Sustainability in Every Bite
Food Belongs on a Plate, Not in the Bin
Real sustainability is not created the moment the carmaker presents a new environmental project. It starts working when a responsible approach becomes a natural part of employees' everyday lives. For example, when they reach for a reusable REkrabička instead of a single-use container, use a drinking bottle, or bring their own coffee cup. And also when quality food does not end up in the bin but helps people who need it.
It is precisely these unassuming decisions that underpin the approach taken by Škoda Auto, together with the KOVO Trade Union and canteen catering provider GTH catering, to sustainable food management. These are not one-off campaigns, but projects that fit together with the aim of reducing waste, using ingredients efficiently and seeking solutions that make sense.
Returnable packaging
The most visible symbol is reusable packaging, the repeated use of which means less waste, lower material consumption and a more responsible approach to the environment. From July 2024 to June 2026, the carmaker issued employees with more than 1.4 million meal portions in REkrabička, which have replaced single-use packaging. At the same time, it issued them with more than 35,000 bottles as part of the hydration programme, and reusable drink cups are also becoming increasingly popular, with more than 6,000 sold.
Food donation
Thanks to the cooperation between the town of Mladá Boleslav, the carmaker, the KOVO Trade Union and the company GTH, a project has been created that links sustainability with concrete help for people in difficult life situations. It involves quality chilled meals that would otherwise remain unused in the company's catering. Thanks to careful chilling, freezing and subsequent donation, they find new use. The whole process takes place in accordance with hygiene standards and legislative regulations, which guarantees safe distribution and consumption. Since the project was launched last spring, around 4,000 meal portions have found new use. Sustainability has gained another dimension in this project, showing not only environmental protection but also the carmaker's social responsibility.
Don't waste it
Škoda Auto has long focused on finding ways to prevent food waste. That is why it is gradually introducing dishes and soups displayed on LCD screens in its restaurants, replacing the sample portions previously placed in display cases. Over the past two years, this approach has saved more than 60 tonnes of food.
Catering savings by numbers

September days worth remembering
What's on your plate starts long before the ingredients reach the kitchen. That's why the whole of September reminds us of the importance of organic food, ecological farming and more responsible food management. Specifically, European Organic Farming Day, which falls on 23 September, highlights that the path to more sustainable eating begins in the field, and that soil, water, biodiversity and the way we produce food are all connected. How much food is thrown away needlessly, even though it could still be used? This is exactly what International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, on 29 September, draws attention to. Škoda Auto shows that even seemingly small changes can have a big effect.
