Cars that Drive Joy and Laughter
Nearly 600 children took part in the fifth annual "Car for Red Noses" competition, designing how the cars will look – the vehicles this charity will use to spread joy across the Czech Republic.
They didn't worry about technical details or rules. They drew what they do best – how to conjure up a genuine, heartfelt smile. Some started with a single colour. Others went straight for a rainbow. On paper and on screen, cars took shape that heal not with speed, but with laughter. One stood out for its polka dots; another captivated with little animals. And yet another floated on a cloud, because sometimes you just need to have your head in the clouds.
The children didn't think about what a car should look like. They designed how someone should feel inside it. And so nearly 600 different answers emerged to one simple question: how to make those who need it most smile?
Škoda Auto has extended its partnership with the Zlín Film Festival for another three years, until 2028.
Škoda Auto organised the "Car for Red Noses" competition for the fifth time. Every year, children under 15 design cars that then set out to visit young patients and seniors alongside specialists from the Red Noses charity. This year, the children's designs were transformed into three real cars – two Škoda Kodiaq iV SUVs and one Superb Combi iV.
A jury made up of representatives from the carmaker and Red Noses selected 20 finalists from a record number of entries. The public then voted to decide the winners. Professionals transferred the three most successful drawings onto real cars. Red Noses received them during the Zlín Film Festival at the end of May, as part of the now-traditional Škoda Auto Day.

This was my very first time entering a competition. I also enjoy digital drawing, so I thought I'd try my hand at designing a car. I was also drawn to the fact that it's for a good cause. The final car looks great, and I really like it. I never imagined it would look so nice in real life, or that it would match the car I designed.

We came across the competition on Facebook, and this was my first time taking part. I was inspired by the Red Noses logo – we have it on our fridge at home, because we donate to them too. I'm glad that people liked my design, that it won second place, and that it will be seen on the streets.

This was my first time taking part, and my mum told me about it. She told me that clowns bring joy to sick children and make them laugh. I wanted to give it a try and drew a little car to make it pretty and cheerful, because I like colourful things, cars, animals, rainbows, balloons, and polka dots. And all of that is on the car, too.
However, the most interesting thing about the whole competition is not the result itself. The children did not create "pretty cars". They drew feelings of safety, joy, and courage – exactly what Red Noses clowns have been bringing to hospitals for more than twenty years. And perhaps that is precisely why their designs feel so authentic: they were created without thinking about design, but with the idea that somewhere on the other side, a patient is waiting whose day a simple smile can brighten.
The purpose of the competition
In addition to providing Red Noses with three new vehicles that professionally trained clowns will use on their visits to sick children and seniors, the competition also highlights the mission of these professionals. Their mission is to bring joy and hope to places where they are needed, and to make treatment and care easier for patients, families, and healthcare workers. There are currently 94 Red Noses clowns active in the Czech Republic, who regularly visit 64 hospitals, 11 nursing homes, and 1 hospice.

When technology meets imagination
The partnership between the carmaker and the film festival may seem unexpected at first glance. In reality, however, Škoda Auto and the Zlín Film Festival have more in common than meets the eye. Both brands have long worked with children's imagination and emotions, and with inspiration for future generations.
Škoda Auto has supported the Zlín festival for many years, and the partnership has long been more than just a logo at the entrance to the venue. The carmaker contributes to the accompanying programme, brings interactive activities for children and families, and connects the worlds of technology, creativity, and education. The festival thus becomes a place where children can not only enjoy films but also discover new technologies, design, and sustainable mobility. What is more, the "Car for Red Noses" project traditionally culminates during the festival. Children's designs are transformed here into real cars, which then set out to spread joy in hospitals and care homes. This symbolically connects imagination, helping others, and the courage to see the world through children's eyes. And perhaps that is precisely why this partnership works so naturally. It reminds us that the future is created not only on factory floors or in film studios, but above all in the imagination of the next generation.
