WHAT'S HAPPENING at ŠKODA AUTO
Strategic Decisions
The annual press conference was held online at the end of March. In addition to evaluating the 2020 economic results, which were profitable for the carmaker despite the pandemic, it featured a summary of the strategic decisions made last year. They included taking over the Group’s responsibility for the regions of Russia and North Africa, developing the SUPERB model together with the VW Passat in Mladá Boleslav and its production in Bratislava and freeing up capacity to increase production of SUVs and the successor to the FABIA COMBI model. At the same time, the carmaker’s management confirmed that the KODIAQ would continue to be produced there. They also mentioned the new NEXT LEVEL ŠKODA Programme, which you could read about in our interview with the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Thomas Schäfer, in the January 2021 issue of ŠKODA Mobil.
Billion Czech crowns will be invested by ŠKODA AUTO in new technologies by 2025, especially in the expansion of eMobility and digitisation, including the modernisation of its plants.
You can watch the entire press conference on ŠKODA Space.
NEXT-LEVEL EFFICIENCY
ŠKODA AUTO is coming up with a programme that will increase its competitiveness and efficiency in the coming years. It includes significant investments in new technologies, especially electromobility. To secure enough funds for this development, the carmaker will review its expenses, cut red tape, simplify processes and eliminate unnecessary ones. This year, it also plans to reduce its administrative staff by 2 percent, which will allow it to develop a demographic curve and natural staff turnover.
Social infrastructure development
In 2021, the carmaker is spending EUR 500,000 (approximately CZK 13 million) on social infrastructure projects for its employees. This is the result of an agreement between the ŠKODA AUTO management and the KOVO Trade Union. They will plan all the events together.
More information on both pieces of news can be found in the letters to employees, which you can read on ŠKODA Space.
Sales keep growing
In the first three months of 2021, ŠKODA AUTO delivered 16,700 more cars to its customers than in the same period last year. It recorded growth in the markets of Western and Eastern Europe and continued the positive trend in the Russian market, where it increased its deliveries by 8.6 percent. It is also doing very well in Turkey, where it recorded an increase of 162.1 percent with 9,800 cars delivered. However, the situation on the global market continues to be complicated by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and semiconductor shortages.

How They See Us
ENYAQ iV 80 150 kW
Half a year after the introduction of the ŠKODA brand’s first electric model, Czech and foreign journalists had a chance to get behind the wheel for the first time. What were their impressions of their test drives?
The car’s consumption pleasantly surprised in the streets of Prague. Its appetite in the increased recuperation mode was around 16 kWh, which is not bad at all for an electric car of this size.
Auto.cz (30 March 2021)
The ENYAQ iV is a close relative of the VW ID.4 model, which uses the same MEB platform. In our opinion, however, the Czech car boasts a more successful design.
Autobild.de (8 April 2021)
The wait for the ENYAQ iV has paid off. This electric car could already be used by its owner as a regular car and not just as an ecological or status accessory.
e-flotila.cz (31 March 2021)
Tuned automatic recuperation system
Very confident drive thanks to the lower centre of gravity
Automatic start when taking a seat
Even with an electric car, the brand has kept the large boot
Giant infotainment screen and sophisticated head‑up display
Excellent manoeuvrability
Rear-wheel drive with no negative impacts on driving
Because of its greater weight, the car’s acceleration is slower at speeds above 90 km/h
The digital instrument panel is relatively small
The infotainment system lags a bit behind today’s standards
News from the Group
ŠKODA AUTO participates in #Project1Hour
On Earth Day, which falls on April 22 every year, the carmaker participated in the Group’s initiative focused on individual responsibility for climate protection. Under the “My step to zero” motto, it invited its employees to reflect on their own contribution to improving the ecological footprint and share how they protect the environment during an hour-long team workshop. The carmaker will analyse the ideas and climate measures that they propose and then publish selected ones to inspire others.
A compact sports crossover is coming
The new Volkswagen Taigo model will premiere this summer. It will be a sports crossover that combines elevated crew seats like in an SUV and coupe-style body. It is based on the successful Nivus model for the Brazilian market and will be manufactured in Pamplona, Spain. It will hit the market at the end of the year.
Ice hockey
The World Championship is coming back
Last year, the coronavirus pandemic deprived ice hockey fans of their World Championship, and this year, the event will be held in compliance with numerous hygienic measures and restrictions. The World Ice Hockey Championship will take place in its entirety in Riga, Latvia, and everything will start on 21 May with a Czech match against the Russian ice hockey players. The finals are scheduled for 6 June. The partner of the championship is traditionally ŠKODA AUTO.
Achievements and trophies
The absolute top in safety
The ENYAQ iV model received the maximum five-star rating in the Euro NCAP consumer safety test. The evaluation criteria are tightened at two-year intervals and, in addition to active and passive safety scenarios, they now also include elements of tertiary (post-crash) safety. The new model received an overall rating of 86 percent, making it one of the safest cars in Europe. In the key category of adult occupant protection, the ŠKODA electric SUV achieved the best rating among all the cars tested so far in the 2020–2022 period: 94 percent.
Tribute to the ENYAQ iV model design
The first ŠKODA electric SUV impressed with its look. At its premiere during the Red Dot Awards, it received an award for outstanding design and can boast the prestigious red seal of quality. An international jury of about 50 independent designers, journalists and educators was especially impressed by the car’s emotional and distinctive design. The judges paid special attention to criteria such as the degree of innovation, formal quality, functionality, durability and environmental sustainability.
FABIA Rally2 racing rally specials have already been delivered by ŠKODA Motorsport to its customer teams. The first ones headed out in 2015; since then, the model has undergone several upgrades.

Colourful Virtual Show
The new FABIA had its premiere at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art
n 4 May 2021 at the DOX gallery in Prague, ŠKODA AUTO presented the fourth generation of its very popular car, which during 22 years of existence has ranked as the brand’s second-bestselling model. Because of hygienic measures related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the world premiere took place without guests. However, the brand’s fans were not short-changed, as they could follow the car’s ceremonial unveiling online. Thanks to the digital format, they were able to walk around the virtual pavilion as if it was the real gallery. They could examine the car using the 360° view, get acquainted with the details of the FABIA model’s success story and meet virtual avatars of the participating members of the ŠKODA AUTO Board of Directors.
FABIA addresses a very wide range of customers, from rooky drivers to the elderly, singles and families. In addition to the traditional features, the new fourth generation also offers an emotional look and even more space. We will be able to further expand our target group.

