Ariane Kilian joins the communications department
As of July 1, the leadership of the GK – Communications unit will change. Ariane Kilian will replace Jens Katemann, who will become the new Head of Communications for Volkswagen Passenger Cars and the Group’s volume brands. Ms. Kilian was previously responsible for VW Group Communications in the Technology and Volkswagen Group Components business areas. She will report directly to the new Chairman of the Board of ŠKODA AUTO, Klaus Zellmer. Ms Kilian is a trained journalist and, in addition to her work in the media, has previously worked in the press department of the German Bundestag. She joined the VW Group in 2007 and has held various management positions in communications and external relations.
Help for the development of electromobility in the Czech Republic
ŠKODA AUTO is a founding member of the Electric Mobility Platform, which brings together the most important players in the automotive, energy and education sectors. The group has five main objectives: innovation and application of new trends; ensuring conditions for the development and availability of charging infrastructure; accessibility of electromobility and greening of the fleet; development of the electromobility ecosystem and cooperation with key institutions in the development of the regulatory framework; and international cooperation and sharing experience.
Hour for the environment
On 22 April, ŠKODA AUTO’s employees took part in the VW Group’s #Project1Hour initiative for the second time to mark Earth Day. During that one hour, they participated in discussions on sustainability and climate protection. The purpose was, among others, to reflect on their own contribution to improving their ecological footprint and to share with others how they protect the environment. Ideas for climate action will be analysed by the carmaker, and the ones that are selected will be published for inspiration. You can also read about them in ŠKODA Mobil. In addition, employees in the direct area can take part in the initiative until 6 May via the Project1Hour page on ŠKODA Space.

Car of the Year: both the FABIA and ENYAQ iV score high
After the cancellation of last year’s round, motor journalists chose the Car of the Year 2021/2022 in the Czech Republic from 38 new cars for the past two years. The fourth-generation FABIA, which was ranked third by the experts, took the podium. The ŠKODA hatchback is currently the best-selling car on the Czech market. In the public vote, the ENYAQ iV electric car won the Medium SUV and Crossover category.
Ice Hockey
May full of world champions
On Friday, 13 May, the Ice Hockey World Championships will kick off in Helsinki and Tampere, Finland. ŠKODA AUTO, which has been cooperating with the championship organisers since 1992, will not be absent: Its cars will once again be at the service of the organisers and will also be on display at the ice during TV broadcasts. The Czech ice hockey team will enter the tournament on Saturday, 14 May, with a match against Great Britain.

More than 200 journalists and automotive influencers got a thorough introduction to the new KAROQ in the first half of April. The media presentation took place in and around the north Portuguese town of Viana do Castelo, where 40 cars were on display. 65% more electric cars delivered
Despite the semiconductor shortage crisis, the VW Group delivered 65% more fully electric cars in the first quarter than in the same period last year. In total, nearly 100,000 cars were delivered, of which almost 9,000 were ŠKODAs. Last year, the company launched the ENYAQ iV electric model, and as a result, the Mladá Boleslav–based carmaker recorded the most significant percentage increase in deliveries of electric cars of the entire VW Group. The Volkswagen ID.4 is the Group’s best-selling electric car.
Low carbon footprint steel
The VW Group wishes to use steel with significantly lower CO2 emissions from the end of 2025. It has signed a memorandum with Salzgitter AG to cooperate on the supply of green steel and the creation of a recycling circuit between Salzgitter and Wolfsburg. In the future, the use of hydrogen and renewable energy will make it possible to reduce CO2 emissions in steel production by more than 95%.

Jaroslav Povšík and his 45 years at ŠKODA
Jaroslav Povšík has been a member of the ŠKODA family since 1977 and is the long-time chairman of the carmaker’s social partner, the KOVO Trade Union. He has made a decisive contribution to ensuring that ŠKODA AUTO has retained humanity as its most important value despite all the changes it has undergone in the meantime. As a strong negotiator, he always defends the interests of both the employees and the carmaker. Thanks to his discernment and ability to find the right solutions, he has contributed to ŠKODA AUTO’s recent handling of the difficult period of the pandemic and the semiconductor shortage. Let’s clean up the Czech Republic
Participants from ŠKODA AUTO, ČSOP Klenice and other organisations participated in the Let’s Clean Up the Czech Republic event in Milovice.
Seven waste containers
Almost 18 tonnes of waste were collected by volunteers on 2 April during the Let’s Clean Up the Czech Republic event in the Mladá national natural monument. In addition, they found around 200 tyres, which were subsequently sent for recycling. Let’s Clean Up the Czech Republic also continues in May in the vicinity of the Vrchlabí and Kvasiny plants – on 21 May from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Harrachov and on 22 May from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the ridge paths in the Orlické Mountains.

Klaus Zellmer will lead ŠKODA AUTO
The new Chairman of the Board of Directors will take office on 1 July 2022
homas Schäfer, the current Chairman of the Board of Directors of ŠKODA AUTO, will take up the same position at Volkswagen on 1 July 2022. He will be replaced in the leadership of the Mladá Boleslav–based carmaker by Klaus Zellmer, who has been with the VW Group for years and is currently the Board Member for Sales, Marketing and After Sales at Volkswagen. Schäfer, who has been in charge of ŠKODA since the summer of 2020, has been involved in the operational management of the Volkswagen brand as Chief Operating Officer since the beginning of April. He will also take on an important role in the VW Group, where he will manage the volume brands group as a Board member. Zellmer’s career is strongly linked to Porsche, where he joined the company in 1997 as an assistant to a Board member. Through several positions in Sales and Marketing, he worked his way up to the management of Porsche Deutschland in 2010 and was appointed President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America five years later. He joined the Volkswagen Board of Directors in September 2020 and has made a decisive contribution to the brand’s consistent organisational, digital and sustainable orientation towards customer needs. Humanitarian Assistance Plant
How the Ukrainian car plant is helping people during the war
urocar’s plant has a 20-year tradition of assembling ŠKODA and other VW models. However, due to the war in Ukraine, it currently produces no new models but distributes food and other humanitarian aid. Refugee families are living directly in the factory.

Solomonovo plant
The large halls of the Solomonovo plant in Ukraine are used to the bustle of work and the orchestra of machines that have been assembling mostly ŠKODA vehicles for the local market in a regular rhythm for many years. Eurocar has both the narrower, Western European gauge and standard Eastern tracks. From one side, components reach the plant, while finished models (currently the KAROQ, KODIAQ and SUPERB) proceed from the plant to various regions of Ukraine for distribution. At least, that is how it was until recently. The annual capacity of the plant is 80,000 cars produced in the CKD (complete knocked-down) mode and 30,000 assembled as SKD (semi knocked-down, i.e. from a state of partial disassembly – ed.). Although production had to be completely suspended here because of the war, the plant is still busy – perhaps even more than before. Within a few days, the factory became a logistics centre for distributing humanitarian shipments to the people of Ukraine, including aid from collections in the carmaker’s regions, which are flowing into the country via ŠKODA Logistics.
Stock in the warehouses, people in the halls
Instead of wagons with car parts, there are trains with food, clothes, blankets, hygiene equipment, medicines and other medical supplies. Here the aid is distributed, packed and passed on to where it is needed most. “We’ve been involved in providing aid since the first moments of the war. We decided to suspend the production of cars and help as best we could – with logistics facilities, contacts with our suppliers and collaborators in Europe, but also through directly helping our fellow citizens affected by the conflict. We’ve even sheltered dozens of families with children in our halls,” says Elena Chepizhko, Head of External Affairs at Eurocar. And so, in the warehouses, where the car bodies, engines and parts are usually ready to be assembled, pallets of rice and other durable foodstuffs are now stacked; a little further down the road, the plant employees are distributing clothes, sleeping bags, shoes and other textiles, while next door, their colleagues are taking care of medical supplies. Families with children live in the halls and offices, where lighting, heat and at least basic sanitary facilities are available. Over 130 people are now housed here, with more joining them the whole time. The factory kitchen no longer cooks only for the employees but also for the refugees, who receive three meals a day.
Bed made of pallets
The people fleeing the war are grateful for any help that they can get, so they are also happy that their current beds were created, for example, by joining two pallets on which donated mattresses or sleeping bags are temporarily placed. The huge hall can hardly be comfortable, but the families are safe here and children can even learn and play. At least for a while, they will forget the horrors of the war that many have had to go through. “Our employees are also glad that they didn’t lose their jobs because of the war,” recalls E. Chepizhko. “Not everyone can go and fight, but we all stick together and help each other as much as we can. It is important for us as an employer, in addition to helping our fellow citizens, that we maintain the company’s activities at least in this form,” she adds. With the facilities available, the plant has also offered its halls to companies from the rest of the country to operate from Solomonovo. “We wish to contribute to the preservation of Ukraine’s production capacity during the war; this too will help our country and people,” says E. Chepizhko. ED
Solomonovo
This municipality is located in the very western part of Ukraine, on the border with Hungary and Slovakia, in the so-called Transcarpathian region. Thanks to its geographical location, it is now the safest part of the country and has not been seriously affected by the war, which is why many people from the eastern regions are fleeing there. Different cultures and historical legacies intermingle there, with Ukrainians not forgetting the once common state: The entire Transcarpathian region was part of Czechoslovakia during the First Republic. The assembly of Czech cars there has forged closer contacts with the Czech Republic.
Cable Harness Production Continues in Mladá Boleslav
hanks to the teamwork of PEKM (CVG Group) and ŠKODA AUTO, the production of cable harnesses for the FABIA COMBI, OCTAVIA, KODIAQ, KAROQ and SUPERB is gradually getting underway in Mladá Boleslav, with production also continuing in Ukraine. The PEKM team has done a tremendous job during such a difficult time, moving its production lines, equipment and, most importantly, a team of 35 Ukrainian employees to the Czech Republic in just five weeks. Moreover, there is the potential for more colleagues to join them soon. “We are helping our new colleagues from Ukraine to settle into their temporary home. Our team at ŠKODA AUTO has supported them by securing suitable premises, coordinating the move and logistics and coordinating processes,” says Karsten Schnake, Board Member for Purchasing.

