What is Happening at ŠKODA AUTO
New Chairman of the Supervisory Board
Murat Aksel, who is Member of the Group Board of Management responsible for Purchasing, has replaced Group CEO Herbert Diess as Chairman of the ŠKODA AUTO Supervisory Board. M. Aksel, who is originally from Turkey, visited Mladá Boleslav on 18 May to learn about the Czech carmaker’s history in more detail at the ŠKODA Museum. He also met with Jaroslav Povšík, Chairman of the KOVO Trade Union, who is the new Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board. In addition to Diess, Frank Witter and Bernd Osterloh, who served as the Chairman of the General and the Group Works Councils of the Volkswagen Group, also resigned from their positions as members of the ŠKODA AUTO Supervisory Board. They were replaced by Ralf Brandstätter, CEO Brand Volkswagen, and Daniela Cavallo, Bernd Osterloh’s designated successor.
One million euros to fight COVID-19
The second wave of the coronavirus pandemic has caused a serious humanitarian crisis in India. Therefore, ŠKODA AUTO, which is responsible for this region within the VW Group, has provided material and financial donations worth EUR 1 million (approximately CZK 25.5 million) to assist in alleviating the critical situation. The assistance also includes medical equipment, such as oxygen generators and liquid oxygen pressure vessels, which Indian hospitals are in dire need of.

Easy charging with POWERPASS
Along with the launch of the ENYAQ iV model on the Czech market, ŠKODA AUTO Czech Republic is also introducing a charging service using an RFID card or mobile applications. POWERPASS will offer three tariff models – Charge Free, Simply Charge and Charge Faster – with monthly fees between CZK 0 and CZK 597, and when recharging at stations, the prices per kWh will be derived from these amounts. New owners of the ENYAQ iV will receive paid annual tariffs under the most advantageous conditions.
Five-star OCTAVIA in Australia and New Zealand
The ŠKODA brand’s bestseller received the highest car safety rating from ANCAP on the Australian and New Zealand markets. In tests with conditions set in 2019, OCTAVIA scored the best in the adult crew protection category, in which it received 92 percent and ranked among the safest models on the market. The new OCTAVIA is already the 12th ŠKODA model in a row to receive a five-star ANCAP rating. This series started in 2007 with the ROOMSTER.
Ice hockey
Already at the World Cup for the 29th year
The ice hockey tournament, which started in Riga, Latvia, on 21 May and will culminate on 6 June, is again supported by ŠKODA AUTO as the main sponsor. This cooperation dates back to 1993 and is the longest major sponsorship in the history of the world sports championships. The Czech brand is also the exclusive partner of the 2021 IIHF App and Fanboard applications – a cardboard audience with the faces of real fans who cannot enter the stadium because of the pandemic.
The carmaker has provided 45 ENYAQ iV cars to the organisers of the championship in Riga, Latvia.

Electric sports car climbs to the top
Volkswagen unveiled its new ID.4 GTX electric car at a breath-taking show in the hall of the former Berlin Tempelhof Airport. The car, which was introduced by the brand’s chief designer, Jozef Kabaň (pictured), proved its dynamic and sporty character when it overcame a giant ramp with a slope of 37.5° (the twin-engine four-wheel drive definitely helped). This demonstration of the strength of the model, which will be launched this summer, was accompanied by an exceptional visual show.
Electric car factory being built in China
Volkswagen Group China has started construction on a plant in Anhui, China, that will focus exclusively on producing electric cars. Production should start in the second half of 2023, and from the beginning, it will run exclusively on green energy. Thus, the Group will already have three electric vehicle factories in China, and in 2025, it wants to supply this market with up to 1.5 million cars with new drives per year.
Motorsport
The first eSport tournament
On 16 May, the ŠKODA Training Centre in Kosmonosy hosted the first final round of the OCTAVIA RS iV Trophy 2020/2021, which is part of the new series of virtual ŠKODA eRally Cup races. Almost 500 participants had completed five qualifying tournaments in the DiRT Rally 2.0, which resulted in eight finalists. They then got behind the wheel of the ŠKODA RallySim simulators and compared their abilities in the commented race. The winner was Lukaš Matěja (pictured), who will enjoy a three-month OCTAVIA RS iV car rental.

ENYAQ iV en Route to Conquer Europe
In mid-April, the first customers bought their fully electric ŠKODA SUV in Norway, and other markets, including the Czech Republic, are gradually joining in
ilje Talsæte and her partner Øyvind Espelund have been thinking about buying a purely electric car for a long time. They were looking for one that would meet the requirements of a family with two small children, and the ŠKODA electric SUV impressed them in its VISION iV study phase. Therefore, in June 2019, they made an appointment at a local dealership to pre-order their ENYAQ iV immediately after its world premiere. On 12 April, in the city of Moss, they became the very first customers to receive the groundbreaking Czech car. They selected its 80 iV version with a Quartz grey metallic and Loft interior design. It is their first ŠKODA car, and after four weeks, they voiced their enthusiasm.
ENYAQ iV provides a very high all-day usability. I was also impressed with the boot and the Simply Clever items.

The first buyer of the ENYAQ iV car
Great interest already during pre-sales
The model first went on sale in Norway, which is the European pioneer in electromobility, and Sweden. The Dutch, German and Austrian markets followed in April. The regions in Western and Central Europe joined in May, and the ENYAQ iV started selling in the Czech Republic on 13 May. However, the dealers had already placed almost 400 pre-orders. Sales in the individual regions were supported by marketing campaigns that included special demonstrations at the dealerships. During the coronavirus pandemic, digital elements also played a key role. Therefore, one of the objectives was to attract potential customers to a website where they could compile their suitable car variant in the configurator according to their preferred battery capacity, performance and interior appearance and book a test drive.
Enthusiastic responses from customers and journalists
The ENYAQ IV raised great expectations in the German market. Prior to its launch, the model’s website had recorded over 600,000 unique visits, and almost 4,500 people booked a test drive.
In addition to the customers, importers, dealers and the media were curious about the new car as well. Therefore, its launch was accompanied by a number of responses; for example, some Swedish journalists wrote that the ENYAQ iV is currently the best electric car and predicted a great future for the model. In the Netherlands, the first responses from customers and journalists showed that they were impressed with the car’s price/performance ratio, as well as its excellent range with low electric energy consumption. The reaction of the extensive German sales network was that the carmaker perfectly managed the product training of its dealers despite numerous restrictions. The trust of the local customers is underlined by the fact that thousands pre-ordered the car before they had physically got inside. A summary of the responses can be found in the overview titled “Initial reactions to the ENYAQ iV”. ED
Initial reactions to the ENYAQ iV
The car’s quality and readiness create a very good first impression.
Successful design. Compared to competing electric cars, at first glance it looks more like a classic car.
It is excellent to drive, and its energy consumption is low.
It offers a generous interior and boot.
It features a great price/performance ratio.
The new concept of drive configuration and interior design selection is clear and understandable.
The car’s steering is excellent, among other things, thanks to its small turning radius.
Pink suits it
One of the first ENYAQ iV cars in Norway also headed to the team of champions of the local handball league – Vipers Kristiansand. The local dealer who sponsors the club supplied them with a car for the team’s needs in a paint colour that matches the handball players’ jerseys: bright pink.