More modern, economical and safe
Like the SCALA, the car uses the VW Group’s MQB-A0 modular platform and offers an economical and efficient drive, greater comfort and a lot of new assistance systems still common only in higher-class cars. At the same time, it boasts the traditional advantages of ŠKODA models, including excellent value for money, high functionality and several Simply Clever solutions. “The FABIA has been an integral part of our portfolio for more than 20 years. The fourth generation has all the prerequisites to continue the previous models’ success. It offers more space than competing cars, great connectivity options, new assistance systems and an emotional look. In short, everything a driver needs – and more”, was how Thomas Schäfer, Chairman of the Board, summarised the car’s advantages.
Bigger on the outside, more spacious on the inside
Compared with its predecessor, the new FABIA has grown in all directions and has a more spacious interior. However, the new proportions certainly do not detract from its beauty. It has a more dynamic look and further develops the brand’s design language. It gives a sportier, more mature impression and corresponds to the current lifestyle of our customers. 3D Printing
More flexible thanks to 3D farms
Digitisation and Industry 4.0 use plastic printing more and more in Production and Logistics
lastic 3D printing or additive production (method of material processing by gradually adding layers – ed.) significantly increases the speed of the carmaker’s response to issues that may occur during production. It facilitates the production of prototypes, customised piece components and small series production. At the same time, it allows keeping a smaller number of spare parts, which significantly reduces costs. It significantly supports innovation and improvement projects as well.
55
3D plastic printers, mostly from the Czech Republic–based Prusa Research Company, were used by Production and Logistics.
3D Printing Applications
In the area of Production and Logistics, most of the 3D farms (i.e. workplaces with plastic 3D printers) operate in the PF – Car Production department. Last year, for example, after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, it became strongly involved in the printing of protective shields for hospitals in the regions where the Czech plants are located (read more in the April 2020 issue of ŠKODA Mobil). With 10 3D plastic printers, the biggest 3D farm is located at the MB II Body Shop.
The average filament (i.e. printing material – ed.) consumption rate of such a big farm is approximately 15 to 20 kg per month. When printing protective shields for hospitals last spring, up to 30 kg of material was consumed during the same period. Polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PET-G) is most often used for printing. It has excellent mechanical properties, trouble-free printing, chemical resistance, dimensional stability, non-flammability and recyclability. It offers a wide range of colours and, for example in the MB II Body Shop, it replaces some metal parts.
Additive production gradually penetrates all the production departments. Last autumn, the PPD – Digitalization and Industry 4.0 department helped to identify plastic 3D printing opportunities in internal logistics. After touring selected plants in Mladá Boleslav and Kvasiny, it recommended suitable printers on which a wide range of auxiliary products and tools would be created. Plastic 3D printing already has a rock-solid place in the PAP – Central Pilot Hall and PSZ – Central Technical Service Facility. The leader in the field of metallic 3D printing is the PSW-F – Casting Tool Production department. This method is more expensive and is, therefore, used more in the production of prototypes and parts with complicated shapes.
In September 2020, the PPD department unified the cooperation of all production departments into the Plastic 3D Printing working group. Its goal is to support the use of this method in the automotive industry and create a process and a unified database of auxiliary products and tools. At the same time, together with the ŠKODA Academy, it supports employee training and organises workshops with industrial solution suppliers. Jana Polášek Filová
Quick assistance in a crisis
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly tested the 3D farms’ ability to respond to sudden issues. Last spring, the technology of plastic printing in Production and Logistics was used to produce protective shields and respirators. This year, it proved to be perfect for securing missing auxiliary products that could not be delivered on time by an external company. In this case, it was gearbox covers for the assembly line in Kvasiny; without them, production would have been jeopardised. Almost all the members of the Plastic 3D Printing group and their colleagues from the EPG – Gearbox Development department took part in the activities coordinated by the MBII Welding Shop and the PPD – Digitalization and Industry 4.0 department. Thanks to their outstanding commitment and cooperation, the crisis was successfully mitigated. In addition, after their use in assembly, the covers will be used to produce a new recycled filament.
Learn how to work with 3D printing
Although the description of the 3D printing process might make it sound like rocket science, you will easily understand everything thanks to the new ŠKODA Academy courses. On the menu, you will find several courses divided into three levels. The first Basic course provides general information about 3D printing technology. The Advanced courses are designed for those who need to gain practical skills to operate their 3D plastic printer. Other professional courses focus on designing 3D models in CATIA and Creo software. The training series concludes with its special module for experts focused on 3D model scanning. The impetus for the creation of these courses came last autumn from Production and Logistics, when Jana Polášek Filová and her colleagues from PPD – Digitalization and Industry 4.0 asked the key 3D printing users from all Production departments about their experiences with this technology. “The representatives of the individual departments described their current knowledge and skills in the field of additive production, and they simultaneously defined their specific requirements for further education”, clarifies Polášek Filová. The training series was then prepared by a team led by professional training coordinator Vladimír Špicar from the SEB/5 – Electrical and IT department in cooperation with SEA/1 – New Media/Language Training. Their goal is to connect theory with practice as effectively as possible, increase technical knowledge and deepen the competencies of the employees (so-called upskilling), offer them the possibility of internal retraining (so-called reskilling) and simultaneously support the improvement of our production processes and innovations. Spare Parts Fast and Easy
When repairing machines, the central technical service uses 3D printers to combine several materials for one print job
he multi-material 3D printing method makes it relatively fast and easy to produce a spare part that would otherwise no longer be available. Doing so extends the life of the machines and reduces repair time and the overall cost of repairs. The actual printing of a given spare part is preceded by a series of steps during which the designers re-create the spare part from scratch. “We moved from the rapid prototype production to so-called reverse engineering, that is, the production of full-value spare parts for machines and equipment”, says Patrik Pánek from PSZ/3 – Internal Repair. This procedure also has the advantage that the new part usually surpasses the original in terms of quality. ED

