Big challenges impact economic results
ŠKODA AUTO achieved a return on sales of 6.6% in the first quarter, despite the continuing parts shortages and the disruptions to supply chains because of the war in Ukraine. While this is down from 8.9% in the same period last year, it is still a solid result. Meanwhile, the operating profit dropped by 24.8% to EUR 337 million (roughly CZK 8.3 billion). The carmaker delivered 186,200 cars to its customers in the first three months of the year, which is 25.4% fewer than during the same period last year. However, deliveries on the Czech market remained stable, with 18,600 cars between January and March, a drop of only 5.2% compared with the first quarter of last year. The carmaker saw a big increase in India, where it delivered 11,600 cars in the first quarter, 265.3% more year on year. During the second half of the year, ŠKODA expects the parts supply situation to improve..

Pavel Hlaváč helps strengthen the image of ZPŠ
After eight years, the term of office of Pavel Hlaváč, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ZPŠ (ŠKODA Employee Insurance Company), is coming to an end. Thanks to his extensive management experience at the carmaker, the former Head of SP – Human Resources Planning has been involved in key decisions for the activities and strategic direction of the insurance company and has contributed to strengthening its image so that it is perceived by the public as a reliable and trustworthy partner. He will hand over the ZPŠ to his successor in good financial shape despite the COVID-19 pandemic and other economic difficulties and awarded as the best health insurance company in the Czech Republic for 2021.
Change in ŠKODA AUTO DigiLab management
Marketing expert Tillman Stauske has replaced Jarmila Plachá as head of the carmaker’s innovation centre. Thus, he completes the trio of co-equal members of the ŠKODA AUTO DigiLab management team, along with Iva Benešová and Jaroslav Pelant. Stauske will focus on the development of digital services for corporate and end customers. At the same time, he will remain at the helm of the VX4 – Customer Journey Strategy department, which focuses on innovation and finding new opportunities. Plachá will take on new responsibilities within the VW Group.

Veterans under castles and chateaus
The crews of 70 vintage cars, including 17 ŠKODA cars, put their skills to the test at the 2022 7 Castles Trial Rally during the last weekend in April. Nine cars were sent out on the 238-kilometre course by the ŠKODA Classic factory team, and last year’s restored ŠKODA 120 GLS (pictured) made its first public appearance. More enthusiasts arrived with other Mladá Boleslav models. The route around the Czech castles and chateaus led through the Bohemian Central Highlands region and also passed through the royal towns of Litoměřice, Roudnice nad Labem and Slaný.
Young mechanics compare their skills
In April, the carmaker hosted the national finals of the Car Mechanic Junior 2022 professional knowledge and skills competition. A total of 63 pupils from 35 schools competed in the categories of car mechanic, bodyworker, car painter and autotronics technician. Marián Poc from the Secondary Vocational School of Mechanical Engineering, which is part of the ŠKODA Academy, won the bodyworker category. The winners of the individual categories experienced a ride-along with rally driver Jan Kopecký, and their schools were then provided with a non-homologated car by the carmaker for teaching purposes.

FABIA wins Red Dot Award
This is the third time the ŠKODA hatchback has won the prestigious product design award, with previous generations also scoring points in 2008 and 2015. The international Red Dot Award jury was impressed by the sporty exterior design and the feeling of generous spaciousness. ŠKODA models have already won a total of 17 of these awards. The official awards ceremony will take place at the Red Dot Gala on 20 June 2022 in Essen, Germany.
Driving premiere of the 1100 OHC Coupé
A unique restored ŠKODA competition coupé from the late 1950s and early 1960s is hitting the track for the first time. In mid-May, it took off at the Sosnová Classic 2022 event, which was held to mark the 45th anniversary of the opening of the Sosnová Autodrom. The event also featured other cars from the ŠKODA Museum and was attended by legendary rally driver Stig Blomqvist.

Digital pucks head to auction
ŠKODA AUTO celebrated its 30-year partnership with the Ice Hockey World Championship in an unusual way. During the championship, it offered 30 signed pucks in the form of digital tokens, so-called NFTs (non-fungible tokens), for online auction. As a bonus, the winners of the auctions also received a physical original puck related to the respective year of the hockey championship as the respective NFT. Moreover, the Czech national team members signed the pucks. The proceeds of the auction will be donated by the carmaker to support Czech youth ice hockey.