Road to Five Stars
the ENYAQ iV has been rated as one of the safest cars currently available. What does this rating entail?
he ENYAQ iV T he highest possible number of five stars from the independent consumer organisation Euro NCAP has already become the standard for ŠKODA cars. However, the new fully electric SUV scored exceptionally well, and in the key category (adult crew protection), it received the highest rating of all the cars tested so far in the 2020–2022 period. The journey took almost three years and involved experts from several departments throughout the development process. The design of a fully electric car posed new challenges, such as modifying the body and chassis for heavier loads and securing the high-voltage battery from damage.
Time for a crash plan
Virtual development, design, construction and other project activities are accompanied by a number of practical tests, which are governed by the so-called crash plan. “It defines the exact number of bodies, parts and cars, their delivery dates in relation to the project milestones, production and supplier capabilities, as well as test room capacities”, explains Dušan Podzimek from EKS – Car Safety. Then it is time to carry out all the necessary tests, which culminate in the official Euro NCAP tests performed in the Spanish crash laboratory, IDIADA.
From frontal impacts to emergency braking
Euro NCAP tests are very complex and are currently divided into four areas. “The oldest one concerns the protection of the adult crew, and its rating makes up the largest share in the car’s final rating”, says Podzimek. It is based on the well-known impact tests with dummies, such as frontal collisions with a deformable barrier or a solid wall, but also a side crash into a pole. The tests include monitoring of the driver’s movement during an impact and how their head impacts with that of the passenger – a situation in which a centre airbag is deployed in the ENYAQ iV. The functionality of the headrest, and recently also post-crash safety (including, among others, the eCall automatic calling function), is also assessed.
In the category of child crew protection, frontal and side impacts on children between 6 and 10 years of age are monitored . The location and fastening of selected child seats in the individual places is also tested, including the deactivation of the front passenger airbag when using the rear-facing child seat. Several interesting tests involve the protection of vulnerable traffic participants, such as pedestrians and cyclists. The probability of an adult’s or a child’s head, thigh or lower leg sustaining an injury when hitting various parts of the car is monitored. The automatic braking system is also thoroughly tested in both day and night scenarios.
The ENYAQ iV is equipped with numerous assistance systems that are also covered by the Euro NCAP rating. The correct unbuckled seat belt signalling function and driver fatigue detection function is verified, and the accuracy of speed measurement and road sign recognition is checked. Various scenarios also test the Lane Assist function and emergency braking to limit the risk of a collision with another car. ED

Experience Beats Myths
The foremen and the technical and economic staff got to know the practical and theoretical aspects of the ENYAQ iV
eople have various ideas and myths about electromobility, but for the time being, very few drivers can boast of any personal experience. That is why the carmaker prepared its Enthusiasm for eMobility programme (see the column), which also included product training for the ENYAQ iV model. It was used to increase awareness of cars with electric drive, and an exciting component was a ride in the ŠKODA brand’s new electric flagship.
16
ENYAQ iV cars were available for test drives.
30
kilometres were driven on various types of roads by every course participant driving the new electric SUV.
1,248
employees were able to participate in their product training in Mladá Boleslav, Kvasiny and Vrchlabí.
The training took place in April and May under strict hygienic conditions. The first part included theoretical training, during which experienced lecturers presented the most common myths about electromobility. ”It was about the actual range and safety of cars and the ability to recharge or recycle the car battery, as well as the ecological footprint of production. The course participants were also interested in, for example, whether the power grid could handle the coming wave of electric vehicles and whether the state will subsidise them”, explains Renata Cihlářová from the SEA/2 – Technical Training and Subsidiaries department.
Most importantly, however, the course participants gained practical experiences with charging and driving the ENYAQ iV in regular traffic on various kinds of roads (during their training in Mladá Boleslav, they drove on highways as well) and became acquainted with the Laura digital assistant and the new assistance systems. “On a closed track, they completed a slalom, which tested the car’s manoeuvrability, and they could try the maximum acceleration and panic braking (intense braking in front of an unexpected obstacle – ed.)”, adds Cihlářová. At the end of their course, the participants completed a questionnaire on electromobility and discussion with their lecturers. “The reactions to the car were very positive, and numerous participants confirmed that they would like to buy the ENYAQ iV. At the same time, however, the evaluation shows that there is a need to constantly raise awareness of electromobility and its impact on the environment – throughout the company”, notes Cihlářová. There will be another opportunity this autumn when the Electromobility and Ecology online course becomes available to employees. It will include actual statistical operating data. ED
Enthusiasm for eMobility
The programme, whose goal is to raise employees’ awareness of electric drive, is divided into three groups.
1.

ŠKODA AUTO in Belgium
A typical customer of the ŠKODA brand in Belgium is a family that has a relatively high education and income, lives in a suburban area and commutes to work in the city. Over the past five years, the sales network in the country has undergone significant restructuring and optimisation, which will only continue. The Czech carmaker has a long tradition in Belgium, and the importing of cars was maintained even at the time of the Iron Curtain. In the 1990s, the country’s market position was also helped by the fact that Belgians Dirk van Braeckel and Luc Donckerwolke were the designers of the first generation of the OCTAVIA and FABIA models.

