Fabia WRC cars were produced before the launch of the second-generation production model.
Twenty years ago, the Fabia entered the rallying world
At the Geneva Motor Show in March 2003, Škoda Motorsport unveiled the Fabia WRC, a new product based on the sporty RS version of the first-generation Fabia production model. The car made its racing debut at the 2003 Rallye Deutschland and was the successor to the larger Octavia WRC in the top category. The compact newcomer was powered by a water-cooled four-cylinder turbocharged 2-litre engine that generated 221 kW (300 hp) and a maximum torque of 600 Nm. Power was transmitted to all four wheels via a sequential six-speed gearbox and three active differentials. The Fabia WRC marked the first step on the road towards a series of highly successful competition models: the Fabia S2000, the Fabia R5 and the current Fabia RS Rally2, which is already picking up its first victories.

Best Cars 2023: Octavia and Fabia won
In the readers’ poll conducted by the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, the Octavia won the title for the 11th time, dominating the rankings of imported cars in the compact class. Out of the 29 cars in competition, 13.6% of more than 100,000 readers voted for the Czech car. For the second time since 2008, the Fabia took the winner’s trophy, convincing 16.9% of voters in the small imported car category.
New foundation website
The Škoda Auto Foundation has a new website, www.nfsa.cz. The modernised look follows the development of the 2021 interactive annual report, for which the Foundation was awarded by the Donors Forum. The new website gives privileged space to Škoda Auto’s home regions – Mladá Boleslav, Vrchlabí and Rychnov – and also to the cartoon characters of Laurin and Klement.
Railway crossing without fear
A new episode of the Simply Clever podcast focuses on Škoda Auto’s Traffication app, which can be installed in the infotainment systems of most Škoda models. It warns drivers of an approaching train at a railway crossing. Michal Vondra, a mobile app specialist from EEH/4 – Development of Connectivity Frontends, explains exactly how the app works and what else it can alert drivers to.
Free admission to the Škoda Museum every Sunday
As a new benefit, all Škoda Auto employees now have free admission to the Škoda Museum and the Ferdinand Porsche Birth House in Vratislavice every Sunday. The 1 + 1 free admission is valid for employees and their company upon presentation of MFA card at the ticket office. The visits are self-guided.
After one year, the Octavia has reclaimed its position as the bestselling car in the country with 13,906 registrations last year. The Fabia finished a close second. Škoda models occupied seven out of the Top 8 spots.
The best fleet EV of 2023 is the Enyaq Coupé RS iV, which won this category in the Czech Fleet Derby poll. Third place among SUVs and crossovers went to the Karoq.
Quotation of the month
The new corporate identity has received a positive response internally, as well as from customers, importers and dealers. It will now be gradually rolled out across the dealer network, and the revised logo will start appearing on cars from the end of the summer.

Laurin & Klement campus already has a roof
Work on the new management building of Škoda Auto in Mladá Boleslav is progressing well. The so-called richtfest, which marks the completion of the building structure up to the roof level, was held on 2 February. At this event, a decorated tree was placed on the roof, and several Board members, including Chairman Klaus Zellmer, were in attendance. The new building will incorporate numerous New Work principles, which will be presented in workshops for managers and will also be introduced in a video with K. Zellmer. This video will soon be available on Škoda Space.
Railway car heads to the museum
The carmaker uses more than 330 railway cars to transport finished cars by rail. In February, it donated one of them to the collection of the National Technical Museum in Prague. It was a Laaeks series railway car that had been in service since 1964 and had undergone several major revisions since then. These railway cars have a length of 23.5 metres and are designed to transport 10 passenger cars. Škoda Auto dispatches approximately half of its production from its domestic plants using trains.
Škoda Plus, a programme of cross-checked used cars, continued to attract customers last year. Dealers sold a total of 42,800 cars under the programme. See which models were most popular.