New safety level for the competition special
ŠKODA Motorsport engineers have raised the safety standard even higher for the upcoming successor to the FABIA Rally2 evo. They benefit from the fact that the entry-level FABIA of the fourth generation was converted to the Group’s MQB-A0 platform, which is made from high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels. In this way, the designers achieved increased torsional rigidity of the floor and greater body durability. The main crew protection feature is the steel frame, which even exceeds the FIA’s requirements in some areas.

On the Road to Transformation
Michael Oeljeklaus describes how Production and Logistics is responding to the transformation of the automotive industry
Dear colleagues,
Over the past two years, despite all the difficulties and challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the lack of semiconductors and the war in Ukraine, ŠKODA AUTO has experienced extraordinary moments that will go down in history. Following the start of production of the groundbreaking electric models ENYAQ iV and ENYAQ COUPÉ iV, we have also started production on battery systems for the Group’s Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB). Production of this absolutely key component has begun in the heart of our carmaker, in Mladá Boleslav (read more on page 8 of this issue of ŠKODA Mobil), which confirms that we are successfully continuing our transformation towards electromobility. This is due to the enormous efforts of many ŠKODA AUTO employees, which now enables us to produce more than a quarter of a million battery systems per year. We are already working to expand this capacity. And it certainly doesn’t stop there. Our goal is to produce electric components for electric vehicles at all three Czech plants by 2030.
But it’s not just the carmaker that is changing; we are also making changes. To manage the transformation, we need to develop our corporate culture and change our mindset for even better collaboration internally. But it’s not something to be afraid of. The right values have been embedded in our DNA for a long time, and now it’s just a matter of working with them in a new way. It’s all about our Simply Clever approach to solving all challenges. It is still true that we must treat customers, colleagues, the company, the environment and ourselves with respect and care and be smart and pragmatic, open and courageous (read more about the Mindset change project in the May 2022 issue of ŠKODA Mobil). Mindset change is also part of our company-wide NEXT LEVEL – ŠKODA STRATEGY 2030, which commits us to focusing on the transformation to electromobility and digitalisation. A proven tool – the FORCE Program 2030 – is already helping us to do this in Production and Logistics. To maintain our good position, which is based on a diverse range of vehicles for different customers, we will expand the ENYAQ iV family portfolio with additional fully electric models by 2030. In addition, we are moving towards sustainability and CO2 neutrality in production.
So, let’s not be scared off by turbulent social developments or the changes the automotive industry is undergoing. Throughout the carmaker’s 127-year history, we have learned how to cope.