The Company’s Voice
ŠKODA AUTO’s internal and external communication teams now function as a single GKU unit
ou can ensure the company’s communication is uniform only when the relevant departments work closely together, exchange information in real time and work as a whole. That is why ŠKODA AUTO’s management decided on 1 June 2021 to merge Corporate Communication and Internal Communication under the newly established GKU – Corporate Communication department. They both deal with the same or related topics and differ only in their target groups. While the former communicates through the media and is oriented towards both professionals and the general public, the so-called “interka” targets employees. The newly established department informs about news and current events at the company and its individual plants, the company’s economic and strategic direction, as well as digitisation, and it also deals with the topics of ecology, social responsibility, sponsorships and promotional work involving the carmaker’s history and the role it plays in culture and sports. The outputs of their work appear in articles and programmes of Czech and international media, as well as ŠKODA AUTO’s corporate media, or at various events, such as the annual press conferences, roadshows and live broadcasts. In all these communication channels, they co-create the true and attractive image of the biggest Czech company. ”During the dramatic period of the COVID-19 pandemic, it became clear how important quick and accurate communication is – not only on the outside but, above all, also communication inside the company. The situation changed from hour to hour, and if we hadn’t been able to deliver practical information about changes in the company’s operations to our employees on time, the carmaker’s life would have stopped”, explains Tomáš Kotera, Head of the GKU department. Since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, his team has been available to the specialist departments across the company seven days a week. It helps them to overcome the many complications brought about by the unprecedented situation. In cooperation with other professional areas, for example, they quickly applied a new SMS communication channel for all the employees. ED

Green Future
Together against Climate Change
To celebrate Earth Day, ŠKODA AUTO joined the #Project1Hour Group initiative
ollowing the “My Step to Zero” motto, the VW Group invited all its employees around the world to reflect on how they contribute to reducing their environmental footprint. A one-hour workshop was organised for employees to share how they protect the environment. The main part of the workshop, which lasted exactly one hour, consisted of an introductory video, a climate quiz, a quick carbon footprint test and a joint debate over the individual or team measures.
The initiative has sparked more than 100 voluntary commitments by our employees to reduce their carbon footprint.
The employees of ŠKODA AUTO and its subsidiaries, as well as representatives from the Indian region, took part in the discussions. “As an international carmaker, we are well aware of our responsibilities for the climate and environment. Through the #Project1Hour initiative, we’ve sent a signal about the responsible and sustainable use of natural resources. On this occasion, we showed how we as a team can work together to reduce our environmental footprint”, says Thomas Schäfer, Chairman of the Board of Directors. In the indirect area, online team interviews took place via MS Teams and Skype. Individuals or teams that have set their personal or team climate commitments could further share them via the Group’s Start Your Climate Action platform. The participation of direct area employees was voluntary and was possible in two ways until the end of April: Employees could take part in the event at any time via the project information page on ŠKODA Space, and outside of their working hours, they could log into the workshops or meetings via MS Teams and Skype by using their private accounts.
A number of measures came out of these discussions – see the “Employee climate commitments” column for more information. ED

Digital Leap Forward
At the end of April, ŠKODA presented its new products at the Auto Shanghai car show
he first full-fledged car show with visitors from the public since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic took place in Shanghai, China. ŠKODA AUTO used this opportunity to show Chinese customers the new products for the local market in person. In addition to the OCTAVIA PRO model, which is, among other things, longer than its European version (read more in the April 2021 issue of ŠKODA Mobil), it mainly concerned new digital technologies.
The OCTAVIA PRO was also presented in two new exclusive shades: elegant Nebula Blue and fresh Peppy Orange.
At the car show, the carmaker presented a completely new digital intelligent architecture, MQB EVO, which is also used by the new OCTAVIA PRO. It includes a wide range of electronic and digital elements that move ŠKODA cars into a new era of mobility. The car’s internal network has a response time that is four times faster than the previous generation; as a result, the car can collect more data and respond even better to external events. For example, thanks to the Lane Change Assistant, the detection distance has been extended from 30 to 70 metres, and the automatic shifting and response of the Adaptive Cruise Control ACC have also accelerated.
Other models displayed at Auto Shanghai included the SUPERB, KODIAQ and KODIAQ GT in the innovated range for 2021. These are the first cars equipped with the new ŠKODA Intelligent Connectivity System, which improves the way that customers use mobile connectivity features. The system is based on the ŠKODA APP on-board application with five key functions: Smart Voice, Smart Navigation, Smart Entertainment, Smart Journey and Smart Control. RED

Production settings for electric cars
Action field F4 – Capacities and Products currently responds to the challenges set by the Green Deal for Europe (see the April 2021 issue of ŠKODA Mobil). The European Union introduced it at the end of 2019, and it sets very strict CO2 emission limits for newly sold cars. These limits assume that by 2050, no new internal combustion engine cars will be sold on the territory of the EU member states. These changes will also gradually affect countries that are important car markets for ŠKODA; for example, the United Kingdom plans to ban these cars as early as 2030, with France, Spain and Portugal following suit within 10 years. “This is one of the reasons why, together with our colleagues from the expert departments, we’re looking for concepts to help us transform our operations into the production of electric cars as quickly and effectively as possible. We face a great challenge, which will be reflected not only in changes to the ŠKODA brand portfolio but also in changes to the production and structure of our halls or plants”, says Veronika Sedláková from the PPS-4 – Planning Service department. “We firmly believe that together we will successfully handle this challenge”, she adds.
Electric car production differs fundamentally from the production of a car with an internal combustion engine: from the Press Shop (hot pressing of parts) through the Body Shop (completely different platform), Paint Shop (due to the use of structural aluminium parts, the drying time is significantly extended) and Car Assembly (this involves the installation of a battery weighing several hundred kilogrammes) up to the logistics of new parts, including completely different components (electric motors, batteries). ED
BY 2025, ELECTRIC CARS SHOULD MAKE UP 13 PERCENT OF šKODA’S MODEL PORTFOLIO.

