Press Line Upgrade Locks in 15 Years of Stability

The PXL I servo press line, designated L41, which has been part of the press shop in Hall M12E since 2012, is undergoing the largest modernisation in its history. The goal of the project is to increase production stability and workplace safety while significantly reducing the energy intensity of operations. Preparations began as early as the start of 2024. The EUR 30 million investment was approved in September, and in December, Andritz Schuler Pressen was selected as the technology supplier. After nearly a year of technical negotiations, the line was shut down last November: It produced its final part and was disconnected from the power grid. By the end of 2025, the electronics and cabling had been dismantled; nearly 40 tonnes were removed during the preparations. Since January 2026, new switchboards and cable harnesses have been installed, and key mechanical components are being rebuilt. The modernisation also includes work on the power supply system of five transformer stations, which provide power not only for the line but also for the entire M12E hall.

The control system, switchgear cabinets and important mechanical components, such as balancing rollers, pressure points and ram damping, are undergoing renovation. Parts of the out-moving table rails are also being replaced, and the press control panels are being modernised. “The result will be a more modern line with significantly more stable operation and lower associated electricity consumption,” says project manager Michal Novotný, who is in charge of press shop technology planning in the PPF-P/4 – Press Shop Structure department.

To meet growing demand during the shutdown, the press shop is utilising the production capacities of the VW Bratislava and Audi Ingolstadt/Münchsmünster plants. The first part to be produced by the line during trial operation is scheduled for June 2026.

The modernised PXL line will thus give the M12E press shop a new boost and ensure reliable operation for at least the next 15 years.