Unique Link Between Management and Production
The first forepersons’ meetings for the year were held to reflect on last year, look ahead to the coming year and discuss various current topics and issues. At these events, the Škoda Auto Board members described the subjects to the forepersons in attendance.
Two Monday afternoons at the end of January and beginning of February were dedicated to meetings of foremen and forewomen with Škoda Auto Board members. This is the sixth year that the meetings have been held in this format, and they have always preceded the meetings with the forepersons in the spring. Almost 500 employees in Mladá Boleslav and 200 in Kvasiny met in person after a two-year break when the event was held only virtually.
The meetings were moderated by Marek Jancák, Head of the PF – Car Production department. He began by highlighting the increasing number of forewomen (52 women out of a total of 741 in the carmaker, which represents 7%) and recapitulated the fulfilled promises, such as the opportunity to test the driving characteristics of electric cars, before mentioning the cultural and electric days and workshops that have been organised. He also highlighted health projects, such as physiotherapy in the workplace and the further development of digitisation in the form of the distribution of the first set of tablets, the use of digital payroll and mobile apps.
Forewomen and foremen are indispensable to Škoda Auto. They form a valuable link with the production staff and move the carmaker forward.
Klaus Zellmer
Škoda Auto CEO
Difficult times do not prevent massive investments
Škoda Auto CEO Klaus Zellmer sat between two seven-seater cars (the Vision 7S and a Škoda 860 from 1932) on the podium at the Škoda Museum. He recalled his visits to dozens of departments and his meetings with hundreds of employees whom he praised for their high motivation and innovative spirit. He mentioned the challenges the carmaker faced last year, which they all met with honour: Despite an unstable supply, Škoda Auto produced almost 780,000 cars and delivered 731,300 to customers. He also noted that despite the difficult conditions, the carmaker achieved a very solid financial result.
Michael Oeljeklaus, Board Member for Production and Logistics, spoke about the current global crisis: the problems with the supply of semiconductors and materials or the lockdown in China. It is the reason the economy over there is suffering from a shortage of workers, which leads to transport delays and supply constraints. He also mentioned that the current war in Ukraine remains a risk for future operations, as does the limited gas supply.
Maren Gräf, Board Member for People & Culture, concluded the management presentation by thanking everyone for their flexibility in 2022 and the good cooperation with the social partner, the KOVO Trade Union. She also stressed that she supports the digitalisation steps to relieve the administrative burden on masters – of the 13 defined packages, 10 have already been implemented. She singled out the Digi Roadshow as a success, through which the carmaker has trained more than 21,000 employees from the direct area in the easy access and use of digital devices and services.
During the meeting, all Board members presented the outlook for the next period to the forewomen and foremen (see What Lies Ahead). The remainder of the meeting was devoted to answering questions posed by the audience via the Slido mobile app. The questions covered a range of topics, from queries about the sustainability of the 18-shift system and the carmaker’s investment in charging stations to details about the tablets, the situation around semiconductors and concerns of Kvasiny employees over the potential loss of employment with the relocation of Superb production. The discussions also touched on annual rental prices for employee cars, the possibility of integrating the MFA card into a mobile app and competitiveness during the growing offensive of cheaper Chinese cars. The answers to unanswered questions were provided to employees in the regular Newsletter for Forepersons.

