    n December 1963 ŠKODA became the most sold
    automotive brand in the Czechoslovak market
    and has led domestic sales statistics by a wide
    margin for 80 years now.

    t was the ŠKODA KODIAQ in the Moon White that rolled of
    the production line in the Kvasiny plant as a jubilee car with a
    serial number 2,000,000. The Kvasiny production site is among
    the most important employers in the region of Hradec Králové.

    A RECORD-BREAKING 2016
    ŠKODA achieved the best sales results
    in its history last year, when global sales
    increased by 6.8 percent to 1,127,700 cars. Fur-
    thermore, it was the most successful December
    ever as the carmaker delivered 91,500 cars to its
    customers. This year will see the model offensive
    again. ‘A record-breaking result of 2016 empha-
    sises ŠKODA’s attractiveness‘, says ŠKODA AUTO
    Board Chairman Bernhard Maier. ‘Emotional
    design, cutting-edge technology and a lot of
    handy solutions help us to address new groups
    of customers. With 11 new model releases in total,
    the trend will continue in 2017. In particular, the
    OCTAVIA facelift and the new SUV KODIAQ are
    expected to bring about positive impulses for the
    brand’, said Maier.
    PXL II LINE IN OPERATION
    ŠKODA AUTO has unveiled a new press
    line for the production of aluminium body
    parts in Mladá Boleslav. Full operation will start
    in March, producing up to 23,000 pressed parts
    a day. A state-of-the-art press shop will enable
    the pressing of large body parts. ‘The new press
    line means an important investment in ŠKODA‘s
    growth and the future of the Mladá Boleslav
    plant’, says Michael Oeljeklaus, the member of
    the ŠKODA AUTO Board for the Production and
    Logistics. ‘The new press shop forms a substan-
    tial part of the GreenFuture strategy focused on
    environmentally friendly production and ener-
    
    its kind in Central Europe. Apart from its exemplary
    -
    
    times needed for a tool exchange’, adds Michael
    Oeljeklaus.
    ŠKODA AUTO
    EXPORTER OF THE YEAR
    For the 22nd time in a row, the carmaker from
    Mladá Boleslav has been named the Exporter of
    the Year, winning three categories: Export Volume
    2015, Export Volume 1993–2015 and the Biggest
    Importer in the Central Bohemia region. In 2015,
    the company delivered goods and services abroad
    for more than CZK 282 billion and participated in
    approximately 8 percent of Czech export. ‘Only
    a strong company can be a good exporter – a
    company that has been making investments and
    developing in the long term. Challenges related to
    the Fourth Industrial Revolution will require fur-
    ther education of employees and investments in
    modern technology. That is why we need support
    from the Czech government in eGovernance, digi-
    tal agenda, retraining, as well as the development
    of social and data infrastructures’, said Bohdan
    Wojnar, the member of the ŠKODA AUTO Board
    for the HR Management at the award ceremony.
    Wojnar received the award from the Minister of
    Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, Jan
    Mládek. The contest was set up under the auspic-
    es of the Czech Chamber of Commerce. Apart from
    awards for 2015, the Czech carmaker received a
    special award from the Arbitration Court attached
    to the Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic
    and Agricultural Chamber of the Czech Republic.
    THE NINETEEN-MILLIONTH
    ŠKODA CAR
    A jubilee car – the ŠKODA FABIA in moon
    white – rolled off the production line in the main
    ŠKODA AUTO production site in Mladá Boleslav
    on 19 December 2016 and headed to a Czech
    customer. ‘Today we have 19 million reasons
    for pride. This jubilee demonstrates the perfor-
    mance of Czech and foreign production sites
    and expertise of our employees’, said Michael
    Oeljeklaus, member of the ŠKODA AUTO Board
    for the Production and Logistics. The carmaker is
    one of the oldest and still operating car producers.

    the company’s founders, Václav Laurin and Václav
    Klement, in 1905. In 1991, when Volkswagen Group
    stepped in, ŠKODA AUTO saw a textbook example
    of progress. It got a strong upswing and ascended
    among successful international producers, cur-
    rently producing seven model ranges with more
    than 40 model derivatives. The Czech carmaker
    has been expanding its production capacity for
    the past few years and in the Czech Republic
    alone, it has invested more than CZK 350 billion in
    production process since 1991.
    NEW PARKING HOUSE
    AT GATE 6
    On Wednesday, 4 January, the inauguration
    of a parking house at gate 6 took place – an entry
    to the ŠKODA AUTO premises, i.e. in the vicinity of
    Štefánikova Street and the North-East Tangent.
    It should accommodate 1,200 cars of employees,
    agency personnel and suppliers. The house can
    be entered from L. Kalmy and V. Köhlera streets
    or Dukelská Street. Entry permits have not been
    
    lights. Ramps around the parking house are for
    cars that are entering, while internal ramps are
    used for those exiting.
    CARMAKER SUPPORTED
    YOUNG CHEMISTS
    Four representatives from the ŠKODA
    AUTO Quality and Development evaluated
    research papers at the Student Research Confer-
    ence held every year by the University of Chemis-
    try and Technology in Prague. Students presented
    
    master’s theses. Term papers focused on tackling
    partial problems of common business practice.
    Bachelor’s and master’s theses confronted given
    problems in a complex manner. The best three

