The perfect foundation

The ENYAQ iV is the first ŠKODA model produced on the VW Group’s modular MEB platform

Designed exclusively for purely electric cars, the MEB platform has a larger wheelbase and shorter body overhangs than those designed for VW Group’s cars with combustion engines. It provides a base for electric cars of various classes, including compact cars, limousines and SUVs. All of these provide exceptional comfort and have an airy interior and plenty of luggage space.

▶ MEB vehicles do not have a gearbox, fuel tank or exhaust system.

Battery system

This is the key platform component supporting rapid charging. It consists of several different battery modules, depending on the required range. Each module houses 24 lithium-ion battery cells wrapped in outer foil. The modules have high shape flexibility, which is why they can be adapted to specific requirements.

MEB advantages

Stunning variability:

Many models of different classes will be produced on this platform, but the character of individual brands will be respected.

Extraordinary interior space:

The battery is located in the floor, and there is no central tunnel in the cars.

Different battery capacity versions:

Do you drive mainly for shopping, or do you often go on long-distance rides? The platform allows you to choose the battery best suited to your needs.

Fun behind the wheel:

Low centre of gravity and symmetrical weight distribution provide for a balanced and dynamic ride.

Inside the battery

Each lithium-ion battery cell consists of an anode, a cathode, a separator and an electrolyte. When charging, lithium ions migrate from the cathode to the anode, where they are stored. Electricity from the grid is transformed into chemical energy. When the electric engine is being used, the entire process is reversed: Lithium ions travel from the anode back to the cathode, converting chemical energy into electrical energy.

▶ The MEB platform vehicles’ engines are mounted directly on the axles.

▶ During the tests of the ENYAQ iV cars, we continued building on our experience gained from operating the already launched electrified SUPERB iV and CITIGOe iV. However, ENYAQ iV based on MEB platform comes with new functions related not only to the electric drivetrain. The tests include checking all the car’s functions. We’ve introduced online monitoring and evaluation so that, regarding the driving and functional tests, we can check the current status of the project at any time. We are using ENYAQ iV test cars in cooperation with other ŠKODA AUTO departments to verify related products. The customer charging infrastructure evaluation is one example of such cooperation.

▶ The ENYAQ iV traction batteries will have a capacity of 55 kWh, 62 kWh and 82 kWh.

▶ The batteries driving the ENYAQ iV weigh between 350 and 500 kilogrammes, depending on the selected capacity. They are being developed and produced by the VW Group and are indeed high-end batteries. Compared with other batteries that we know, like those from laptops, they have a different capacity and a long life and are exceptionally safe. A great driving experience for our customers.
