Rychnov Transformed into a Laboratory of Ideas
For the fifth time, the Maker Faire festival brought the world of technology, science, and creative making to the Castle Riding Hall in Rychnov nad Kněžnou.
The event, organised with the support of the Škoda Auto Endowment fund, offered an interactive programme for children and adults alike and reaffirmed that technical education can be fun, inspiring, and accessible to all generations.
The festival introduced visitors to dozens of projects focused on robotics, electronics, programming, and digital fabrication. The science shows by the Amazing Theatre of Physics (ÚDiF) drew great interest, using spectacular experiments to explain physical and chemical phenomena in an entertaining way. Hands-on workshops offered activities such as programming with micro:bit or working with robotic cars and 3D pens. Also featured was the "Bastlíme s láskou" (We Tinker with Love) project by LaskaKit, which demonstrated that almost anyone can build their own electronic devices or robots today.
The programme also brought in popular names from the technology scene. Ivo Obr, a teacher and leader of a robotics club, discussed the possibilities of teaching robotics in primary schools with visitors. YouTuber Ampérák, who popularises technology and electronics among the younger generation, also returned to Rychnov.
The European Space Agency's presentation as part of the "Czech Paths to Space" project drew significant attention. Visitors learned more about astronaut training, weightlessness, and opportunities to take part in space-related educational activities.
The festival also featured creative and educational projects from regional schools and organisations. Půda Makerspace from the Polička Municipal Library showcased the possibilities of 3D printing, robotics, and programming, while the F. M. Pelcl Gymnasium supplemented the programme with workshops on chemistry and biology.
Maker Faire thus demonstrated once again that modern technology can naturally bring together education, creativity, and community life across generations.