These events are great because we learn interesting facts about what Škoda Auto is up to and what its immediate future holds. We talked about the areas that are weighing on people’s minds and that they discuss daily. I’m glad I could be there. I’m satisfied with the management’s answers; they were exhaustive.
Andrea Kiliánová
Forewoman, PFK-M/14a V – Assembly Shop 1
Dialogue is needed between the management and production people. It is important that they listen to our opinions and, in turn, that we have a chance to find out how they see things. Overall, I was satisfied with the management responses; of course, if all three of them had more time to prepare and more space to talk, their responses would have been even more detailed and the whole issue better explained. However, given the time, it was great.
What lies ahead
Škoda Auto’s future as seen by its Board
Topics of the carmaker’s direction in the coming years revolved around a new design language, corporate identity, logo, three new electric models by 2026 and investments of EUR 5.6 billion (over CZK 130 billion) in eMobility.
New markets and challenge
The CEO highlighted the continuation of the electric offensive. “Deliveries of the Enyaq iV are up 20% year on year, and the car is topping the sales statistics in a lot of countries. We have another 63,000 orders on record,” Klaus Zellmer added. He added that internal combustion engine cars remain the company’s mainstay and core product. He also mentioned the planned investment in digitisation, which will reach EUR 700 million (roughly CZK 16.5 billion) by 2026.
In his outlook, he expressed cautious optimism about supply and praised the good demand for Škoda cars – the company has 450,000 orders outstanding. Thus, the plan is to increase production. “The good news is the launch of orders for the Enyaq RS iV in the first European markets or the upcoming upgrades of the Kamiq and Scala around mid-year, which will be complemented by the new Superb and Kodiaq in the second half of the year,” Zellmer concluded his summary.
Capacity utilisation
Michael Oeljeklaus presented the plans according to the ramp-up of each of the models in the various countries and mentioned the challenges that Škoda Auto will face. These include demanding production management with an unstable supply chain, the preparation and implementation of the UNECE cybersecurity guidelines, plant utilisation and the transition to newly developed platforms, expansion of production abroad and capacity utilisation. He concluded his presentation with the future development of infrastructure – the new factory bridge in Mladá Boleslav and the noise barrier in Kvasiny.
Continuing transformation
M. Gräf mentioned the importance of company transformation. She said that the transition to eMobility and a software-driven society means that everyone needs to acquire new competences. Learning and skills development will become a key competence of the future. At Škoda Auto, the current learning ecosystem will be transformed into a dynamic digital employee training. The Degreed learning platform, which the carmaker will launch in the coming months, will serve this purpose.

Return on Sales (an indicator marking the ratio between a company’s profit after tax and its total sales)
Klaus Zellmer, Škoda Auto CEO, highlighted the key achievements of 2022, including solid deliveries, the sales growth of the Enyaq iV range and the establishment of a new identity and design language. He emphasised that it had been a very challenging period due to inflation and supply chain difficulties. “I truly appreciate how you and your teams have handled all these challenges,” K. Zellmer told the members of the management team.
Looking ahead to this year, he mentioned the targeting of promising markets in terms of profitability. According to him, new models also represent a big promise – not only the already mentioned Enyaq RS iV but also the upcoming upgrades of the Kamiq and Scala, as well as the new generations of the Superb and Kodiaq. “Teamwork is the foundation of the company’s successful transformation,” K. Zellmer stressed. This was followed by a panel discussion moderated by A. Kilien, Head of GK – Communications. The topics that were discussed included:
Russia
Until the outbreak of war in Ukraine in 2022, the country had been Škoda’s third-largest market. “The enormous drop in volume has had a correspondingly negative impact on our results. Moreover, there are the costs caused by shutting down our production and distribution capacities,” admitted Christian Schenk, Board Member for Finance and IT. At present, there are no future prospects in Russia; Škoda Auto sympathises with the Ukrainian people and has provided assistance beyond the VW Group in cooperation with the KOVO Trade Union.
India
India has the greatest potential for the Škoda brand, although it is also targeting other markets. “Having concluded a contract in Vietnam, we’re in an excellent position to gain a foothold in Southeast Asia,” noted Martin Jahn, Board Member for Sales and Marketing.
Shortage of semiconductors and other parts
In the VW Group, the Compass working group led by Karsten Schnake, Board Member for Procurement, is working hard to improve the semiconductor supply situation. “The most important thing now is to stabilise VW Group supplies. Supply security will continue to gradually improve over the coming months,” assured Schnake. For example, there are more than 1,000 semiconductors in the Enyaq iV, and if even one is missing, the car cannot be completed. “Thanks to close collaboration with our suppliers, the logistics team and the KOVO Trade Union, we can react very quickly,” emphasised Michael Oeljeklaus, Board Member for Production and Logistics.

