    +4,5 %

Increase in deliveries of Škoda cars in the first half of the year compared with the same period last year.

Škoda Auto grows faster than the market in Europe

The carmaker reported excellent sales and financial results for the first nine months of 2024. It delivered approximately 30,000 cars more than during the same period last year, reaching a total of 671,300 vehicles. A highly successful third quarter significantly contributed to this growth. In Europe, Škoda Auto is outpacing the overall automotive market, with its cars ranking as the fourth best-selling in the region. The largest increases in deliveries during the three quarters were recorded in Germany, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Poland and France. The Enyaq model played a key role in this success, becoming the best-selling electric car in Germany in September and ranking second overall. Financial results followed this positive trend, reflecting the increase in deliveries. Revenue for the three quarters rose by 3.8% year on year to EUR 20.4 billion (over CZK 500 billion), while operating profit increased by 34.8% to EUR 1.7 billion (around CZK 43 billion). The return on sales reached 8.3%, nearly two percentage points higher than in the same period last year.

    Debates on reconciliation and hope

The Broumov Discussions conference, held from 6 to 11 November, focused on the themes of reconciliation and hope. The event was attended by dignitaries such as votary Angelika Pintířová, journalist Ivana Svobodová, President Petr Pavel and others. Škoda Auto supported the event by providing official cars. In addition, trainees from Škoda Auto University and a scholarship recipient from the Škoda Auto Endowment Fund’s high school programme participated in organising the event.

Protective equipment issued by a dispenser

The PFS-L/3 – Plant Technique and Tool Service team has installed a new protective equipment dispenser in the M4 Hall. Employees can now easily collect gloves, muffs, grinders and other supplies by scanning their MFA card. “Our team’s vision is to provide a comprehensive solution for ordering, delivering, dispensing and registering protective equipment, working clothes and other means not only for production employees but also for other areas, with the option to expand the range,” said Roman Řehák from the PFS-L/3 team. He can be contacted for further information or if you are interested in implementing this solution.

    Among the best in sustainability

Škoda Auto was once again ranked in the top category of Czech ESG Excellence in the independent ESG Rating. The jury selected the 10 best companies based on various aspects of sustainability and the implementation of environmental, social and corporate governance principles. The ESG Rating is announced by the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Economics and Business, and the evaluation is carried out by a panel of university experts.

Škoda cars at the embassy in Vietnam

On 28 October, the Czech National Day celebrations featured an exhibition of Škoda cars at the Czech Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam. Around 700 visitors had the opportunity to view the Kodiaq and Karoq models. The event also marked the carmaker’s upcoming 130th anniversary, which it will celebrate next year. Czech Ambassador Hynek Kmoníček welcomed Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Thanh Binh, along with military leaders, ambassadors and other guests of honour.

Škoda Auto has produced 1 million high-voltage battery systems for plug-in hybrids and electric cars on the MEB platform at its Mladá Boleslav plant. The first ones rolled off the production line in September 2019.

IT summit rounds off the celebrations

At the end of October, Škoda Auto concluded a year of celebrating 55 years of IT services with a spectacular IT Summit 2024. The event featured presentations by Holger Peters, Board Member for Finance, IT and Legal affairs, and Jaroslav Povšík, Chairman of the KOVO Trade Union, as well as inspiring lectures by distinguished external speakers. The key point of the programme was the presentation of an award to Jiří Vosáhlo, the first system programmer at the carmaker. This past spring, the IT department’s jubilee was commemorated with an exhibition at the LKK and a supplement to Škoda Mobil.

New opportunities in the automotive sector

On the first weekend in November, the Automobilwoche Kongress 2024, a meeting of automotive industry leaders in Berlin, focused on the transformation of the automotive industry under the motto “New World, New Opportunities”. Key themes included digital transformation, low-CO2 technologies and sustainable mobility. Speakers included Maren Gräf, Board Member for People & Culture, who emphasised the importance of ESG (environmental, social and governance responsibility). She pointed out why managers should act sustainably and recalled a key idea: “There is no long-term success without sustainability and no future without responsibility.”