HARD TO DESCRIBE MY FEELINGS
Interview with Elena Chepizhko, a Ukrainian helping her compatriots in Mladá Boleslav.
Did you decide to leave Ukraine right away, or did you, like most Ukrainians, believe that you would survive the war at home?
I was sure that I would stay in Kyiv, in my Kyiv. I do not wish to go into too much detail, but the last five days I spent there were the most terrible days of my life, combined with constant fear and desperation, when every moment you run to the basement to hide from the air raid. At one point, I decided it was too dangerous, that I had to leave. I grabbed a bag of essentials, loaded up my mother, who is now retired, and we left for the west of Ukraine. But even there, it was clear that we all couldn’t stay, so I took advantage of an offer my colleagues at ŠKODA AUTO made me.
I feel safe in the Czech
Republic, and I can be more useful here than at home, where our people hide
in shelters 10 times a day because of air raids, and sometimes they don’t come out for days and weeks.
How did you get to Mladá Boleslav?
It was one of several options, but clearly the most sensible. I’ve been here many times thanks to my work, I know the city, and I have several colleagues at ŠKODA who have supported us all, and we’ve been in constant contact. I couldn’t have done it without their help.
How long did the trip take you?
I have to admit that I’m not used to driving long distances, but when your life is on the line, you just do what you have to do. My mom and I took breaks, but the biggest delay was at the Romanian-Hungarian border. We stood there endlessly with other people. The whole journey ended up taking six days. The Romanians were great at helping the refugees, but the biggest difference was seen after crossing the Czech border. There were signs in Ukrainian at gas stations for people who needed help. You can see that the Czech Republic is doing a lot for refugees affected by the war.
Are you in touch with your family and colleagues?
Yes, I’m always in touch with my team and other colleagues and friends in Ukraine. But I worry even more about everyone from a distance. Every crisis gives us a chance to see the real face of the people around us. My father and grandmother stayed in Kyiv; they didn’t want to leave. My dad tries to be helpful there, and we also call or write each other every day. I can hardly describe all the feelings in words, including how much I miss my family. But I’m glad that from here in Mladá Boleslav, I can help my compatriots more than I could in Kyiv.
What are your plans for the near future?
To live and enjoy every day. Even for those who gave their lives to bring peace to my country. The short-term goal is definitely to learn Czech as soon as possible. In the long term, I see my role as ensuring the cultural integration of Ukrainians at least in Mladá Boleslav. I feel a certain responsibility on my part because many of my Ukrainian colleagues came here thanks to the mutual cooperation project that I was in charge of.
Do you see anything positive in the current situation, despite the tragic effects of the war, either for the people of Ukraine or for future generations?
I hope that the war in Ukraine will finally give real meaning to the phrases that “War is meaningless” and “Every person’s life matters”. I believe it is the only way for the civilised world. Every person in Ukraine has experienced their own tragedies. A lot of people have lost their homes, their livelihoods, their relatives. Or all of it. In such conditions, looking to the future with optimism is difficult and painful. But life must go on. ED

She spent five days hiding from shelling in Kyiv, and the next six days travelling through Romania, Hungary and Slovakia. Now, Elena Chepizhko, Head of External Affairs for the Ukrainian company Eurocar, is in Mladá Boleslav, where she helps her compatriots in the Czech Republic and Ukraine. Elena has been working at Eurocar for 12 years and living in the capital city of Kyiv, where the manufacturing company has its headquarters.

Career day for the women from Ukraine
The help provided to the refugees from Ukraine includes support in finding a job as well
KODA AUTO’s Recruitment Centre prepared an event at which specialists introduced the women from Ukraine to job vacancies not only directly at the carmaker but also elsewhere in Mladá Boleslav and the surrounding area and throughout the Czech Republic. The event took place on 6 April and was aimed primarily at the wives and partners of the existing employees, where at least basic support is provided. To make things as easy as possible for the job seekers, they could also come with their children. The women were attended by four specialists from the recruitment centre who speak Ukrainian or Russian in addition to English. They helped the jobseekers to compile and print their CVs and introduced them to information channels where they could search for vacancies – both in the region, near their homes, and anywhere in the Czech Republic. The candidates also got an overview of vacancies directly at the carmaker. This was the first event of its kind, and another recruitment drive was held on 12 April in Kvasiny. Job seekers can continue to register through the hotline for support of people affected by the conflict in Ukraine (tel.: 704 941 434). As the interest in this assistance has been high from the beginning, the Recruitment Centre is preparing further similar meetings. ED

For children, schools and teachers
The ŠKODA AUTO Foundation has been active as well by activating its partners and announcing a set of regional grant programmes. The projects will be used by local authorities and organisations to promote the involvement of adults and children, for example, through education, language courses, children’s clubs or psychological, health and social support.
I Stand by You
This is a special project to integrate the young people from Ukraine, involving all the schools in the regions where the car company operates.
Support of art schools
In connection with the increase in the capacity of the art schools to include children from refugee families, the foundation decided to finance the tuition fees for disadvantaged children and purchase additional musical instruments.
Helpline
The foundation responded to the sharp increase in the number of children calling the helpline in connection with the war. It wishes to financially support two projects: Helpline in Your Classroom and Helpline in Your Sports Club, which it will work on with the Czech Soccer Association.
Teachers’ mental health
Financial support to attend online workshops or themed sessions for teachers.
EDU Week 2022
Together with the ŠKODA AUTO University, the foundation wishes to support educators during EDU Week 2022 by focusing on selected topics such as the concept of open schools, crisis intervention and the integration of foreigners.
Support of school principals
The foundation wishes to incorporate methodological support of school principals – through which it will prepare them for changes in education and new challenges – into the current ŠKODA EDU programme.

Health services for refugees
ŠKODA AUTO, in cooperation with the regional Klaudián Hospital in Mladá Boleslav, checks the health status of the refugees from Ukraine in its accommodation facility, which it offers for humanitarian purposes. A team of employees from the SG – Health Services and Ergonomics unit carries out the medical registration of the refugees so that each of them can quickly and efficiently receive the care that they need there and now. This unit also caters to the needs of chronically ill patients and prescribes the medicines that they have been taking in Ukraine or their available equivalents. The refugees also receive detailed information on how to proceed if they need to receive health care in the Czech Republic.
For my Smile
There are situations in life that we cannot control. ŠKODA AUTO University (ŠAVŠ) has, therefore, supported those who find themselves in difficult situations. “Our Ukrainian students have had their lives turned upside down. Despite this, they are actively involved in helping others – organising humanitarian collections, interpreting and helping families coming to the Czech Republic while still managing to smile. Apart from volunteering, studying at our school has also become a strong point in their lives,” says Pavel Mertlík, Rector of the ŠAVŠ. That is why the For my Smile project was created, thanks to which everyone can support these students. You can help them by offering to help (internships, part-time jobs), cooperating through the Study and Work programme or making a financial contribution to their tuition fees by sending it to the ŠAVŠ transparent account.

