Production System Is Now Closer to You
The set of methods and tools that help improve processes, quality, safety and production efficiency at Škoda Auto has undergone a transformation. It is accompanied by a clear communication campaign.
Instead of the original 41 methods, it now offers 18 modern lean manufacturing tools. This comparison sums up the innovated Škoda Production System, which introduces production employees to important work principles. The new version is easier to understand and better suited for everyday use.
Learning the new production system is also helped by a quiz. Every month, six winners are drawn from among the participants.
Employees do not need to study lengthy manuals. They get to know the Škoda Production System through an introductory video and other short, entertaining animated videos covering individual methods. These are complemented by a three-page PDF document.
The production system provides support for better work organisation, faster resolution of deviations and clearer teamwork.
The communication campaign for the new production system started in May and will run until the end of the year. Each month focuses on a selected theme or method of the production system. The campaign has already covered the 5S lean method, which helps create an efficient working system, not just in production but in the office too. In the following months, the campaign focused on various types of waste and standardised work. It's important that everyone gets involved, not just managers or experts. Everyone can then contribute their own experience, suggestion or specific improvement to the Škoda Production System.
Employees are also encouraged to get involved by a competition quiz, which quickly and simply recaps the main ideas of the method in question and checks how well employees have understood them. Six winners are drawn every month and receive promotional gifts from the carmaker.

The transformation of the production system is presented through animated videos, which feature a Škoda car "transformer" as well as an avatar of actor Saša Rašilov.

The transformation of the production system has made my work more efficient and saved me time. From team meetings, I know that colleagues respond positively to both the very illustrative videos and the prize quiz. In our area, we focus a lot on standardised work, for example, where communication between shifts must work perfectly, and it is necessary to ensure a steady supply of parts needed to assemble the MQ200 gearbox. We also focus on ergonomics. In some places, employees use several types of fixtures that need to be changed during a shift. Each type of fixture has its own table on wheels, making it easier to handle and to tell the different types apart.

At a time of profound transformation in products, processes and people, it is also very useful to modernise the communication platforms used for employee self-study. It is also a good example of how to re-engage experienced older employees while attracting young colleagues through the digital form of the Škoda Production System. The videos on individual methods attract interest and spark discussion among employees. They are pleased that they do not have to study long text manuals or attend time-consuming training. They can decide for themselves when to watch a video, and they are keen to know which new digitalised method will be introduced next month.

Reducing the number of methods from 41 to 18 is very practical. It brings employees a major simplification and clearer overview of everyday work procedures. Short animated videos ensure maximum clarity of key information directly in the production process, and linking this campaign to the chance of winning valuable prizes works as an excellent motivational tool. We are seeing very positive feedback from employees on the transformation. It has become the subject of constructive discussions across the plant. Employees particularly appreciate that the new methods are practical, clear and demonstrably make their work more efficient without unnecessary administrative burden.

What struck me most about the video was how clear it was. It explains the complex topic of transformation simply and clearly. I also like the interactive quiz, which helps you pick up new information in a fun way. For me, this means a significant simplification of my work, as the video clearly conveys the information on my behalf, saving me from having to explain the news repeatedly and at length. The accompanying quiz then gives me an immediate overview of how well the team understands the new processes.
