HAS CONTINUED TO GROW

In October, the carmaker delivered 107,400 vehicles to customers worldwide, which corresponds

to an increase of 9.7% over the same period last

year. The ŠKODA brand improved its position

particularly in Europe (+11.3%), Russia (+23.8%)

and India (+7.7%). “We are pleased that we were

able to continue the positive trend of the past few

months in October, too”, said Alain Favey, ŠKO-

DA AUTO Board Member for Sales and Marketing. “Our growth in Europe and Russia and the

success of the KODIAQ and KAROQ SUVs are

reasons for optimism about the coming months”,

added Favey. The initial market launches for

the new compact SUV took place at the end of

October, and 1,400 KAROQs have already been

delivered to customers.

ŠKODA’S CAMPAIGNS

DOMINATE AT AWARD SHOWS

The ŠKODA Czech Republic marketing team won two of their three

nominations at the FLEMA Media Awards.

The brand succeeded with its Nature

Sounds campaign in the ‘Best Usage of

Radio’ category and with its Weekend of

Postponed Trips campaign in the ‘Best

Usage of Digital Media’ category, both of

which introduced the KODIAQ to the Czech

market. Moreover, the Marketing Department was awarded the Innovative Customer

Prize and thus repeated its success in this

year’s Zlatý středník and Fénix awards,

where the ŠKODA Czech Republic YouTube

channel took both first and second place.

The campaigns were created by the PHD

and Zaraguza advertising agencies, which

received awards as well.

Euro NCAP test.

2,500 NEW TREES

The ŠKODA Trees environmental

programme celebrated 11 years of

existence by planting 2,500 new trees in the

Rychnov nad Kněžnou region. “Both

professionals and volunteers planted

maples, rowans, lime trees and hornbeams”,

said Jiří Černý, manager of the ŠKODA

AUTO Kvasiny plant. “The ŠKODA Trees

project is one of the social-environmental

activities within the Green Future strategy

that have been carried out successfully in

this region”, added Černý. Approximately

170 new trees were planted in Kvasiny, and

more trees took root in the soil in Dobřany,

Solnice, Trnov and Bačetín.

GOLDEN STEERING WHEEL

FOR THE KAROQ MODEL

The ‘Auto Bild’ car magazine and the

‘Bild am Sonntag’ Sunday newspaper

awarded the ŠKODA KAROQ with the 2017

Golden Steering Wheel. Readers from over

20 European countries had voted the

KAROQ into the final of the ‘Small SUV’

category. In the end, a jury of experts chose

the new compact SUV as the winner after a

number of challenging test drives. “I am

delighted that the latest addition to our

model range is also going down so well.

The result of the survey shows that with the

KAROQ, we are currently offering the most

attractive overall package in the compact

SUV category”, said Christian Strube,

ŠKODA AUTO Board Member for Technical

Development. The Golden Steering Wheel

NEW PROJECTS

GET THE GREEN LIGHT

On Monday, 16 October, both the

ŠKODA Board of Management and

managers were presented the degree of

completion of projects chosen within the

so-called “SLAM” at this year’s MMK

conference. A total of 80 colleagues watched

the presentations of the four teams (COSMO,

Clever Mobility, LUCY@APP and Experience

Electric) at the ŠKODA Museum. At the end

of the presentation, it was decided that the

first three projects will continue immediately,

while Experience Electric will only be

launched in connection with the development of electromobility in ŠKODA AUTO.

6

NATIONWIDE METROLOGY

CONFERENCE AT THE MUSEUM

ŠKODA AUTO and the Czech Metrology Association (ČMS) held the Measuring Equipment in Automotive Industry

conference at the ŠKODA Museum. Frank

Schreier, manager of GQ – Quality Management Department, and Miroslav Hanák,

chairman of ČMS, opened the event in the

Laurin & Klement Hall. The conference took

place on 24 and 25 October and introduced

innovations related to the development of

metrology and measurements and tests in

automotive industry. The lectures covered the

measuring of bodyworks, as well as engine

tests, laboratory tests of materials and an

array of other topics.

7

NEW SCANNER

IN THE TOOL SHOP

The new ATOS ScanBox Series 8

optic measuring system has been

used in the Tool Shop since September. It is

the first machine of its kind in the Czech

Republic. Its advantage is the touchless and

fast 3-D scanning. It delivers more detailed

and comprehensible data than touch

systems do. The software substitutes part of

operators’ activities, generates measuring

positions and prevents robots from colliding

with measured objects. It is used in the Tool

Shop for analyses and quality checks of

polystyrene models, press tools or visual

pressings, among others.

ŠKODA RAPID CARS

FOR UKRAINIAN POLICEMEN

The Ukrainian police reached an agreement

with Eurocar, an official supplier of ŠKODA

cars in Ukraine, to purchase 400 ŠKODA

RAPID cars with 1.6 MPI/81kW engines in

October. The Ukrainian Ministry of Internal

Affairs will receive the cars in December.

Cars from Mladá Boleslav have been used by

police forces in Great Britain, Portugal, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and Israel.

ELECTRICALLY POWERED

ŠKODA CARS

In 2020, ŠKODA AUTO will begin

the manufacturing of all-electric

cars at its production plant in Mladá

Boleslav. Leading up to this, the

ŠKODA SUPERB with plug-in hybrid

drive, which will be the carmaker’s

first electrified model, will leave the

production line in Kvasiny and enter

the market as early as 2019. In the

same year, ŠKODA AUTO will start

manufacturing electrical components

for plug-in hybrids and delivering

them to several VW Group brands.

“ŠKODA’s future will be electric”, says

Bernhard Maier, ŠKODA AUTO CEO.

“By 2025, we plan to offer five purely

electrically powered models in various

segments”, Maier adds.
