ECONOMY RUN CONFIRMS THE
INCREASED ECO-FRIENDLY ENERGY
EFFICIENCY OF ŠKODA VEHICLES
T
he route for the 36th annual competition for the lowest consumption, hosted by ŠKODA AUTO and ÚAMK Automotoklub ŠKODA Mladá Boleslav, measured
a total of 323 km (from Mladá Boleslav to
Vrchlabí and back). A total of 51 teams appeared at the start on 23 September along
with efficient driving enthusiasts. The
winners were first announced in individual categories based on fuel: petrol, diesel and compressed natural gas (CNG).
The main evaluation criteria included actually achieved consumption. The organisers also took into consideration the average speed and the difference between the
actual and standardised consumption according to the new European driving cycle. Whenever there was a tie with respect
to CO2 emissions and consumption value,
the faster average speed was the decisive
factor. The winning crew in the petrol category with the CITIGO 1.0 MPI achieved an
average consumption of only 3.2 l per 100
km. The diesel category was led by a team
driving an OCTAVIA 1.6 TDI with an average consumption of 3.1 l per 100 km. In the
evaluation of vehicles powered by CNG,
the CITIGO G-TEC vehicle won with an
average consumption of 2.2 kg per 100 km.
The crew of Marek Tomíšek and David Kazda, completed the 323-km route in 6 hours
and 7 minutes.
Eco-friendly production
The ECONOMY RUN results confirmed the
increasing efficiency of ŠKODA brand vehicles. In 2014 and 2016, the carmaker reduced its models’ CO2 emissions by approximately 12 percent. By 2020 it wants to
reduce them by another 18 percent, and it
has committed to do so in its report on sustainable development 2015/2016. In the spirit of the GreenProduct motto, the production of extremely efficient vehicles is part
of the GreenFuture strategy, in which the
ŠKODA brand combines all activities enabling the reduction of environmental consequences of development and production of
vehicles. RED

ncreasing energy efficiency during the
drying of paint is part of ŠKODA AUTO’s
GreenFuture strategy. To this end, the
carmaker has equipped the dryers at the
paint facilities to regulate volume current.
They depend on the type of burden. Without adjusting the dryers, they work at maximum output, regardless of how many vehicles they are drying. However, if regulated,

could be reduced by 10 percent without affecting the quality of painted vehicle bodies. This could reduce the rotations of ventilators. The implemented measure was
found to lead to annual savings of 3,000 litres of water, 900 MWh of electricity and
1,400 MWh of heat energy. Expressed in

CZK 2.3 million in annual savings.