The carmaker is constantly increasing the level of globalisation and responding to this trend with its F7 action field F7 – Regionalisation. The goal is to increase the number and diversity of international teams. Another goal is to expand and transfer knowledge to the employees of those regions for which ŠKODA AUTO is responsible (India, Russia, North Africa) or with which the P – Production and Logistics area cooperates (China, South Africa, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Mexico and Brazil).
International teams
Even during the pandemic, the individual production departments supported the international team composition (workers, interns and trainees). They did all this with their objective to fill 1 percent of technical-administrative positions with foreign workers by 2025. Lectures by experts at universities in foreign countries have become an important tool in recruiting these workers. For example, this year, there will be a total of 12 online lectures.
Expanding RMP to the regions
Support through the Role Model Programme (RMP) is equally important. With this programme, managers consolidate our values and corporate culture through open interaction with their foreign colleagues. For example, innovative breakfasts in the regions of Russia and India (three of them have already taken place this year) have become a traditional platform for managers meeting with talents. Thus, the RMP execution contributes to improving the work and personal ties with employees abroad.
Promoting diversity
At the same time, regionalisation builds on the VW Group’s activities to promote diversity and equal opportunities for women and men worldwide. One of the objectives is to increase the share of women and support female talent for management. In 2025, 15.9 percent of management positions in the Production and Logistics area should be filled by women. ED
FORCE Academy
FORCE Academy
FORCE Academy
New training of the Production area employees focused on the activities of the FORCE Program Action fields
he PSI-P – Production System Department offers its employees already established training courses that focus on Lean methods (lean production: only what the customer requires is produced; thus, waste is minimised – ed.). Since 2012, these training courses have taken place at the Lean Centre building and have been attended by tens of thousands of employees, mostly from the P – Production and Logistics area. Last year, PSI-P decided to adjust both the offer and the content of the training regarding the new production directions and expanded it with topics related to the FORCE Program. The new training courses place more emphasis on practical use. They familiarise their participants with the contents of the individual action fields and prepare them for new challenges. The concept of FORCE Academy education consists of a qualification pyramid and its individual thematic blocks. The basis of every training course is still lean production, but otherwise, they differ in their depth and focus of information with respect to the target group. During any of these courses, their participants can test their theoretical knowledge via interactive game – production simulator. The individual training modules will start depending on the current epidemiological situation, the Basic training will run from the end of May, and the Starter and Expert modules will be launched in September. PSI-P will gradually include other thematic blocks by 2022. ED
Starter
This module is intended primarily for new employees, secondary vocational school students and other students, since it only deals with the basics of the production system, optimisation and FORCE Program.
Basic
The training course supports the team coordinators and replaces the original three-day block of compulsory VSŠ Practitioner qualification. It lasts two days and mainly focuses on practical use. “Most of the information will be obtained by the coordinators during a truck assembly simulation in which we used the original game and expanded it with mechanical production and new models”, says Šárka Smýkalová from PSI-P.
Expert
This is completely new and takes the form of a two-day training course for foremen. In addition to lean production, it familiarises its participants with the practical use of the Industry 4.0 elements and the individual action fields of the FORCE Program. It includes the simulation of an assembly line simultaneously producing a truck model and a drone.
You can register for all the training courses via the Web catalogue or ŠKODA Space.