Quick and accurate measuring
An important part of production control involves innovations
easuring is critical for the carmaker because it enables the timely detection of any potential non-conforming parts being produced as a result of tool wear. The measuring centre recently started using a faster and generally more efficient method of measuring bodies and individual parts. In the past, they would use the so-called contact method based on very accurate equipment with a tip (a small ball, actually). However, this procedure was time-consuming and took several hours. The new optical measuring method uses a laser beam and is performed by a robot from beginning to end. The method is more than 10 times quicker; therefore, a car can be completely measured in as little as 20 minutes. Its implementation was needed mostly because of the more complex production in Mladá Boleslav, where the ENYAQ iV model has been added to the line. For inspection, car bodies are randomly selected every day, various production kits are selected once a week, and with the growing number of models, the measuring frequency increases as well.
The goal of the new Messstrategie 2025 is to transition from contact measuring to the most modern optical technology.
This and other aspects were considered by the carmaker in its new Messstrategie 2025 (Measurement strategy), which applies to all of ŠKODA AUTO’s production plants. As part of this strategy, six state-of-the-art measuring systems are already in operation at two measuring centres in Mladá Boleslav, and the other three systems are used for production. One of them operates at the measuring centre in Kvasiny, and one is being completed in Pune, India. “The strategy for 2030 is already being worked on and has my full support”, says Florian Weymar, Head of GQ – Quality Management. This strategy aims for the wider integration of more accurate measuring, as well the application of virtual reality and artificial intelligence. ED
You can read more about our measuring innovations in the series of articles that will be published on ŠKODA Space.
More effective gearbox production
The new ROLLEX rolling machine by Profiroll increases production precision
he equipment used in the production of the MQ200 gearboxes also brings greater flexibility, and the rolling tool has a longer service life. The Profiroll Rollex L HP machine was taken over in the production of the MQ200 gearboxes already on 22 December last year.
The new equipment is used for the basic cold forming operations in the production of the MQ200 gearbox parts for the five- and six-speed variants: It rolls the shaft and pinion splines. “High precision plays a key role in grooving during the subsequent assembly. And in this respect, the new machine is more consistent than the old solution. This makes the entire gearbox production process more efficient”, explains Zdeněk Patočka from PKH/1 – Shaft Production MQ100/200. The reason behind the improvement is actually a new rolling method: Instead of straight racks, grooving is now rolled by means of special dies.
Jan Jaroš, production specialist from the PKT/3 – Component Production Technology department, gives another reason for improving production precision: “The new machine differs in its drive concept. It is mounted on its carriage and firmly connected to the spindles. This ensures their high rigidity and positive impact on precision.” The machine is also quicker, although the individual splines are formed separately and not all at once, which was the case with the original technology.
Lubricant savings
The machine is more economical as well: It dispenses lubricating oil using the MQL (minimum quantity lubrication) method, which is more precise and requires less oil than the original technology. “Our tools can also be reground up to eight times and, thus, have up to twice the service life of competing solutions”, says Libor Svoboda of PPK-G – Transmission Production Planning.
This new machine also allows for greater flexibility. It features several control options, makes it much easier to adjust, for example, to produce other components and is better for optimising individual grooving parameters. Our year and a half of work – from the supplier selection through machine assembly and up to the subsequent commissioning and acceptance – has clearly paid off. ED

Raw Materials in Circulation
ŠKODA AUTO strengthens the circular economy and constantly looks for ways to keep valuable materials in its production cycle
he circular economy (see the February 2020 issue of ŠKODA Mobil for more details) follows four key principles at ŠKODA AUTO: minimise negative impacts on the environment, the input sources and their losses and, conversely, maximise the circulation of sources. An interdisciplinary team coordinated by PSU – Environmental and Work Protection is looking for new opportunities to implement these principles. “We implement measures that make sense both in terms of environmental protection and the effective use of resources and in terms of finances”, says Lenka Bočková, who heads the department.
Since 2020, all the originally landfilled waste generated from production at the Czech plants has been used for new materials or energy purposes.
ŠKODA AUTO does not deal with the circular economy alone. It also looks outside the plants to involve its entire supply chain in the discussions, including recyclers, representatives from academia and other partners. That is why it started a series of meetings always focused on a specific type of material. So far, two of them have taken place and dealt with specific materials: glass and rubber. Both meetings resulted in a few pilot projects – for example, training the dealer network in the circular handling of obsolete car windows and how they can be re-used in the glass industry or increasing the share of its primary production and stressed glass cullet in the production of the new car windows.
Another example of a circular project is the cooperation between Technical Development and the Praktik recycling company or with granulate manufacturers in the development of materials of used painted bumpers or the search for ideas about re-using engine oil or brake fluid. “Currently, we’re also dealing with chemical recycling, which can use a thermal process to create virgin quality material from old plastic”, says Lukáš Zuzánek from the EKX/2 – Corrosion, Weather Resistance, Development of Materials. There are several specific examples of using the circular economy principles in the car industry, from increasing the share of recycled materials through the re-use of packaging in logistics to innovative technical solutions in production. ED
Increased service life
The circular economy has found an application in the maintenance of hydraulic machines, whose lubricants the carmaker continuously monitors, inspects and filters. The oils themselves are analysed by the PSZ – Central Technical Service staff at the FabLab innovation laboratory (see the April 2021 issue of ŠKODA Mobil). These activities extend the lubricant’s service life and reduce the frequency of machine failures as well. For example, last year alone, they filtered over 1,000 hectolitres of oil and saved about CZK 5 million on its acquisition. Another saving comes from the more reliable operation, which includes reduced spare part consumption and less frequent outages.
More recyclates
The carmaker uses several plastic parts for its cars from recycled waste, which comes from car parts at the end of their service life or from non-conforming parts of their dashboards, bumpers and so forth, which are generated during production. It is either a 100 percent recyclate or a part made with its share of so-called virgin material (new, yet unused material – ed.). Chassis outer covers, wheel arch covers, engine covers or covers for the water duct under the windscreen are produced for some ŠKODA models in this way (see the photo). For example, it is made from recycled material from used car battery covers. Another example is the interior floor and boot carpets or inlaid rugs, which are largely made from recycled PET bottles. Technical Development employees also examine the use of fibres obtained from unused parts of coconut, flax, beet or ground coffee as plastic fillers. All this is done to protect our natural resources and use waste material.
Dual use
Ground limestone, which absorbs residual paint particles through dry separation, has found a great use at the M18 Paint Shop (see the August 2019 issue of ŠKODA Mobil). “This method uses no water. Air saturated with ground limestone circulates in the system, which captures paint and varnish parts. At the same time, we supply only 20 percent of the fresh air, which in turn saves us 80 percent of the energy needed to clean and prepare the air for the Paint Shop’s operations”, explains Veronika Nýdrová from PPF-L/1 – Paint Shop Process Planning. This raw material, which has already been used once and consists of colour-saturated limestone, is also applied in the process of dry flue gas desulphurisation in the ŠKO-ENERGO heating plant.