Talk to your children about the war
How can you best support yourself and your children in these difficult times?
hildren can get scared and sad no matter where they live, and they look to their parents for security. The situation in Ukraine is affecting everyone. A lot of parents also experience fear and anxiety, which are natural reactions to events that are completely out of the norm. Children perceive all of this as well. We are not indifferent to the military conflict in Ukraine; it touches our values and makes us feel threatened. Challenging situations arouse an overload of emotions, shock, chaos and fear in us. They affect not only our mental well-being but also our physical well-being: breathing, heartbeat, kidney function etc. Our daily routine suddenly requires a greater amount of energy. People fleeing violence in their own homes have often lost everything, so be generous and offer them some of your own luxuries. Everyone will feel better as a result. Each of us should spread compassion and take part in supporting each other. Children can also take an active part in helping – by drawing pictures, writing letters to new children, sharing play activities etc.
Why it is important to talk about the war
In the current situation, children are unable to make a realistic assessment of the impact of the various warring powers; at the same time, they strongly perceive that their “small” world is being threatened. Therefore, give children the space to vent their emotions and speak up, listen to them and have age-appropriate discussions with them. Let them know that you feel their feelings and reassure them that they are completely natural. It is OK if you cannot answer every question that your child has. Eva Macková

More Effective Warehouse Organisation
The Central Technical Service team optimised the storage and ordering of spare parts with the help of the hackathon
ndirect material is stored in nearly 50 warehouses and dispensing points. It is, therefore, challenging to maintain a good overview when restocking spare parts for machinery so that there are no duplicate items there. In 2018, the PSZ – Central Technical Service employees thus decided to find a way to optimise ordering and stock management. Therefore, they used the InnoTeam support and organised a two-day hackathon to help them find a solution. “Five teams consisting of representatives from several departments of the carmaker, freelancers, and ŠKODA AUTO University students participated. The hackathon was able to bring an unbiased perspective and ideas that had not occurred to those of us who have been involved in this for years,” says about hackathon Miloš Zejval, project coordinator for process digitisation from the PSZ/1 – Methodology, Standardisation, and Service Department. The representatives of the PF – Car Production, PK – Component Production, and FI – Information Technology Departments also attended the event. InnoTeam helped, for example, secure the venue and organise the event for around fifty people. The hackathon eventually led to the cooperation with Revolt.BI, which developed a suitable software tool based according to the requirements. “Based on the criteria, it extracts stock items that have been either without movement or with the minimum movement. An expert then analyses them in relation to the number of uses on the machines and decides what to do with them. This means, for example, sending them for scrapping, selling them off, transferring them to another warehouse, or another solution,” explains M. Zejval. The software was first tested in one of the largest warehouses – 1920 ND Mechanics where it proved valuable. Now, the logic deployed in the Proof of Concept phase is being transformed into a standard SAP Analytics Cloud tool. ED

or the second time, Area P – Production and Logistics held a competition for the best digital solution copy. The competition motivates our employees to increasingly use proven technologies and system solutions. ŠKODA AUTO thus avoids possible solution duplications and can work effectively with the capacity of the IT Department. Just like the first year, the second year of the competition showed that close inter-area cooperation works well in the Production and Logistics area. Our employees not only share with each other their knowledge gained during project solutions, but often take an active role in implementing a proven solution at their colleagues’ workplaces. This shared know-how supports the digitisation increase throughout the carmaker, as evidenced by the average time required to implement copied solutions. While in the first year, it was 11 months, in the second year, we are already down to the average of 7.6 months.
The expert jury evaluated ten copied digitisation solutions on 2 March when each of the teams had five minutes to present the purpose and benefits of the project to the jury. The jury voted for the top three places via a form in MS Forms, and just seconds after the votes were cast, the results of the competition could be presented thanks to Power BI. Each of the award-winning projects moves the entire production area towards digitisation.

What inspired you to work at ŠKODA AUTO?
I joined the carmaker in 1995 from ČD, where I had worked as a train dispatcher in Chotětov. I wanted to have a shorter commute to work and was also motivated by the possibility of financial and career growth.
How did you start at the carmaker?
I started as a production worker in the old Paint Shop in Hall M2. After two months, I approached the manager with the idea that I could make a greater contribution to the carmaker as a foreman. So I soon started working as a foreman in the old Base Paint Shop in Hall M12. After the new Paint Shop in Hall M11A (now M16) was completed, I moved there as a foreman. Eventually, I became a shift supervisor and later coordinator.
What contribution have you made to the carmaker?
I’ve secured considerable savings for ŠKODA AUTO through improvement suggestions. For example, my last suggestion substantially improved the climatic conditions for the employees working in the UBS booths (manual underbody spraying – ed.) where the temperature in the summer was over 30°C, which also affected the smooth running of the line. Another benefit is certainly the fact that I pass on my production experience to younger colleagues and foremen.
Is the work in the production area challenging, and how?
Definitely. Every day, you have to deal with something different, and you need to be able to react to these changes properly. The quality of work in the Paint Shop can be affected by the work of previous operations, equipment breakdowns and even the weather. My team must be able to react to all this and remember all the new experiences so that we can use them in the future. ED

One in five engines produced by the VW Group originates with ŠKODA AUTO’s Technical Development and Production
he Mladá Boleslav plant continues its more than 120-year tradition of engine development and production under the wing of the VW Group, where it is a leader in the development of MPI powertrains. Currently, engine components are built in halls M2 and M6, followed by the assembly of complete three-cylinder and four-cylinder EA211 engines, which work with both MPI and TSI injection systems (see EA211 engines from ŠKODA AUTO), in Hall M2A. Moreover, the powertrains produced here are used in the entire range of VW Group vehicles – not just in ŠKODA models. These include the Volkswagen up!, Polo, Golf, Tiguan and SEAT Arona, Ibiza and Leon, among others. Thus, ŠKODA AUTO plays a very important role in the VW Group in the development and production of engines, with one-fifth of its engines having their roots in Mladá Boleslav. Cars with them roll off the assembly lines not only here but also in India, South America and, as long as the situation allows, Ukraine and Russia.
Nevertheless, Mladá Boleslav dominates engine production at ŠKODA AUTO. More than 650 employees work here in three shifts. In addition to nearly 2,500 engines, 6,250 connecting rods, 2,400 crankshafts, 2,300 blocks and the same number of engine heads leave the production line every day. “Continuous process optimisation, efficient automation and the implementation of intelligent IT solutions are key factors in maintaining competitiveness. Our excellent team of real experts forms the backbone for their implementation, and with their know-how, we can also support production in other regions, for example at the Pune plant in India,” says Lars Bürger, Head of PKM – Engine EA 211.

A wealth of experience
The carmaker has a lot to draw on in the production and development of engines, having produced its first engine as early as 1899. The revolutionary engine of the ŠKODA 1000 MB from 1964, for example, has a long history. According to the original patent, its block was made using the aluminium die-casting method, which brought about a great increase in production speed and a reduction in weight. The concept of the engine and its production was retained for the 1987 FAVORIT front-wheel drive model, and the carmaker’s engineers still make use of this experience to this day.
An example of the VW Group’s successful collaboration is the improved MPI Evo 1-litre unit, which promises even more efficient and economical operation, especially with lower consumption and, therefore, a lower environmental burden. Today, it serves as the base engine of the latest generation FABIA, for example. “The engine is atmospherically charged and operates in the Atkinson cycle to reduce consumption, especially under part load,” says Marek Slovák, EA211 cylinder head development engineer from the EPO – Engine Development department. He is referring to the technology, which involves closing the intake valve later, thereby allowing some of the fuel mixture to return to the intake manifold. Compression starts later, after the valve has been closed. In this way, the actual compression ratio is reduced, while the expansion ratio remains high. This leads to higher engine efficiency. “To achieve this, the cams that open the valves must be nearly as wide as on a race car. And the MPI Evo also behaves almost like that. The engine likes high revs and has a high power output relative to its displacement,” adds M. Slovák.
Today, the three- and four-cylinder MPI multipoint injection engines developed in Mladá Boleslav are produced and assembled worldwide at a rate of more than 2 million units per year. ED

India’s Mission Nears First Target
ŠKODA AUTO has developed four models in India tailored to this market. They include Volkswagen brand cars
ore then three years ago, ŠKODA AUTO took over responsibility for managing the Indian activities of the entire VW Group and, in this context, introduced the INDIA 2.0 project, which is now successfully reaching its climax. Its most visible component is the model offensive, in which the Czech carmaker is responsible for its new ŠKODA cars and for Volkswagen’s Indian cars. ŠKODA has successfully taken up the task assigned by the VW Group and is now completing the INDIA 2.0 project with its fourth consecutive launch.
Owing to COVID-19, the experts were unable to travel to India. Yet, with the help of local suppliers, online support from Mladá Boleslav and a great deal of input from the entire team, we met all the deadlines.

The project is intended to lay the groundwork for the Group’s long-term goal of achieving a 5% market share in India, depending on the market and segment-specific developments. The new models are based on the compact MQB-A0-IN platform, which is tailored to Indian conditions and whose development falls under the auspices of ŠKODA AUTO. The first car launched in this way was the ŠKODA KUSHAQ compact SUV and its sister car, the Volkswagen Taigun, at the beginning of last year. These launches were followed by those of compact sedans – the ŠKODA SLAVIA at the end of last year and the Volkswagen Virtus in March. All the cars feature up to 95% production localisation and equipment and trim tailored to Indian conditions. For example, they have a higher chassis and generous space for up to five passengers, whose comfort is enhanced by a lowered central tunnel in the rear seats. Interesting details include a place for a talisman on the dashboard or a more pronounced horn sound.
The team in Pune deserves respect and a big thank you for the successful launches in terms of quantity and quality and for meeting the deadlines. Using our experience with the INDIA 2.0 project, we are enthusiastic to take on the next challenges.