I Will Keep ŠKODA AUTO in My Heart
Thomas Schäfer looks back on his nearly two years as CEO of ŠKODA AUTO
Mr Schäfer, did the upcoming move to the Volkswagen brand surprise you?
Having been at ŠKODA for less than two years, I really didn’t expect to be packing my bags again so soon. But I’m glad that even within this short period, we as a team have started the changes that will make our brand fit for the future.
How did this decision come about?
At its meeting in December last year, Volkswagen’s Supervisory Board decided, among other things, to entrust the very important China business to the previous head of the VW brand, Ralf Brandstätter. As a result, the company was looking for a new head for the brand. After in-depth discussions, the choice fell on me. And I have to emphasise again, I also see this as great praise for the ŠKODA team, which has achieved outstanding things here under my leadership in the past two years despite the difficult conditions.
Were you happy about it, or would you have liked to stay at ŠKODA longer?
I feel very comfortable here. ŠKODA is a unique brand with a great team and super products. When I started, I said that this company had huge potential. I believe we have clearly shown what we are capable of, and we have strengthened the brand’s positioning for this challenging decade of transformation.
Thank you for what you do every day for this unique company – it’s you who make ŠKODA so special. And it’s you who are now leading
ŠKODA towards a successful future. I sincerely wish you every success in this endeavour.
What do you mean specifically?
We set the right course for this company’s successful future when we published our NEXT LEVEL – ŠKODA STRATEGY 2030 last summer. We want to become one of the five best-selling car manufacturers in Europe during this decade, we are setting out to be the leading European brand in India and North Africa, and we are developing our Czech home country into an electromobility hub to safeguard jobs and create new ones.
Does that also mean that ŠKODA will be producing more e-models?
Of course! We are progressively electrifying our model portfolio, and we have campaigned passionately for ŠKODA to introduce at least three more e-models by 2030. They will come. But the plans go much further: By 2030, e-components or e-vehicles will be produced at all three Czech plants. We are already producing high-voltage traction batteries for the SUPERB and OCTAVIA iV plug-in hybrids, as well as for other Group brands. In addition, the production of MEB battery systems for the ENYAQ iV was launched at the main plant in Mladá Boleslav in February. And we are working on establishing a stable supplier structure for e-mobility.
What is the situation with the Gigafactory? Has there been any specific news on that recently?
It’s still too early to say. We’re working hard at all levels to bring one of the six battery factories that the Group is planning to the Czech Republic. It would be very important for us as an automotive location. I expect the decision to be announced by the end of this year. Now all the stakeholders – government, regions and businesses – have to act in unison.
We have talked a lot about e-mobility. What else have you tackled?
We have launched several excellent models, such as the ENYAQ iV family, the new FABIA and the KODIAQ and KAROQ model updates. However, we have not only launched new products on the market but also promoted the future topic of sustainability. That is why we have defined specific and ambitious goals in these areas, as well: We want to reduce our fleet emissions by more than 50% compared with 2020 and produce our vehicles with net-zero CO2 emissions at all Czech and Indian plants by 2030. We have already been doing this in Vrchlabí since the end of 2020. In addition, we have now established a Sustainability Council consisting of six renowned, independent experts. This is something very close to my heart because I am convinced that they will provide us with new ideas and perspectives and enable us to implement our sustainability strategy even more consistently.
How was ŠKODA able to expand its responsibility within Volkswagen AG?
ŠKODA now has global responsibility for a platform for the first time – the MQB A0, which is a tremendous honour for our development team. In India, where we have had regional responsibility for the Group since 2019, we are really picking up speed thanks to the KUSHAQ and the SLAVIA. We were able to significantly grow our business there last year, and the first quarter results look more than promising.
In addition to India and North Africa, ŠKODA has also had regional responsibility for Russia since 2020. What does that mean in light of the war in Ukraine?
We condemn Russia’s attack on Ukraine. We suspended our business activities in Russia, supported our Ukrainian colleagues, partners and families as best we could and quickly came up with ideas and plans to deal with the disruptions to the supply chains from Ukraine caused by the war. At this point, I would like to emphasise one important thing: the pride that I have in Škodians! Their solidarity, unconditional willingness to help and unwavering commitment to make the best of the situation not only helped many Ukrainians but also kept our company on track. I would like to express my sincere thanks for this. This shows that our brand value – ‘human’ – is an essential part of the corporate culture that we live every day.
While we’re on the subject of corporate culture – where do you see ŠKODA in this regard?
