The Paperless Revolution: Less Paper, More Savings
A typical tree
A mature tree suitable for industrial use in paper production – most commonly spruce. This is usually a tree around 15–25 years old, about 15–20 metres tall, with a trunk diameter of about 20–30 cm.
From one such tree, the paper industry obtains roughly 8,000 sheets of A4 office paper.
Digitalisation and reduced printing brought tangible results at Škoda Auto in 2025. Thanks to the Paperless Office project, run by the SVP team, and the gradual move of processes to digital formats, the company reduced the volume of printing across the organisation, which saved costs and helped protect the environment. Several things helped cut printing: electronic signatures and contracts, the digitalisation of forms and internal processes, digital production, and the use of electronic publications and documents instead of paper ones. The project also optimised the printing infrastructure and reduced the number of printers across Škoda Auto. The result is millions of unprinted pages a year, lower CO₂ emissions, and more efficient operations at the sites in Mladá Boleslav, Kvasiny, Vrchlabí and Prague.
–71%
of printed A4 pages
The volume of printing at Škoda Auto has fallen by more than two-thirds over six years (from 46.4 million pages in 2019 to 13.5 million pages last year). The biggest drop happened between 2019 and 2021, but the trend continues.
–2%
prints compared with last year
In the first quarter of 2026, the downward trend in print volume continued in the LKK building – from 106,200 pages in the same period of 2025 to 104,500 A4 pages.
–32%
fewer printers
The project also includes a gradual reduction in the number of printers. Since 2019, the number has been reduced by 32%. By the end of 2027, the number is expected to drop from 1,200 to 1,100 units.
–400
tonnes of CO2
Digitalisation also helps the environment. By reducing printing, the carmaker cuts its carbon footprint by hundreds of tonnes of CO₂ each year. Saving 400 tonnes of CO₂ is equal to the emissions from driving two million kilometres by car.
In April this year, the Škoda Auto Board set a goal to limit paper printing to only those documents required by legislation. These typically include documents with officially certified signatures, notarial deeds, promissory notes, powers of attorney and so on.
31.7
million CZK saved annually
Lower print volumes mean significant financial savings, covering everything from paper and toner to equipment maintenance. This adds up to annual savings of 1.3 million euros (31.7 million CZK).
LKK: Less Paper in Administration Too
A total of 403,900 sheets of A4 paper were printed in the LKK building in 2025. This represents annual costs of around 16,000 euros (approximately 390,000 CZK) and emissions of 4.8 tonnes of CO₂. For example, the LKK building currently has only six printers for 1,700 employees.
The trend is changing significantly with the introduction of digital signatures
The total print volume by division in 2025 was 12.2 million A4 pages. However, this will fall significantly this year with the gradual introduction of digital contract signing – this project was piloted last year in Division S.
Printing by division in 2025 (in millions of pages):
P – Production and Logistics: 5.1
S – People & Culture: 2.5
V – Sales and Marketing: 2.3
Others (contractors, students, group employees): 1.3
E – Technical Development: 1.2
G – Company Management: 0.6
F – Finance, IT and Legal affairs: 0.4
B – Procurement Škoda & Region East: 0.1

Have you ever thought about how much paper you print every day? Then you can help the SVP team with the paperless revolution. You can email your suggestions to individual SVP experts: ideas on how to reduce printing, tips on which forms do not need to be printed regularly, or examples of where printing happens for no reason. You can find their contact details in the SVP section on Škoda Space.