Remote management and collaboration
The coronavirus pandemic posed a complication for the development and launch of the new models. The experts from Mladá Boleslav were unable to travel, and communication with our colleagues at the Pune plant and at the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg happened virtually. The Indian plants were also struggling with shortages of manpower and parts from suppliers who also had to ensure the implementation of ŠKODA AUTO standards in pre-series production. Meetings with suppliers were also held online. Livestreaming was also used, for example, for the India Innovation Day event (see the October 2021 issue of ŠKODA Mobil), as well as for the Quality department’s assessments and evaluations and other activities.
The SLAVIA sedan represented the latest ŠKODA introduction on the Indian market. The work on this model’s launch began with the first pilot hall meeting in December 2019. Countless such meetings have been held since then, mostly via Skype and MS Teams. The SLAVIA can now head to our customers in India, as well as markets in Nepal and Sri Lanka, when the island’s pandemic measures are over. More than half of the cars are available at the highest Style trim level, which includes ventilated front seats or electrically operated sunroof, among others.
The joint launch of the KUSHAQ and Taigun models followed a similar pattern. The Czech brand’s first SUV developed specifically for India rolled off the production line last June. The highest trim level, Style, dominates production as well, with white Candy followed by orange Honey, which is familiar from the model’s communication campaigns. The KUSHAQ is also intended for Nepal and Sri Lanka. Exports represent one of the key components of the INDIA 2.0 project. This January, the first export of Taigun cars under the T-Cross export name to Mexico was a very important milestone. And there are also plans to export it to countries like Indonesia and Fiji and others in sub-Saharan Africa. SAVWIPL is also targeting markets in other regions

The SLAVIA model was presented in India during an elaborate marketing campaign divided into several phases. The first one introduced the new car with an emphasis on the generally appreciated features of ŠKODA cars, namely their robust constructions, high quality and safety levels. In print media, the SLAVIA presented its features to its future owners, as well as the brand’s design language. A social media campaign was also launched on Valentine’s Day, 14 February, with the #datewithSLAVIA hashtag, I Y SLAVIA branding in showrooms and the slogans “The All New ŠKODA SLAVIA. It is all that matters” and “Love at first drive”.
“The SLAVIA model was launched in February 2022 and has received a tremendous market response. In March alone, we sold more than 3,000 cars and gained a 38% share in the segment for the month,” says Pushkar Patwardhan, ŠKODA brand’s Sales Manager responsible for India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. “We ran the campaign not only online but also in print and on television and billboards,” he says, adding that a similar approach was followed for the launch of the KUSHAQ SUV.
Smart solutions for smart customers
The Indian market is distinct from the Czech market in several ways. For example, carmakers in India have to cope with the fact that campaigns need to be adapted to a total of 11 regional languages. What remains are smart solutions for smart customers and a focus on young, educated and dynamic families. “Thus, the target clients are also recruited, for example, from among the owners of FABIA and RAPID models, to whom we are offering completely new cars as part of the INDIA 2.0 strategy,” says P. Patwardhan. He is referring to the VW Group’s current drive to bring new and modern yet affordable cars to the local market. ED
The SLAVIA Shows its Power
The new sedan’s premiere was hosted by the state of Goa in India
or the media presentation of a new compact car for a highly competitive market, ŠKODA chose the attractive setting of a former Portuguese colony in western India. At the event, the company presented two engine versions of the car separately to journalists, since each targets different customers. The version with the 85 kW 1.0 TSI three-cylinder was designed to compete on the Indian market with the established compact sedans, such as the Honda City, the Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, while the car with the more powerful 110 kW 1.5 TSI Evo powertrain forms its own specific class and is aimed at car enthusiasts.
More than 180 journalists, as well as selected ŠKODA fans, attended the six-day media presentation. Both versions of the SLAVIA received positive reactions and dozens of articles and videos, reaching up to 120 million people. “It looks nice, the 1.0 TSI engine has plenty of thrust, the driving dynamics are excellent, and it is practical, comfortable and sensible in every sense of the word,” wrote AutoX magazine, for example, in its review of the new car. The variant with the more powerful engine also received praise. “The SLAVIA with the 1.5 TSI engine has virtually no direct competitors. This distinctive car offers an excellent combination of exciting driving dynamics and everyday comfort,” said the MoneyControl server in its praise of the car. ED

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the carmaker initiated a campaign to support female drivers
KODA AUTO Volkswagen India Private Limited’s (SAVWIPL) #LicencetoDrive project aims to empower the free movement of women, provide them with the necessary knowledge and skills and make it easier for them to get a driver’s licence, which is still a male domain in India. Owing to persistent stereotypes, the percentage of new driver’s licences issued to women there has long been in the single digits. This is what the #LicencetoDrive project wishes to change. The action started spontaneously in a team outside the workplace. However, it very quickly gained widespread support, including from Sarma Chillara, HR Director of ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India Private Limited. A comprehensive project was then created at the Volkswagen Training Academy, which enabled women to learn and practise driving skills during the regular working day and moreover, directly on-site at the carmaker’s plants. They had several training cars at their disposal. A special logo and campaign were also created to support the event, and employee volunteers participated as trainers. The trainees then shared their experience with their colleagues. There were also quiz competitions with valuable prizes. In the first phase of the project, more than 100 female employees were trained. However, the project is open to other women who are interested in the campaign.

The Way Out of the Semiconductor Crisis

erhaps never before have semiconductors been discussed as intensively as in recent months. And yet, they have long been an integral part of our lives and have served us in virtually all devices – from mobile phones to electric kettles to cars – where semiconductors in the form of chips are part of control units and countless other elements. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly altered the balance when it comes to their production. The huge increase in teleworking has caused the demand for chips in the computer and telecommunications industries to increase many times over. This has had a major impact on the global semiconductor shortage, which has also affected the automotive industry.
This shortage also had a significant impact on production at ŠKODA AUTO, extending delivery times for cars that had been waiting for a long time to be completed. With the automotive market accounting for 10% of the total demand for semiconductors, carmakers are facing the challenge of becoming a similarly attractive partner for chipmakers as the computer and communications technology manufacturers. The transformation of carmakers, coupled with the electrification of cars and their connectivity, facilitates this change, and the demand for semiconductors from carmakers will continue to grow.
The task for COMPASS
To help the Volkswagen Group get the semiconductor shortage situation under control, the new COMPASS (Cross Operational Management Parts & Supply Security) strategy project builds on the work of the previous semiconductor working group. Karsten Schnake, ŠKODA AUTO Board Member for Purchasing, was tasked with managing this project on behalf of the entire VW Group. An international and cross-functional team comprising representatives of the Group’s brands is working in an agile and pragmatic manner to improve the supply of semiconductors. An important characteristic is its ability to make quick decisions and maximise efficiency so that it can respond to asymmetric threats in the supply chain at short notice. “As part of the COMPASS project, we are also negotiating directly with semiconductor manufacturers and seeking partnerships that will ensure long-term guarantees. In the future, we also plan to develop our own chips, which we would have the manufacturers produce according to our design. We are already looking to the future,” says K. Schnake. COMPASS is, therefore, focusing on short-term crisis situations with acute chip shortages, as well as strategic activities to secure long-term supply. It has a team that analyses data, provides early warning of new bottlenecks, advises on alternative semiconductor solutions and procures chips through brokers. ED
What is a semiconductor?
A semiconductor is a material whose electrical conductivity can be easily influenced by supplying, for example, electrical, thermal or light energy, which can be used to carry out various machine instructions. The most common semiconductors are silicon, but some other elements and compounds have these properties as well. Semiconductors are currently used in huge quantities in electronic components to make chips of various designs. These chips are a wafer of semiconductor material on which a circuit is formed. The chips can then be used in microprocessors, for example. But even LED light sources cannot do without them. ŠKODA’s new brand purpose motivates every carmaker’s employee
very successful company has its own story and a brand purpose that justifies its existence beyond the need to make a profit. This long-standing idea explains the positive impact that a company’s activities should have on society while also giving meaning to what its employees do every day and why they do it. A clear brand purpose is also beneficial economically, especially in the increasingly competitive environment of the automotive industry. For this reason, the carmaker launched activities in 2021 that culminated in the formulation of ŠKODA’s brand purpose.

Improving the lives of our customers
It was based on 11 months of marathon conversations conducted by brand strategy experts with dozens of employees across all the ŠKODA AUTO areas. They revealed that the existing vision and mission were not fully understood by our employees and only reflected the company’s intrinsic motivation. “It is true that ŠKODA employees have had a curious mindset. However, based on the dialogues we had, we realised that the carmaker’s ultimate goal, since the time of Václav Laurin, has always been to improve the lives of its customers,” explains Antonio Mineo, expert coordinator of global communications strategy from the VMS – Brand Strategy and Content Production department.
The impetus to change the brand purpose also came from client behaviour. According to studies, 67% of customers worldwide prefer brands with a clear purpose. Moreover, they favour brands that enrich their daily lives in an emotional and tangible way. ŠKODA has all the necessary prerequisites in its DNA to offer this to its customers. “It was just a matter of recasting this widely shared feeling into a clear and concise message that translates into all of the carmaker’s activities. In the end, we concluded that the ŠKODA brand’s long-term desire and mission is to help the world to live smarter,” adds a colleague from the VMS department, Lukáš Shon.
Emotions will attract new clients
The strength of the ŠKODA brand continues to lie in reliable, high-quality and functional cars. This well-known rationale inspires great confidence in our customers, which they demonstrate through their loyalty. In the future, it will also be essential to build a strong emotional platform that will attract new customers to the Czech carmaker’s products and enable it to continue to develop its relationship with existing customers. The new brand purpose will help to do just that. It also played an important role in the creation of the NEXT LEVEL – ŠKODA STRATEGY 2030. It became the starting point for discussions on the carmaker’s new corporate plan, with key themes aimed at fulfilling its purpose to help the world live smarter. ED

