    Allocation of one-off bonuses

At the end of the year, employees received 5,000 points for the Škoda Cafeteria Benefits programme, along with the second half of their guaranteed bonus. Despite the challenging circumstances faced by the VW Group and the broader automotive industry, the carmaker’s management and the chairman of the KOVO Trade Union, Jaroslav Povšík, agreed to provide a one-time payment of CZK 5,000. Employees will receive this bonus with their December salary, that is, at the start of January 2025. “This payment serves as a financial boost for employees to help manage the typical expenses during Christmas and the end of the year,” said Povšík.

    ŠAVŠ celebrates 25 years

Twenty-five years ago, the carmaker established the Škoda Auto University (ŠAVŠ), which today provides education to thousands of students from the Czech Republic and abroad and holds institutional accreditation. To mark its anniversary, ŠAVŠ is preparing a publication highlighting key milestones in its development and outlining its vision for the future. The celebrations will also include a formal ball on 21 March at the Škoda Museum, held in the style of the 1920s.

  • Elroq dazzles in Mallorca

To raise awareness of the new compact and affordable Elroq electric car among customers in key markets following its October launch, Škoda Auto hosted an event for journalists on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca in late November and early December. There, they had the opportunity to get to know the model thoroughly, including test drives in attractive surroundings and on challenging terrain.

    Elroq Impresses Journalists in Mallorca

Škoda’s new electric model is turning heads. Hundreds of journalists from all over the world had the opportunity to test it extensively in the Mediterranean.

    Topic

Pre-orders for the Elroq, Škoda’s new compact and affordable electric car, surged across several European countries, including the Czech Republic, immediately after its world premiere. To make the new car even more widely known to customers in key markets, Škoda Auto hosted an exclusive event for journalists on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca in late November and early December. During the event, participants gained in-depth knowledge of the model, not only during test drives in attractive surroundings but also in more challenging terrains.

Klaus Zellmer, CEO, along with Johannes Neft, Board Member for Technical Development, František Drábek, Head of G3 – Product Line EV & Connectivity, and Björn Kröll, Head of VP – Product Marketing, met with the participants. Representatives from the GK – Communication department lead by Thomas Drechlser, as well as colleagues from specialist teams – including those from the product line, Technical Development, Škoda Design and Sales & Marketing – ensured the car’s features were thoroughly presented.

    What Participants Found Interesting

The combination of the car’s compactness and spacious interior

     Modern Solid design language

Simply Clever features, such as the charging cable nets under the boot lid

Simplified controls with new quick options

New features in the MyŠkoda app in the form of improved Powerpass integration and charging statistics

Driver assistance systems, with automatic parking solutions scoring highly

Excellent manoeuvrability, enabled by the car’s small turning radius

A key part of the programme was a product presentation and a workshop focusing on software and car connectivity. The carmaker’s representatives showcased innovations in infotainment, the MyŠkoda app and digital functions, including remote parking, stored parking manoeuvres and new features in the form of their combination. Notably, the Elroq can automatically park in both longitudinal and perpendicular spaces, as well as remember approaches up to 50 metres long for up to five parking spaces and automatically execute them on demand. This system garnered overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees.

    600

Nearly six hundred journalists attended the event.

    45

Elroq cars available to journalists in Mallorca.

    35

Number of countries represented among the journalists.

What they wrote about the Elroq

    Autosalon.tv.

“Given what the Elroq has to offer, we predict a great future for it. We can already bet that it will be Škoda’s best-selling electric car and perhaps the best-selling electric car in the Czech Republic. It has the ambition to claim the same title on the European market as well.”

    Carmagazine.co.uk

“It has a combination of driveability, practicality and interior quality that makes it highly recommendable. The Elroq may not be the coolest in the electric SUV class, but it is certainly the most sensible choice in this price category. Sensibility is the new cool.”

    Welt.de

“The interior designers have shown great taste in their choice of materials for the seats and door panels. We particularly liked the Lodge interior with the Technofil recycled material. Among other things, fishing nets, fabric scraps and discarded carpets are used in the production process – everything that would normally end up in a waste incinerator. The material is pleasant to the touch, looks modern and gives you the sense of putting at least a little less strain on the environment than with conventional plastics.”

    Automobile-propre.com

“There is nothing particularly exciting about the Elroq, either in terms of style or driving dynamics, but it is a safe bet. It is comfortable and does not lack practical features. Equipped with a large battery, the 85 version has all the ingredients to make journeys easy: Thanks to the lower consumption of this new power unit, you can go further, and the fast charging system is much faster than the competition.”

  • January anniversaries

The year 2025 marks the 130th anniversary of the founding of Škoda. That’s why, in each issue of this year’s Škoda Mobil, you’ll find historical highlights related to the month of publication. So, what happened in January? In 1936, for example, the carmaker took part in the Monte Carlo Rally for the first time. This issue explores the successes achieved at this famous event and more.

