, to

Saturday, 26 October, and on Saturday

morning in Kvasiny. Its complexity mainly

lies in the fact that our assembly lines

are run to the last moment, and the

components and cars are in various

stages of completion. ŠKODA AUTO

produces up to 50,000 different car

variants per month, even if they differ

only in colour or radio equipment.

Therefore, it is not possible to predict in

advance how many and which parts will

be located at which line. Our warehouses

may be inspected continuously, through

so-called permanent inventory.

SMART ABOUT FINANCES

Introducing two more applications that you can find on

ŠKODA Space. They greatly help to reduce administration

and save time.

Three

phases

“The inventory includes

the recording of

the individual parts,

acceptance that verifies

that records have been

produced per the rules,

and final internal and

external audits. In the

past, it could have relied

on system support,

which consisted of

preparing inventory

cards whose production

represented not only

significant overhead

costs but also an

environmental burden,”

says Zdeněk Čučka from

PLO.

Employee collections

Mobile assistant

With the advent of technologies came the opportunity to cancel

paper tickets. Now, workers pass the individual items with their

mobile terminals (HDT – handheld data terminal), scan the item’s

corresponding barcode and write its physical state directly into the

system. This eliminates paperwork and rewriting and gives them an

immediate overview of the inventory status. The HDT even warns the

worker that some items still have to be inspected. The dispatch centre

also sees in real time which stage the individual centres are at. The

data are immediately available for acceptance, and it is possible to see

in which centre they have deficiencies, that some parts could not be

traced or some are still present.

Do you contribute to a good cause? If so, we

have great news for you. You can conveniently

set up and manage your contributions through

a corresponding application. You may easily and

quickly adjust your contributions every month if you

wish. As it is a financial area related to your wage

deductions, the application requires a two-level

login: with the help of a PKI chip and entered PIN or

your RSA card. You can also access the Employee

Collections application from home just by logging

into ŠKODA Space with your username and LDAP

password. You can find the Employee Collections

tile there as one of the items in @SMART Apps.

Then, you only manage your collection account and

set your contribution amounts for the individual

non-profit organisations. You can also view your

contribution history for the entire duration of your

Employee Collections. One checkbox is important:

whether you want your non-profit to know about

your contributions. This is the only way to issue and

send you a gift receipt to reduce your tax base.

Custom tweak

In recent years, mobile phones with their special SCAN4INV

application have been used to do car inventories. The application was

developed by the FIB / 5 – IT department in cooperation with external

suppliers under the leadership of Radek Najman. This application

eliminates the need to rewrite VINs into paper documents. A worker

scans a barcode or QR code with his mobile phone, which makes it

faster to do inventory. “Last year, this was an inventory of several tens

of thousands of cars standing on the factory grounds in a fraction of

the time compared with the paper period,” says Petr Grecman from

FCB. “This year, we also wish to take stock of unfinished vehicles on

the assembly line with our mobile phones. This will save at least two

hours of preparation, printing and distribution of inventory cards,” adds

Radek Najman.

Other gainful activities

The application serves all ŠKODA AUTO

employees when they report and approve other

gainful activities. It may be accessed through the

PKI chip on the MFA card via the Employee Portal

and the My HR data tile. There you report all forms

of gainful activities, which the system automatically

compares with ŠKODA AUTO’s business activities.

If it finds a match, it will generate an employer

approval request and notify you by e-mail.

Otherwise, it only records your data. You also use

the application to inform your employer of the

termination of your reported gainful activity.