    The work presented in the sections was of a
    high quality, and the majority provided ŠKODA
    AUTO representatives with an overview of new
    materials (lightened materials, nanomaterials
    etc.), technology (PHEV batteries) and substances
    (photocatalysts based on titanium, anti-corrosion
    coating) and other valuable contacts and ideas
    from innovation development.
    HEALTH DAYS FOR STUDENTS OF
    THE VOCATIONAL SCHOOL
    The Health Protection Department and the
    Vocational School of Engineering held a
    

    girls had a whole morning to listen to instruc-

    during their free time. Students of the vocation-
    al school found the contents interesting. They
    particularly liked practical examples of stretching

    to-mouth resuscitation and cardiac massage.
    Health prevention of breast and testicular
    cancer was on the agenda. The Health Protec-
    tion department also organised a lecture and a
    follow-up discussion on eating disorders.
    THE MILLIONTH PISTON
    MOUNTED BY A ROBOT
    A cooperating robot, which has been work-
    ing on a mechatronics production line since
    November 2015, mounted the millionth piston
    on 14 December. Only automatic gearboxes use
    these pistons: There are four of them, and they
    are used to change gears in a gearbox. The robot
    with downtime of less than 1 percent of produc-
    tion time liberates employees from monotonous

    70 YEARS UNDER
    THE WINGS OF ŠKODA
    

    tion looking back at the history of the production
    plant. The exhibition held in a local château is
    open to the public until the end of January. It was
    prepared by the carmaker in cooperation with the
    Giant Mountains Museum in Vrchlabí. The exposi-
    tion describes the history of the Vrchlabí produc-
    tion site and its transformation through history
    – from carriages to a hi-tech company, the most
    modern site of all three ŠKODA AUTO production
    plants. It also showcases a range of activities for
    the public and the carmaker’s contribution to the
    town’s development. Apart from exhibition panels
    and exhibits, visitors can see two 15-minute vide-
    os about the past and the present.

    We will step on the gas this year
    ŠKODA AUTO Board Chairman Bernhard Maier looks back over the past 12 months
    Mr. Maier, what are your impressions one
    year after joining this company? What has
    been the biggest surprise?
    I enjoy working here, and I appreciate ŠKODA’s
    corporate culture. The style of cooperation
    throughout the company is pragmatic, friend-
    ly and goal-oriented, and that’s what I like. I
    believe this is the secret behind ŠKODA’s suc-
    cess, and I’m sure it will help us cope with the
    challenges we are facing.
    You took over as ŠKODA AUTO Board Chair-
    man at a time when the automotive indus-
    try was going through major changes. Can
    -
    ence the industry?
    I believe people will be driving cars in the fu-
    ture, simply because individual mobility offers
    the biggest amount of freedom and the high-
    est levels of comfort. Moreover, we like cars.
           -
    encing the future of automobiles. Innovative
    technologies will revolutionise the way cars
    are used. Autonomous cars will have the big-
    
    i.e. they will take the use of automobiles to a
    completely new level: more safety and com-
    fort and therefore less stress on the roads.
           
    People will keep busy by doing completely
    different things in autonomous cars: working,
    
    internet, playing games, shopping online, etc.
    As manufacturers, we will therefore have to
    become providers of mobility-related servic-
    es. We already know how to develop
    and manufacture cars, and we will
    need this competence in the
    future, too. The key task
    now will be to make
    the liaison between cars and digital networks
    
    and the urgent need to make the environ-
    ment clean are some additional key factors.
    Regenerative energy sources are growing in
    importance. Our future therefore lies in elec-
    tricity, and we are preparing for it. We don’t
    ask “if” any more; instead, we contemplate
    “how long” the whole process of change will
    take. These aspects are highly important in
    terms of planning our future, a future that I
    believe holds huge new opportunities for in-
    dividual mobility and cars in general, as well
    as for ŠKODA.
    Last year during the summer, ŠKODA pre-
    sented its new strategy. Compared with
    previous years, it seems that even the goals
    had to be described in a new way …
    Strategies are about planning the future. Ob-
         
    circumstances that we cannot predict, which
    is why nobody can say what the automotive
    industry will look like 10 years from now. Our
    strategic planning efforts involve our experi-
    ence and the use of the VW Group’s research
    capacities, as well as our own analyses, and
    all of this forms the basis for formulating pre-
    sumptions. The result is a picture of the future
    to help us decide in which direction the brand
    should move. To get there, we need to take a
    series of measures that take the form of in-
    vestments, production capacity management
    and decisions about new models. We describe
    all of that in the Strategy 2025. Obviously, this
    plan will be continually reviewed and updated.
    The production of the long-awaited SUV,
    the ŠKODA KODIAQ, is already moving full
    steam ahead. How do you feel about ŠKO-
    DA now producing SUVs?
    We have been doing that for quite some time,
    and we also produce the YETI. The KODIAQ is
    
    world’s biggest segment: compact SUVs. This
    segment is not only the biggest but also the
    fastest-growing. We are aware of the high-
    er demand for bigger SUVs in international
    markets. The KODIAQ beat all possible
    records even before its launch. Never
    before had the media, dealers and
    customers shown as much interest
    in a new ŠKODA model. It looks like
    we’ve hit the bull’s eye again.
    2016 was a record-breaking
    year, and not only in terms of
    sales. It was the most success-
    ful year in the company’s his-
    tory. What impact will these
    excellent results have on the
    brand’s future investments?
    Indeed, last year turned out to be highly suc-
    cessful, and although I have already thanked
    all the people involved, I’d like to do so again.
    My thanks also go to our social partner, the
    KOVO Union, and its Chairman, Mr. Jaroslav
    Povšík. We are currently in the middle of ne-
    gotiations whose goal is to solve major capac-
    ity problems and ensure good working condi-
    tions in our plants. If we want to bring ŠKODA
    successfully into the next era, we need to
    prepare. This process will take hard work, as
    well as substantial investments in technolo-
    gies, electric drive systems and development
    of digital services for autonomous cars.
    The growing demand for ŠKODA vehicles
    brings about growing pressure, primarily in
    terms of production. Is ŠKODA planning to
    increase its production capacities?
    Last year, we invested more than CZK 13 bil-
    lion in modernising and enlarging our domes-
    tic production capacities. The enlargement of
    the Kvasiny plant is in full progress, and the
    aim is to increase its annual production ca-
    pacity to over 290,000 vehicles. We are go-
    ing to invest about CZK 8 billion in this plant.
    Kvasiny will undergo the most extensive mod-
    ernisation in its history. In Mladá Boleslav, we
    are currently investing about CZK 2.4 billion
    in a state-of-the-art PXL press line. And we
    are going to open a new emission centre in
    

