ŠKODA WEEKLY
06/2020
SOLBERG TO DEBUT
AT A SWEDISH RALLY
The upcoming Swedish rally (13–16 February) will be the
competition where Oliver Solberg (SWE) and navigator Aaron
Johnston (IRL) make their debut in the FABIA Rally2 evo. This
represents the beginning of a cooperation of Oliver Solberg’s team
and ŠKODA Motorsport, which will also span the European part of
the WRC3 category at the FIA World Rally Championship in 2020.
With 13 cars, ŠKODA will no doubt be the most popular brand at
the Swedish starting grid within the Rally2 category (previously R5).
Our special will be privately driven also by Pontus Tidemand, who
won the WRC2 title for ŠKODA in 2017. The ice challenge will
also be faced by Junior European Champions (ERC1) Filip Mareš/
Jan Hloušek.

NUMBER OF THE WEEK
9.716
The ŠKODA 633, produced between 1931–1934, set out on a unique
journey on 17 February 1933. Jiří Hanuš, the son of the former CEO of
the ŠKODA plants, chose this car to travel across the Sahara desert. The
starting point was the village of Radlík in central Bohemia. From there, Hanuš
drove to Marseilles in France and then travelled to Algeria by boat. Exactly
one month later he reached Dakar in Senegal, without a single break-down.
He drove a total of 9 716 kilometers, out of which 6 546 were in Africa.
