ENYAQ iV’s serial production has started

The latest arrival shares an assembly line with the OCTAVIA and KAROQ models at ŠKODA AUTO’s main plant

ne year after the first pre-production car rolled off the Mladá Boleslav production line, the serial production of the new fully electric SUV began on 25 November. The ENYAQ iV became the first ŠKODA production model based on the VW Group’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB). The carmaker will produce up to 350 new electric cars per day on its joint production line for models with the MEB and MQB platforms: the OCTAVIA and the KAROQ. “The ENYAQ iV is the first production model of the ŠKODA brand to be designed from the outset as a purely battery-powered electric car. Therefore, our new SUV places fundamentally different requirements on production processes than any models with internal combustion engines. This is also reflected in the extensive preparations and renovation measures that we have carried out since last summer”, says Dr Michael Oeljeklaus, Board Member for Production and Logistics.

Extensive preparations

To ensure the production of its models with the MEB and MQB platforms on the same production line, the carmaker invested EUR 32 million (approximately CZK 850 million) in essential reconstruction work in Mladá Boleslav. The building’s structure had to be adjusted, and new technologies were developed for transporting parts. They take into account the greater weight of purely battery-powered electric cars and installed components. In addition, ŠKODA AUTO has taken a number of safety measures for battery handling. ED

Our customers can choose from batteries with three different capacities and five power variants to have fun when driving. Our two most powerful car car versions feature a second electric motor. Depending on the battery size, the range of the WLTP cycle can go up to 536 kilometres. A choice of design is also offered for the interior, where the developers used sustainably processed materials, such as natural wool, polyester from recycled PET bottles and leather processed with oil leaf extract without any chemical agents. The ENYAQ iV is also the first ŠKODA model to use a head-up display with augmented reality elements. It displays information about the current speed and recognises traffic signs on two display fields in the driver’s primary field of vision.