What were the business reasons for setting a new purpose for the ŠKODA brand? How does it contribute to achieving the objectives of NEXT LEVEL – ŠKODA STRATEGY 2030?
Our goal is for our cars and products to be perceived and associated with rational decision-making but also on the basis of positive emotions and experiences. I believe that a clearly defined brand mission will help us to get closer to current and future customers who identify with our core values: human, simplifying, surprising. Our brand mission and values are an integral part of our corporate strategy and culture, and everyone knows them as at least the Human Touch approach and Simply Clever solutions. s our customers are changing and increasingly looking for added value from companies and brands in the market today that they can personally relate to, ŠKODA AUTO and its employees are also seeing an evolution in what is important to them when collaborating in a challenging new world of work. With the NEXT LEVEL – ŠKODA STRATEGY 2030, activities in this direction have also taken on a clearer outline within the carmaker itself. The Mindset Change project brings a clear focus to changing how employees think about and approach collaboration within the company.
The Mindset Change project
The carmaker has long pursued its Simply Clever approach, and customers and employees see it as an integral part of the ŠKODA identity. However, with the changes that the automotive environment is undergoing, there has been a need to support further development and change mindsets and attitudes in a more systematic way. For this reason, the Mindset Change project was launched at the beginning of 2021. A project team consisting of colleagues from across the company was formed under the leadership of Alois Kauer, Head of SE – ŠKODA Academy. Michael Oeljeklaus, Board Member for Production and Logistics, is the mentor of the project. “The work on the project has been very intensive and stimulating and has enabled us to take a big step forward. Now it is about being able to further develop our mindset and company culture from both sides – from the bottom up and from the top down,” comments A. Kauer.
Lighthouse projects
Six key themes emerged from the first part of the project: Courage, Openness, Empowerment, Customer Centricity, People and Cleverness. These six themes have already been the focus of the so-called lighthouse projects in 2021, which were designed to support the necessary change of mindset within the carmaker with concrete steps and activities. In the People area, for example, the lighthouse project focuses on new ways of working, job and space sharing, mobile work and other new possibilities. In the area of Empowerment, the project is mapping the company’s internal forms and processes, among other things, and is seeking to reduce this administrative burden, simplify processes and increase the decision-making power of employees. The lighthouse project for Courage is the Screw-Up Talks, where Board Members and managers present their missteps, mistakes and failures with lessons learned to inspire others to be more open about mistakes. “Several thousand Škodians have been directly involved in the Mindset Change project or some of its events, and we want to thank them for that,” adds A. hanks to the Mindset Change project, it was possible to identify cultural values from the perspective of employees. “We needed to find out what Škodians appreciate about our current culture and where they want to take it next, and we did that,” says Michael Oeljeklaus, Board Member for Production and Logistics. At the same time, these values are in line with ŠKODA’s brand values as a whole. Employees across the company shared the core values in their behaviour but lacked a clear common definition. Thus, a picture of ŠKODA’s target culture emerged. Having a clear common goal gives us a better opportunity to realise what we are already doing well today and what we want more of in our collaboration; at the same time, we can better identify what is not aligned with our goals and what we want to change. “We achieve success when we enjoy our work, which is why it’s important to develop our company culture – it has a huge impact,” says Alois Kauer, Head of SE – ŠKODA Academy.
Three values in behaviour
It turns out that it is most important for Škodians to approach one another with a Thoughtful & Caring, Smart & Pragmatic and Open & Courageous attitude. It is no coincidence that these values reflect the Simply Clever approach and Human Touch philosophy that we have held close for some time already. What’s new now is a clear focus on the fact that each of us influences, co-creates and can change the company culture. The newly defined brand purpose “We will the world live smarter” and the brand values (Human, Simplifying and Surprising) are then fully aligned with the cultural values.
Four perspectives
The values are complemented by four perspectives that are directed towards each Škodian in connection with colleagues, the customer, the company and the environment. “For example, the Customers and I perspective helps us to realise that we don’t just have external customers, but internal ones as well. The My Colleagues and I perspective helps to build trust and responsibility, and the Company and I perspective encourages efficiency. And by using the Environment and I, we can target improvements in sustainability,” says A. Kauer. ED

With the new target culture, Customer Centricity permeates the entire carmaker. The brand’s values better reflect the changes that the entire industry is undergoing, adding, for example, respect for the environment or greater social responsibility. “There is a certain integration of external and internal developments in the car industry,” comments A. Kauer, Head of SE – ŠKODA Academy, who was behind the Customer CentriCITY educational project that runs at ŠKODA Space. “Our internal customer, i.e. the colleague or department I work with, is now just as important as the end customer,” adds A. Kauer. The purpose is to talk more about the meaning of the ŠKODA brand, both within the carmaker and with the end customer.

Changes That Every Škodian Can Influence
Two more Strategy Talks highlighted the evolution of company culture and how ŠKODA AUTO is becoming Simply Clever in the digital world
The turbulent times of the present help ŠKODA AUTO employees to support each other even more, talk together and jointly contribute to the carmaker’s future and transformation. The Strategy Talks series makes this possible by giving an opportunity to discuss the NEXT LEVEL – ŠKODA Strategy 2030 with the carmaker’s top managers. The two most recent talks, held in March and April, touched on the topics of Customer Centricity and Mindset Change.
The discussion on the former topic was introduced on 29 March by Martin Jahn, Board Member for Sales and Marketing. He highlighted the current challenges that ŠKODA AUTO is facing in the context of the war in Ukraine. In addition, he emphasised the growing importance of digitisation and individualisation. “We will go through a digital paradox, which means that our customers will increasingly wish to be involved in the digital world but will also expect a human touch. That is why one of the ŠKODA brand’s tasks is to become Simply Clever in the digital world,” added M. Jahn. Eric Boutin, Head of VX – Customer Journey, explained how the carmaker is meeting this challenge. “We are preparing great digital tools covering the entire customer journey from the information- and AI-driven configurator to the 360-degree ENYAQ iV centre, where the customer will find all the information before buying that car, to the new virtual showroom,” said E. Boutin.
The Strategy Talks series continued on 22 April with the topic of Mindset Change, which was introduced by Michael Oeljeklaus, Board Member for Production and Logistics. “It’s simple: To emerge stronger from the radical transformation process in the automotive industry, we need to change not only our company but also ourselves. It is a good thing that ŠKODA AUTO has a distinctive corporate culture: team-oriented, implementation-driven and unpretentious in its appearance,” said M. Oeljeklaus. It was on this strong foundation that the team led by Alois Kauer, Head of SE – ŠKODA Academy, was able to build the new strategy. “We wish to involve as many of ŠKODA AUTO’s employees as possible in the project. That is why we conducted dozens of interviews with our colleagues from all over the world across departments and hierarchies and also involved the KOVO Trade Union. The goal was to understand what ŠKODA AUTO employees appreciate about the current company culture and where we can improve,” explained A. Kauer. ED

Digital is Faster and Easier
A pilot event motivated our Paint Shop employees to make greater use of our IT services and ŠKODA Cafeteria Benefits
hanks to our electronic solutions, the administrative burden is being lifted, and paper consumption for printing is decreasing. However, not all employees (especially in the direct area) are making full use of the carmaker’s IT services. For this reason, a pilot project to raise awareness of these services was carried out at paint shops A and B at the beginning of the year in cooperation with the KOVO Trade Union.
The first part focused on logging into ŠKODA AUTO’s IT services. With the help of the foremen and forewomen, coordinators trained 90% of our nearly 2,000 employees at the two paint shops. The result was a significantly greater use of electronic payroll – whereas 66% of the Paint Shop employees previously had their payroll printed, after the pilot project, the figure was only 25%. Instead of around 1,300 payslips, fewer than 500 are printed now. Just for for the foreman, it means that he saves five hours of labor, saving additional hours of labor team coordinators and administrative staff. Total quantified potential of savings in paint shops A and B thus amounts to almost one million CZK. Since the project has proved its worth, it was approved for deployment at our other plants at the end of March. “As the project has proved its worth, it will be continued in other operations. We are making it easier for employees to manage their access, including changing their passwords to access the cafeteria, ŠKODA Space, payroll and other applications,” says Zbyněk Prokop, coordinator of SB/4 – Digitalisation and system support HR. This department participated in the project with the PFO – Car Production MBO and SP/1 – Compensation and Benefits. Project follows the introduction of a new easier Login with a personal number (more in ŠKODA Mobil 3/2022).
Cafeteria ambassadors
The other project was rolled out in March to motivate our employees to use the ŠKODA Cafeteria Benefits in their mobile phones. During breaks and shift changes, our cafeteria ambassadors were at their disposal. Our employees who sought their support most often needed advice on where to find the cafeteria on their phones. Their other queries were about not knowing their login details, where to order and collect their FlexiPass card for the cafeteria etc. During their training, our employees appreciated the expansion of the goods and services that can be purchased from the cafeteria. Some would also appreciate their card being digitised so that they could keep it on their phones. The carmaker’s representatives already examine this possibility and will actively work on implementing it. ED

