Keep an Eye on the Rules for Side Jobs
In its internal statistics on misconduct in the workforce and the corresponding sanction measures, the Group recorded 4,166 warnings and 1,247 dismissals in 2025 at 468 companies comprising around 560,000 employees worldwide. These sanctions are equivalent to around one per cent of the workforce. Of these, 53 warnings and 26 dismissals are based on investigations into serious regulatory violations as part of the VW Group’s whistleblower system.
The company’s regulations also apply to mobile working. For example, one employee set up a self-employed side business during mobile working hours, making extensive use of the knowledge gained from their work at Volkswagen and the company terminated his employment.“If in doubt, discuss the matter with your supervisor to determine whether you may be violating your contractual obligations. This is particularly important if the secondary employment conflicts with attendance and work obligations under the employment contract, runs counter to Volkswagen’s competitive interests, or could result in exceeding the legally permitted maximum working hours,” said Thorsten Janotta, Head of Labour Relations and Employee Participation at VW Group.
By publishing these statistics, the VW Group regularly demonstrates that the company’s success can only be based on integrity, compliance and fairness. This is the only way to avert damage to the company, its employees and its business partners. You can find complete statistics for the VW Group on Škoda Space.