We Are Committed to Diversity
The eighth OPEN TALK discussion meeting focused on diversity at ŠKODA AUTO
n Thursday, 13 May, another one of this year’s discussions took place in the form of an online broadcast from the ŠKODA Museum. More than 100 employees of ŠKODA AUTO and its subsidiaries watched and actively participated in the debate. The topic of diversity was jointly discussed by Thomas Schäfer, Chairman of the Board of Directors; Maren Gräf, Board Member for HR Management; Jana Šrámová, Head of SB – Operative HR Care, Digitisation, HR 4.0 in charge of diversity projects at the carmaker; and Michal Kadera, Head of SR – External Affairs. The event was moderated by Sandra Kulková from SE – ŠKODA Academy.
At the beginning, the guests presented how the company’s management views diversity at the carmaker, how much it affects the company’s culture and strategy and what importance they see in including it by implementing the diversity principles in the individual teams. “Diversity is important and will play an important role in the entire ŠKODA AUTO transformation process”, said Maren Gräf. Then, Jana Šrámová presented diversity projects that ŠKODA AUTO supports or that work or are being developed by the carmaker (see Diversity Drives Innovation). In this context, she highlighted the diverse community of volunteers among employees who are involved in individual projects across all the departments.
During the transmission, employees could send questions to the discussion participants on the Slido platform. They mainly related to the position of women at ŠKODA AUTO, their career growth, the carmaker’s support of employees from minority communities, working with bias etc. Questions that were not addressed during the transmission will not go unanswered, however, as the ŠKODA Academy handed them over to the relevant departments to continue working on them. ED
A recording of the discussion can be found in the Media Library section of the ŠKODA Space.
Coronavirus – Vaccination
coronavirus
Don’t Hesitate to Get Vaccinated
Vaccinations against COVID-19 are advancing swiftly, and registration is now open to all the people over the age of 30. For younger people, vaccinations will start in June.
he best option is to use large-capacity, state-run vaccination centres. ŠKODA AUTO and the KOVO Trade Unions are very concerned about the health of each employee, which is why they jointly support the covid-19 vaccination. The cooperation takes the form of personal assistance at the Klaudián Hospital in Mladá Boleslav, and assistance is also being prepared for the vaccination centres in Rychnov nad Kněžnou. Vaccination is crucial even as the number of newly infected people in the Czech Republic is gradually declining. Vaccines, whose efficiency and safety have been demonstrated in clinical trials, are the only barrier against the possible arrival of another wave of coronavirus. By getting vaccinated, you protect your own, your loved ones’ and your colleagues’ health. If you are an active employee and are getting or have already been vaccinated against COVID-19, you will receive 300 points for the Cafeteria ŠKODA Benefits. RED
Are you already vaccinated?
For the time being, all currently valid measures at ŠKODA AUTO still apply to those employees or premise visitors who have already been vaccinated. The carmaker will inform you of any changes in due course.
ŠKODA AUTO,in close cooperation with the KOVO Trade Union, calls on all employees to get vaccinated within the state-organised system as soon as possible.
How to register for a vaccination
1
If you are over 30, register as soon as possible at registrace.mzcr.cz.
2
You can easily check the currently available vaccination dates in the Central Reservation System of the Ministry of Health at ockoreport.uzis.cz.
3
At many locations, waiting times are currently very short; therefore, we recommend that you check several available locations to get the earliest possible vaccination date.
4
If you are under 30, monitor, for example, ŠKODA Space to learn when vaccinations will be released for other age groups and then register as soon as possible.
Relaxation of measures against COVID-19
In accordance with government regulations, outdoor respiratory protection is no longer required if an employee or premise visitor is at least 2 metres away from other people.
However, protective equipment is still part of the daily gear required by employees, and the carmaker recommends the preventive use of respiratory protection even outdoors, especially when contact with others can be expected (e.g. when changing shifts or on the way to the cafeteria).
The relaxation of the measures only applies to outdoor areas; however, the obligation to wear a respirator at bus stops remains in force.
Smoking is still prohibited on all ŠKODA AUTO premises, both indoors and outdoors, including designated smoking areas.
Although the epidemic situation is improving, we are still not out of the woods, and personal responsibility and the basic principles of the fight against a pandemic must not be ignored.
Follow the current information in the COVID-19 Signpost on ŠKODA Space. You can also e-mail your questions with the subject line “Extraordinary Situation” to interni.komunikace@skoda-auto.cz.
Here you can find an updated list of effective measures.
Diverzity
Diversity
Diversity drives innovation
All the ŠKODA AUTO areas are running diversity projects
aving teams with a diverse composition benefits companies in several ways. It helps to increase efficiency and creativity, reduce employee turnover and attract new talent. It also significantly contributes to improving communication and creating a motivating work environment. Last but not least, it develops loyalty, intercultural skills, teamwork, flexibility, responsibility and more. ŠKODA AUTO fully supports diversity and focuses on five pillars: gender equality, culture and origin, intergenerational cooperation, individual skills and diversity of thought. How is it doing in this regard, and which projects oriented around gender equality (women, female talent) and intergenerational cooperation (parents, pupils, staff) has its diverse community prepared under the auspices of SB/5 – Transformation and HR 4.0? RED
Annual Diversity Report
The 2020 Annual Diversity Report is published together with this issue of ŠKODA Mobil issue and can be downloaded for free from ŠKODA Space or in the attachments section at www.skodamobil.cz.
Diversity projects are a good starting point for a bold effort to take this topic to a higher level at ŠKODA AUTO – for example, in the NEXT LEVEL ŠKODA programme.
Women
Safe parking
The new Ptácká parking house has 15 safe parking spaces for women that are located near the exits and well lit. The project was prepared by a working group from the F (Finance and IT) and E (Technical Development) areas with help from specialist departments across ŠKODA AUTO. The official final approval of parking spaces in Česana took place on 8 March of this year on International Women’s Day.
Masculine and feminine principles in teamwork
At the carmaker, the smallest number of women work in the E (Technical Development) area, where the work environment is dominated by the principle of masculinity. That is why a pilot project is taking place there to consciously combine masculine and feminine principles in the work environment. The goal is to involve women in the cooperation and, thus, enrich the resilience of the individual teams. The pilot project’s backbone consists of four online workshops for six pairs of men and women, regardless of the hierarchy in the company. The last of these will take place in the autumn; subsequently, the project will be expanded to other ŠKODA AUTO areas.
Female Talent
Consultation programme for female talent
This consultation programme is in the pilot phase and will serve to support female talent. Female managers at ŠKODA AUTO will inspire women to manage their own development, maximise their potential, develop their skills, appropriately divide their energy between the demands of personal and professional life and make good decisions regarding their future careers. Last year, a consultation pilot run took place with the support of Jana Šrámová from SB – Operational HR Care, Digitisation, HR 4.0 and Eva Kancnýřová from VTK – Customer Centre. This year, the programme will run live.
Mentoring female talent
The idea that emerged from the February Diversity MeetUp dedicated to topics relating to the support and development of women in management and on their way to management is also in its pilot phase. The project is based on the assumption that each Board Member will become a mentor for one or two female talents for management. The SB/5 team is now preparing a project concept and expects it to be launched in the second half of the year.
Parents
Baby Office
This concept would allow parents to better combine their work and private responsibilities. It would be a special space for children aged between 3 and 12 and would be used, for example, when schools are closed or on other similar occasions. Its capacity would be managed via a booking system. The concept began to be considered following an initiative from employees; 84 percent of respondents stated that they would use the service, and 95 percent saw it as a benefit to combine work and private life.
Welcome Back on Board
During the pandemic, webinars for employees currently on maternity or parental leave replaced in-person pre-employment training. They were established with the aim of regularly informing parents who plan to return to work about the current events in the carmaker, possibilities regarding benefits, education, health care etc. Three of them had already taken place by April 2021.
Junior Taxi
The purpose of this service is to help employees to take care of their children and grandchildren. A specially marked taxi would drive around Mladá Boleslav and its surroundings and transport children between home, school and after-school clubs. Taxis would be operated only by specially trained drivers, and cars would also have certain safety features (e.g. the ability to track the car’s route, a camera in the car etc.). The project was initiated by employees who took part in a survey at ŠKODA Space where more than three-quarters said that they would use such a service in the future. The project is overseen by a team from the F (Finance and IT) area.
Guide
In February 2020, the carmaker published a guide to maternity and parental leave. This practical guide helps not only new parents but also their immediate supervisors with the processes of leaving and returning to work, legal deadlines, education and so forth.
Pupils
Online workshops
The ŠKODA Academy has prepared a series of online workshops for pupils in secondary vocational schools. The first, Understanding Diversity and Inclusion, focused on explaining diversity, inclusion and human rights. The second one focused on experiential learning, working with bias, social media and fake news. In the last one, Living Library, representatives of minority groups (a woman who is a former drug addict, a homeless man, a trans man, an HIV-positive person, a woman who had converted to Islam and a disabled woman) told their stories. Pupils had open discussion with them, and no topic was taboo. When meeting people who are struggling with bias, the pupils were given space to form their own opinions and shape their attitudes about diversity.
Employees
How do you see it
In the coming months, the Car Production and Human Resources Management departments are planning a pilot project that will address diversity within the ŠKODA AUTO strategy for 2030. The first step will be a questionnaire survey of 500 respondents, primarily in the P (Production and Logistics) area. Voluntary and anonymous surveys will map how employees perceive the topic of diversity, so that its development can be measured in the future.
Cooperation with others
Diversity Charter
In 2019, ŠKODA AUTO joined the signatories of the European Diversity Charter. It was signed on behalf of ŠKODA AUTO by Jana Šrámová, Head of the SB department. The European Diversity Charter is an employer initiative aimed at promoting diversity in companies and institutions.
Czechitas
Over the past four years, the Czechitas organisation has earned a good reputation in IT education for women and children. This non-profit helps to fight the cliché that women, IT and technology do not match. IT is still one of the fastest-growing fields on the labour market, and new positions open up every day. However, only a small number of women graduate from technical universities. ŠKODA AUTO offers women the opportunity to learn and grow in the five pillars of diversity, which is why it has joined forces with Czechitas.
Pride Business Forum
On the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, which, as every year, fell on 17 May, ŠKODA AUTO became a member of the Pride Business Forum. It supports employers in their efforts to treat all their employees fairly, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity.
European Diversity Day
On the World Cultural Diversity Day for Dialogue and Development taking place on Friday, 21 May, the European Diversity Day conference was held in the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament with the participation of the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Thomas Schäfer, and Board Member for Human Resources Management, Maren Gräf. It was organised by the national coordinator of the Diversity Charter – Business for Society with support from Markéta Pekarová Adamová, who is an MP and the leader of TOP 09, as well as Senator Šárka Jelínková. The conference was organised with the support of the European Commission and in cooperation with the German Diversity Charter. This year’s event focused on international cooperation and networking in diversity and inclusion, reflecting on the impacts of COVID-19 on employers and people at work.