he information websites will feature a new unified structure that will make it easier to navigate and accelerate your access to information you search for. They will also reduce any duplication of information and, through greater interaction with our employees, should also help to improve the company’s culture. Relevant gadgets or news items will now be displayed on a given topic. The Long Road to the Law of Love
The ŠKODA Proud employee group and the diversity team from the SX – Transformation department opened up the topic of legalising same-sex marriage in the Czech Republic
KODA AUTO’s employees and their friends watched the documentary film The Law of Love, which charts the thorny road to same-sex marriage, at the Na Karmeli Education Centre. The screening and discussion with the protagonists and filmmakers were organised by the ŠKODA Proud employee group and the diversity team from the SX – Transformation department. The documentary presents not only the parliamentary culture in the Czech Republic but also the importance of opening up and talking about LGBT+ issues. “My partner and I have been living together for seven years, and we would like to get married one day, which has not been possible yet. I think it is time to change that. Society is more open than politicians,” said Ondřej Kubáček, one of the viewers.
Barbora Chalupová began filming the documentary after volunteers from the We Are Fair initiative urged her to sign a petition for marriage for all. “I asked why, when there are registered partnerships. Like many other people, I thought it was the same as marriage. When I found out it was not, I decided to make the documentary. And that is when I realised that a feature film could be made. However, I didn’t expect it would take four years to make,” B. Chalupová recalled the beginnings. She spoke to Czeslaw Walek from the We Are Fair initiative, who explained the differences between a registered partnership and marriage.
Petr Němeček, a long-time ŠKODA AUTO employee from the SP/1 – Compensation and Benefits department, also took part in the discussion with the audience. His daughter, Bára, is one of the protagonists in the documentary. The director captured the moment of her wedding celebration with her partner, Klára. Although the celebration was no different from any other, it showed that women experience many obstacles in everyday life because their relationship does not have the same legal status as a marriage between a woman and a man. They explained their own struggle and the complications they face because of their inability to get married. From Mladá Boleslav, the closest places where they could register were in Prague, Liberec or Kladno. They chose Liberec. Although their experience at the registry office was good, they know from other people’s stories that applying for a registered partnership does not always mean receiving a warm welcome there. They encountered a lack of understanding when Klára wished to change her surname. “I was told that a registered partnership was not a reason to change my surname and to think of a very good reason why I wanted to change it,” Klára described. In the discussion, those present also wondered how they could personally support the Jsme fér (We are fair) initiative or whether they had managed to convince someone who was against marriage for all. There are many differences between a civil partnership and a marriage. For the sake of simplicity, they can be grouped into three basic categories. Administrative – e.g. you can only register in 14 places in the country, you cannot have witnesses. Property – e.g. you are not entitled to a widow’s pension. And differences in the legal relationship to children. Although the child is being raised by both parents, only one parent has a legal relationship to the child.

Clean footprint
A successful project of the ŠKODA AUTO Foundation reduces the carbon footprint of the residents of all the regions where the carmaker operates
hared bikes and e-bikes are considered environmentally friendly means of transport when they replace driving. The users of shared bikes are not only relieving road traffic but also reducing their carbon footprint compared with car transport. This is one of the reasons why the ŠKODA AUTO Foundation has long supported the bike-sharing project. Now, it does it in all the regions where the carmaker operates. “We see shared bikes as a symbol of alternative urban mobility that also supports a healthy lifestyle, and we would like to continue to focus on this in the future,” says Ladislav Kučera, Director of the ŠKODA AUTO Endowment Fund. The pilot operation in Mladá Boleslav began in 2019 after an agreement with partners and was fully directed by the foundation. “Now, we’re in our third season here, and shared bikes are an essential alternative for commuting and leisure rides in Mladá Boleslav and the surrounding area. After Mladá Boleslav, we have also started a bike-sharing project in Kosmonosy, Mnichovo Hradiště, and Bakov nad Jizerou,” adds L. Kučera.
The foundation is launching its bike-sharing project in Vrchlabí and will cover all the regions where the carmaker operates.
Mladá Boleslav was also the inspiration for the Rychnov region last year, when the residents of Rychnov nad Kněžnou, Kvasiny and Solnice had 14 racks where they could rent and safely return the total of 40 shared bikes. The project will continue in the region this year but will only be available at the gates of the ŠKODA AUTO plant in Kvasiny and in Rychnov nad Kněžnou, where three new stations will be added: U stadionu, Lipovka and Pivovar.
In May, the Vrchlabí region will also be added to the regions where the shared bikes will serve their residents. The town’s residents will have 40 bikes at their disposal for a trial period of six months. The entire project will be fully managed by the foundation. As in the other regions, the first 15 minutes of the ride will be free for the users. ED

New Biotope Near the Main Plant
ŠKODA AUTO Foundation initiates major transformation in Kosmonosy
formerly closed swimming pool and its surroundings are gradually being transformed into an interesting place for recreation and sports on a national scale. It will include a unique (self-cleaning) biotopical swimming pool, along with numerous play elements for both young and senior visitors. The small swimming pool will be designed as a purely regenerative zone without the possibility of swimming. The large pool will be divided into a wading pool, a non-swimming area and a swimming area. The two water areas will be visually connected through vegetation. The ŠKODA AUTO Foundation has contributed CZK 6.7 million to the project. The plan is also to make the adjacent field accessible and connect the area with the neighbouring village of Bradlec. A nature trail for children will also be created. Kosmonosy and Bradlec are poised to bring their activities closer together to create a centre of social, sporting and cultural life.
Work began at the site last year, when it needed to be cleaned up. Nothing had been done there for decades. Now, the site is being finalised for habitat, reclamation and general landscaping. Preparation is underway for the second stage, when the meadow will be reclaimed, and the area will be fenced off. On 30 April, an entertainment and education afternoon will be held at the site, and the site will be officially opened, but the biotope will open to the public at the end of June. ED

Shake and Test Thoroughly
How a new workstation, which is called a shaker, works at the Kvasiny plant to reduce noise
T he new testing facility has been in operation at Kvasiny since last December. It allows a car to be vibrated according to set parameters and simulate driving on different types of surfaces. The aim is to detect possible unwanted noise sources in the car. The shaker in Kvasiny complements a similar facility in Mladá Boleslav. It improves working conditions during testing and speeds up testing and analysing of pre-series and series cars In addition it saves the cost of special transport when testing projects or cars that are subject to secrecy. The installation of the facility fits with the Quality department’s new transformation strategy, which receives strong support from Florian Weymar, Head of GQ – Quality Management. ED

1. Pořadatel Soutěže
Společnost ŠKODA AUTO a.s., se sídlem tř. Václava Klementa 869, Mladá Boleslav II, 293 01 Mladá Boleslav, IČO: 00177041, zapsaná v obchodním rejstříku vedeném Městským soudem v Praze pod sp. zn. B 332 (dále jen „Pořadatel“), pořádá tuto čtenářskou soutěž (dále jen „Soutěž“), jejíž postup a podmínky upravují tato pravidla (dále jen „Pravidla“).
2. Doba trvání soutěže
Soutěž probíhá v době od 29. 4. 2022 do 17. 5. 2022 (dále jen „Doba soutěže“).
3. Soutěžící
Soutěže se může účastnit každý čtenář zaměstnaneckých novin ŠKODA Mobil, který v Době soutěže vyplní kvíz a své odpovědi zašle na e-mailovou adresu skoda.mobil@skoda-auto.cz (dále jen „Soutěžící“). Soutěžící se zavazuje uvádět v soutěžní registraci pouze pravdivé údaje.
Soutěžící mladší 18 let se mohou Soutěže zúčastnit pouze se souhlasem svého zákonného zástupce, který je povinen se na žádost Pořadateli prokázat.
Ze Soutěže jsou vyloučeni zaměstnanci útvaru GK/1 jako organizátora soutěže a osoby těmto osobám blízké podle § 22 zákona č. 89/2012 Sb., občanský zákoník, ve znění pozdějších předpisů.
4. Princip Soutěže
Úkolem soutěžícího je zodpovědět otázky v kvízu, který Pořadatel zveřejní v tištěné verzi zaměstnaneckých novin ŠKODA Mobil (vydání Květen 2022), nebo v online verzi novin téhož vydání na webové adrese www.skodamobil.cz. Zodpovězením otázek se rozumí odeslání odpovědí na kvízové otázky na e-mailovou adresu skoda.mobil@skoda-auto.cz. Každý soutěžící může odeslat své odpovědi za Dobu soutěže jen jednou. Ze správných odpovědí budou vylosovány 3 výherci (dále jen „Výherce“).
5. Výhra v Soutěži
Výhrou jsou následující ceny:

6. Kontaktování Výherce a podmínky čerpání výhry
Pořadatel bude Výherce informovat o výhře zejména telefonicky/písemně na kontaktní telefonní číslo / e-mailovou adresu, které Soutěžící uvedl v e-mailu se svými odpověďmi, a to nejpozději do 14 dnů od ukončení Soutěže. S Výhercem se Pořadatel následně dohodne na způsobu předání Výhry. Standardní způsob předání výhry je osobní předání. Podmínkou předání výhry je podpis předávacího protokolu nebo potvrzení o převzetí ze strany Výherce.
Výhru není možné alternativně vyplatit v hotovosti ani v jiném plnění. Výhra není soudně vymahatelná. Poskytovatelem výhry je Pořadatel. Pořadatel nenese žádnou odpovědnost za jakákoliv rizika a závazky související s užíváním výhry. Pořadatel si rovněž vyhrazuje právo výměny výhry za výhru, která je odpovídající náhradou.
V případě, že Výherce výhru nepřevezme osobně ve sjednaném termínu, ztrácí na výhru nárok a výhra propadne, aniž by Výherci vznikl nárok na jakoukoliv kompenzaci ze strany Pořadatele.
7. Pravidla ochrany osobních údajů (v souladu s GDPR 2016/679)
Vyplněním kvízu a zasláním odpovědí na výše uvedenou e-mailovou adresu Soutěžící vědomě a dobrovolně souhlasí s Pravidly soutěže (viz tento dokument), což znamená:
– zařazení do soutěže a příslušné evidence Soutěžících;
– zasílání informačních e-mailů týkajících se této Soutěže;
– případné zveřejnění jeho osobních údajů v rozsahu jméno a útvar na výherní listině.
Osobní údaje budou uchovávány pouze pro potřebu Soutěže a nebudou využívány k marketingovým účelům.
Osobní údaje se zpracovávají po dobu od jejich poskytnutí v rámci Soutěže až do vyhlášení výsledků Soutěže, maximálně však na 1 rok od jejich poskytnutí. Osobní údaje jsou od Soutěžícího získávány na základě pravdivě vyplněného registračního e-mailu (e-mail se správnými odpověďmi zaslaný na skoda.mobil@skoda-auto.cz). Osobní údaje Soutěžícího budou zpracovány ve výše uvedeném rozsahu v elektronické databázi správce osobních údajů, popř. zpracovatelem, se kterým správce osobních údajů (Pořadatel) uzavře příslušnou smlouvu.
Požádá-li Soutěžící o informaci o zpracování svých osobních údajů, je mu správce a případně i zpracovatel povinen tuto informaci bez zbytečného odkladu předat. Každý Soutěžící, který zjistí nebo se domnívá, že správce provádí zpracování jeho osobních údajů, které je v rozporu s ochranou soukromého a osobního života Soutěžícího nebo v rozporu se zákonem, může požádat správce o vysvětlení nebo požadovat, aby správce odstranil takto vzniklý stav. Soutěžící má právo (omezení zpracování, oprava osobních údajů, doplnění nebo likvidace osobních údajů, podání stížnosti) se obracet na správce na: DPoffice@skoda-auto.cz.

8. Ostatní ustanovení
Pořadatel neodpovídá za přímé či nepřímé škody v souvislosti s účastí v Soutěži. Nebezpečí škody na výhře přechází na Výherce okamžikem předání výhry Výherci. Pořadatel není odpovědný za jakékoli technické problémy vzniklé při přenosu dat elektronickými prostředky.
Pořadatel si vyhrazuje právo bez udání důvodu vyloučit Soutěžícího, jehož chování či jednání vykazuje známky nekalého či podvodného jednání. Osoby nesplňující podmínky účasti v Soutěži nebo jednající v rozporu s Pravidly Soutěže nebudou do Soutěže zařazeny. I pokud taková osoba splní některé podmínky pro získání výhry, např. v důsledku nepravdivých informací, které poskytla, nestává se Výhercem a nemá nárok na výhru. Výhra bude v takovém případě předána dalšímu Soutěžícímu v pořadí. Soutěžící bude vyloučen v případě, že Pořadatel zjistí nebo bude mít oprávněné podezření na spáchání podvodného nebo nekalého jednání ze strany některého ze Soutěžících či jiné osoby, která dopomohla danému Soutěžícímu k získání Výhry.
Pořadatel si vyhrazuje právo i bez uvedení důvodů Dobu soutěže zkrátit, Soutěž přerušit nebo zrušit či změnit její Pravidla, a to i bez udělení výhry a bez poskytnutí náhrad. Pořadatel si rovněž vyhrazuje právo nahradit ohlášenou výhru předmětem podobného typu a odpovídající hodnoty a upravit podmínky předání výhry v případě, že výhra nebude poskytnuta způsobem umožňujícím předání výhry vítězům v souladu s těmito Pravidly.
Pořadatel má právo konečného rozhodnutí ve všech záležitostech Soutěže včetně rozhodnutí o neudělení výhry v Soutěži a také si vyhrazuje právo konečného posouzení splnění či nesplnění podmínek stanovených pro získání výhry v Soutěži. Výhru nezískají ti Soutěžící, kteří nesplní byť jen okrajově či částečně stanovené podmínky pro získání výhry. Pořadatel tímto nepřebírá vůči Soutěžícím žádné jiné závazky, a tito nemají nárok na jakákoliv jiná plnění ze strany Pořadatele než uvedená v těchto Pravidlech.
V případě, že dojde ke změnám podmínek a Pravidel Soutěže, bude toto učiněno písemně ve formě aktualizace těchto Pravidel. Aktuální verze těchto Pravidel je v plném znění dostupná na www.skodamobil.cz. Soutěžící nemá právo na náhradu nákladů spojených s účastí v Soutěži, a to ani v případě změny těchto Pravidel.
Tato Pravidla jsou platná a účinná ode dne 29. 04. 2022.

1. Pořadatel Soutěže
Společnost ŠKODA AUTO a.s., se sídlem tř. Václava Klementa 869, Mladá Boleslav II, 293 01 Mladá Boleslav, IČO: 00177041, zapsaná v obchodním rejstříku vedeném Městským soudem v Praze pod sp. zn. B 332 (dále jen „Pořadatel“), pořádá tuto čtenářskou soutěž (dále jen „Soutěž“), jejíž postup a podmínky upravují tato pravidla (dále jen „Pravidla“).
2. Doba trvání soutěže
Soutěž probíhá v době od 27. 08. 2021 do 20. 09. 2021 (dále jen „Doba soutěže“).
3. Soutěžící
Soutěže se může účastnit každý čtenář zaměstnaneckých novin ŠKODA Mobil, který v Době soutěže vyplní kvíz a své odpovědi zašle na e-mailovou adresu skoda.mobil@skoda-auto.cz (dále jen „Soutěžící“). Soutěžící se zavazuje uvádět v soutěžní registraci pouze pravdivé údaje.
Soutěžící mladší 18 let se mohou Soutěže zúčastnit pouze se souhlasem svého zákonného zástupce, který je povinen se na žádost Pořadateli prokázat.
Ze Soutěže jsou vyloučeni zaměstnanci útvaru GK/1 jako organizátora soutěže a osoby těmto osobám blízké podle § 22 zákona č. 89/2012 Sb., občanský zákoník, ve znění pozdějších předpisů.
4. Princip Soutěže
Úkolem soutěžícího je zodpovědět otázky v kvízu, který Pořadatel zveřejní v tištěné verzi zaměstnaneckých novin ŠKODA Mobil (vydání Září 2021), nebo v online verzi novin téhož vydání na webové adrese www.skodamobil.cz. Zodpovězením otázek se rozumí odeslání odpovědí na kvízové otázky na e-mailovou adresu skoda.mobil@skoda-auto.cz. Každý soutěžící může odeslat své odpovědi za Dobu soutěže jen jednou. Ze správných odpovědí budou vylosováni 5 výherců (dále jen „Výherce“).
5. Výhra v Soutěži
Výhrou jsou následující ceny:

6. Kontaktování Výherce a podmínky čerpání výhry
Pořadatel bude Výherce informovat o výhře zejména telefonicky/písemně na kontaktní telefonní číslo / e-mailovou adresu, které Soutěžící uvedl v e-mailu se svými odpověďmi, a to nejpozději do 14 dnů od ukončení Soutěže. S Výhercem se Pořadatel následně dohodne na způsobu předání Výhry. Standardní způsob předání výhry je osobní předání. Podmínkou předání výhry je podpis předávacího protokolu nebo potvrzení o převzetí ze strany Výherce.
Výhru není možné alternativně vyplatit v hotovosti ani v jiném plnění. Výhra není soudně vymahatelná. Poskytovatelem výhry je Pořadatel. Pořadatel nenese žádnou odpovědnost za jakákoliv rizika a závazky související s užíváním výhry. Pořadatel si rovněž vyhrazuje právo výměny výhry za výhru, která je odpovídající náhradou.
V případě, že Výherce výhru nepřevezme osobně ve sjednaném termínu, ztrácí na výhru nárok a výhra propadne, aniž by Výherci vznikl nárok na jakoukoliv kompenzaci ze strany Pořadatele.
7. Pravidla ochrany osobních údajů (v souladu s GDPR 2016/679)
Vyplněním kvízu a zasláním odpovědí na výše uvedenou e-mailovou adresu Soutěžící vědomě a dobrovolně souhlasí s Pravidly soutěže (viz tento dokument), což znamená:
– zařazení do soutěže a příslušné evidence Soutěžících;
– zasílání informačních e-mailů týkajících se této Soutěže;
– případné zveřejnění jeho osobních údajů v rozsahu jméno a útvar na výherní listině.
Osobní údaje budou uchovávány pouze pro potřebu Soutěže a nebudou využívány k marketingovým účelům.