    Vrchlabí plant has become a hi-tech site over
    the past few years. To date, ŠKODA AUTO
    and the VW Group have invested about CZK
    
    these investments involve production halls
    and equipment, our gearbox production train-
    ing centre and logistics processes.
    We have already
    informed our read-
    ers of the impor-
    tance of the Chinese market for ŠKODA. Has
    the attitude to this market changed lately?
    ŠKODA is said to be “system-relevant” in the
    context of the Czech economy. China is equal-
    ly important for this company, as its market
    forms a pillar of our activities. In 2016, for the
    
    vehicles to local customers; China is therefore
    our biggest market. Our ambition is to double
    this number by 2020. That is why we made
    an agreement with our colleagues at SAIC
    Volkswagen early this year under which we
    are expected to invest about 2 billion euros in
    ŠKODA’s future products, their production and
    sales in China. Our share in the SAIC Volkswa-
    gen joint venture is a breakthrough: Now we
    can sell ŠKODA vehicles in China independent-
    ly, under the SAIC ŠKODA brand.
    What do you wish for our employees in
    2017?
    I wish us all another exciting and successful
    year and, most importantly, health and satis-
    faction – and good luck, too!

    The OCTAVIA Stood Out in Vienna
    The most successful ŠKODA model received a facelift and technical improvement after several years.
    T
    he Academy of Arts in Vienna saw a great
    success of a dazzling and substantial-
    
    time, ŠKODA AUTO Board Chairman Bernhard
    Maier and the brand’s chief designer, Jozef
    
    OCTAVIA COMBI and ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS to
    the public. Sales numbers speak louder than
    anything else. Be it a classic version or the
    RS, both are highly important for the carmak-
    er. Last year alone, 436,000 OCTAVIAs were
    sold, with the estate version the best-selling
    model in its segment in the EU.
    In total, 5 million deliveries to customers
    make the OCTAVIA the most-sold ŠKODA
    car. That is why the upgrade of the model,
    which is the incarnation of main brand val-
    ues, is so important. ‘This is the first time
    we have invested such a huge amount of
    effort and time when reworking the mod-
    el. We have given it more energy than ever.
    The ŠKODA OCTAVIA is entering the sec-
    ond half of its life cycle. It was a good car,
    but we wanted to make it even better than
    ever before. I can promise you that the new
    OCTAVIA will continue setting benchmarks
    and standards in its class’, said Bernhard
    Maier.
    Customers value our cars for their rationali-
    ty and high user functionality. That is why it
    was the purpose of OCTAVIA modernisation
    to add emotions and accentuate aesthet-
    ic qualities. A new mask interpreted within
    the spirit of ŠKODA design makes the current
    OCTAVIA wider.
    A bold design with a completely reworked
    front end goes hand in hand with a gener-
    ous interior with new ambient lighting. On
    the eve of the Vienna Auto Show, the car-
    maker also published technical details. A
    modernised OCTAVIA can brake to a stop in
    front of a pedestrian and uses blind spot
    detect and adaptive suspension. At 230 hp,
    or 169 kW, the OCTAVIA RS is 10 hp strong-
    er. Distinct dual headlights in higher trims
    use full-LED technology. The first custom-
    ers are currently receiving their new vehi-
    cles.

    Apart from a new face in the middle
    of its lifecycle, it has been given new
    on-board goodies and made a bit longer.
    The rear wheels are also a few more
    millimetres apart, and the RS version
    has 10 hp more.

    ROOMSTER, the look of the ŠKODA
    cars did not stir up any emotions.
    This is about to change. The existing
    SUPERB, and the KODIAQ, in part, have
    demonstrated it... Now the OCTAVIA.

    Outlook for 2017
    KVASINY CELEBRATES
    70TH ANNIVERSARY
    In autumn, the Kvasiny plant, where the YETI, SUPERB and
    KODIAQ are produced, will celebrate 70 years of existence
    