Webinars on sustainability
ŠKODA’s authorised network employees are trained online
ast year, due to the anti-epidemic measures, it was not possible to organise the traditional, in-person environmental training of our dealers. It has taken place several times a year since 2012 and was attended by more than 200 experts from the sales and service network in the Czech Republic. “Because the overall situation hadn’t improved, we decided to create our new online education system with 90-minute webinars. This timeframe allowed us to effectively pass on information and expertise related to the topic; in addition, we had space for practical examples with a minimal risk of losing the participants’ attention”, says František Pelech from VAD – Business Development After Sales. Thanks to the maximum number of 10 participants at every session, personal interaction with the lecturer and space for discussion among those present were preserved. The course participants did not have to travel to our training centre, which saved us time and money.
Our webinars for the dealer network have eliminated the need to travel to our training centres and reduced our environmental footprint associated with training.
Pilot online training
“We completed our pilot GreenRetail webinar on energy management in early autumn and launched our first training sessions in November”, continues Pelech. Our training primarily focuses on working with available data on energy consumption, its evaluation and subsequent identification of the difference between energy demand and consumption. So far, a total of three courses have taken place. The VAD team is currently completing its follow-up second webinar, in which it will focus on energy consumption from the point of view of setting up technologies in the dealerships that are used every day. The summary of every chapter will then provide recommendations for effective and low-cost operation optimisation. Our goal is to offer a total of five online training sessions to our authorised sales and service network by the end of this year. Our training sessions will fully cover the areas of effective energy and water management and responsible waste and chemical management. All the webinars are held in several world languages, so that the carmaker can provide its training abroad as well. ED
GreenRetail Training
Our webinars complement the existing GreenRetail e-Learning. It aims to acquaint the employees of ŠKODA’s sales and service partners with the basic requirements and standards in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development. ŠKODA AUTO was recently entrusted with managing the Group’s working group, which will, as part of Sustainability@Retail, help to harmonise the educational activities of the Group’s individual brands for the sustainable development of the authorised sales and service network.
Calculator monitoring emissions in logistics
An online tool helps the brand’s logistics track its environmental impact
t is called KALOGEMIS (CAlculator of LOgistics EMissions), and it is a simple online tool in which the type of vehicle, transported material and transport distance are entered. Based on this data, the user obtains instantaneous CO2 emission values concerning their specific trip. ŠKODA is the only brand in the VW Group to have developed its own CO2 calculator for its needs. “The carmaker thinks about all its processes in a way that is sustainable and considers its carbon footprint. Its logistics is no exception. Thanks to our calculator, we can better balance our emissions, take into account their impact on the environment when planning our processes and compare various transport concepts”, says David Strnad, Head of PL – Brand Logistics.
3,800

Logins to KALOGEMIS every year
The application is the joint work of development between the carmaker and the Jan Perner Transport Faculty at the University of Pardubice. The project works have been ongoing since 2017, and the tool is constantly evolving and tailored to the PL department’s needs. KALOGEMIS is also used in areas where ŠKODA AUTO operates abroad. In India, for example, it has been in full operation since January. In the future, our colleagues in Russia and China should see their calculators as well.
KALOGEMIS is one of numerous projects through which Brand Logistics works to execute the Green Future strategy. Among other things, through its Logistics Academy, it organises a few seminars and training sessions with experts in the area of emission reductions. ED

Product training of ENYAQ iV took place via online broadcasting and with the help of hundreds of test cars
ow does one prepare thousands of sales and service network employees across Europe for the launch of a new key ŠKODA model at a time of such limited travel? This was the big challenge for the VB – Business Development and VA – After Sales departments in advance of the ENYAQ iV’s launch. The product training sessions took place from the beginning of March, and their implementation in the dealer and service networks differed in multiple respects. However, their common denominator was their great emphasis on hygienic measures and the fact that the restriction of the otherwise welcome personal contact was partially compensated for by a greater flexibility in training time.

Digital studio
A studio to train the distribution network staff was set up near Prague Airport. In addition to the first fully electric ŠKODA SUV, it also featured an interactive stand used in showrooms, accessories including a charging infrastructure and, for comparison, the model’s direct competitors. The coaches for the individual importers headed to Prague, where they trained their dealers online in their native language. The participants participated in their training via pre-recorded videos and a digital stream but could return to any part at any time. And there was room for real-time queries through the Slido platform. “The whole system had a modular character, so the coaches could adapt their training to the needs of their individual markets. However, they had to adhere to the standard prescribed by us”, emphasises Matěj Poláček from the VBM – International Business Management department. The training focused, for example, on the new choice of drive version and trim level, heat pump, driving assistants, Simply Clever solutions, ŠKODA Connect application and POWERPASS charging cards. “For example, the participants were very interested in the moment when a virtual ENYAQ iV entered the studio and the coaches lifted its body to show the batteries”, explains Thomas Stockinger, who coached the Austrian importer. In addition to digital training, the dealers got acquainted with the ENYAQ iV model first-hand in their countries. An extreme number of cars was provided for this, and a handbook for test drives was also created.
Virtual reality also helps
The newly built ŠKODA iV Studio in the Service Training Centre was used for the service network training. Its state-of-the-art transmission technology enabled, for example, the use of 3D animations and, for the first time ever, virtual reality, which allowed the participants to see even the smallest components inside the car. During its eight separate modules, the training focused on the individual technical topics (high-voltage system, electronics, heat pump etc.). Thanks to this, the coaches could choose their service training schedule according to their needs. ED

Car weight under supervision
Since last January, the unique MassCheck system developed by ŠKODA AUTO has been monitoring any weight deviations of produced cars
he carmaker has started weighing its produced cars because of the significantly stricter legislation related to the reduction of CO2 emissions. According to this legislation, the actual car weight must not differ more than 5 percent from the weight value stated in its technical certificate. In practice, this means that for a car with a registered weight of 1.5 tonnes, a maximum difference of about 75 kilogrammes is tolerated. Deviations are caused, for example, by production tolerances influenced by process materials and the number of coatings but also by the weighing equipment precision and, last but not least, by the theoretical calculation accuracy. Therefore, the ESD – Technical Information department, in cooperation with the GQ – Quality Management and PF – Car Production departments and the SVP team (ŠKODA Verbesserungsprozess) developed its MassCheck system, which monitors and analyses weight deviations at the end of the assembly lines. It has been in operation since last January, and this is a unique solution inside the VW Group. “It offers detailed information on every car weighed. In addition to its configuration, it obviously monitors the magnitude of its weight deviation, place, date and time of weighing but also the parameters of its ‘twins’, which are cars of the same configuration produced in the same period. In case of any significant deviations, this system can be used to determine the probable reason for their occurrence”, specifies Peter Brůžek, Head of the ESD department. Thus, it is possible to detect, for example, a weighing sensor fault, theoretical calculation error or even that someone was sitting in it during weighing, including the specification of where they sat and what their weight was. MassCheck can also calculate the car’s centre of gravity and analyse the accuracy of the weighing device. If the deviation of a specific car exceeds the permitted 5 percent, the responsible member of staff will receive an e-mail notification. “However, to solve any issues directly at the workplace, traffic lights were added to the weighing equipment, which immediately announce that the permitted deviation was exceeded”, adds Brůžek. People are the alpha and the omega
Leaders and their teams form ŠKODA AUTO’s corporate culture even in difficult times
ur corporate culture is undergoing a stress test, the private and professional lives of our employees have been turned upside down, and accumulated stress can sometimes come to the fore during teamwork. Therefore, the department heads focus even more on supporting the colleagues in their teams who are facing difficult conditions to manage everything better together. To do this, they use methods from the Role Model Programme (RMP). Since 2019, it has supported greater openness among employees, led to the elimination of differences in the company hierarchy and improved mutual trust and cooperation (see the Top 10 activities column). In addition, the past year has shown that most RMP activities can be implemented online.
Targeting employees
Last year, the leaders placed more emphasis on the human side of cooperation and networking with colleagues. Meetings as part of the Open Doors and the Book the Boss events have been added. More often than not, you may have come across the tried-and-tested On a Good Wave Meeting approach, which promotes a good atmosphere by having a joint team meeting start with someone sharing what is going well. An interesting approach was the so-called Crashtest. Its benefit came from the team looking at the problem from a different perspective, outside of the well-established tracks, which better reveals blind spots. The team chooses the approach of what is the worst that can happen to us and put us under the greatest pressure. It then tries to prevent these situations. Jan Umlauf from PF1 – Car Production MBI, Lubor Pokorný from GMP-2 – Change Management and Christian Bleiel from PK – Component Production have already successfully tested this method with their teams. Each of them embraced it a little differently, but it benefitted all of them. “Using the Crashtest method, we tested our most important project – the installation of MEB batteries. We deliberately ‘drove it to ground’ and gave the team a whole new experience. In addition, we’ve discovered our weaknesses, and now we know what we need to focus on”, says Bleiel about the Crashtest.
We stick together
The RMP also supports its own initiative, and the large number of “wild cards” from 2020 proves that leaders still have enough ideas. Across different areas, they agree that the most important thing today is to take interest in others, ask for their opinions and listen to them. Although everyone was sometimes restricted in communication because of a face mask or because colleagues had not seen each other for several months and had no idea what the situation was on the other side, many of them were able to manage many challenges.
Together for others
During the pandemic, many of these challenges were faced by teams that were helping on their own initiative, despite the difficult situation, even more so than in the past. For example, colleagues from several departments organised the production of protective masks for local hospitals. Elsewhere, they held a benefit concert or took part in an event to help disabled children or colleagues. In some teams, they decided to raise funds by selling their own products or volunteering for the very first time. All this was done to help the local hospitals, schools, orphanages, zoos and shelters. Alena Petráčková