    EDU.Lab roadshow 2024

    Ninth Golden Steering Wheel

The Octavia Combi RS impressed with its dynamism, handling and high level of comfort, earning it a major accolade. Readers of the Auto Bild trade magazine and Bild am Sonntag weekly selected it from a competition of 15 other models as one of the three finalists in the Golden Steering Wheel 2024 competition’s mid-size car category. The expert jury, which included world rally champion Sébastien Ogier and former Formula 1 driver Hans-Joachim Stuck, thoroughly evaluated the finalists in demanding test drives on the German Lausitzring circuit. They declared the top sports version of Škoda’s best-seller the winner. This marks the ninth time the carmaker has won this prestigious award.

  • Success in times of challenges

In mid-November, around 300 managers gathered at the Škoda Museum for a two-day meeting with the top management of the MMK. The opening session was addressed by Klaus Zellmer, Škoda Auto CEO, and Jaroslav Povšík, Chairman of the KOVO Trade Union. The theme of transformation guided the entire event, which included seminars, discussions and updates from various areas of the carmaker.

Success in Times of Great Challenges

MMK Conference: The managers explored the carmaker’s current situation and future prospects while inspiring one another in creative workshops.

    Event

In mid-November, a two-day management meeting brought around 300 managers to the Škoda Museum, where they participated in a rich programme of information sessions, debates and discussions.

The opening session on the first day featured Klaus Zellmer, CEO, who provided an overview of the carmaker’s current performance. With the exception of the Indian and Chinese markets, year-on-year sales were up: 12% in Western Europe, 4% in Central Europe and 7% in Eastern Europe. Škoda has risen to become the fourth-most popular brand in Europe this year, improving from seventh place last year and 10th the year before. The carmaker has also set a strategic goal of ranking in the Top 5 in Europe by 2030.

Klaus Zellmer highlighted that Czech production plants are among the most efficient in the VW Group and commented on the ever-increasing pressure from Asian carmakers. The theme of the event was transformation, which was conveniently illustrated with a short video recalling the triumph of the Czech team at this year’s IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. “It’s worth watching what the champions are doing today. They are definitely not resting on their laurels. On the contrary, they are working even harder because they have proven they are the best and they want to stay that way. The same goes for us - we have to keep going because the competition is not sleeping,” Klaus Zellmer motivated all the managers. The results, he said, prove that the carmaker can measure up to the best. He cited the low production costs as an advantage. The challenge, on the other hand, is to speed up the development of new models.

Afterwards, Jaroslav Povšík, Chairman of the KOVO Trade Union, took the floor and reflected on his time at the carmaker during the first post-revolutionary transition under the VW Group. Ralph Linde, a long‑time manager within the Group, followed with an inspiring lecture on the pitfalls of transitions, offering tips on how people and society can adapt, including motivations, drivers and obstacles.

I was intrigued by the speeches of Klaus Zellmer and Jaroslav Povšík, who gave us insight into the current situation not only at Škoda Auto but also at the VW Group. We saw that the carmaker is in very good shape but also faces big challenges ahead, including the threat of strikes, fines for non-compliance and increasing competition from Chinese manufacturers. I’m glad that we address these issues openly. I was pleased to see a very friendly atmosphere at the workshops, including fruitful discussions that clearly showed the managers understood the issues. Most importantly, they took responsibility for finding solutions themselves rather than waiting for someone else to step in.

    Oldřich Šubrt

Head of SPS – Social Relations & HR Compliance

    Managers put their heads together

Interactive seminars followed lunch. Topics suggested by the managers shortly before the event included production planning, meeting culture, development cost estimating, risk management and internal control, job descriptions, mobile working, mandatory training, personal planning, goal setting and evaluation. The managers split up into 20 teams to brainstorm innovative ideas for their topics. The first day’s programme concluded with five-minute presentations from each team, followed by discussions with a so-called Sounding Board. This panel, comprising colleagues from different areas and hierarchical levels, provided critical and constructive feedback on the proposed solutions. The best three ideas will be prioritized for implementation by the carmaker, while the remaining suggestions will be handled by the respective teams.

The second day opened with a presentation on global mobility and customer trends by McKinsey & Company, followed by updates from Board members on the current state of their respective areas (see What the Board members talked about).

In conclusion, Johannes Neft, Board Member for Technical Development, and Oliver Stefani, Head of ED – Škoda Design, presented new developments in the product portfolio. The two-day event closed with a short speech by Klaus Zellmer, who once again motivated all the managers.