IN ACCORDANCE WITH REGULATIONS AND ACTING FAIRLY
At the internal level, the VW Group presented its Annual Report for 2020, which describes employees’ breaches of work discipline and the disciplinary actions taken
n the affected companies, a total of 3,572 warnings were issued and 666 employees were terminated (see the “Statistics” column). This procedure demonstrates that a company can only be successful if it acts fairly, according to legal regulations and with constant and paramount consideration for the customer. This is the only way to avert damage to the company itself, its employees and business partners.
Case study
This approach is also demonstrated by the employees’ willingness to follow the extensive protective measures taken to combat the risk of coronavirus infection. Despite a large number of new regulations, no serious offenses were reported in 2020 in relation to protection measures against the spread of COVID-19. Nevertheless, specific instructions and warnings were issued inside the VW Group because of non-compliance with internal protection regulations by individual employees. ED
Gunnar Kilian
VW Group Board Member for Human Resources Management and Head of the Group’s anti-epidemic crisis group
At the VW Group, the safety and health of employees is our No. 1 concern. Therefore, we’ve repeatedly modified anti-coronavirus measures and hygiene practices and adapted to current developments during the pandemic. As a result, since the spring of 2020, we have managed not only to prevent chain infections in the workplace but also to achieve a significantly lower number of infection cases in our plants than in the cities and regions.
Guideline for internal protection regulations can be found here.

Statistics
In 2020, a total of 3,572 written warnings were issued by the VW Group (62 companies with more than 1,000 employees each). As a result of activities that violated the companies’ regulations, an employment relationship was terminated with 666 employees. The companies concerned, including ŠKODA AUTO, employ a total of approximately 475,000 people.

Together4Integrity – The Stories of Integrity
Together4Integrity / The Stories of Integrity
Mission, Not Only Work
Firefighters not only have each other’s back but also help other people, says Zbyšek Orzech, who coordinates the ŠKODA AUTO fire brigade.
byšek Orzech became a volunteer firefighter 20 years ago, and when he started working for ŠKODA AUTO, he already knew the field perfectly. However, he does not consider firefighting a job, but rather a mission. As a coordinator, he is currently more concerned with administration than the practical firefighting profession, which represents a new challenge for him. “My goal is to have high-quality and highly professional firefighters on the team and to provide them with adequate working conditions, which I think I’m managing well”, explains Orzech. There has to be a high degree of cohesion between the firefighters – they have each other’s back. Therefore, he strives to unite the whole team and defend its interests. “However, my highest priority is to ensure that all my subordinates and ŠKODA AUTO employees return home every day in good health”, he says.
According to Orzech, situations in which they would face a choice between following the rules and adhering to their personal beliefs are more or less non-existent with firefighters. “We’re not only ŠKODA AUTO employees but, above all, professional firefighters, and our actions are bound by very strict legislation. We take all our steps with a clear conscience and with regard to the responsibility we bear”, he continues. All the people who work for the rescue services must show great discipline. It can’t be done without it. Discipline goes hand in hand with will. “It is important for me to have a goal that I want to achieve. As far as the aforementioned responsibility is concerned, we simply have to have it within us. We carry it not only for ourselves but also for our colleagues and no less for other people when we’re deployed to fight a fire”, adds Orzech. ED
Together4Integrity – SURVEY
survey
Integrity and Compliance Survey
How can you vote from 31 May to 13 June?
round the end of May and the beginning of June, a survey on integrity and compliance will be conducted at ŠKODA AUTO and other VW Group companies (see the May 2021 issue of ŠKODA Mobil). The questionnaire contains 20 questions divided into four areas: acting according to moral principles (integrity) and in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations (compliance) in our company, within team cooperation, in my daily work and my personal contribution.
Who: All active core ŠKODA AUTO employees can vote in the survey. In addition to Czech, English and German, the survey is also available in Ukrainian and Polish. The results will be evaluated at the level of the entire carmaker.
How: The vote will take place on the same platform as the Stimmungsbarometer survey, but these are two completely independent surveys. You can log into the application from a work or private computer via the link provided on the ŠKODA Space portal, or you can visit one of the 45 voting points at the carmaker’s Czech plants (Mladá Boleslav, Kvasiny and Vrchlabí), where trained assistants will help you to log in. Owing to the current situation, appropriate hygienic measures will be taken at the individual voting points. Information on where the individual voting points are located can be obtained in Weekly No. 21/2021, on the survey’s portal page or from your immediate supervisor. ED
How to vote from home
If you decide to vote from your private device, a link on ŠKODA Space will help you to do that. Given the current epidemiological situation, we recommend using this option.
Open the www.skodaspace.cz portal and enter your DZC username and LDAP password. Detailed instructions for resetting the LDAP password and connecting to the ŠKODA Space can be found in the May 2021 issue of ŠKODA Mobil.
After logging into ŠKODA Space, you can use the link in the article on this topic or in the info ribbon to take the survey. Alternatively, you can select the Integrity and Compliance Survey link in the Favourite Applications on the home page of the Employee Portal.