A lot has happened in this respect, as well. ŠKODA had a very distinctive and great culture even before I joined the company. I’m referring to the high implementation strength, down-to-earth attitude and team spirit. We will continue to embrace these strengths in the future. At the same time, I recognise the need to further develop our culture so that we remain attractive to customers, employees, applicants, business partners and society. Many Škodians have told me that they would like to see even more courage, agility and diversity at all levels. The Board of Management has listened and is trying to lead by example. The feedback I have received shows me that things are heading in the right direction.
What does this mean for the topic of diversity?
We have clear goals in this area, too. For example, by 2030, one in four management positions should be held by a woman. Therefore, I was delighted when Maren Gräf agreed to join ŠKODA as a Board member. At the same time, we must not forget that diversity is much more than just an issue of gender but extends to ethnic origin, social background, religion, worldview, sexual orientation and age. Everyone is welcome at ŠKODA. I want the company to be as diverse as our customers are. This must be an integral aspect of our corporate culture.
How do you rate the cooperation with the social partner, the KOVO Trade Union?
Very positively. We found a good basis for discussion right from the start, and we have a regular and open dialogue. Our KOVO colleagues and Chairman Jaroslav Povšík have a deep understanding of the challenges facing the industry. Together, we have tackled many issues and raised ŠKODA to a new level. What I particularly appreciate about Mr Povšík is that he does not shy away from unpopular topics like the smoking ban. He is firm in his approach but always fair and respectful. During the pandemic, in particular, he was heavily involved and has helped to guide ŠKODA safely and calmly through this difficult time. I also give him credit for having worked so hard on the vaccination campaign. In addition, we have reached many important decisions together regarding the shortage of semiconductors and the war in Ukraine. Škodians are lucky to have a works council representative like Jaroslav Povšík.
We are now more than two years into the coronavirus crisis. We are still plagued by the shortage of semiconductors, and no one knows what will happen next in Ukraine. What do you expect for this year?
First of all, I would like to thank all Škodians once again for their efforts last year. It was certainly one of the most challenging in the company’s history. COVID-19, the semiconductor shortage and, since the beginning of this year, the war in Ukraine have significantly dampened our growth. Nevertheless, thanks to the flexibility and inventiveness of the ŠKODA team, as well as the close cooperation with our social partner, the KOVO Trade Union, and our suppliers, we managed to steer the company well through 2021 and deliver a respectable result. That makes me optimistic. I also expect the supply situation for semiconductors to gradually improve from the second half of the year onwards.
What else does 2022 have in store for ŠKODA?
A lot! I am looking ahead with confidence; we have launched numerous new products that have taken our markets by storm. Take, for example, our ENYAQ COUPÉ iV. After its world premiere at the end of January, the model received positive feedback across the board from the international press. I am convinced that we will attract many new customers to the brand with this car. At the same time, demand for our entire model portfolio remains high, and we can rely on a highly motivated team. These are all excellent prerequisites for achieving a good year despite all the challenges.
As of 1 July, you will be succeeded by Klaus Zellmer. What can Škodians expect from their new boss?
I am very pleased that Klaus Zellmer will be taking over as CEO. He is absolutely the right person in the right position: He has more than 20 years’ experience in the industry, has excellent strategic and entrepreneurial foresight and is a great team player. I am convinced that, alongside the fantastic team that we have on the Board, he will do everything in his power to advance the brand’s successful development from July onwards.
And what about you? Will you stay connected to the ŠKODA brand?
In my heart, certainly! It’s just great to see how much passion the people here put into their work – this is something unique and inspiring. It’s the people who shape the company. However, I will also remain connected to the brand in my new position, as I will be responsible for the ‘Volume’ brand group, which, alongside ŠKODA, also includes VW, SEAT, Cupra and VW Commercial Vehicles. In the future, I’ll be paying particular attention to the collaborative partnership between these brands.
What will you remember most about your time at ŠKODA AUTO?
I can think of many things! The world premiere of the ENYAQ iV, for example. That was a moment that really gave me goosebumps. Or the many encounters with Škodians – in spontaneous, casual conversations at the canteen or during the ŠKODA Classic Tour, which I took part in shortly after taking up my position. I also found the charity concert performed by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra last June very moving; as the main partner, we had organised it for the bereaved families of victims of the COVID-19 pandemic who were fighting the spread of the virus through aid organisations. It’s in times of crisis like these that the ŠKODA team really shows itself, with humanity and a willingness to help. To me, that was very impressive and touching.
What will you miss most about the Czech Republic?
The people, the mentality, the great cultural events, the high quality of life, the food and, of course, the great Czech beer! [laughs] RED

