WEEKLY
FOR ŠKODA AUTO EMPLOYEES
B. MAIER:
A LETTER
OF THANKS
Dear colleagues, Dear Škodians,
On Monday we resumed production in
our three Czech plants after 39 days
of lockdown. “Finally” is what many of
you will say. I, too, am pleased that
things are now getting underway again
– although for now at a slower pace
than before the coronavirus pandemic.
In the last two days, I visited the plant
and talked to a few of you. You have
taken the ‘Safe Production’ concept
on board and are implementing
it diligently.
I am aware that these measures will
take some time getting used to.
However, there is no alternative. We
must have the necessary discipline to
protect ourselves and our colleagues as
much as possible. This also applies, of
course, to all office workers. Thank you
for your understanding and
consideration.
At this point, I would like to take the
opportunity to thank all those who
have made the restart possible in the
first place through their hard work over
the past days and weeks. This
expressly includes the work and
support of our social partner KOVO
and its chairman Jaroslav Povšík.
In this exceptional situation, we are all
pulling together and doing our best to
manage the production ramp-up as
smoothly as possible. Our colleagues
from the sales department have
already set up comprehensive
programmes for each market to boost
sales.
In the coming days and weeks, it will
depend on the commitment of each
one of us to get back on track quickly.
As we look to the future, we have very
good reason to be optimistic: Our
company is strategically wellpositioned, has an excellent foundation
and an attractive, modern model
portfolio.
After the initial days of the restart, I am
once again convinced that we will
overcome this challenge together as a
united ŠKODA family and that our
company will emerge stronger from it.

OUR HELP IS MEETING HIGH DEMAND
ŠKODA has been combating
the spread of the coronavirus
for weeks. 100 donated
ŠKODA OCTAVIAs worth
a total of 85 million Czech
korunas are aiding agencies in
the Czech Republic. Over 200
vehicles made available by
HoppyGo covered more than
220,000 km since mid-March,
helping over 50,000 people.
150 BeRider e-scooters from
ŠKODA AUTO DigiLab used
by healthcare professionals for
more than 1,600 journeys
across Prague. Technical
Development at ŠKODA
is also helping with the
production of FFP3
respirators for medical
personnel. Furthermore, face
shield parts are being printed
on our 3D printers and
thousands of other face
shields are also continously
distributed by ŠKODA
Logistics to doctors
and hospitals.
1ST QUARTER IMPACTED
BY THE PANDEMIC
ŠKODA AUTO GROUP ACHIEVED SALES REVENUES
OF 4.85 BILLION EUROS IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF
2020, 1.4% BELOW THE PREVIOUS YEAR'S FIGURE.
Operating profit reached 307 mil. euros and thus remains
at a solid level, as does the return on sales at 6.3%.
However, comparing these figures to the record year of
2019 clearly shows that our overall business has been
severely affected by the current economic situation and the
necessary measures to prevent the further spread of the
Covid-19 pandemic. A look at the deliveries demonstrates
this: From January to March 2020, we delivered 232,900
vehicles to customers worldwide, which is significantly
lower than the previous year (first quarter of 2019:
307,600 vehicles; -24.3%). Nevertheless, the company
continues to invest consistently in its future and is pursuing
its transformation from a dedicated automaker to a ‘Simply
Clever Company for the Best Mobility Solutions’.