Mobility services on the rise
The HoppyGo and Uniqway car sharing projects and the Citymove application announce several new highlights
he ŠKODA AUTO DigiLab Innovation Centre is also preparing to expand its mobility services by offering new features and making the user experience more comfortable.
Uniqway in Mladá Boleslav
Despite the pandemic, student car sharing was successful last year. The system registered about 12,000 bookings, and the cars covered a total of about 400,000 km. Therefore, the project was significantly expanded, and the Prague fleet grew by 15 cars to 37 SCALA, FABIA, CITIGOe iV and now also ENYAQ iV models. Students of the University of Economics, the Czech Technical University, and the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague are taking part in the development and operation of the service. Until now, it has only been available in the capital city. However, this is changing, and now, in cooperation with ŠKODA AUTO University, it is also heading to Mladá Boleslav. Here, too, students stand behind it – in addition to running a fleet, they also take care of marketing and events, as well as building the Uniqway community at the university. The service can also be used by the carmaker’s interns, regardless of the university at which they are enrolled.
Even smarter Citymove
The mobile application developed by ŠKODA AUTO DigiLab has become popular with drivers in Prague – for example, for convenient parking search and payments. It also advises people on choosing the best route for their trip and recommend the most convenient means of transport. Now, it has started to use artificial intelligence developed by the Israeli start-up, ANAGOG, in which ŠKODA AUTO has a stake.
Citymove can evaluate the user’s behaviour and preferences and notify them of advantageous offers of services or goods based on their location (e.g. refreshments, fuel or car wash). All sensitive data remain exclusively on the phone, and the application does not send them anywhere. Another novelty is the real-time display of the movement of public transport vehicles (i.e. buses and trams).
HoppyGo heads to neighbouring countries
The platform for owners to share their cars with people who need to rent them was a great success last year. Interest in car rentals increased by a record 81 percent, the average car rental length increased to 4.2 days, and the number of registered users increased to more than 100,000. Therefore, ŠKODA AUTO DigiLab decided to take the platform abroad and is now also available in Bratislava, Slovakia, and its surroundings, as well as all the major cities in Poland. In both countries, HoppyGo plans to ultimately cover the entire market and become the No. 1 in this type of shared mobility. “The goal is to provide the widest possible public with easy and affordable access to mobility through our platform while offering car owners the opportunity to earn passive income by renting their car. By connecting both parties, we also help to make efficient use of already manufactured cars, thereby contributing to reducing the impact of mobility on the environment”, points out Jarmila Plachá, Head of ŠKODA AUTO DigiLab. Learning and Feedback Assistants
New applications provides support to teams: Survio creates smart questionnaires, and Mentimeter is used for interactive presentations
urvio, a start-up in the Czech Republic, offers an easy-to-use online platform for creating questionnaires. It also includes distribution and complete answer analysis tools. You may create your own questionnaires, or you can use templates. They can be placed on the Web or Facebook profiles, and results can be monitored in real time. “We’re introducing the Survio application to all employees from June onwards, as the demand for surveys and questionnaires at the carmaker keeps growing. It is a modern platform for creating questionnaires, which can be completed from computers, as well as smartphones and iPads. Our department will provide system support for this tool and will manage access to it”, explains Michaela Navrátilová from the SB/4 – Digitisation and HR System Support department.
Education through gaming
Mentimeter is a rapidly growing Swedish start-up and has devised a program for creating presentations that allow real-time responses. Its benefits are clear at a time when people are working and learning remotely. For example, the application expands online collaboration during learning with an opportunity for students or public to answer questions anonymously. Another benefit involves content sharing in real time via mobile devices during presentations and surveys or when looking for ideas during discussions, meetings, lectures and conferences. “We’ve been using Mentimeter for about a year; so far, we’ve used it in a limited mode during classes. However, we expect to use it throughout the entire company in the future. One of the great expansions is so-called gamification, which is the use of interactive game elements. The second benefit is anonymity, which also allows less communicative or more introverted employees to provide us with feedback during our courses. Last but not least, we use the application as a kind of light-weight anonymous questionnaire system; for example, when we collect responses and evaluations after a one-off event, meeting etc.”, describes Vilém Nájemník from the SE – ŠKODA Academy department. How do the specified game elements work? For example, if the lecturer wants to strengthen the memorisation of some knowledge during his course, he will organise a competition among the students, and they can then look for the right answer in real time. In this way, they will better retain the new knowledge. RED
How to start using the applications
Survio
Those interested in using this application have to complete an electronic application for membership in a corresponding LDAP group, which provides both internal and external employees with Survio administrator rights. The administrator can then create and manage questionnaires or use the tools to distribute and analyse them without any restrictions. The department will pay EUR 150 a year to use the application. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to michaela.navratilova@skoda-auto.cz.
Mentimeter
The application currently operates in a pilot phase with a limited scope. If you are interested and would like to try it out, contact the ŠKODA Academy, where they will discuss everything with you and show you the options. Send an e-mail to vilem.najemnik@skoda-auto.cz.
Novelties in the KOMPAS System
The new personnel system is constantly expanding. Read what is new.
he KOMPAS personnel system began to serve the ŠKODA employees in the second half of August last year, and since its launch, it has included functions referred to as managerial and employee self-service. Employees and their supervisors can operate them completely independently from their work and private equipment. Already at the start of the system, it was possible to manage one’s selected personnel data, and the latest version features additional functions (see “What data can you manage in KOMPAS Employee Self-Service”). ”As a new function, immediate supervisors can use Managerial Self-Service to enter team position changes, for example, or extend a contract for an indefinite period. It is no longer necessary to issue a request for personnel changes for these tasks. Another interesting novelty, which arose from the initiatives in the “Reducing the administrative burden of foremen” project, is the merging of information on one’s displayed tariff level and its financial amount”, describes Jana Šturmová from SB – Operative HR Care, Digitisation and HR 4.0. The KOMPAS team will welcome any feedback, which it will use to continuously improve the next version. Send your suggestions to kompas@skoda-auto.cz. ED