GQ – Quality Management has developed a new functional strategy to meet the challenges of the automotive industry transformation
tree is only as strong as its roots. This is what the Quality Management employees had in mind when they prepared the company-wide functional quality strategy for 2030. They chose the motif of a tree with its roots to express it. These roots represent the Quality Management employees’ core values, which they named their Q-DNA. The vision and key themes of the new strategy are based on them. However, they concern not only the Quality Management but all of the carmaker’s employees. It also supports the company-wide NEXT LEVEL – ŠKODA STRATEGY 2030 and shares many synergies with its key themes, which are linked to the carmaker’s electric transformation, customer orientation, sustainability, taking on new responsibilities within the VW Group and other topics.
The Q-Strategy 2030 is the basis for the Quality department to maintain top-quality digital and physical products for our customers. With the new strategy, the Quality department transforms itself to manage upcoming challenges.

Of course, the main task and motivation of Quality Management remain the same: to protect the carmaker’s customers, meet their expectations and protect the ŠKODA brand by complying with the standards and legal requirements. The new strategy aims to transform the company’s procedures and processes concerning the future of the automotive industry. New drives or business models and services are coming, and cars are featuring more and more complex functionalities. All of this places high demands on the acquisition of new knowledge and experience, as well as the development of competencies and skills of not only Quality Management staff but the entire company.
New competencies and mindset change
One example characterising the new strategy is the emphasis on changing the mindset of not only the Quality Management employees. The concept of quality is one of the company’s fundamental values in relation to our products and customers, as well as our internal and external partners. The shift to functional quality means that the car is perceived as a functional whole, including its environment. Quality Management collaborates in the development and participates in the definition, testing and release of software and hardware functions. In connection with new drives, it builds up competence and knowledge for electric cars to maintain the highest quality product with added value for the customer.
And how did the functional strategy come about in the first place? At its foundation, there was a diverse team of 11 people. Experience was brought in by the “dinosaurs”, as the heads of the specialist departments referred to themselves tongue-in-cheek, while young fervour and fresh ideas were added by the innovative enthusiasts from the GQ department. They then adapted the draft strategy based on the feedback from the Transformation Day workshop and the comments of the managers and presented it to the Quality Management and the company management. New Era for Component Production
ŠKODA AUTO launched its production of battery systems for the MEB platform at the Mladá Boleslav plant
he carmaker has launched the production of battery systems for fully electric cars based on the Group’s Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB), thus becoming the only production base for these systems in Europe besides Germany.
ŠKODA AUTO has invested more than EUR 130 million in building a new production line.
In the future, the newly built production line can be used by approximately 250 employees to assemble more than 250,000 battery systems per year. In addition to ŠKODA cars, they will also be used in other Group brand models built on the MEB platform (e.g. Volkswagen, Audi and SEAT). “By launching the production of battery systems for the MEB platform, we will be producing an absolutely key component at the heart of our business. In so doing, we have achieved another goal for the successful transformation towards electromobility. I would like to thank all those who have worked intensively over the past weeks and months to build the new production line,” said Michael Oeljeklaus, Board Member for Production and Logistics, at the start of operations. “Our new battery system assembly line for the MEB platform sets benchmarks in efficiency, automation, precision, cleanliness and digitisation. In commissioning the highly complex technology, we have used not only our competence and experience gained over decades but also our highly motivated and qualified staff,” said Christian Bleiel, Head of the PK – Component Production department. “We will take the next step at the end of 2023 when we launch the second stage of the expansion of battery system production for the MEB platform and will produce a total of more than 380,000 battery systems per year,” he added.
In addition to battery systems, ŠKODA AUTO also produces other electrical components in Mladá Boleslav. Since the autumn of 2019, high-voltage traction batteries, which are used in the SUPERB iV, OCTAVIA iV and other Group brand plug-in hybrid drive cars, have been produced there. With the new production line, ŠKODA AUTO is accelerating its business transformation. In its NEXT LEVEL – ŠKODA STRATEGY 2030 strategy, ŠKODA AUTO plans to produce electric cars or electric components at all three Czech production facilities by the end of this decade. The objective is to secure the existing jobs in the long term while creating new ones. By then, it expects to increase the share of sales of pure battery electric cars in Europe to between 50% and 70%, depending on market developments. For this purpose, it will continue to electrify its model portfolio, with the goal of adding at least three more purely EVs by 2030 as a more compact and affordable alternative to the ENYAQ iV. RED

The assembly of battery systems for the MEB platform was an important project from an IT perspective because of the high degree of digitisation, automation and the use of autonomous technologies. To meet the high security requirements, we integrated 16 completely new applications or technologies within the IT ecosystem and adapted another 22 existing systems to specific requirements.