    Dear Readers,

this year marks the 130th anniversary of our carmaker’s founding. To commemorate this milestone, we are introducing a year-long section in collaboration with the Škoda Auto archive. In this section, we will gradually map out the most fascinating milestones in the carmaker’s history, month by month. This issue features a summary of the events that have taken place in January over the past 130 years. We also focus on the lives of key personalities who have made a significant impact on the carmaker’s trajectory. The column will include a timeline of notable achievements and, above all, memories shared by former Škoda Auto employees. Together with us, they revisit the events that shaped their careers and the carmaker’s direction. We will also gradually publish full interviews with individuals who participated in these events on Škoda Space

Our “mini chronicle” will show that from its very beginning, the carmaker – and especially its designers, mechanics and developers – focused on ingenious solutions and a customer-first approach. We also chart the carmaker’s attention to its employees and the facilities it provided, elements that form the DNA of the Škoda brand today.

We hope you enjoy this journey through Škoda’s history.

The motorsport stars as seen by Jan Splídek

1968–1977 Jan Splídek began working on the assembly line in Mladá Boleslav in 1993, but his true passion has always been motorsport – rallying, circuits and hill climb racing.

He has a vast archive at home, dating back to 1948, with thousands of pictures of Škoda and other sports cars.

“My father worked in Česana and shared this passion. In 1968, when the route of the Vltava Rally passed through Mladá Boleslav, we had to be there, of course. There was a Škoda 1000 MB with Oldřich Horsák at the wheel, one of the stars I admired,” says Jan, now retired, who is also a photographer and motorsport historian.

And how has motorsport changed in his eyes? “I remember Milan Žid, Oldřich Brunclík and Jaroslav Bobek. They used to build and tune their race cars after work. Bobek didn’t even have his own car – he took the bus or train to work. When he couldn’t make it, he slept in the workshop. Times are completely different now. Racing specials cost an incredible amount of money, and even the greatest talents often can’t afford them. Yet, amazing stars are still emerging around Škoda Motorsport, like Kalle Rovanperä or young Oliver Solberg,” says Jan, praising one of the models that will have a big anniversary in 2025. “It’s the Škoda 130 RS, which in May will celebrate 50 years since its first race on the circuit. When Václav Blahna blew everybody away with it in 1977 to win his class at the Monte Carlo Rally, it was nothing short of a miracle,” Jan adds.

    Early days in rallying

Inspired by the success of their excellent motorcycles, Václav Laurin & Václav Klement ventured into building racing cars just two years after launching car production in 1905, and they did very well. Designer Otto Hieronimus developed the 3.5-litre, OHV-powered Laurin & Klement FCS specials. At Brooklands, the world’s first official racing circuit, he drove the FCS and circled at 118.72 km/h. In 1908, he set a speed record in his class. Notably, Hieronimus had worked at L&K as a designer since 1907 and personally raced the cars he developed. To this day, it is hard to say whether he was a better designer or racer.

Successes at the Monte Carlo Rally

1977 The carmaker first participated in this rally in January 1936 and has since achieved notable successes, particularly in the early years, the 1960s, 1970s and the early 1990s, despite taking breaks along the way.

In January 1936, Jiří Pohl and Jaroslav Hausmann competed in the rally driving a Škoda Popular Sport. They finished second in the under 1,500 cc class and could have claimed victory if they had informed the organisers of an unauthorised repair made to an Italian competitor’s car during the Budapest leg of the event. A year later, the same crew returned, this time in a Škoda Rapid, but their result was marred by a protest from their English rivals who disputed the size of their rear-view mirror. This penalty pushed them from second place to fourth in their class and 26th overall. After a hiatus during World War II, Škoda returned to the rally in 1949, with the Škoda 1101 Tudor. However, it marked the last time the car participated internationally for many years. The factory team did not compete in Monaco again until 1956. Another break followed, and in 1961, the carmaker sent a Finnish crew to the track, who secured a victory in the category for cars up to 1,300 cc. In fact, drivers from Finland and Scandinavia upheld the carmaker’s reputation at the rally from 1961 to 1963. In 1977, after an eight-year gap, the factory team returned with the Škoda 130 RS. The crew of Václav Blaha and Lubislav Hlávka won both their class and their group, with Milan Zapadlo and Jiří Motal securing a strong finish as well. After a 10-year hiatus, AZNP resumed its rally efforts with the Škoda 136 L/A. The turning point came in 1994, when Pavel Sibera and Petr Gross achieved their fourth consecutive class victory in the Favorit to dominate the category for cars up to 1,300 cc. Their success was complemented by the second-place finish of Vladimír Berger and Pavel Štanc in the same class, thereby confirming the Favorit’s dominance.

Sport Version of the Monte Carlo

The naming of models after a famous part of the Monaco principality is no coincidence. It draws inspiration from the carmaker’s success in the legendary Monte Carlo Rally, where the Škoda Popular debuted as the first model to have a sports version with this designation. Today, Škoda Auto offers the Kamiq, Fabia and Scala models in the Monte Carlo version.

In the 1930s, the Škoda Popular held an exclusive position on the race tracks, similar to today’s Škoda Fabia R5. The success of our predecessors continues to motivate us.