ŠKODA AUTO Policy in a new form
n April, the Board of Directors approved an updated version of the ŠKODA AUTO Policy, which is one of the company’s basic documents and forms a key part of the Integrated Management System (IMS). It summarises the carmaker’s commitments, which relate primarily to the quality of the system, processes and products, environmental protection, energy savings, occupational safety and information. “In three parts, the ŠKODA AUTO Policy introduces the company’s intentions in carrying out complex business activities. In addition to traditional aspects, it also covers trends arising from the need for cyber security, personal data protection and the ever-increasing use of information technology and digital data transmission”, explains Tomáš Kramný from GQZ – Quality Management System. While producing a draft of the new version, the team of authors had to take into account the requirements of sustainable development and new systems, such as product compliance management, environmental management compliance and other Together4Integrity initiatives that are part of the IMS certification processes. The new ŠKODA AUTO Policy continues to place great emphasis on the carmaker’s obligations within the compliance with legal regulations and responsible management in accordance with the Code of Ethics. Earn a digital driver’s licence
THE ONLINE GUIDE WILL HELP EMPLOYEES WITHOUT A WORK COMPUTER TO GET ORIENTED IN THE DIGITAL SPACE
ith the transition to the new Office 365 suite of office applications and communication tools, the ŠKODA Academy has prepared another training platform for employees who do not use a work computer. The newly launched Digital Driver’s Licence will help them to get oriented in the confusing digital world, figure out how different services and functions work and how to better protect their digital identity.
Why are strong passwords so important? How can one work with e-mails as efficiently as possible? What does the lock icon in the browser address bar mean? What is the purpose of the incognito mode, and what are the advantages and pitfalls of so-called multi-tasking? If you are asking these and similar questions, the Digital Driver’s Licence is the ideal opportunity for you to find answers and broaden your horizons.
Study from the comfort of your home
The Digital Driver’s Licence training programme is intended primarily for those of you who do not have a work computer. After a simple verification process using your personal number, it can be accessed anytime and from anywhere – from private computers, tablets and phones. The programme focuses more on general topics, such as digital security and the currently heavily discussed digital detox. The aim is to help you to get better oriented in today’s technological possibilities, learn to use them for your needs and find out which security pitfalls await you in the online world and how to face them. The training will also benefit your private life because what employees learn there can be used outside work as well.
“The programme consists of two parts. Self-study is based on videos and related information on the individual topics – step by step, you check off the individual items until you reach your destination. This brings better awareness of how to work with digital services and tools. If you want to broaden your horizons even more, the second part of the platform – microlearning – is freely available. It is basically a bottomless well of videos. You can go through the individual activities at your own pace, be inspired by the offered tips and, thus, increase your digital skills”, explains Dominika Pomp from SEA/1 – New Media/Language Training.
„Takto vytištěná součást dosahuje pevnosti slitiny hliníku, přitom má řádově nižší hmotnost a její výroba je oproti konvenčním metodám, například kompletně obráběnému dílu, méně nákladná,“ vyzdvihuje P. Pánek. Při stejné pevnosti je navíc díky nově navržené struktuře pravděpodobnost opakovaného selhání mnohem menší.

Launching a new era in India
Four metres is a critical threshold in the Indian automobile market and its segment with this maximum length accounts for nearly 30%. Škoda Auto is entering this segment with the new compact SUV, the Kylaq, which is developed and manufactured in India specifically to cater to the preferences of local customers. This launch follows the earlier introductions of the Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan.
Conquering the French market
More than half a million visitors flocked to the Paris Motor Show in October, where global carmakers were in attendance. The Škoda Auto stand featured the new electric Elroq, which garnered much attention. Other cars from Škoda’s portfolio were also on display, including a specially modified fourth-generation Superb for the Tour de France race director and the Fabia RS Rally2 competition special.
Reducing software complexity
The second of the Brand Group Core’s six strategic packages is titled Reducing Complexity and focuses primarily on software. The increasing number of drives and assistance systems and the integration of other vehicle functions have led to a complex array of software variants. The aim of reducing the number of software variants is to decrease costs and enhance cybersecurity.
A look inside the battery
The new tomography centre in Hall M6 allows for non-destructive testing of the quality of MEB’s electric platform batteries. Škoda Auto inaugurated this state-of-the-art facility in June this year, and there may not be another facility like it in any other carmaker. Historically, the industry has employed computed tomography technology, or CT scanning, mainly for smaller parts.
Pohled do útrob baterie
Kompaktní, a tedy i dostupnější elektrické SUV značky Škoda.
Elroq loaded with news
On October 1st, the Elroq made its world premiere in Prague. A compact and more affordable electric SUV from Škoda, this latest addition to the carmaker's model range impresses not only with its innovative features and solutions but also with its appearance showcasing the new Modern Solid design language. This language is characterised by functionality, durability and the use of sustainable materials.
Indian student car
Following the model of the Mladá Boleslav apprenticeship, students in India also built their own car. The result is an innovative pickup truck created by combining two Volkswagen models produced under the Škoda Auto banner at the Indian plant in Pune – Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan. The students had access to the latest technology, including 3D printing, which they used to produce the necessary parts.
FORCEd to peak
The Production and Logistics area is implementing a new production strategy. Škoda Auto will now ensure that the development of new vehicles considers efficient production requirements from the start. The aim is to reduce complexity, enhance automation, increase modularity and develop sustainable plants with optimal business results. All of these elements are crucial to Škoda Auto's future success.
Conference for female managers
Supporting women in leadership positions is a key component of Škoda Auto's diversity strategy. In line with this, the carmaker, in cooperation with McKinsey & Company, organised the Women Management Summit. The event focused on trends in the automotive industry, the importance of employees during transformation periods and leadership styles that foster an inclusive and equitable work environment.
Výrobní strategie peak
Oblast Výroby a logistiky zavádí novou výrobní strategii peak.