On 17 May, a press event was held on the occasion of the official launch of MEB battery production in Mladá Boleslav. Representatives of the Production area presented the production of battery systems for electric vehicles to nearly 80 journalists from the Czech Republic and around the world. In Hall M6, M. Oeljeklaus and Ch. Bleiel made some opening remarks. This was followed by a tour of the plant with comments from colleagues from PK – Component Production. All the journalists then moved on to the assembly line in Hall M13, where the staff of PF – Car Production and PS – Brand Management guided them through the areas where the batteries are installed in the vehicle.

he new battery production line was the focus of another episode of the SIMPLY CLEVER PODCAST 2.0 with guest Christian Bleiel, Head of PK – Component Production. “If you look at the manufacturing process of internal combustion engines and battery systems, you will find that they are similar in many ways. In both cases, we use a lot of robots, and we already know how to work with them. It’s all about planning, project setup and so on, and it’s all comparable. Interestingly, we also have the same suppliers who are going through the transformation with us,” said Bleiel. He cautioned, however, that there is a need to adapt to working with a product under high voltage. “It needs special skills, so we’ve had a lot of training. But when you’re an engineer, you like challenges; you want to know how things work, what’s important. For engineers, it’s good to have something completely new to take them through the next 30 or 50 years,” he added. According to Bleiel, MEB assembly line will bring new job opportunities, especially for young people, who can say to themselves that this is the future. The daily capacity is 1,500 batteries. This means that about half of the batteries will be used in Mladá Boleslav for the ENYAQ iV and the ENYAQ COUPÉ iV in the coming years, while the other half will go to the VW plant in Zwickau, Germany. In the podcast, Bleiel guides the listeners through the assembly line and describes how the battery systems are manufactured. “The battery packs assembled here consist of 8, 10, 12, 13 battery modules, which contain 24 cells. We have modules and cells from external suppliers, and we have several – for example, in Hungary, Poland, Germany and China. We assemble the modules into a frame that is manufactured in the Czech Republic near Prague. It sounds easy, but it has to be done really precisely,” Bleiel explained. How ŠKODA AUTO trains component production employees in the field of electromobility
he training centre is used to train our newly recruited core employees and agency staff and, if necessary, provide additional training for current PK – Component Production staff. It’s part of the eMobility technology centre (eTC). This training centre was created in conjunction with the redevelopment of Hall M6 in 2019 and is part of a comprehensive training concept. It is continuously updated and supplemented based on the excellent cooperation between the trainers from the PSI-P/11 – Lean Management and Training department and colleagues from the PK – Component Production department. The training currently covers seven topics: MEB and PHEV battery composition, transmission, motor and measuring, as well as current topics and, last but not least, virtual reality.
The first training session was held here in June 2019. So far, 350 employees have been trained at the eTC.
A new training course on traction battery fire safety will be created in cooperation with the SE – ŠKODA Academy. The manual skills training consists of a theoretical and practical part. Employees will be introduced to the principles of occupational health and safety and the basics of controlled tightening. The practical part at the training tables consists of a learning portfolio on the PC where the employee is introduced to the different parts and how to work with them. At the same time, they can watch instructional videos showing how to work at a particular workplace. They will then test their knowledge and skills through interactive tests. The practical part is always accompanied by a lecture and expert supervision by a trainer from the PSI-P department.
The eTC equipment includes virtual reality, thanks to which employees can safely, but in a realistic environment, try out the control of KUKA, Fanuc and ABB robots (i.e. all three brands represented in the PK department). This type of training is designed primarily for adjusters. Beyond the training activities, each of the participants can also get a close-up look at the SUPERB iV chassis and the disassembled PHEV and MEB batteries. ED

