AND NEW
OPERATIONS
PILOT HALL
It is used in the construction
of both pre-series and series
cars to achieve smooth and
high-quality car production.
This workplace also plays
a role in selecting suitable
parts from internal and
external suppliers.
QUALITY CENTRE
It focuses on car safety
and functionality tests. In
addition to its regular tasks,
the centre checks highvoltage and cooling systems
and completes hybrid-drive
operational tests.
WELDING SHOP
Since the SUPERB iV features
a differently shaped floor to
accommodate its batteries,
they have modified its existing
and also installed its new
equipment on the welding line.
ASSEMBLY
Significant work was required
on the assembly line, which
received an additional
container for chassis frames
and manipulators for highvoltage and 12-volt batteries.
FINISHING WORKPLACE
The newly built workplace has
received its filling machines
and final operations section,
which exclusively concerns
the PHEV vehicles. Fully
functional cars leave from
there for their next production
phase.
WE HAVE OUR FIRST
SUPERB iV
THE VERY FIRST SERIAL PLUG-IN HYBRID IN THE ŠKODA BRAND’S
HISTORY HAS COME OFF THE KVASINY PLANT’S PRODUCTION LINE.
T
he new SUPERB iV model with its plug-in hybrid drive will be produced exclusively at the Kvasiny
plant, where the modernised
SUPERB version with purely internal combustion engines
has been coming off the same
lines since July. In addition to
the brand’s flagship model, the
plant also produces models
from the KAROQ and KODIAQ
SUV families. “The SUPERB iV
is a big step into the future. In
order to start production on our
first plug-in hybrid drive vehicle, we have consistently had
to meet the necessary requirements in Kvasiny in recent
months. Everything went well,
and the production line has delivered the result of our great teamwork,” said Dr. Michael
Oeljeklaus, Board Member for
Production and Logistics, about

the premiere. The carmaker has
been preparing for the production of its first electrified cars
since 2016 and invested approximately EUR 12 million in extensive modifications.

hybrid technology required
a number of major modifications of worksites and locations
that test new cars before handing them over to customers.
The changes mainly affected
the Welding Shop and Assembly, and a finishing workplace
was established. The newly
built training centre is also
of great importance (see Modified and New Operations).
Thanks to all these measures, the SUPERB iV may now
be manufactured on the same
equipment as the conventional combustion engine models. RED

4 ŠKODA MOBIL SEPTEMBER 2019
Steps before serial production
1
A new assembly worksite has
been established at the M6 Hall
of the Mladá Boleslav plant. It is
used to produce PHEV batteries (see
Energy for the Group), which then
proceed to Kvasiny.
2
The Welding Shop in Kvasiny
was to be supplemented with
new technologies and equipment.
The changes related to the plug-in
hybrid floor design, accommodating
a high-voltage battery.
3
The Kvasiny assembly line
has also been modified. The
carmaker incorporated the assembly
of specific parts into this line.
4
A brand-new finishing facility
designed for PHEV cars only has
been established there as well.
5
The thermal cameras and
temperature sensors in Kvasiny
will detect any potential battery
defects in time. In addition to the
assembly line, control sensors are
also located in the Pilot Hall, Quality
Centre, Logistics areas etc.
6
With the arrival of a new
product, the brand’s logistics
have had to adjust the flow of new
batteries, including their storage.
7
The carmaker solved the setup
of new processes associated
with the engines’ high-voltage
power supply. They accompanied
the production process from the
development of PHEV components
through their assembly in cars up to
quality verification.
8
9
The Kvasiny plant has produced
102 pre-serial SUPERB iVs.
The planned daily capacity is
222 cars for the classic version
and 60 cars for the hybrid one. The
SUPERB cars and KODIAQ models
are built on the same assembly line.
TRAINING CENTRE
The employee training covers
the assembly and connecting
of high-voltage components,
both in the real car and virtual
one. The training focuses on
the work safety principles
during PHEV car works.
Changes in the network
ŠKODA iV
All the electrified cars produced by ŠKODA AUTO
will feature their uniform iV designation. The letter “i”
indicates the typical features of this range: innovative,
intelligent, iconic and inspiring, and “V” means vehicle.
CZECHS GET THEIR TURN
In early September, ŠKODA AUTO started preselling its SUPERB iV model on the domestic market.
The car will be available to customers from the
beginning of next year in the Ambition, Style and L&K
trim levels, as well as in the SPORTLINE variant. Its
price starts at CZK 876,900.
ELECTROMOBILE CENTRES
The entire Czech network of ŠKODA authorised
partners is undergoing a gradual transformation.
Soon, it will be self-sufficient in terms of energy
and will strengthen the public charging station
network with its own stations. From 1 January
2020, all authorised partners will meet the
standards for selling, servicing and charging electric
cars and will become ŠKODA electromobile
centres. Customers will be offered counselling on
the purchase and operation of their electric cars,
including supplemental services, such as the home
charger purchase and installation (so-called wallbox),
accessories and counselling on energy self-sufficient
homes.
Plug-in hybrid
The car combines a combustion engine
and battery-powered electric engine.
The driver has a choice: switch manually
between engines or make the selection
automatic. Plug-in hybrid cars have helped
to reduce emissions and will make it
possible to charge from a regular outlet.