Head of EM – Škoda Motorsport

  • Anniversary / 130-years-january-3

2018 The carmaker expanded its Engine Centre in January 2018 by launching two new test stands for gearbox testing. The company’s annual production includes 1.16 million transmissions of the MQ100, SQ100 and MQ200 types in Mladá Boleslav and the DQ200 in Vrchlabí.

2021 After four years on the market, the Karoq underwent an upgrade in January to continue its successful campaign. It entered the domestic market with 30 pricing combinations.

    4,250

In January 1930, the Joint Stock Company for the Automotive Industry employed 3,750 workers and 500 clerks.

    40,688

In 1991, Mladá Boleslav had 40,688 residents and 2,592 houses. Today, 46,428 people live in 4,600 houses.

    1,200

In January 1998, the M14 welding plant was built at the main plant, with a daily capacity of 1,200 bodywork sets in three shifts. This created 1,100 new jobs.

1933 In the 1930s, Škoda cars were highly popular among the nobility and celebrities. Zdenko Radslav Count Kinsky of Orlík owned a Škoda 430, while Olga Scheinpflugová, the wife of Karel Čapek, drove a Škoda Popular and later a Škoda Rapid II.

    Production of the Karoq

2018 In January, Škoda Auto began series production of the Karoq at the Mladá Boleslav plant, making it the second Czech site, after Kvasiny, to produce the new compact SUV. Up to 320 of these units are manufactured here every day. With the launch of this model a few months earlier, the Czech carmaker strengthened its SUV offensive, which started with the Kodiaq.

  • Future-Proof Factory

As part of its new strategic initiative, Peak, the Production and Logistics area is focusing on the competitiveness of vehicle and component manufacturing plants in the Czech Republic and India. Future-Proof Factory is one of three initiatives outlining the steps necessary to successfully address the challenges ahead. It aims to prepare plants for future manufacturing needs and their transformation.

    Future-Proof Factory

The Production and Logistics area is driving the transformation of the company into a future-oriented and globally competitive car manufacturer – Made in Czechia.

    Production

Through the Peak initiative, Škoda Auto’s Production and Logistics is focusing on enhancing the future competitiveness of vehicle and component manufacturing plants in both the Czech Republic and India. Three key initiatives outline the specific strategic steps necessary to successfully address future challenges.

In this issue of Škoda Mobil, we explore the first of these initiatives – Future-Proof Factory – which is preparing our factories to produce the vehicles and components of tomorrow while ensuring that they remain competitive. Under the leadership of the brand planning departments (PP – Brand Planning), this initiative is centred around three core areas.

    Factory Concepts & Processes

Focuses on transforming production into lean, flexible processes and infrastructure capable of supporting future vehicle platforms. Comprehensive digitisation of our production and the use of innovations in our production lines will play a key role in this core topic. Clever conversion concepts will ensure maximum flexibility between ICE/BEV production in the transformation process. The ultimate goal is to reduce future factory costs, which will significantly contribute to the corporate objective of achieving a 10% return on sales.

    Product

Strengthens the influence of production on the early stages of vehicle development. Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) focuses on reducing vehicle complexity and simplifying automation in car production. This applies equally to the hardware and software of the vehicles, which are integrated into the cars during the production process. Production-oriented design is essential for achieving lower factory costs in the future.

    Allocation of Ressources

Includes all activities related to the planning round at Škoda and withing the group, such as investment planning, and the allocation of new vehicle projects within our factories. This initiative bridges the gap between the factories of the future and the vehicles of the future, ensuring optimal use of resources, equipped capacities and planned shift models.

    Jiří Drbout

Head of PP – Brand Planning

Future-Proof Factory connects all strategic activities within brand planning. Together with our colleagues inside and outside of production, we make great efforts to meaningfully combine the production of electric vehicles with combustion engine vehicles. The vehicle concepts of the future require a consistent evolution of our current infrastructure and will sustainably transform the appearance of our factories.

    The Three Main Initiatives

    Future-Proof Factory

New production concepts and processes will reduce investment costs and optimise return on investment. Modularisation and smart solutions will enable maximum flexibility in manufacturing both combustion engine cars and electric vehicles. The focus will be on ensuring that the development of new cars incorporates efficient production requirements from the outset.

    Operational Excellence

This initiative aims to increase competitiveness in the automotive industry, secure future production and minimise costs. Flexibility will be key to maintaining stable production in a volatile environment. Achieving efficient quality is a prerequisite not only for customer satisfaction but also for cost reductions in both product and process quality.

    Leadership & Responsibility

The carmaker will continue to refine the organisational structure of the P area through responsible and sustainable growth. This includes advancing employee development, reducing the environmental footprint and expanding into the ASEAN (Southeast Asia) region.

Pořadatel si vyhrazuje právo i bez uvedení důvodů Dobu soutěže zkrátit, Soutěž přerušit nebo zrušit či změnit její Pravidla, a to i bez udělení výhry a bez poskytnutí náhrad. Pořadatel si rovněž vyhrazuje právo nahradit ohlášenou výhru předmětem podobného typu a odpovídající hodnoty a upravit podmínky předání výhry v případě, že výhra nebude poskytnuta způsobem umožňujícím předání výhry vítězům v souladu s těmito Pravidly.