I always view the MMK as a unique opportunity to meet colleagues from different fields, discuss current topics and visions for the future, gain fresh perspectives and draw inspiration. Lectures by external speakers are always engaging, but in today’s online world, they are relatively easy to access. For this reason, I find the presentations by the Board members from each area more important, as they summarise achievements and address both current and future challenges. And the highlight of the programme? The presentation of new products always evokes emotion in the room, and the pride that we feel in the Škoda brand and its cars is palpable.

    Radka Čihulková

Head of BAR – Real Estate Asset and Travel Management

What the Board members talked about

Holger Peters (Finance, IT and Legal Affairs) highlighted the strong financial results for 2024 and introduced the Škoda IT ecosystem, along with updates to the IT strategy. Maren Gräf (People & Culture) highlighted the importance of developing digital skills for successful future, provided information on the new Group’s new Hello Success platform and presented plans for the transformation of indirect staff, where highlighted the important cooperation with the KOVO Trade Union. Martin Jahn (Sales and Marketing) reviewed this year’s positive sales statistics, successful collaborations such as the Tour de France cycling race and the ice hockey championship and improvements to the digital customer experience through the MyŠkoda application. He also emphasised the Human Touch pro-customer concept and the launch of the new Elroq model. Johannes Neft (Technical Development) shared updates on the ongoing implementation of the Modern Solid design language and the performance of Škoda models in the EuroNCAP crash tests. Karsten Schnake (Procurement) discussed in particular the importance of a resilient supply chain and a responsible approach to the environment and the surrounding ecosystem. Andreas Dick (Production and Logistics) spoke about the upcoming production line for the smallest battery system size in the Group’s new MEB+ electric vehicle architecture.

  • Compact but still spacious

The Kylaq, Škoda’s latest and smallest model, was unveiled in November. Measuring less than 4 metres in length, it targets the popular Indian market segment, with prices starting from CZK 220,000. The Kylaq introduces the new Modern Solid design language to India, along with the largest boot in its class and a wide range of equipment focused on safety, including six airbags.

    Models

    Compact Yet Spacious

The new Kylaq has been unveiled to the world. In India, this small SUV will be available at a starting price of CZK 220,000.

The Kylaq now holds the position of the smallest model in Škoda’s portfolio as it measures about 15 centimetres shorter than the Fabia. This places it within the sub-4-metre segment, which is very popular in India. Journalists got their first impressions of the vehicle during test drives with the camouflaged model (see the November 2024 issue of Škoda Mobil). In early November, the new car was officially revealed in all its glory.

The compact car, developed and manufactured in India, became Škoda Auto’s new entry-level model for the local market. “The Kylaq beckons with a wide choice of variants, colours, features and a standard package of over 25 active and passive safety technologies. At a very competitive starting price of INR 789,000, the Kylaq is the most accessible Škoda model in India,” said Klaus Zellmer, CEO.

The Kylaq also introduces Škoda’s new Modern Solid design language, based on simplicity and clean lines, to India. “For example the Kylaq doesn`t have chrome frame around the grill, in order to really have a wide and bold shiny black grill graphically connected with slim headlamps of daytime running light It is also featuring the new Škoda wordmark on the tailgate, sitting on a black stripe that connects the rear lights to make one graphical and wide element,” explained Romain Bucaille, head of international projects at the EDE – Design exterior department. The Modern Solid language is also reflected in the style of the headlights, which have a minimalist design and exclusively LED sources. Viewed from the side, the robust trim on the wheel arches and side sills stands out, along with the above-standard ground clearance. Among the five available colours, the striking gold colour called Olive is particularly noteworthy.

    Romain Bucaille

    Design exterior – foreign projects
    EDE – Design exterior

Recognisable Škoda elements are being re-interpreted for the Kylaq to make it unique and specific for the indian market. We designed the Kylaq to have a tough and solid design, to really stand out in the crowd with an imposing road presence. Being small and compact, we designed the Kylaq to look like a big car. It has muscular shapes with generous wheelarches, robust claddings, high ground clearance and a lot of space around the wheels to showcase the SUV capability on all terrains. We as well pay particular attention to details in the lamps, as well as some specially designed hexagon pattern on the plastic parts.

    Emphasis on safety

The Kylaq’s standard equipment includes six airbags, multi-collision brakes, a rollover protection system and more. Selected variants also offer cornering lights, hill-start assist and some additional features.

