RS – LETTERS WHICH

ARE ELECTRIFYING

ŠKODA FANS

For over 45 years, the RS letters have

been electrifying fans of ŠKODA’s sport

models. RS stands for Rally Sport, and in

addition to successful racing specialists

such as the legendary ŠKODA 130 RS, as

of 2000 it also refers to the most sportsfocused versions of our models. Following

the successful history of RS we will now,

twenty years after the debut of the first

generation of the OCTAVIA RS, launch the

fourth generation of the OCTAVIA model

– for the first time with a plug-in-hybrid

drive.

Spacious, variable and excellently equipped for winter

conditions: our models such as the KODIAQ SUV and

the COMBI variants of the SUPERB and OCTAVIA are

excellent cars for a skiing vacation. They offer ample space

for skis, snowboards, all the luggage you’ll need and smart

improvements for the drivers as well as passengers –

including for instance a heated frontal windshield, steering

wheel as well as front and back seats. The adjustable and/

or in some cases serial four-wheel drive will make driving

easy even when traveling to snow-covered skiing centers,

as long as you follow a few basic instructions.

1929

In January 1929, Ing. Karel

Hrdlička – a prominent figure

of Czechoslovak industry

before World War 2 – joined

the Mladá Boleslav based

automotive company as

deputy factory director.

In 1930, after creating

a separate automotive division

of the Škoda factory, he was

promoted to factory director.

Under his leadership we saw

the creation of a progressive

and modern company which

designed, built and produced

cars, trucks, and buses as

well as trolley buses in Mladá

Boleslav.

FAITHFUL FRIENDS OF AN EXPERIENCED PILOT

Regardless of whether you follow motor sports regularly or just from

time to time, you might have been wondering about what it actually looks like inside all those highly tuned racing specials. What does the

crew bring with them into the car, what do they wear? And how do

they communicate with the depot? The ŠKODA Motorsport is certainly

among the most knowledgeable on this topic. The world champion and

multiple Czech champion Jan Kopecký and his FABIA R5 evo will serve

as a helpful guide here.

What does the crew need for each rally? Have a look at bit.ly/314Bcfe.

HOW WHEELS ARE BORN

Cars don’t work without wheels, but wheels are also an integral part of a car’s design – they

have a technical as well as aesthetic role. Even though they are always round, they are still a great

challenge for designers. The appearance of the wheels used in ŠKODA models is the responsibility

of a part of the designer team that focuses on the car’s exterior. Being among them is the dream

of thousands of fresh graduates as well as experienced professionals.

Across

the whole ŠKODA

Design department,

we’ll find designers

of 26 nationalities

in total.

What determines the appearance of the wheels used in our models is the topic of

the following ŠKODA Storyboard article ŠKODA Storyboard.