    produced here since 1974. Production of the brand’s new
    
    technology, assembly, logistic areas, as well as a number of
    new jobs.
    GET IN SHAPE FOR
    A RUN WITH THE BEAR
    The carmaker has been a longstanding partner
    of Teribear’s charity run for children in need. This
    year, there will also be an opportunity to join the
    bear and run in both Prague and Mladá Boleslav.
    You better start training now, because together we
    are about to support some more children in September!
    ŠKODA AUTO is a general partner of the 10-day event,
    which takes place in September, and has also set up a
    charity fund in cooperation with the Tereza Maxová Fund.
    PXL II
    IN OPERATION
    March will mark the transition to a full production process of the
    new servo-press line for bodywork parts in the Mladá Boleslav
    Press shop. The line’s daily production capacity is up to 23,000
    pressed pieces for several different models. ŠKODA AUTO has
    invested a total of EUR 86.4 million in the line, creating 140 new
    jobs in the process. With more than 1,000 employees in total, the
    car manufacturer will operate the new press line in 12-hour shifts,
    24 hours a day, seven days a week.
    DIGITAL
    SHOWROOMS
    The topics of digitalisation, connectivity and
    innovations, which are rocking ŠKODA AUTO right
    now, will be introduced in the dealership network
    as well. Dealer support tools are currently being
    developed, including the installation of interactive
    digital presentations and entertainment systems
    in the showrooms. All of this is aimed at solidifying
    the role of the dealership network and rendering
    it more attractive to the customer. By digitising its
    dealerships, ŠKODA takes another step towards
    becoming more appealing and successfully
    strengthening its image and position on the market.
    2017 will be packed with innovations
    But there is a lot more to look forward to! We will bring you regular updates on the pages of ŠKODA Mobil.
    A YEAR
    FULL OF
    NEW
    MODELS
    There are some model changes
    ahead for the Czech carmaker this
    year! Following the launch of the
    substantially revamped OCTAVIA, the
    newly redesigned CITIGO and RAPID are
    waiting to share the spotlight. At the
    end of the year, the improved KODIAQ
    will have its say, and the Frankfurt
    Motor Show will see the debut of the
    new YETI in September. Simultaneously
    with the presentation of new cars, the
    development of electric drives is in full
    swing. All in all, 2017 will be a busy year
    for ŠKODA AUTO.
    PAST AND PRESENT RALLIES
    This year, as in years past, the ŠKODA Motorsport team
    will rely on the Kopecký/Dresler duo. Apart from several
    starts at the WRC 2, the crew is going to participate in
    the Czech rally championship. The Tidemand/Andersson
    crew will strive to follow up on the success of the Lappi/
    Ferm duo in the ŠKODA FABIA R5. While Lappi was the
    
    Championship title, ŠKODA Motorsport dominated in the
    team ranking. ŠKODA AUTO is also going to take part
    in numerous events for classic cars this year. In the
    
    winter AvD Histo-Monte rally, which will be followed
    by the 29th Techno Classica Essen at the beginning
    of April. After the German Bodensee-Klassik in
    May comes the Czech 7 Castles Rally in Prague and
    Central Bohemia, with ŠKODA returning abroad two
    months later for the Silvretta Classic in Austria. ŠKODA

    MODERNISATION
    OF ŠKODA ACADEMY
    IS DOING WELL
    In 2017, the third phase of modernising the ŠKODA
    Academy will be concluded, which will include extensive
    reconstruction of the Secondary Vocational School of
    Mechanical Engineering, including the robotics lab, new
    language class rooms and multifunctional auditorium.
    Among the main goals is improving the learning
    environment for the apprentices according to the needs
    of ŠKODA AUTO’s Production area.
    DIGITAL LAB UNDER
    CONSTRUCTION IN PRAGUE
    ŠKODA is boosting its innovation and development
    competence in the digitalisation area by building a Digital
    Lab in Prague. The idea workshop will accommodate
    creative teams who will analyse and develop the brand’s
    new business models in the form of individual mobility
    services. The pilot phase of testing the Digital Lab is
    coming to an end, and the lab will start operating as an
    independent business entity of ŠKODA AUTO later this year.

    In May, ŠKODA AUTO will support the 57th Zlín Film Festival for Children and
    Youth for the 15th time as the main partner. The carmaker regularly provides

    and the carmaker will not be missing out on the 104th
    year either. Similarly to last year, the car manufacturer

    best sprinter. Located mainly in France, some stages will
    take the race – which takes place this year from 1 to 23
    July – to neighbouring countries. With regard to the IIHF
    World Ice Hockey Championship, the carmaker has been
    sponsoring the event for a record 25 years. The 81st
    championship will be held in Cologne and Paris this year.

    The Mechanical Engineering Fair in Brno 30 years ago marked

    For the fourth time already, apprentices
    of the Secondary Vocational School got
    the opportunity to build the car of their
    dreams. Since September last year, the
    team has been meeting and working hard
    on building the car whose completion is
    planned for this spring. Work on the whole
    project has helped the whole team expand
    their technical competence and soft skills.
    60 YEARS OF
    ŠKODA 450 AND
    1100 OHC MODELS
    Two models from the carmaker’s workshop – the ŠKODA 450 and 1100 OHC
    – will celebrate two major anniversaries this year. The ŠKODA 450 was a
    predecessor of the famous FELICIA, with 1,010 units produced between
    1957 and 1959. By comparison, the ŠKODA 1100 OHC, an open-top sports
    car, was a curiosity. The model was ŠKODA AUTO’s choice as the hopeful for
    the famous Le Mans race. Although this plan did not come to fruition, a very
    interesting model was created. One of the only two units that have survived
    comes from the archives of ŠKODA Museum.