The highlight is the 446-litre boot, the largest in the car’s segment, complemented by a variety of storage compartments designed in the Simply Clever spirit. The infotainment system features a 10.1-inch display, clear controls and practical design. Furthermore, the Kylaq brings several conveniences to the segment, such as ventilated front seats with six-way electric adjustment. Selected variants also include an electrically operated sunroof, which is in high demand among Indian customers.

    Film premiere

The world premiere of the Kylaq took place on 6 November via a broadcast on JioCinema’s internet television platform. Viewers were introduced to the car through a short film made by popular Indian director Rohit Shetty, who also appeared driving the car. You can watch the clip through the online version of Škoda Mobil. The launch was attended by representatives of Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited and the Mladá Boleslav carmaker, including Klaus Zellmer, Škoda Auto CEO, Martin Jahn, Board Member for Sales and Marketing, and Oliver Stefani, Head of the ED – Škoda Design department.

    Vietnam Discovers the Škoda Brand

The Czech carmaker’s display garnered a lot of attention at the Vietnam Motor Show in Ho Chi Minh City.

    From the world

Škoda Auto has been present on the Vietnamese market for more than a year, with the launch of local car production on the horizon. In October, the brand bolstered its local presence by participating in the Vietnam Motor Show in Ho Chi Minh City, a bustling metropolis of 10 million people in the south of the country. Around 300,000 attendees were at the event, and thanks to the prominent Škoda stand, they could not miss the brand’s models. The new-generation Kodiaq and the Kushaq compact SUV from the Pune plant in India were particular highlights, with local assembly of the Kushaq in the pipeline for Vietnam.

Given the Czech carmaker’s relatively short tenure on the local market, the Vietnam Motor Show offered many visitors their first in-depth experience with Škoda vehicles. They were especially impressed with the good looks of the interior and exterior, as well as the robust craftsmanship and performance of the cars.

    Emphasis on green future

In addition to Škoda Auto, 18 other car and motorcycle manufacturers participated in this year’s Vietnam Motor Show. The event’s theme, technologies for a green future, provided a platform for the Czech carmaker to showcase its commitment to sustainable development and the development of advanced technologies. Among the models on offer was the Enyaq electric vehicle, which the company expects to bring to the Vietnamese market in the future.

  • IVET 2024 Innovation Fair

The 8th edition of IVET showcased 36 innovation themes, underscoring Škoda Auto’s commitment to practical advancements. New was a section dedicated to the Indian market and contributions from Group colleagues. The event also featured the presentation of the Elroq. From Simply Clever solutions to technical breakthroughs, the fair continued the tradition of innovations designed with customers in mind.

IVET 2024: India, discerning customers and awards

This year’s IVET innovation fair showcased the wide range of innovations being developed, not only at Škoda Auto.

The eighth annual IVET innovation fair, which took place from 5 to 8 November in Bezděčín, focused on 36 innovation themes and offered a broader scope than ever before. In fact, the IVET fair continues to evolve and highlights Škoda Auto’s increasingly intense emphasis on practical innovations for its customers. A key addition this year was the inclusion of topics from Group colleagues and a completely new section dedicated to innovations tailored to the Indian market.

The presented innovations definitely feature the Škoda brand’s DNA and are very well selected.

    Johannes Neft

    Board Member for Technical Development

    Innovation incubator

The fair upheld its strong tradition of presenting and supporting innovations with the potential to reach customers. IVET has consistently proved itself as an incubator for commercially viable solutions. Projects that were still under wraps last year have since become publicly available – for example, the MyŠkoda widget applications, which iOS and Android users can now add to their phones. “Last year, the widget was one of the presented projects, and since the beginning of this year, it has been available to all users. Similarly, a new feature in the Traffication application in the car’s infotainment portfolio – providing information when crossing a border – is now about to be launched,” said Pavel Barcal, Innovation Manager of the EE – Development energy systems & digital car department. This year’s 36 innovation themes reflected not only contributions from Škoda Auto departments but also new insights from other Group participants. “We welcomed our colleagues from Group Innovation and Cariad. For the first time, Škoda Motorsport representatives also participated in the fair, presenting their concept of the Enyaq RS Race competition special, which demonstrated the use of non-traditional materials,” said Petr Šedivý, Innovation Manager of Technical Development. Another eye-catching exhibit was the new Elroq electric car on display right at the entrance, which had its world premiere in the previous weeks. This vehicle featured innovations that IVET had originally shown at past fairs, such as the under-plate net for cable storage.

