Over 715,000 Ateca Cars in Ten Years
After more than ten years, Škoda Auto has ended production at its Kvasiny plant of the Ateca, which is sold under the SEAT and CUPRA brands.
This step marked the end of one chapter in the model range. Series production of the SEAT Ateca began in Kvasiny in the spring of 2016. Two years later, production of the sport-tuned CUPRA Ateca also began on the same assembly line. This called for exceptionally careful planning and implementation of all the changes throughout the vehicles' lifecycle, across more than twenty model-year versions.

The heart of production in Kvasiny
The Ateca was one of the models that held a firm place at the Czech plant. In Kvasiny, the car was assembled on the same production line as the Karoq and became a truly global product, as cars from Kvasiny were shipped to more than 40 countries around the world – including sunny Mauritius, Uruguay in South America and the Caribbean island of Curaçao. "A total of 715,988 Ateca vehicles rolled off the production lines at the Kvasiny plant and went to customers. Of these, more than 625,000 were SEAT Ateca models, and more than 90,000 vehicles were produced under the CUPRA brand," adds Jan Umlauf, Head of PFK – Car Production Kvasiny.
Benefits for the Future
Throughout the project, production teams and working groups from Spain, Mladá Boleslav and Kvasiny met regularly for a series of meetings and work sessions. "Thanks for the exemplary cooperation go to all the team members who contributed to the success of this model," says Mojmír Hájek, Head of PA – Launch Management. "The end of Ateca production in Kvasiny does not mark the end of our cooperation, but rather the close of a very successful chapter. The experience, the contacts we have established and the shared know-how we have gained over more than ten years will be an important foundation for future projects within the Brand Group Core," he adds.
The end of Ateca production will not affect the other models made in Kvasiny. Production of the Karoq continues without restriction, and the model will have a successor in the future. Besides the Karoq, the Kodiaq and Octavia also roll off the production lines here.
Cooperation between the brands continues
One concrete example of cooperation within the Brand Group Core is the upcoming Škoda Epiq electric vehicle. It was developed together with Spanish partners, and series production will take place at the Martorell plant. The experience gained during joint projects, including the Ateca, is therefore being applied to the development of the new generation of electric vehicles.