Výrazně přepracovaný je u nového soutěžního speciálu FABIA Rally2 tzv. scoop, tedy otvor nad čelním sklem, který směřuje čerstvý vzduch do kabiny.

Dalším výrazným aerodynamickým prvkem je zadní křídlo, které je výrazně větší než u sériové verze.

Automat na výdej režijního materiálu stojí přímo před dílnou v kvasinské Svařovně.
O jeho provoz se stará dodavatel, který do něj také doplňuje zboží.
Zaměstnanci se k automatu přihlásí svou MFA kartou a vyberou si z nabídky položek, která je přizpůsobená jejich pracovní pozici.
Materiál tak mají pracovníci po ruce, kdykoliv ho potřebují.

While the test equipment may vibrate the car randomly, in most cases, the tests are based on data taken on real-world tracks – on regular public roads or on a test polygon on the carmaker’s premises. “These captured data allow us to replicate unwanted sounds that occur, for example, at a specific location on a given test track,” says Róbert Schmögner, Head of GQK-1 – Car Measurement, Testing, Vehicle Analysing.
For use on the shaker, the data still require some adjustments. “Sometimes, there is not quite a 100% correlation between the captured data and the resulting vibrations on the test unit. It is necessary to adjust the data so that the test unit ends up vibrating with the car as it would in reality,” explains Miroslav Preclík, a driving noise specialist from the GQK-1/2 – Vehicle Function Testing department. Verification measurements are, therefore, also carried out to determine whether the shaker “shakes” the car the same way as the test track.
With the data prepared, the car is ready for action. The car drives onto the shaker’s ramp, which is located in a special soundproof room. The design of the building takes into account the facility’s vibrations and is structurally adjusted accordingly so that the vibrations are not transmitted any further. The soundproofing is done with acoustic wall cladding. The test ramps have a comfort function for subsequent comfortable car boarding during testing.
Two excitation units, which are anchored to two points on the body, vibrate with the car during the test. They have electromagnetic actuators, which can exert a force of up to 8,000 N and have a range of motion of 12.5 mm. The facility can operate in the frequency range of between 5 and 200 Hz; the forces, deflections and their frequency then simulate the car driving along the selected route.
The test course is evaluated by an expert noise technician. He sits in the car and listens for unwanted sounds during the test. He can rely on his own hearing, but he also has an electronic stethoscope that he can use to examine the source of the noise more accurately.
Another of the aids available in the test laboratory is an acoustic camera equipped with 64 directional microphones. They capture the sound, the camera captures the image, and the noise source visualisations are displayed in the background. The result is a colour noise map that easily reveals the unwanted sound sources and their intensity. The acoustic camera can be used both outside and inside the car.
Shaker tests have a lot of advantages. The basic one is that unwanted noise can be examined repeatedly. “We can vibrate the car, for example, only in the part of the recorded data where we have detected the noise,” says R. Schmögner. Another advantage is the possibility of testing cars that are subject to secrecy. And, of course, the tests can be carried out in any type of weather. In addition, 100% repeatability of the tests is ensured, for example when the generational status of parts changes.

Launching a new era in India
Four metres is a critical threshold in the Indian automobile market and its segment with this maximum length accounts for nearly 30%. Škoda Auto is entering this segment with the new compact SUV, the Kylaq, which is developed and manufactured in India specifically to cater to the preferences of local customers. This launch follows the earlier introductions of the Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan.
Conquering the French market
More than half a million visitors flocked to the Paris Motor Show in October, where global carmakers were in attendance. The Škoda Auto stand featured the new electric Elroq, which garnered much attention. Other cars from Škoda’s portfolio were also on display, including a specially modified fourth-generation Superb for the Tour de France race director and the Fabia RS Rally2 competition special.
Reducing software complexity
The second of the Brand Group Core’s six strategic packages is titled Reducing Complexity and focuses primarily on software. The increasing number of drives and assistance systems and the integration of other vehicle functions have led to a complex array of software variants. The aim of reducing the number of software variants is to decrease costs and enhance cybersecurity.
A look inside the battery
The new tomography centre in Hall M6 allows for non-destructive testing of the quality of MEB’s electric platform batteries. Škoda Auto inaugurated this state-of-the-art facility in June this year, and there may not be another facility like it in any other carmaker. Historically, the industry has employed computed tomography technology, or CT scanning, mainly for smaller parts.
Zahájení nové éry v Indii
Čtyři metry jsou na indickém automobilovém trhu klíčovou hranicí. Segment vozů s touto maximální délkou na něm tvoří téměř 30 % a dál rychle roste. Proto do něj Škoda Auto zamířila s novinkou, kompaktním SUV Kylaq vyráběným v Indii speciálně podle preferencí tamních zákazníků. Navazuje tak na dříve uvedené SUV Kushaq a sedan Slavia, které jsou rovněž vyvinuté speciálně pro indický trh.
Dobývání francouzského trhu
Více než půl milionu návštěvníků zamířilo v říjnu na Paris Motor Show, kde se prezentovaly světové automobilky, včetně značky Škoda. V její expozici zabírající téměř 600 m2 byl ve středu pozornosti nejnovější elektrický model Elroq. K vidění byly i další vozy z portfolia a také speciálně upravený Superb čtvrté generace pro ředitele závodu Tour de France nebo soutěžní speciál Fabia RS Rally2.
Snížení komplexity softwaru
Druhý ze šesti strategických balíčků koncernové skupiny Brand Group Core nese název Snížení komplexity. Ta se netýká jen hardwarových komponent, ale především softwaru. Ke složité struktuře jeho variant totiž přispívá rostoucí počet pohonů, asistenčních systémů i síťového propojení dalších funkcí vozu. Cílem redukce počtu variant softwaru je snížení nákladů a zvýšení kybernetické bezpečnosti.
Pohled do útrob baterie
Nové tomografické centrum v hale M6 umožňuje testování kvality baterií elektrické platformy MEB, aniž by se do nich muselo destruktivně zasahovat. Škoda Auto otevřela toto moderní pracoviště letos v červnu a podobné dost možná ještě v žádné jiné automobilce neexistuje. Dosud se totiž v tomto průmyslu technologie počítačové tomografie neboli CT sken využívala především na menší díly.
Novinkami nabitý Elroq
První říjnový den si v Praze na Vltavě odbyl světovou premiéru model Elroq. Kompaktní, a tedy i dostupnější elektrické SUV značky Škoda. Nejnovější přírůstek v modelové řadě mladoboleslavské automobilky zaujme nejen spoustou inovativních prvků a řešení, ale i svým vzhledem v duchu nového designového jazyka Modern Solid, který se vyznačuje důrazem na funkčnost, odolnost a udržitelné materiály.

On October 1st, the Elroq made its world premiere in Prague. A compact and more affordable electric SUV from Škoda, this latest addition to the carmaker's model range impresses not only with its innovative features and solutions but also with its appearance showcasing the new Modern Solid design language. This language is characterised by functionality, durability and the use of sustainable materials.
Indian student car
Following the model of the Mladá Boleslav apprenticeship, students in India also built their own car. The result is an innovative pickup truck created by combining two Volkswagen models produced under the Škoda Auto banner at the Indian plant in Pune – Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan. The students had access to the latest technology, including 3D printing, which they used to produce the necessary parts.

Po vzoru mladoboleslavského učiliště vybudovali své auto také studenti v Indii. Výsledkem jejich snažení je inovativní pickup, který vznikl spojením dvou modelů značky Volkswagen, které jsou vyráběny pod taktovkou Škoda Auto v indickém závodě v Púně – SUV Taigun a sedanu Virtus. Studenti přitom měli k dispozici nejmodernější technologie, včetně 3D tisku, který využili pro výrobu potřebných dílů.

The Production and Logistics area is implementing a new production strategy. Škoda Auto will now ensure that the development of new vehicles considers efficient production requirements from the start. The aim is to reduce complexity, enhance automation, increase modularity and develop sustainable plants with optimal business results. Conference for female managers
Supporting women in leadership positions is a key component of Škoda Auto's diversity strategy. In line with this, the carmaker, in cooperation with McKinsey & Company, organised the Women Management Summit. The event focused on trends in the automotive industry, the importance of employees during transformation periods and leadership styles that foster an inclusive and equitable work environment.

Oblast Výroby a logistiky zavádí novou výrobní strategii peak. Škoda Auto se nyní zaměří na to, aby vývoj nových vozů od počátku zohledňoval požadavky efektivní výroby. Cílem je menší složitost, snadnější automatizace, větší modularita a udržitelné závody s nejlepšími obchodními výsledky jak v ČR, tak i v zahraničí. To vše je klíčové pro budoucí úspěchy i konkurenceschopnost Škoda Auto.
Konference pro manažerky
Podpora rozvoje žen ve vedoucích pozicích je klíčovou součástí strategie diverzity Škoda Auto. Proto automobilka ve spolupráci se společností McKinsey & Company uspořádala v září konferenci Women Management Summit. Zaměřila se na trendy v automobilovém průmyslu, spotřebitelská očekávání, význam zaměstnanců v době transformace a styly vedení podporující inkluzivní a férové pracovní prostředí.