People Empowerment
The People & Culture area is preparing employees for the transformation. In April, it will launch Degreed, a one common learning experience platform for all employees. Thanks to it, the company gets an overview of the skills potential of its employees and identifies where re- and upskilling are needed.
“We also have to find the right way to combine the reaching our targets while practicing well-structured, future-oriented talent development. Whether it‘s successors to management positions, experts in their fields or tech talents,“ said Maren Gräf, Board Member for this area. The Boards of Škoda Auto and the VW Group have also agreed on the introduction of an ESG bonus factor (sustainable investment criteria based on environmental, social and corporate governance considerations) for management remuneration.
EU7
The new EU7 emission standard, which is currently in the drafting phase, poses a major challenge. “There is still great uncertainty about the legislative requirements, so it’s difficult to define the right technical solutions that would meet the new emissions standard,” said Johannes Neft, Board Member for Technical Development. Škoda Auto is aware of the risks the proposals under consideration pose to the entire automotive sector and is lobbying hard for an acceptable version of the standard. “Changes are needed to make the draft acceptable. That’s why we are working with a task force in the VW Group on counterproposals,” said M. Jahn.

Foreign markets that show potential
Despite the challenges resulting from the war in Ukraine and the semiconductor crisis that have affected Škoda Auto and the rest of the automotive industry, interest in the Czech brand’s cars around the world has not declined. On the contrary, in some markets, there was even a significant rise. What was behind this increase?
India
In this fast-growing Asian market, Škoda Auto is responsible for the activities of the entire VW Group and is making great efforts to exploit this potential. The results are already evident: Thanks to the new Kushaq and Slavia models, the Škoda brand more than doubled its deliveries in India last year, making it the carmaker’s third-largest market in the world. In addition, it became one of the Top 10 bestselling car brands in India for the first time. “We also managed to almost double our dealer network last year, and customers can now find us at nearly 200 locations. We wish to continue this growth in the coming year,” says Pushkar Patwardhan, Sales Manager India, VIA – Africa, India, Asia and Overseas.

Serbia and Montenegro
The Czech brand has held the No. 1 position in the local market since 2017. It has earned this position thanks to its longstanding cooperation with importer AutoČačak, with which it has partnered for more than a quarter of a century. Last year, Škoda achieved higher deliveries here than the previous year, with a market share of more than 20%. “Sales to fleet customers, which, in addition to state institutions, included the large pharmaceutical company Hemofarm, also contributed to this,” says Jana Burda Olivová, Sales Manager UA, SRB, MD from the VE/5 – Region 5. The goal for this year is to increase deliveries in Serbia and Montenegro to more than 6,100 cars.

Winning a tender for cars for the local police was key to the Czech brand’s success in the New Zealand market. Since mid-2021, the carmaker has been supplying Superb Combi cars to the police in stages, which has increased its awareness and sales to other customers. Last year, deliveries increased by more than a quarter year on year, and its market share is approaching 2%. “The New Zealand market is currently undergoing significant electrification, driven by government incentives and the fact that 82% of the energy mix is renewable. Although Škoda has only offered combustion or hybrid models so far, we plan to launch the Enyaq iV in the middle of this year,” adds Ondřej Švásta, Sales Manager Overseas from VIC – Sales China, Asia and Overseas.

Portugal
Despite supply chain disruptions and the limited availability of some cars in most other European markets, car deliveries in the Portuguese market increased by almost a fifth last year. “The well-adjusted sales strategy of the Kamiq and Scala, which were not affected by the disruption,” contributed to this success, according to Jiří Flígr, Sales Manager AT, PT from VE1 – Region 1. In particular, sales of the Kamiq almost doubled, with the automatic transmission variant being particularly attractive to private customers, which is unusual in this segment. The main objective this year is to deliver up to 4,000 cars in Portugal and increase the market share from 1.35% to 2%.