Participate in the Integrity & Compliance Survey between 31 May and 13 June
Acting based on moral principles (integrity principles) and in accordance with applicable rules and regulations (compliance principles) is important not only for the current but also for the future success of ŠKODA AUTO. That is why these topics are firmly rooted in the company’s strategy, and the carmaker supports those employees who honour such actions. Everyone has done a great deal of work on this, for example, in the form of implementing measures from the Together4Integrity (T4I) programme, including the improvement of the individual processes and procedures. “To find out where we currently stand on these issues, how the carmaker’s employees perceive these topics and what we can improve, we’ve prepared a survey on integrity and compliance”, says Helena Machková, Head of GO – Governance, Risk & Compliance.
Survey information
Participation is voluntary for all employees. “Nevertheless, we would be happy if you participated in the survey and expressed your opinion based on your work experience”, adds Machková. Voting will be carried out online in the familiar environment of the Stimmungsbarometer application (however, this is not part of this survey, but a completely independent poll), either via work computers or from voting points located in all three ŠKODA AUTO plants. The vote will be completely anonymous. ED
Additional information on the survey and the voting method will be published in the June 2021 issue of ŠKODA Mobil and on ŠKODA Space. You can send any questions or comments to mail.

I view everyone as a partner
Interview with Michal Štětka, Integrity Ambassador from the PFS-L – Paint Shops Technical Service
What led you to become an integrity ambassador?
I was interested in looking at things from a different angle. Work is not the only thing that exposes a person to situations where they hesitate to act. Myself included. That is why I joined the group of ambassadors.
How do you see ambassadorship in your department?
The production units are generally under great pressure. Especially in Maintenance, where I work; unexpected events often occur. And it is in these cases that we have to react quickly, fix everything and proceed according to company rules. I see ambassadorship as an opportunity to create an open communication environment.
What would you like to achieve as an ambassador?
I want to lead by example, and I see everyone as a potential partner. I perceive their attitudes and arguments, and I base my decisions on them. My goal is to work in an environment where those in management support discussion and actively listen to arguments and expert opinions.
What benefits do you see in the fact that employees will follow the integrity principles in practice?
If everyone followed them, we would play a completely clean game, which I consider a utopia. However, the closer we get to that, the happier we will be at work. It’s important for the management to lead by example. Many leaders are already following these principles, and it is a pleasure to work with their teams because instead of looking for problems, they approach everything proactively and look for suitable solutions.
How do you understand integrity at ŠKODA AUTO?
As a change in the approach, the behaviour and the actions of employees at all levels towards a diverse modern company that will respect all opinions and follow a common agreement. In simple terms, it’s a return to one’s word of honour.
Integrity is often associated with a situation in which there is no one right solution, and it is necessary to follow one’s own values and conscience and often demonstrate personal courage. In your work, have you ever encountered a situation where you could not rely on fixed rules, and yet you knew you had to solve it?
My colleagues from Maintenance and I regularly face such situations. Reducing downtime, spare parts inventory, budgets, the number of maintenance workers for more complicated equipment and increasing complexity are all very conflicting requirements that we must balance with sensitivity. We often have to draw attention to them, and our arguments aren’t always heard, simply because we’re part of a larger whole. However, when making a decision, it’s important to have all the relevant arguments in front of you and give them space. ED

Are you interested in getting vaccinated?
Registration of those interested in getting the COVID-19 vaccine is already possible, so sign up as soon as you can
he carmaker, together with the KOVO Trade Union, will enable all its employees to receive voluntary vaccinations free of charge, which is why it launched the Vaccination Registration system in March. The number of registered employees is growing rapidly and has reached 13,500 people in just four weeks. The system is open to active internal employees, who will be prompted to apply for the selected vaccination date in the internal reservation system once the vaccine is in stock. If the employee changes their mind, they can cancel their registration and re-register at a later date if they wish to do so. The applicant registration serves the carmaker for better future vaccination planning, and registered employees will be vaccinated first. In this way, the carmaker wants to prevent the sharp increase in interest that is expected when the vaccines are delivered. ED
You can also register for a vaccination during the regular testing at ŠKODA AUTO or during the FABIA car roadshow.