    Annual settlement of income tax
    Do not forget to submit all the required documents for income tax settlement for 2016 by 15 February 2017.
    T
    o fill out the application for the annu-
    al settlement of income tax for 2016 and
    to sign documents relevant to the process-
    ing of monthly instalments of advance tax
    for 2017, please present yourself at an Ac-
    count Service Centre between 9 January and
    16 February 2017 (except on 31 January and 1
    February 2017 – when the account of salaries
    takes place). In this period, the centres will be
    open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. The entire word-
    ing for the Annual Settlement of Income Tax
    for 2016 is available on the Employee Portal.
    TAX CREDIT OVERVIEW
    Child placement tax credit: Is based on the
    provable cost in 2016 of placing a dependent
    child in childcare facilities for pre-school chil-
    dren. Its upper limit is set at CZK 9,900 for
    each dependent child living with the taxpay-
    er in one household. Only one parent can ap-
    ply for the tax credit.
    Basic and extended disability tax credit:
    Applies to disability pensions of the 1st, 2nd
    and 3rd grade.
    Spouse tax credit: You are entitled to a
    tax credit if you live in one household and
    your spouse’s income does not exceed CZK
    68,000 per year.
    Child student tax credit: A certificate of
    
    Dependent child care tax credit: If your
    spouse changed their job in 2016, you need
    
    the tax credit for a child of full legal age un-
    

    tion for the annual tax settlement that the
    employee uses to prove eligibility for tax

    vantage. They must be issued and submitted
    by 15 February 2017. It is worth making cop-
    ies of them in advance. If you have any ques-
    tions, contact the FRE and MYC departments,
    whose location, as well as the name of the
    respective accountant, can be found in the
    heading of the wage slip.

    Aramark employs more than 270,000
    people in 19 different countries. It has
    been operating in the Czech market
    since 1992 and is one of the biggest and
    most dynamic companies in the cater-
    ing sector – it operates more than 100
    restaurants in the country. It provides
    not only corporate, hospital and mili-
    tary catering but also catering at various
    sporting and social events. The catering
    company has received several awards –
    e.g. the National Quality Award of the
    Czech Republic and the Czech Top 100
    in the ranking of the 100 most important
    companies.
    Employees of the current operator,
    EUREST, will pass to the new opera-
    tor, as required by law. Apart from the
    change of employer, their employment
    relationships will not be affected in any
    
    the Employee Portal.

    Making effective phone calls
    C
    ash and the internal corporate process-
    es associated with its distribution and ac-
    counting become a problematic item with
    increasing costs in many companies both
    domestic and abroad. In this regard, ŠKODA
    AUTO is no exception. According to many do-
    mestic and international surveys in recent
    
    the process of administration, reduces costs
    and increases security.
    LIMITATION OF CASH TRANSACTIONS
    Therefore, as part of the “Cash transaction
    optimisation” project, the FT department has
    long been addressing the issue of reducing
    or completely eliminating cash transactions
    in the company. Instead of paper money, em-
    ployees can use business credit cards (BCC),
    cashless payment or alternative products,
    such as the prepaid card. This serves main-
    ly as an additional payment product that
    will help reduce the number and volume of
    cash transactions, mainly at Main cash tell-
    er in Mladá Boleslav and branch plants. Em-
    ployees will use it mostly for business trips
    (where the BCC is not a suitable product), or
    it can be extended to other areas of work in
    the future. The decision about which card is
    to be granted to an employee will be the re
    -
    sponsibility of the superior, who approves
    granting of the card. The card holder will
    have only as much money available as he or
    she needs. Payment cards also provide a sig-
    
    risk when distributing cash to employees.
    The aim of the optimisation is to limit not
    only cash transactions but also the paper-
    work associated with it. Time requirements
    must also be taken into account. Banknote
    handling puts a burden on workers of spe-
    cialised departments, as well as employees
    who receive cash at the cash tellers during
    working hours or return the cash due to set-
    tlement.
    Starting on 10 January this year, the use of
    cards is in its introductory phase, during
    which the solution’s functionality in produc-
    tive systems will be tested. This “pilot” phase
    will last until the end of July 2017, when ap-
    proximately 50 cards will be issued. Deploy-
    ing the prepaid cards as a standard product
    is planned from the beginning of August. Em-
    ployees will apply for the grant of payment
    cards through a new e-form, which is being
    tested at the moment. The form will be avail-
    able for both types of cards, and in the case
    of the prepaid card, it will not be required to
    sign the material responsibility agreement as
    in the case of the business credit card when
    the employee handles entrusted bank funds
    (credit line).

    ffective as of 2 January 2017, about 7,000
    employees at the Kvasiny plant have start-
    ed a new 18-shift system.
    Last year in August, the ŠKODA AUTO manage-
    ment and the KOVO Union reached an agree-
    ment to introduce an 18-shift system at the
    Kvasiny plant in order to meet customers’ high
    demand for Kvasiny-produced models and to
    comply with the obligations arising from the
    expansion of the SUV programme on this site.
    The actual transition to the 18-shift system
    comes three months after a similar change in
    the Mladá Boleslav Paint Shop that introduced
    a 17-shift operation.
    Several months of preparations on the Plan-
    ning and Recruitment sides preceded this
    move, which is one of the biggest organisa-
    tional changes in Production in the past few
    years. “The conditions for implementing the
    18-shift system, including the schedule and all
    relevant social aspects, is a result of hard work
    put in by a project team made up of company
    experts in Kvasiny and Mladá Boleslav, as well
    as representatives of the KOVO Union’s local
    organisations and management”, says Kvasiny’s
    -
    preciates the parties’ cooperation and adds
    that “the main ambition of this team was to
    harmonise the company’s requirements with
    the needs of the employees concerned”.
    TROUBLE-FREE START
    Careful preparations and the parties’ respon-
    sible approach have paid off. Although facing
    special circumstances, namely the KODIAQ pro-
    duction launch and the extraordinarily mas-
    sive recruitment of new employees, Kvasiny
    coped with the start of the new system really
    

    team members representing the trade union,
    promoted employees’ interests and comment-
    ed on ŠKODA AUTO’s proposals throughout the
    preparatory stage.
    Adequate numbers of staff members were pro-
    