A year of growth and new opportunities
The SAP Group Competence Center continues to expand its team. New challenges await, especially in the area of logistics system support.
For more than 10 years, the SAP Group Competence Center at Škoda Auto has been providing services to the entire VW Group in the most widely used business process information management system (more information can be found in the February 2022 issue of Škoda Mobil). The company continues to undergo dynamic development: Last year alone, the team in Mladá Boleslav and Prague grew by 66 new employees, almost one-third of whom are women. The newcomers include both senior and junior colleagues who received further training through the IT Camp directly in the department.
215
Current number of employees in Škoda Auto’s SAP Group Competence Center.
272
Target number of employees that the Center wants to reach by the end of 2023.
The Competence Center needs to be strengthened this year because the portfolio of services it provides is constantly expanding. This growth provides opportunities for candidates who are process-oriented and have SAP knowledge or, at least, the motivation to learn new skills. You can find the current available positions on the Škoda Career website.
For the VW Group, we offer sustainable professional and competitive SAP solutions. In the coming years, we will concentrate on the large SAP projects in the VW Group, such as Parts4.0 and Trans4m. We have various projects and support tasks ahead of us, which is why we offer our employees opportunities for development.
Sonja-Isabell Schulz
Head of FIC – SAP Group Competence Center
New projects in logistics
The FIC – SAP Group Competence Center unit is already focused on solutions in financial systems, digital treasury systems for financial reporting, SAP archiving services, user support and many others. In 2023, it will have many new projects ahead of it, especially in the area of logistics systems support.
New developments in the competence of Škoda Auto experts include Lean ERP projects (enterprise resource planning). This is the flagship system for the VW Group’s MKD and CKD plants, which has gained popularity primarily due to its comprehensive coverage of logistics processes and rapid implementation options. The integrated solution also uses a production management system delivered in cooperation with Škoda Auto teams.
Another major project in the field of logistics is the EWM project. This should replace the existing logistics solution using the WM (Warehouse Management) module with the new EWM (Extended Warehouse Management) module.
I’m new to the team, having joined in July 2022. Currently, I work on Application Management Services for the Audi plant in Brussels and Volkswagen in Saxony. As my career is just starting, I appreciate that every day is a little different, and I have the chance to constantly expand my knowledge. In our department, I particularly value the friendly environment and teamwork, which help us to achieve the best possible results.

Re-organisation
The significant expansion of the workforce has required a re-organisation, which is set to take place in April. A new FIA unit will be created out of the existing FIC department, and both will form the SAP Group Competence Center. The division of the department serves multiple goals. Specifically, it aims to intensify personnel work, allocate professional competencies and strengthen the training of current and new employees in areas like logistics processes, financial processes, SAP technologies and development.

Expanding competencies
The recent presentation of the curriculum of the 42 Prague non-profit educational institute, founded by Škoda Auto, was also attended by representatives of the SAP Group Competence Center – not only as guests but also as students. Gabriela Tan, IT Business Analyst Project MGM from the FIC/I – ET2000 & Parts4.0 Application Support unit, Aleksander Karasev, IT Business Analyst – SAP from the FIC/6 – SAP basis for VW unit, and Denis Lom, BA SAP Process and System Standards from the FIC/G – SAP GPD & Security unit, were also accepted into the comprehensive training programme for software developers.