The opportunity to present innovations that will become part of future Škoda cars makes enormous sense. This is the only way Škoda Auto can provide its customers with new cars featuring plenty of meaningful and surprising features, which is precisely one of the IVET fair’s objectives.

    Petr Šedivý

    Innovation Manager of Technical Development

    A show of practicality

IVET 2024 highlighted innovations across various areas, including autonomous driving, infotainment, connectivity, exterior and interior lighting and a host of practical accessories. These innovations could become standard or optional features or serve as standalone accessories. Many of the solutions fit the popular Simply Clever philosophy. As always, there were not only static displays but also two driving demonstrations of technical innovations that could appear in Škoda cars in the near future. One demonstration focused on simplifying the choice of direction of travel, while the other concerned parking. “After the recent wave of software innovations, there was a noticeable shift towards traditional solutions at IVET,” says Miloš Jambor, Innovation Manager of the EK – Development bodysystem department. The fair also reflected a clear emphasis on the carmaker’s newly defined target group, the Everyday Explorers.

    Inventors Award

For the first time, the Inventors Award was part of the fair this year. This award recognises Škoda Auto employees who hold patents. The inventors and their patents were personally acknowledged by Johannes Neft, Board Member for Technical Development, and Marek Jancák, Head of the PF – Car Production department, representing Production and Logistics.

We have selected the most interesting innovations

    Innovations for India

In the Indian market, solutions must account for numerous specific conditions, including coping with a harsher climate and intense monsoon rains. Innovations to reduce interior overheating and improve air quality in the car were featured. Enhancements to rear seat passenger comfort were also highlighted, as these seats are often occupied by the car’s owner in India. Another clever detail was the potential improvement of the talisman compartment, a special feature of Škoda cars designed for the Indian market.

    Easy solutions

Sustainability at IVET extended beyond electric cars to include solutions made from innovative materials, as well as ideas for simplifying production and making it easier to recycle individual car parts. The innovations concerning headlight functionality, which visitors could see in detail in virtual reality, were interesting as well. In addition, a solution designed to make camping significantly easier attracted considerable attention.

    3D printing

As in the previous year, the fair featured several solutions created using 3D printing. The carmaker envisions that this technology could allow customers to enhance or personalise their cars with ease. “It doesn’t always have to be groundbreaking innovations – sometimes, it’s enough to use already known ideas. The key is that the solution is tailored to our cars and, above all, meets all the requirements in terms of quality, durability and safety,” explained Michal Šimek, Projectmanager innovations of cars from the ES/1 – Innovations and requirementsmanagement department and the main organiser of the IVET trade fair.

    GreenWeek 2024

Sustainability as a driver of innovation

The fourth GreenWeek took place from 4 to 8 November, featuring a week of moderated talks, lectures and workshops. This year’s motto was: Sustainability as a driver of innovation. Or perhaps you’re wondering whether innovation is, in fact, the driver of sustainability?

Sustainability and innovation are interlinked and mutually reinforcing. Sustainability can serve as a strong motivation for innovation, while innovation helps to achieve sustainability objectives.

It’s not an easy question, which is why the PSU – Environmental and Work Protection department, which organised GreenWeek, invited both external guests with valuable insights on the topic and internal experts. Klaus Zellmer, Škoda Auto CEO, gave the opening remarks for the third time. “This annual event is important for both the carmaker and me – because sustainability is one of the key pillars of our strategy to ensure that Škoda Auto will be viable in the future,” said Zellmer.

Škoda students attended the event at the Laurin & Klement Kampus (LKK).

The programme was divided into five blocks: Sustainability and Innovation, Mobility for Future Generations, GreenFuture Innovation Three-Cylinder, Sustainability for Every Day, and Focus on Biodiversity. The talks and livestreams covered the Group’s Regenerate+ strategy, ESG, the Zero Impact Factory methodology, vehicle drives in a broader context, electromobility and clean energy, sustainable innovations in the GreenFactory, GreenProduct and GreenRetail areas and, last but not least, projects aimed at promoting biodiversity.

“GreenWeek confirmed our commitment to sustainability with major steps towards the Zero Impact Factory and CO₂ reduction in Production and Logistics. From the use of trains instead of trucks, saving 2,500 tonnes of CO₂ annually, to the digitisation of e-CMR (electronic loading lists – ed.), which is moving us towards paperless logistics, our initiatives are driving real change. The GreenFactory projects continue the circular resource economy, such as the project to safely return treated water back to the Jizera River, and reduce waste by 230 tonnes per year. Thanks to the FabLab, we are also extending the lifetime of our machines and reducing our carbon footprint by 980 tonnes of CO₂ per year,” said Andreas Dick, Board Member for Production and Logistics, on LinkedIn, praising the initiative and the efforts of the Škoda team.

