EDU.Lab Brings Technology to the Regions
This year, the mobile lab is embarking on a roadshow across the Czech regions. Together with teachers and schools, it aims to spark children's interest in engineering, robotics, and modern technology.
Education
The EDU.Lab mobile educational lab is entering a new phase this year. Under the auspices of the Škoda Auto Endowment fund (NFŠA), it is expanding to provide systematic support for schools and teachers, and during its spring roadshow, it will bring modern technology to approximately 3,000 students and educators from 80 schools.
Technical fields have faced a significant decline in interest from students in recent years. That is precisely why the EDU.Lab project was launched in 2021 – a mobile laboratory built on a lorry that introduces children to the world of technology, science, and innovation in a playful way. Since its launch, EDU.Lab has been visited by more than 31,000 young people from 350 schools.
In 2026, the project continues in collaboration with the Škoda Auto Endowment fund and, in addition to school visits, is placing greater emphasis on long-term support for teaching. Teachers now play a key role in the initiative, receiving teaching materials, inspiration for lessons, and special educational modules that build on the lab's programme. "In recent years, EDU.Lab has proven to be a powerful tool for introducing children to technology and sparking their interest in technical fields. Under the Endowment fund's umbrella, we want to develop it further and make it one of the main pillars of our support for education in the regions", says Ladislav Kučera, director of the Škoda Auto Endowment fund.
This year's activities began on 22 April at the Technical University of Liberec. There, students could try controlling a robotic dog, create prototypes using 3D printing, or explore topics such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. The roadshow will then head to the Central Bohemian, Hradec Králové, Pardubice, and Liberec regions. The programme will also include public events designed to introduce modern technologies to a broader audience.
The National Pedagogical Institute has also become a new partner in the project this year. The collaboration aims to better integrate EDU.Lab's activities with school practice and support the transfer of innovative approaches to teaching. The goal is not only to engage children but also to give educators the tools to develop technical topics over the long term, even after the mobile lab has left.