Electromobility Preparations
The main goal of the F1 – Future Factory and F4 – Capacities and Products action fields is to transform capacities and enable a gradual transition of production from combustion to new electric models with the help of continued digitisation.
Intensive digitisation
The F1 action field emphasises the digitisation of production processes, the development of digital competencies and the use of data analytics in production. “In cooperation with our IT colleagues, we’re preparing, among others, a data warehouse to store data, as opposed to the data lake used today, so that we don’t duplicate it and can have it ready for subsequent analysis,” says the guarantor of this field, Tomáš Posekaný, Project Manager for data communication from the PPD – Digitisation and Industry 4.0 department. Another important project is the digital production platform (DPP). “Within its framework, we’re developing a new ERP system for the tool room, and now we’re testing the Human Work Planning module, which will replace the current Arbeitsplan. In the future, in addition to industrial engineering, it will also support production planning, serial technology and production as a whole. We will start with it in Pune, India, as the processes there are the closest to those of the Group, and then transfer it to the Czech Republic,” says T. Posekaný.
Digitisation workshops
Owing to the various different digital solutions and systems used by the carmaker, an expert group was created last year to organise workshops focused on these solutions. “So far, it has introduced the topics of visualisation, data analytics and shopfloor IT systems. However, we also plan workshops on the digital factory, communication technologies, predictive maintenance, identification and localisation, automation and more,” concludes T. Posekaný.
Tomáš Posekaný
Project Manager – Data Communication from PPD – Digitisation and Industry 4.0
People, not just technology, play a key role in digital transformation. That is why we place a strong emphasis on digital training for our employees and supporting new talent. In so doing, we cooperate with the Škoda Academy and technical universities.
DAP Competence Centre
Last year, the PPD department began preparing a DAP (data analytics platform) Competence Centre that will serve the manufacturing sector, in particular. “The centre will provide support for the development phase, in which suitable solutions will be sought and tailored to specific user needs,” explains T. Posekaný. Currently, one senior employee is in charge of the work, but five more colleagues will join the team soon.
Gradual transition to eMobility
“Our main task is to prepare for the advent of electromobility and the rapid transformation of capacities for the production of electric cars,” says Michal Kobzák, the guarantor of the F4 action field and Project Manager of the PPS-4 – Management of Production Concepts department. Škoda Auto is planning new production concepts to ensure the production of electric cars in the future. The transformation of production from combustion cars to electric cars will lead to changes (especially in the main production plant) on the MB I line, where the Octavia and Enyaq iV are now jointly produced. Some models’ production will be relocated to Czech plants, thereby allowing Mladá Boleslav to expand its portfolio with additional electric cars.
Michal Kobzák
Project Manager, PPS-4 – Management of Production Concepts
The aim of our long-term activities is to gradually prepare the Mladá Boleslav production lines for the production of electric vehicles. The entire transformation process is being carried out across Škoda Auto and triggering the necessary changes not only in PF – Car Production but also in PK – Component Production and in Purchasing.
Domestic production
The Mladá Boleslav plant is gradually preparing to increase the capacity of electric cars to 800 units per day, which should be achieved by the end of 2024. It is already considering an increase in capacity to 1,000 of these cars per day so that only electric cars will be produced here in the future. This will enable the plant to make the aforementioned production shifts.

Chemicals Under Control
Consistently kept records of chemical products help protect the health of employees and the environment.
At Škoda Auto, chemical products are handled almost everywhere in the production facility. Because many of the substances are hazardous, their storage and handling need to be closely monitored, which is essential to prevent damage to the health of employees and pollution of the environment. Experts from the PSU – Environmental and Work Protection and PPF-L – Paint Shop Planning departments oversee the entire process of chemical management in production, from the development of methodologies through approval and record-keeping to inspections in the form of audits.

The carmaker uses the Eisprow database system to keep track of its chemical products. At the end of 2022, it had 9,950 items listed in the inventory, of which 4,827 were in use. The rest of the substances recorded are no longer used by Škoda Auto. The PSU team processed 2,562 requests that contributed to the changes in the chemical product records. Most of these were to pair chemicals with a given workplace or facility. PSU staff also registered 289 new safety data sheets and updated 614 others. “As long as the individual operations ordered and created chemical baskets correctly via EBP (instructions are available on the Škoda Space – ed.), everything worked,” says David Harazim, a coordinator from PSU/4 – ECMS, MCC. “We continue to monitor chemicals this year, so if you wish to send new and up-to-date safety data sheets or pair chemicals at your workplace, use the e‑mail request form,” adds D.Harazim.