    
    system, as well as for the newly introduced
    Saturday shifts 16, 17 and 18. The employees
    came to work in line with their individual work
    calendars. The following days brought no staff-
    ing problems, either – rather, the management
    was concerned about the weather conditions.
    Each site is staffed in compliance with the re-
    spective (operational) standard, a situation that
    has been helped by hiring about 2,000 new
    colleagues in 2016 and increasing the number
    of agency-provided staff. Despite the system
    change and the large number of new employ-
    ees, the quality of work has been high from the
    very beginning.
    In the coming weeks, the efficiency of the
    
    have arisen from this change will be reviewed
    
    brand’s social partner. The new system will
    help the Kvasiny plant comply with all its obli-
    gations and meet all its ambitious goals. One of
    the most important aspects is that this change
    
    wait for their favourite models produced by this
    plant will be reduced. Big thanks for the trou-
    ble-free start go out to all those who have pre-
    pared this change, as well as those directly
    involved in the new system.

    Marketing and worked as an HR Marketing Co-

    cess because my predecessor was leaving for
    Kvasiny. Mind you, I don’t really know which

    Have you already heard what people are
    saying about yours?
    I am afraid not many people can imagine the
    whole array of areas that each department in
    this huge company is responsible for. No, I ha-
    ven’t heard anything about the reputation of
    my current department so far. We have heard
    some words of praise from other departments
    lately, which is not only pleasant but also
    something that motivates us to carry on im-
    proving our services, both internally and exter-

    PowerPoint presentations seem to be a rath-
    er typical thing. And I think we could do with
    some more trust and friendliness – that might
    help us achieve even more as a team. Every-
    body needs to start with themselves, other-
    wise we may as well do endless PowerPoint
    presentations about changing the company
    culture.

    ŠKODA organises an Advent skating campaign for employees and their families

    etween December of last year and early
    January this year, ŠKODA AUTO employ-
    ees got a chance to enjoy ice-skating at all
    of the brand’s production locations – Mladá
    Boleslav, Kvasiny (Solnice) and Vrchlabí.
    Mladá Boleslav and Solnice offered every-
    day skating opportunities in outdoor arenas.
    In addition to the ice rinks, both sites in-
    cluded heated facilities for changing clothes
    and shoes (skates), getting warm or rent-
    ing skates for free, as well as refreshment
    
    featured St. Nicholas and Devil shows and
    presents for children.
    The Vrchlabí plant reserved the local ice sta-
    dium for six days for its employees. The ser-
    vices included free tea, skating trainers and
    skating practice equipment for young chil-
    dren.
    Although the ice rink in Mladá Boleslav was
    open for one week shorter than last year
    
    Arena attracted over 13,000 visitors over
    34 days! Nearly 6,500 skaters turned up in
    Solnice in its Year 1, and the Vrchlabí sta-
    dium saw about 600 employees and their
    family members over the six weekend days.
    With 1,500 students using the Mladá Bole-
    slav and Solnice ice rinks during the morn-
    ing hours reserved for elementary and
    secondary schools, the campaign attracted
    a total of more than 20,000 visitors at its
    three venues. Thank you for skating with
    us!

    he launched replacements of lighting
    systems in production and non-produc-
    tion areas of ŠKODA AUTO are continuing
    with success. The currently used lighting sys-
    tems, which generally consist of outdated
    discharge lamps, are very energy-demanding,
    and their maintenance is very costly. There-
    fore, they are gradually replaced with new
    lamps using the LED technology with a so-
    phisticated adjustment, control and visualis-
    ation.
    In recent months, the lighting system in Press
    shop M12A has been reconstructed under the
    
    and Construction and Infrastructure Planning
    departments, as well as in collaboration with
    the staff of the PFO-P department. The hall is
    unique not only for its height of 17.5 m up to
    the truss space level but also for the place-
    ment of its sizeable technological equipment.
    So it was not easy to meet the requirement
    for high lighting intensity (as much as 500 lx)
    and at the same time to prevent too disrup-
    tive a glare due to frequent manipulation
    with gantry cranes. The implementing team
    also had to ensure the replacement under full
    operational conditions without any downtime
    in production.
    The original lightning system, composed of
    discharge lamps with power of up to 2,000 W,
    was replaced with LED lamps of only 200 W
    of electric energy consumption, which are
    fully adjustable depending on the daylight
    intensity. The connection of programma-
    ble lamp stabilisers with the control system
    is provided by the DALI bus. The lamps sup-
    
    with each other through the RS 485 serial
    line. The system is also connected to the cor-
    porate data network via an Ethernet interface
    (known as a LAN). The advanced system ena-
    bles visualisation, adjustment diagnostics of
    the lamps, creation of light maps or displaying
    and archiving a multitude of parameters mon-
    
    is also working on visualisation and connec-
    tion to the control system through a Web in-
    terface, which will provide the possibility of
    predictive maintenance and system manage-
    ment without need for a technician.
    Electricity savings, which in this case amount-
    ed to more than 2,000 MWh annually, con-
    firmed the meaning of the GreenFuture
    concept with the return of the whole invest-
    ment in 2.5 years.
    It is quite obvious that the direction set by
    the GreenOffice department and the im-
    plementation team with the support of the

