Škoda Powers a Thrilling Race

The 112th edition of the Tour de France ended with the final stage finishing on the Champs-Élysées. The Škoda Design department once again created trophies for the overall champion, Tadej Pogačar, the winner of the points and mountain classifications, and the best young rider. Škoda was also the sponsor of the green jersey and the supplier of almost 220 electric cars for the organizers' needs.

Škoda Powers a Thrilling Race

The 112th edition of the Tour de France delivered more amazing performances and stories. The Škoda brand was also brilliantly represented.

The logo and colours of the Czech carmaker are unmistakable at the world’s most prestigious cycling race. You can find them everywhere along the route, on the jersey of the leader of the points competition and, above all, in the accompanying fleet of hundreds of Škoda cars. The trophies for the best riders, led by overall winner Tadej Pogačar, who delivered an unbeatable performance in France this year to claim his fourth victory, also feature design from Mladá Boleslav. Škoda Auto and the Tour de France simply form an inseparable connection.

The red car for the race director is a tradition. This year, the role was filled alternately by specially modified Superb iV and new Enyaq models. In addition to the official Škoda cars, the peloton was also accompanied by the new Elroq Respectline to emphasize Škoda’s values of respect, diversity and inclusion, and the L&K 130 student car (see Expedition with a student car for more information). The 130th anniversary of the carmaker was also marked in the advertising caravan, which entertained fans before the peloton’s arrival, and a special logo created by the ED – Škoda Design department appeared on the glass trophies for the winners.

Connecting with the cycling community

Škoda Auto is building ties with the ever-growing global cycling community through the WeLoveCycling project. Its website provided up-to-date information and interesting facts about the race and behind-the-scenes action. It is available in 15 languages, ranging from Czech and German to Spanish and Danish. Each version offers unique content for the given country and is supplemented by a global English version. Among other things, the website organised a competition for an exclusive prize this year. Seven lucky winners were accompanied by Škoda cars during the final stage. In Paris, they also had the opportunity to take a 60-kilometre ride around the Champs-Élysées with former racers. Throughout the race, the Škoda Elroq Coffee Car mobile café was available to spectators.

This year definitely isn’t over with Tour de France. The Škoda brand and its cars are also an integral part of the women’s Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, which will culminate on 3 August, and also of the Spanish Vuelta, which will start at the end of the month.

Pogačar the King

Excellent performances in time trials and dominant racing, especially in the Pyrenean Mountain stages, earned Slovenian rider Tadej Pogačar his fourth overall victory in the Tour de France, as well as the award for the best climber. CEO Klaus Zellmer also presented the trophy to points classification winner Jonathan Milan and best young rider Florian Lipowitz in Paris.