Škoda Trees in 2023
The long-term project, which began in 2007 with the idea of one tree planted for every Škoda car sold in the Czech Republic, continues this year. By the end of 2023, volunteers will have planted 1,244,080 trees at more than 200 locations. Every year, dozens of Škoda Auto employees, as well as trainees, are involved in activities under the Škoda Trees banner. The project has been growing steadily, and 20 Škoda dealerships have participated in the past five years.
Come plant with us
Škoda Auto is launching the Škoda Trees grant programme again this year. This provides for the planting of 71,152 trees, equivalent to the number of cars sold in the Czech Republic in 2022. The grant is intended for towns, municipalities and associations to plant trees and greenery that contribute to water retention in the landscape, fulfil anti-erosion functions and increase biodiversity. Grants are used to purchase seedlings or materials, cover the costs of aftercare, build biodiversity features and provide expertise or supervision during planting.
The Škoda Trees grant programme, which will open on 7 March, is administratively handled by the Partnership Foundation in the Grantys system. There you can find the terms and conditions of the programme and sign up for it.

Success in times of challenges
In mid-November, around 300 managers gathered at the Škoda Museum for a two-day meeting with the top management of the MMK. The opening session was addressed by Klaus Zellmer, Škoda Auto CEO, and Jaroslav Povšík, Chairman of the KOVO Trade Union. The theme of transformation guided the entire event, which included seminars, discussions and updates from various areas of the carmaker.
Compact but still spacious
The Kylaq, Škoda’s latest and smallest model, was unveiled in November. Measuring less than 4 metres in length, it targets the popular Indian market segment, with prices starting from CZK 220,000. The Kylaq introduces the new Modern Solid design language to India, along with the largest boot in its class and a wide range of equipment focused on safety, including six airbags.
IVET 2024 Innovation Fair
The 8th edition of IVET showcased 36 innovation themes, underscoring Škoda Auto’s commitment to practical advancements. New was a section dedicated to the Indian market and contributions from Group colleagues. The event also featured the presentation of the Elroq. From Simply Clever solutions to technical breakthroughs, the fair continued the tradition of innovations designed with customers in mind.
Chronicle of 2024
In 2024, Škoda Auto continued to launch new models while modernising its bestsellers. The carmaker also adopted a new design language, opened the Laurin & Klement Kampus, supported numerous charitable and sustainable projects, achieved many successes and celebrated several important anniversaries. Discover the highlights from the past year in this year’s Chronicle.
Kronika roku 2024
V roce 2024 Škoda Auto pokračovala v uvádění nových modelů a také v modernizaci bestsellerů. Automobilka navíc přešla na nový designový jazyk Modern Solid, otevřela Laurin & Klement Kampus, podpořila nespočet dobročinných i udržitelných projektů, dosáhla mnoha úspěchů a oslavila několik významných výročí. To nejdůležitější z právě končícího roku se dočtete v letošní kronice.
Launching a new era in India
Four metres is a critical threshold in the Indian automobile market and its segment with this maximum length accounts for nearly 30%. Škoda Auto is entering this segment with the new compact SUV, the Kylaq, which is developed and manufactured in India specifically to cater to the preferences of local customers. This launch follows the earlier introductions of the Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan.
Conquering the French market
More than half a million visitors flocked to the Paris Motor Show in October, where global carmakers were in attendance. The Škoda Auto stand featured the new electric Elroq, which garnered much attention. Other cars from Škoda’s portfolio were also on display, including a specially modified fourth-generation Superb for the Tour de France race director and the Fabia RS Rally2 competition special.
Reducing software complexity
The second of the Brand Group Core’s six strategic packages is titled Reducing Complexity and focuses primarily on software. The increasing number of drives and assistance systems and the integration of other vehicle functions have led to a complex array of software variants. The aim of reducing the number of software variants is to decrease costs and enhance cybersecurity.
A look inside the battery
The new tomography centre in Hall M6 allows for non-destructive testing of the quality of MEB’s electric platform batteries. Škoda Auto inaugurated this state-of-the-art facility in June this year, and there may not be another facility like it in any other carmaker. Historically, the industry has employed computed tomography technology, or CT scanning, mainly for smaller parts.
Pohled do útrob baterie