    efore the general company summer hol-
    idays took place, the Foundry became
    a place for workshops supported by the
    GreenOffice department. These launched
    the long-term QUEST energy-saving pro-
    gramme. As compressed air is the “heart”
    of production plants, it has become clear
    that the largest savings can be achieved
    by reducing the consumption of pneumat-
    ic energy during casting, machining and
    maintenance. Therefore, a competition to
    reduce compressed air consumption was
    announced in the Foundry – the so-called
    Air League, which took place from 28 No-
    vember until 24 December 2016. The man-
    agement of the Foundry, led by Jaroslav
    Müller, as well as representatives
    from the Production and Mainte-
    nance departments and the ex-
    ternal company HE Consulting participated
    in the event.
    The actual competition was preceded by
    trainings during which all employees of the
    Foundry learned step by step about the main
    features of the Air League, in which individu-
    al shifts and departments competed against
    each another. They were further subdivided
    according to their specialisations – casting,
    machining and maintenance.
    And which activities helped reduce com-
    pressed air consumption? The elimination of
    leaks, optimisation of everyday activities on
    the devices, shutdown of unused ones, pres
    -
    sure adjustment and timing.
    What was important, however, was the feed-
    back the employees regularly received and
    how well they did, scoring one point for
    every percent saved up. It was interest-
    ing to see the teams enthusiastically com-
    pete against one another and the amazing
    
    The Foundry managed to reduce its com-
    pressed air consumption by 15 percent in De-
    cember, a decrease of 1.5 million crowns a
    year, which was positively reflected in the
    price of each casting that ŠKODA AUTO re-
    leased on the market.
    The winning teams in casting, machining and
    maintenance will be rewarded, as will individ-
    uals, who will receive additional special priz-
    es in February this year.
    Under the QUEST energy-saving programme,
    the car company will continue to ensure that
    energy is saved as much as possible. There-
    fore, another Air League started at the end of
    January. This time, the competition will take
    place in the Forge!

    AdBlue dispenser in the
    plant
    O
    n 12 January 2017, an AdBlue dispen-
    ser was put into operation at the pe-
    trol station. Those who use business
    diesel cars with the SCR technology can
    now easily replenish AdBlue the same
    way they refuel. This eliminates the com-
    
    plastic canisters, which will simultane-
    ously reduce the production of plastic
    waste. Refilling of AdBlue for passen-
    ger cars right from the dispenser is still
    very rare, and ŠKODA AUTO is among the
    
    Czech Republic.

    Employees of ŠKODA AUTO can
    come up with their own proposals
    to improve environmental
    protection

    he motivational event GreenZ.E.B.R.A.
    
    for 2017. The objective remains the
    same: to focus the activity of all ŠKODA
    AUTO employees on environmental
    protection.
    A proposer must be a tariff employ-
    ee of ŠKODA AUTO at the time of
    registering their proposal, and their
    Z.E.B.R.A. (Improvement or Order pro-
    posal, except for the one from the
    KVP workshop) proposal needs to be
    submitted and registered in the set
    time frame. If implemented, the pro-
    posal should have a quantifiable con-
    tribution. A special prize: According
    to ON.1.030, a reward for quantifia-
    ble contributions will increase by 20
    percent and will be established from
    the expected contributions for the
    first year of use. One of the propos-
    ers will be drawn and receive an elec-
    tric bicycle from the ŠKODA AUTO
    collection. The draw will be carried
    out by the SP/2 Design centre de-
    partment with a drawing programme.
    Proposals that are not included in the
    event are clearly defined in the con-
    ditions.

    Technological novelties in The Production and Logistics sector were introduced to Konzern Produktion Kreis (K-PK)

    onzern Produktion Kreis (K-PK), whe-
    re members of the VW Group Boards for
    Production and Logistics meet, was held on
    December 16th in Mladá Boleslav. On that
    occasion, the ŠKODA AUTO Logistics team
    introduced existing innovative technologies
    and outlined the progress of logistics indu-
    stry. Car Production staff presented a new
    servo press line - PXL II, augmented reality
    used in the Press Shop, and smart solutions
    in the Paint Shop. A detailed report of the

    ou can peek into the production areas of
    the Tool shop, look into its history, search
    job opportunities, read the monthly maga-
    zine, Instrument, or try a topical quiz. All of
    this is offered in the newly launched websi-
    te with which the Tool shop wants to raise
    awareness of tool construction and manu-
    facture in the car company not only with em-
    ployees but with the wider public as well.
    “We don’t hand out screwdrivers and ham-
    mers in the Tool shop, but we develop, con-
    struct and produce complete serial tools and
    equipment for pressing of body parts, we
    build welding lines, manufacture moulds for
    high-pressure casting of aluminium engine
    blocks and box components for clutches and
    gearboxes. We supply the Press shops, Weld-
    ing shops, Foundries and Forges not only
    in ŠKODA AUTO but also in the VW Group. We
    create a connection between the Technical
    development and the serial manufacturing”,
    says Filip Koliáš, head of the Metallurgical
    tool production, and continues: “We say what
    -
    
    a lot of modern tools, which are not only of
    steel. We work with special software, apply
    virtual technologies in the production pro-
    cess, use simulation programmes and the
    experience of experts who work here in the
    Tool shop.” The Tool shop needs to maintain
    and develop its expert know-how. There-
    fore, it needs to attract new workers. It co-
    operates with universities and welcomes the
    moment when new workers, students, grad-
    uates or trainees come up with new ideas
    and insights from different perspectives. “I
    recently cooperated with the Technical Uni-
    versity of Liberec on the topic of 3D metal-
    lic printing, and the cooperation got me really
    excited. The Tool shop is an integral part of
    the production in all Group brands and has
    to thrive and be attractive also in the future”,
    Koliáš adds.
    The team that created the Tool shop web-

    The IT support was provided by Jitka Jírová,
    FIV/1 – Architecture, systems integration, roll-
    out, UX. “The Internet is an integral part of
    everyone’s life nowadays, and the Tool shop

    Douša from the Tool shop central manage-
    ment.