Vaccination at a glance
Vaccination is currently the only solution that significantly reduces the risk of a COVID-19 infection or its more severe effects. If 70 percent of the population and, therefore, also ŠKODA AUTO employees, can be vaccinated, the spread of the virus within the company will slow down or end, and the whole situation will recover from the crisis situations of recent months. Vaccinated people are also expected to receive other benefits, such as a drop in their obligation to test themselves before participating in sporting or cultural events or business and private trips abroad. These conditions will be further specified and likely expanded.
What, when and where
ŠKODA AUTO will only use vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Vaccination dates will depend on vaccine availability. Once the state releases vaccines for employers, ŠKODA AUTO will immediately start vaccinating.
Who is it for?
At this time, only for active internal employees – in other words, not pensioners, employees on maternity and parental leave or employees of subsidiaries.
State vaccination system
Despite the existence of the internal registration system, ŠKODA AUTO recommends that all its employees also register with the state vaccination system when it is open to them. The ŠKODA AUTO registration system does not replace that registration.

separate Avinash’s workplace in Pune from Mladá Boleslav, where he completed his one-year internship
Even the pandemic offered a valuable experience
previously worked at the ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) plant in Pune as the Paint Shop manager. As part of my preparation for joining the management of the Body Shop, I received an offer for a one-year deputation at the parent company. As a project manager on the new generation of the FABIA model at the MB II Body Shop, I have broadened my horizons and deepened my body design knowledge. I have gained the know-how that I could apply to the new KUSHAQ car and three other models that we will launch in 2021. Although my stay in Mladá Boleslav was affected by the pandemic, which meant the plant was completely closed for several weeks, it was still a great experience to learn how systematically operations were closed and restarted without any hiccups. My colleagues received me very well from day one and helped me in my work and beyond. I think that we handled the situation caused by the pandemic very effectively, and as a result, I gained a lot of new, unexpected experiences.
The pandemic disrupted our plans to visit other European
countries. However, we were able to get to know your country
more, which impressed us so much that my wife and I are now
brand ambassadors for the Czech Republic in India.
Road experiences: ENYAQ iV and snow
One of the highlights of my stay in Mladá Boleslav was my ride in the new electric SUV, which was lent to me by Marek Jancák, Head of PF – Car Production. Otherwise, driving in Europe is always a pleasure for any Indian. No traffic, no honking. It’s just a problem when it starts to snow. When you’re not used to it, you can skid. It happened to me, as well!
Learning the history
My wife and I were lucky to be in the Czech Republic at the time when the carmaker was commemorating 125 On the very first day, I was introduced to the long history of ŠKODA AUTO, and I was surprised that its journey to making top electric cars actually began with the production of bicycles at the same factory.
To the skies
My wife, Arati, and I enjoyed our visit to the Mladá Boleslav Flying Club, where we saw its antique planes taking off one after another. It was an incredible view that one just can’t get in India. Luboš Hradecký, a colleague of mine, and I then flew in his plane, which I will never forget.
Multicultural breakfast
I got along very well with my colleagues in Mladá Boleslav. For example, I once organised a traditional Indian breakfast (poha rice and laddu dessert), where we discussed the cultural specifics of India and the Czech Republic. In return, some of my colleagues brought home-made jams for me and my wife.
A paradise for cyclists
I’m a passionate cyclist, and I was thrilled by the local conditions. Around Mladá Boleslav and throughout the Czech Republic, people have plenty of opportunities for safe rides in the beautiful countryside. I bought my ŠKODA mountain bike and set off on cycling routes in the area. One of my colleagues, Radek Dubský, was often my guide.

