When data starts driving production
In manufacturing today, it is not just machines and technology that make decisions, but increasingly data too. The PK – Component Production department has therefore begun using the Databricks platform, which makes it possible to bring information from production, maintenance and other systems across various areas of Škoda Auto together into a single, clear environment.
Databricks works as a central platform for processing and evaluating data, not just as a static repository. It can link information from different sources, establish logical connections and prepare data for further analysis, visualisation or the use of AI tools. This speeds up the path from raw data to the final decision and also enables more effective use of artificial intelligence and data analytics.
"Our goal is to create a single reliable data source instead of dozens of Excel spreadsheets and different versions of reports," says Thoralf Hanschel, Head of the PK department. Developers and data specialists working with the Databricks platform will prepare the data, while the production, quality, maintenance and management departments will use clear, comprehensive visualisations based on cleaned data for day-to-day decision-making.
The platform will first be used to focus on production productivity. Data from machines and equipment, production lines and support systems – such as those tracking employee absences – will be available in one place. This will make it possible to spot downtime, losses or bottlenecks more quickly and to manage production better on the basis of real-time data.
Databricks is also expected to help automate data processing and prepare employees in the PK department for wider use of artificial intelligence in their daily work.