    Sustainability for every day

On 7 November, the event moved from the digital studio in Kosmonosy to the Laurin & Klement Kampus, where visitors admired the Škoda Roadiaq student car displayed in the entrance area. However, the main theme here was Sustainability for Every Day, with a particular focus on personal meetings with interested employees. Under the guidance of experienced lecturers, some attendees created a climate mosaic, learned tips for minimalist living, crafted gift bags from old calendars or used their energy to power the pedals of a smoothie bike, preparing fruit cocktails packed with vitamins and endorphins. “Together with the participants, we organised our third book and clothing swap. It was an opportunity to pass on clothes and books you no longer need or to obtain something nice in a sustainable way. Thanks to voluntary contributions, we managed to raise CZK 5,600 for the Znesnáze21 collections supported by the Škoda Auto Endowment Fund. We are deeply grateful to all the participants,” said Hana Cejnarová, Head of the PSU department.

In the evening, participants enjoyed two documentary film screenings, Bend Down to Earth and Northern Stream. Those who like a challenge took part in a Plogging activity or started a 31-day Zero Waste challenge. The advantage is that you can begin them at any time – not just during the environmentally themed GreenWeek event.

I’m absolutely thrilled about GreenWeek, and I think there should be more events like this. It was my first time attending, but I personally participate in various charity fund-raisers. For example, in our department, we did a clothing drive for the Jistoty Domova organisation. One of the books, Talking to Animals, caught my eye, and I bought it for the son of a friend. He loves animals, so I think it will make him very happy.

I attended GreenWeek for the first time this year and took the opportunity to visit one of the events at the Laurin & Klement Kampus. I was impressed by the variety of stands on display – it felt like there was something for everyone. Personally, I came to check out the so-called sustainable tiles, and since I like to play sports, I was drawn to the idea of “whipping up” a fruity drink by riding a bike. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event because I like to participate in similar events. They inspire me when planning events for our department.

    Focus on biodiversity

This year, participants had the opportunity to learn about three projects from the Krakonoš Gardens grant programme, supported by the Škoda Auto Endowment Fund (NFŠA), via livestream. They also explored the work of the Ivan Dejmal Foundation for Nature Conservation.

    Nature garden: outdoor classroom

Jan Kluger from the NFŠA met Pavel Světlík in Dobré in the Rychnov nad Kněžnou district, in the floodplain of the Zlatý Creek, a site devastated by the flood of 1998. Here, a wetland area featuring a system of pools with abundant aquatic vegetation was created. During the visit, Světlík described several features such as an edible forest, flower-rich meadows, a young arboretum, a fern garden, herb spirals, wild thickets, two bird observation points and numerous habitats designed for various animal species.

    Country paradise: pools

Hana Beňasová visited the Kentaurus zone in Horní Kalná to see the newly created pools shaped like a heart and a crescent moon. She was accompanied by Ondřej Nosek, who explained the morphology of the pools. “We chose the shape of a heart to reflect how my wife and I try to treat nature and shape the landscape around us,” said Nosek.

    Krkonoše Mountains: butterfly kingdom

In June, 50 male Apollo butterflies were released into the Krkonoše Mountains (read more in the December 2023 issue of Škoda Mobil). On this occasion, Kristýna Červinková from the NFŠA spoke with David Číp from the JARO International Nature Conservation Group. She also discussed the challenges of this rescue project with Miloš Andres, a breeder of rare butterfly species, at the breeding station.

    Protection of the Jizerské Mountains

In the digital studio, moderator Vlasta Štrunc discussed the protection and restoration of the Jizerské Mountains landscape with Ondřej Petrovský, director of the Ivan Dejmal Foundation for Nature Conservation. In addition to planting trees to make the mountains more stable, natural and healthy, they visited the Jizera River’s peat bogs, which are gradually being restored by constructing small dams. “During rainfall, the peat bogs will better store water, helping to alleviate run-off and reduce flooding. During droughts, they will gradually release water and preserve moisture for the surrounding nature,” said Petrovský.