From Locals for Locals
KUSHAQ, the first car produced on the new MQB-A0-IN platform, enters the Indian market
n adventurous look, an emphasis on practicality and great value, and completely local production with as many parts as possible from local suppliers: These are the basic features of the new KUSHAQ compact SUV intended for India and other emerging markets. Its production marks a new chapter for the VW Group in India. This is the first practical result of the INDIA 2.0 project, as part of which the Czech carmaker took over all the VW Group’s activities in India under the auspices of ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL).
The compact SUV is built on the VISION IN study, which has received very positive reaction. No wonder the KUSHAQ enjoys a lot of attention here. “More than 3.5 million viewers watched the online premiere on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. The car launch campaign had a 100% positive response, and news about the car appeared in more than 1,000 news outlets in 10 different local dialects”, says Sandeep Fernandes, Head of PR and Communications at ŠKODA AUTO India.
Place Even for a Talisman
The KUSHAQ is produced on the MQB-A0-IN platform, which was developed by ŠKODA AUTO and also serves Volkswagen models. As many as 95 percent of this car’s parts come from local suppliers, and its design was fine-tuned by the studio in the Pune plant where the car will also be manufactured. Thus, Indians can consider the brand’s latest SUV, which is perceived as an affordable luxury on the local market, as a fully domestic car with the guarantee of an established brand with a long history.
The KUSHAQ has adapted to the local market in many ways. For example, regarding the range of available colours, customers will also find distinctive shades of Tornado Red and Honey Orange to suit their taste. The compact dimensions give the car dexterity in the city, while the higher ground clearance provides security on local roads. The car also has powerful air conditioning and a small space in the upper part of the dashboard, which is an interesting feature: It serves as a place to safely store a talisman, which Indian drivers like to bring with them when they drive.
Top trim
KUSHAQ respects the core values of the ŠKODA brand and offers high quality to Indian customers at a given price. That is why the car has very modern trim elements, which even customers from the most demanding markets are used to. There are the Full LED headlights, stabilisation system, up to six airbags, cruise control, hill start assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a modern infotainment system with connectivity functions and connection to smartphones. Under the hood, it has modern TSI energy-saving engines: a three-cylinder 1.0 TSI or a four-cylinder 1.5 TSI, and a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission is an alternative to the six-speed manual transmission.
The KUSHAQ will become the basis for other models. After full production starts, it will not remain only on the Indian market. “It paves the way for other models that the carmaker will launch in the next 18 months and adapt to the needs and demand of exacting customers in India and other emerging markets around the world”, says Jan Řepa from ŠKODA AUTO India product marketing, suggesting the importance of the model.
KUSHAQ belongs to the family
The name of the compact SUV comes from India’s Sanskrit language. In this “language of the gods”, which is still in use today, the word refers to a king or ruler, which is a great match for the self-confident model. “The designation with K at the beginning and Q at the end also fits with the designations of the ŠKODA family SUVs. The KUSHAQ, along with the KODIAQ, KAROQ and KAMIQ, combines timeless brand design, unrivalled performance, top-quality workmanship and advanced safety features”, says Tarun Jha, Head of Marketing at ŠKODA AUTO India. The Digital Age Calls for Change
Since 1 April, ŠKODA IT has been operating with a new organisational structure
NEW ŠKODA IT departments
Shopfloor digitisation: Manages smart industrial solutions and connects information technology with production automation – for example, as part of predictive maintenance.
IT project management: The team provides project management, from the idea phase to the deployment of the software and its handover to the FIM department.
Software development: The core of the team’s work is software supply, but broadly speaking, it includes software design, programming and deployment.
Application management: Provides operation of information systems, services, modules, functions, applications, components and interfaces for databases and platforms.
he IT department is an important connecting link that supports the entire carmaker’s operationality. Its new structure better meets the current requirements for IT services and makes it a modern partner that actively contributes to the company’s operations and development and builds relationships with its customers.
When ŠKODA AUTO became part of the VW Group, few people could have imagined how central the IT solutions would be. Thirty years later, however, IT has become as important a pillar as production, technical development and design. The IT department of the Mladá Boleslav carmaker has undergone a significant transformation. It builds on the Accelerate IT strategy created in 2019 and aims to make ŠKODA AUTO a company with top IT competencies (see the November 2019 issue of ŠKODA Mobil). For example, its re-organisation enables it to carry out more projects on its own in a new form and to be proactive in the development of individual IT solutions. And there are many of them. The FI department ensures not only the operation of the carmaker in the form of its computers and software for everyday work but also the development of software solutions for its internal needs, as well as the development and management of services that its customers come into contact with – for example, the carmaker’s website, car configurator and the MyŠKODA mobile application. An extremely important part of IT activities is cybersecurity, which is intertwined with all the aforementioned activities.
The wide scope and creative environment create great conditions for employee development. “We wish to give them the opportunity to improve their skills and become one of the best IT employers in Central Europe”, says Klaus Blüm, Head of the FI – Information Technology department. The restructured IT department represents a professional team focusing on top cooperation with individual users. The goal is to achieve maximum effectiveness, which will lead to financial savings and a quicker deployment of digital products and software solutions. This will positively affect the work of most of the carmaker’s employees and, as a result, improve customer relations as well. ed
New IT Form
On 1 April 2021, the FIB, FIE, FIA and FIV departments ceased to exist, and the FIP, FIM, FID and FII departments were created. This structure enabled the creation of a consistent and standardised IT process consisting of logical steps: Technology Portfolio Management (FIT), Project Delivery Management (FIP), Software Development (FID) and Application Portfolio Management (FIM). The process is maximally supported by services from the other FI departments (FII, FIO, FIG, FIC and FIS), which are responsible for supporting IT services and infrastructure, IT organisation and security, or strengthening the SAP competencies for the VW Group.
You will find the detailed structure on ŠKODA Space.
We are an active partner
Interview with Klaus Blüm, Head of the FI – Information Technology department
KODA AUTO’s IT department is adapting to the rapid changes in the automotive industry as well. The new structure enables it to better respond to the requirements of all the parties and actively participate in the carmaker’s development.
The FI department has been re-organised since 1 April – what were the main reasons for this change?
We understand that IT plays an increasingly important and significant role in our company. In 2019, we developed our Accelerate IT strategy, which defines our four ambitious goals to improve IT and thereby accelerate the transition to a software carmaker. Our new organisation will allow us to be more agile, more flexible, more effective and, most importantly, quicker. We must form and define our new requirements together with our colleagues from the other professional departments, not just respond to them.
What specifically has the re-organisation changed?
We’ve moved from our service department role into an active position. We’ve transformed into an organisation that works together across the carmaker and creates great software solutions together with its partners. Not only thanks to this, ŠKODA IT is respected throughout the entire VW Group.
What do you expect from the new organisational structure? What are the main goals?
We should strive to make our IT at the carmaker operate as a competitive company. By working intensively with our specialist departments, we will be able to deliver quality software solutions at a speed that meets business requirements. This is the only way to become a respected professional partner.
What are the specific benefits of this change for your professional department partners, and how will it affect your regular employees?
Our individual departments may look forward not only to their more intensive cooperation and open communication with us but mainly to receiving support in the implementation of great ideas.
In the Accelerate IT strategy, you presented more than 50 projects last year. What are the next steps?
We will focus even more on process automation and simplification. And also on technologies to support the development of our new digital products and innovations. Another important step will be to update our Accelerate IT strategy in connection with the new NEXT LEVEL ŠKODA programme for the future of the carmaker. ED

News from the 365 ACADEMY
The 365 Office suite training is in full swing, and it’s not too late to get involved
he extensive 365 ACADEMY Programme was launched at the end of March. Its aim is to teach the carmaker’s employees how to use their new office suite as effectively as possible since it fundamentally changes their style of work in the digital environment (you can read more about Office 365 in the April 2020 issue of ŠKODA Mobil). In the first two weeks, almost 1,500 employees signed up for training, and the first two webinar topics – Modern Communications and Digital Effectiveness – attracted 1,900 participants. If you have not signed up yet, you do not have to worry about missing out on anything. The recorded webinars are available, and all the necessary information for entering the platform can be found on ŠKODA Space. The interest in improving online collaboration and increasing digital productivity was clearly expressed by the managers. Almost 600 managers and coordinators attended the bootcamps.
The Office 365 Ambassador Programme starts on 10 May. It will offer advanced webinars and development steps for digital enthusiasts who wish to help effectively implement the new suite in their departments. The community of advanced users is essential for successfully controlling the new applications across ŠKODA AUTO – every department needs its own Office 365 hero.
In the second half of May, it will be the turn of those employees who do not have their business computers and employees on maternity and parental leave, as well as other groups. The Digital Driver’s Licence Programme will focus on the general digital skills, tips and tricks that the participants will use in their everyday lives (we will present the Digital Driver’s Licence in more detail in the next issue of ŠKODA Mobil). I’m sure that every user will appreciate the 365 ACADEMY. The videos are short and don’t take up much time, and you can pick your speed of learning. It’s definitely worth taking the time; in the end, you and your work team will benefit from it.

PSW-F/21 – Technological Processes CAD/CAM
I would like to highlight the online courses available on the Digiskills.cz website. They are clear and effectively done. I was fascinated by their microlearning, where the individual topics are divided into a set of short videos, and I can return to the individual parts if needed. I’ve already experienced a similar way of training, and it suits me perfectly.

PSW-V – Jig and Gauge Construction
I think the possibilities of our technologies today are generally underused. And education can improve this thanks to easily accessible and comprehensible information.
You can find more information and access to the 365 ACADEMY Platform here.
Dealers and service app heading to the cloud
ŠKODA AUTO’s “IT Workshop” created a Web application that the dealers use to manage every car’s life cycle
he Dealer Management System (DMS) monitors a specific car from the time it starts production, through its subsequent delivery to the customer, its warranty and post-warranty service intervals, up to the sale of used or original spare parts. It is used by the vast majority of authorised dealers and service centres in the Czech Republic and Slovakia; however, the original solution dates back to 2002. Therefore, the carmaker’s IT specialists began developing a completely new version with their external partners, and the result is a modern Web application that can serve the Group’s other brands both in Europe and in the global markets. ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) decided to use it as its primary solution for managing the importer’s dealer network on the Indian market. One of the basic requirements for the new system was its centralisation and, thus, the possibility of administration from a single location. “We don’t want our dealers to have to switch among several systems when communicating with their customer but to have the ability to pay full attention to them. In other words, we want to have a single application available that will feature all the necessary tools in one place, while the necessary integrations into any other systems will be handled automatically”, explains Vladimír Pulchart from the FID/2 – Offshore Delivery Centre department. As of May, the authorised dealers have a new DMS version available on their local servers. Now, the next phase is coming: cloudification (i.e. moving to a central repository). The developers pay special attention to ensuring the security of stored customer data as well. ED
Did you know that…
... in addition to DMS, ŠKODA AUTO has also developed its other software tools to support the entire VW Group? They include, among others, the SAP Competence Centre and the PPSO (Package Price System Online), which provides information support to the dealers.