    40 years since the Monte Carlo triumph

    ted the 100th ŠKODA FABIA R5 in Mladá
    Boleslav. This small ceremony is another mi-
    lestone for this successful car. In 2016, the R5
    won the FIA WRC 2, three continental cham-
    pionships and a total of 10 national champi-
    onship titles. “This milestone shows the great
    global demand for our latest rally car and that
    the Customer Sports Department is doing a
    great job”, says Head of ŠKODA Motorsport
    Michal Hrabánek. The championship-winning
    factory-backed team promotes this car ex-
    cellently, too. “The factory team and the Cus-
    tomer Sports Department can benefit each
    other, and we can continue developing the
    ŠKODA FABIA R5”, adds Mr. Hrabánek.
    The model was released for competition use
    in April 2015 after successful FIA homologa-
    tion. In line with FIA regulations, the vehi-
    

    gine used in the R5’s predecessor, the ŠKO-
    DA FABIA SUPER 2000. ŠKODA Motorsport
    put in 15 months of hard development work

    Hundredth ŠKODA FABIA R5 delivered

    KODA organised a series of meet-ups
    between its employees and the facto-
    ry-backed team on the occasion of win-
    ning the FIA World Rally Championship,
    one of the biggest achievements in the
    115-year history of the brand’s motor-
    sport efforts. Nearly 3,000 people visited
    the six-day R5 Roadshow that took place
    at all of the ŠKODA plants in mid-Decem-
    ber. The guests got to know the FABIA R5
    used by Esapekka Lappi / Janne Ferm, the
    factory-backed duo that had sealed their
    overall triumph last year by winning the
    Australia Rally. “It was great to check out
    the FABIA R5 – taking a glimpse under the
    bonnet was an interesting experience. I am
    a big fan of ŠKODA Motorsport. I mainly vis-
    it rallies in the Czech Republic, primarily the
    Bohemia Rally and the Barum Czech Ral-
    ly Zlín”, said Richard Javornický of Assem-
    bly, Hall M1. Competitive visitors took part
    in a timed wheel-replacement competition.
    “My ambition was to replace the wheel in
    less than one minute, and I succeeded”,

    opportunity to leave the depot and hit the

    600 virtual racers tried out the VR-Gear
    system, a pair of special glasses that made
    it possible for them to take a ride without
    having to get up from their chair. The show
    also featured an exhibition of race overalls,

    cohol-free sparkling wine offered to every
    visitor and signed driver cards.

    ŠKODA celebrates factory team’s success
    
    One of the parts of the roadshow programme
    designed for competitive visitors – timed wheel replacement
    ŠKODA 130 RS
    Nicknamed the “Porsche of the East”,
    this car made its debut in 1975. With
    some of the body components made
    of aluminium alloy (roof, bonnet,
    outside door panels) and fibreglass
    (wings, engine protection), the
    ŠKODA 130 RS only weighed 720 kg
    and was fitted with a water-cooled
    1.3-litre four-cylinder OHV engine
    that produced as much as 140
    horsepower (104 kW). Technological
    highlights included a dual Weber
    carburettor, an eight-port cylinder
    head, dry crankcase lubrication,
    etc. The engine block was made of
    aluminium alloy, the cylinder head of
    grey cast iron.
    The design of Blahna’s winning
    car has been used as inspiration
    in producing a special collection
    of Monte Carlo promotional items
    that are now also available on
    eshop.skoda-auto.cz.

    Rally started off this year’s edition of the
    FIA Rally World Championship in which ŠKO-
    DA is defending its WRC 2 championship title.

    know that the factory team came up with a
    big surprise for the event by inviting Andre-
    as Mikkelsen / Anders Jæger, an experienced
    duo that had taken three third places overall
    in the last three WRC seasons. With ŠKODA’s
    40-year-old triumph in mind, the ambition of
    factory drivers Pontus Tidemand and Jan Ko-

    roundings is to continue this success story.
    HISTORIC ACHIEVEMENT
    BY THE “PORSCHE OF THE EAST”
    ŠKODA vehicles have been taking part in the
    famous Monte Carlo Rally for over 100 years.
    “With excellent results in both rallies and cir-
    cuit races in the 1970s and 1980s, the ŠKO-
    DA 130 RS was the most successful car. Its
    biggest achievements include the European
    Touring Car Championship victory in 1981 and
    
    Carlo Rally”, says Head of ŠKODA Motorsport
    Michal Hrabánek.
    On 28 January 1977, Monte Carlo saw Václav
    Blahna / Lubislav Hlávka win the under-1,300
    
    Motal, another Czech duo.
    The factory team prepared carefully for that
    rally, and each of the crews did as much as
    500 km a day in the event location. A total
    of 198 crews appeared on the start line on 22
    January 1977, but only the two ŠKODA 130 RSs
    
    days later.
    “The historic achievements by this car, as
    well as by the ŠKODA POPULAR and ŠKODA
    FAVORIT, among others, motivate us even
    today, and our current rally vehicle, the
    ŠKODA FABIA R5, is perfectly positioned
    to continue this success story”, adds Mr.
    Hrabánek.

Skoda Supplements

Škoda Mobil, the employee newspaper of the Mladá Boleslav-based carmaker, includes special supplements that focus on especially important topics from Škoda's perspective. Supplements can be a part of the newspaper, in the same format as the newspaper, inserted, for example, in the form of a flyer, or they can be stand-alone unique magazines in a specific format, such as supplements dedicated to new models, the brand's historical anniversaries, or other important information from the company's environment.