Dne 12. března 1991 navštívilo vedení koncernu VW mladoboleslavskou automobilku. A protože ještě nebylo zavedeno letecké spojení, přijeli vlastním mikrobusem.
Ministr průmyslu české vlády Jan Vrba a předseda představenstva koncernu VW Carl Horst Hahn podepisují 28. března 1991 smlouvu o vytvoření společného podniku (joint venture) na výrobu automobilů ŠKODA.
Prvním vozem představeným po spojení byla FELICIA, která se vyráběla v letech 1994–2001. V zásadě šlo o velkou modernizaci vozu FAVORIT.

So-called “material fatigue” is one of the typical causes of failure, and in this case, it occurred to the UBS robot head holder and caused it to break. “The spare part no longer exists, the manufacturer doesn’t supply it, or a machine may be so old that even its manufacturer no longer exists”, says Pánek, noting that there is usually no documentation for such a part available either. If there is, the next step is not necessary.
The second phase involves measuring the damaged part in full and creating accompanying documentation to use if the same part fails somewhere else in production. During digitisation, the designers are already thinking about what the new part will look like. It does not even need to have the same shape as the original. “We’re looking for a way to improve its longevity. In this particular case, we know that the aluminium part cracked, in what place, and why it happened, and we can solve everything by using modern materials,” Pánek explains.
After completing the documentation, the preparation of a new spare part begins. It is necessary to specify a number of parameters and create a model of the complete part. For example, by defining the material density in its individual places, it is possible to increase the strength where it is needed. The Markforged printer data utility program used in PSZ for this purpose will help with basic strength calculations.
The selection of a specific raw material composition from a range of durable composite material combinations forms an integral part of this process. The basic material is Onyx (or nylon), which can be reinforced with carbon, Kevlar, or glass fibres, even in their high-performance and high-temperature variants. Each of the elements gives the final part certain properties: strength, flexibility and so on. Different materials can be applied to different part areas during printing, which helps to gradually adapt the final product properties.
This is followed by printing the part, which takes hours – from one for very simple parts to dozens for complex ones. “During printing, we monitor the individual layers and try to find places where imperfections could occur. In contrast with the digital input, the result makes certain allowances. For example, the printer never produces as sharp an edge as we design, so it is necessary to check the part carefully after printing”, Pánek notes.
The finished part, which can be composed of several pieces, as in this case, goes back to the line. Before that, designers can try to fit the part directly at the printer. “A part printed in this way achieves the strength of an aluminium alloy, but it has lower weight, and its production is less expensive than with conventional methods, such as a completely machined part”, emphasises Pánek. In addition, with the same strength and because of the newly designed structure, the chances of repeated failure are much lower.

How to use 3D printing in logistics for various auxiliary elements is learned during innovative walks.
The printed elements are characterized by excellent mechanical properties, such as dimensional stability.
3D printing can be used for the production of a wide range of elements.
The maintenance of the Body Shop MB II in Mladá Boleslav uses the most plastic printing equipment.
The Body Plant in Kvasiny also has excellent provision of this technology.
Tools and jigs can be printed in a wide range of colors.
The production of various elements using 3D printers significantly increases the speed of the car manufacturer's reaction to possible problems in production practice.
This was proven in April this year, when it was necessary to quickly secure thousands of covers for gearboxes for the assembly line in Kvasiny, which could not be delivered in time by an external company.

Ročník 2022
Ročník 2023
Launching a new era in India
Four metres is a critical threshold in the Indian automobile market and its segment with this maximum length accounts for nearly 30%. Škoda Auto is entering this segment with the new compact SUV, the Kylaq, which is developed and manufactured in India specifically to cater to the preferences of local customers. This launch follows the earlier introductions of the Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan.
Conquering the French market
More than half a million visitors flocked to the Paris Motor Show in October, where global carmakers were in attendance. The Škoda Auto stand featured the new electric Elroq, which garnered much attention. Other cars from Škoda’s portfolio were also on display, including a specially modified fourth-generation Superb for the Tour de France race director and the Fabia RS Rally2 competition special.
Reducing software complexity
The second of the Brand Group Core’s six strategic packages is titled Reducing Complexity and focuses primarily on software. The increasing number of drives and assistance systems and the integration of other vehicle functions have led to a complex array of software variants. The aim of reducing the number of software variants is to decrease costs and enhance cybersecurity.
A look inside the battery
The new tomography centre in Hall M6 allows for non-destructive testing of the quality of MEB’s electric platform batteries. Škoda Auto inaugurated this state-of-the-art facility in June this year, and there may not be another facility like it in any other carmaker. Historically, the industry has employed computed tomography technology, or CT scanning, mainly for smaller parts.
Pohled do útrob baterie
Kompaktní, a tedy i dostupnější elektrické SUV značky Škoda.
Elroq loaded with news
On October 1st, the Elroq made its world premiere in Prague. A compact and more affordable electric SUV from Škoda, this latest addition to the carmaker's model range impresses not only with its innovative features and solutions but also with its appearance showcasing the new Modern Solid design language. This language is characterised by functionality, durability and the use of sustainable materials.
Indian student car
Following the model of the Mladá Boleslav apprenticeship, students in India also built their own car. The result is an innovative pickup truck created by combining two Volkswagen models produced under the Škoda Auto banner at the Indian plant in Pune – Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan. The students had access to the latest technology, including 3D printing, which they used to produce the necessary parts.
FORCEd to peak
The Production and Logistics area is implementing a new production strategy. Škoda Auto will now ensure that the development of new vehicles considers efficient production requirements from the start. The aim is to reduce complexity, enhance automation, increase modularity and develop sustainable plants with optimal business results. All of these elements are crucial to Škoda Auto's future success.
Conference for female managers
Supporting women in leadership positions is a key component of Škoda Auto's diversity strategy. In line with this, the carmaker, in cooperation with McKinsey & Company, organised the Women Management Summit. The event focused on trends in the automotive industry, the importance of employees during transformation periods and leadership styles that foster an inclusive and equitable work environment.
Výrobní strategie peak
Oblast Výroby a logistiky zavádí novou výrobní strategii peak.