The project, which started in 2019, involved the participation of several ŠKODA AUTO departments
he Group’s MEB modular platform for electric cars is a “jigsaw” in which the battery plays the most important role. That is why the construction of the new line was a strategic step for the Mladá Boleslav plant. “Combined with a high degree of automation, the assembly of the MEB battery represents another significant shift in our competence in the assembly of components for electric cars not only for the ŠKODA brand but also for the entire VW Group,” says Václav Hrnčíř, coordinator of the PPK-E/1 – Components Production Planning E-Mobility department.
New technologies
The new MEB battery is a significantly more complex product than the PHEV battery, which the carmaker has been producing for several years. It comes with new technologies, such as the application of a heat-conducting paste (gapfiller) and the attachment of the battery cover and underbody battery protection using flow-drill technology instead of the classic screwing. “We are gaining new knowledge in the electromobility field; at the same time, we can use our extensive experience in motor and gearbox assembly processes. Thanks to this and the close cooperation with our colleagues from VW Braunschweig, we can handle production very quickly and effectively,” says Pavel Šimek, Head of PKP – Platform Production.
Unique cooperation
The project team included employees from the PPK – Component Production Planning, PK – Component Production and PL – Brand Logistics departments, among others. The latter, in fact, proved to be one of the most important parts of the project because, unlike the motors, none of the necessary parts for the new battery production are produced at the Czech ŠKODA AUTO plants. In addition to the construction of the line, the logistics staff had to solve numerous details whose common goal was to ensure continuous production.
A key role was played by planning the delivery of large and heavy parts from external suppliers. The transport of the bulkiest part – the battery container – is subject to so-called kanban recalls. In supplying the assembly line with containers, the principle of predicting the consumption of tubs has been developed so that the material is on its way to the line before it sends the request. The logistics part of the hall was modified to meet the legislative requirements for battery storage, and a new dispatch warehouse for M2B motors was built. The M6 extension, Hall M6A, was then completely renovated and adapted to store other purchased parts, such as battery lids or battery covers.
Major help from machines
The high level of automation was also a major challenge, reaching almost 80% (this figure is around 30% in conventional engine production – ed.). The logistics sector, in particular, again accounted for the largest part, given the size of the individual components, with a process automation rate of 90%. For example, the individual battery components are transported in their entirety to the assembly line by using automatic undercarriages and low-lift AGVs. “As soon as a battery comes off the assembly line, it automatically enters the storage and transport frame, which continues into the automatic warehouse technology. Here, a stack of four batteries is created and then stacked into the racking system by using a rail stacker,” describes Tomáš Kubica, Head of PLL – Logistics Planning. Even the loading into the train with a unique crossing over the road is fully automated. In the future, a similar system will be developed for the transport of batteries to Hall M13, where the production of the ENYAQ iV electric model takes place. The products will head to the other Group brands by rail. ED

How far in advance was the MEB battery production line type project being planned?
The decision to locate it in the main production plant was made in December 2019. After that, it took between two and two and a half years of planning. First, we had to determine the technical specifications and invite a tender for the equipment supplier. Then came the actual planning phase during which we handled the design, ordering and implementation. But of course, it didn’t end there. We also optimised all the processes, which can only be done after the first battery systems have been produced and ramped up.
Did you draw on the experience of your colleagues at the VW Group, where MEB battery production is already underway?
Yes. The equipment supplier was the same one as at the VW Group plant from where we drew all the information. We organised workshops with our colleagues at the Braunschweig plant, relied on their experience, received tips for optimisation from them and then incorporated everything. A year ago, a colleague and I joined the team in Mladá Boleslav to support the start-up of battery production with our experience. This allowed everything to run smoothly.
What surprised you during the implementation of this project?
ŠKODA AUTO has very committed and motivated employees who successfully saw the project through to the end. If we needed to optimise something in the production process, the Simply Clever DNA of ŠKODA AUTO came to the fore. Colleagues from Production, Planning and Maintenance were quick to bring their ideas to the whole process. As a result, the implementation of the new line went very well. ED

A pure electric car is the essence of electric propulsion. The car has a big battery that allows a range of hundreds of kilometres on a single charge, and the wheels are driven solely by an electric motor. Except for recuperating energy when braking, the battery only gets its energy from the mains, whether at home from a conventional socket or wallbox or on the road from fast-charging stations.
ŠKODA AUTO premiered this drive in the CITIGOe iV produced in Bratislava. However, it became a breakthrough mainly in the all-electric SUV ENYAQ iV, which the carmaker introduced in 2020 and has been winning the hearts of customers in various markets ever since. In addition to its attractive design and spaciousness, which is a sought-after feature of ŠKODA cars, it impresses with a range of up to 529 km per charge in WLTP mode. This year, it was joined by its more dynamic variant, the ENYAQ COUPÉ iV.

In a way, this is an extension of the traditional hybrid, but typically with an even more powerful electric motor and, above all, a battery with a larger capacity. This battery can be recharged not only through recuperation and excess power from the combustion engine but also conventionally from the mains, as in electric cars. The electric-powered range is then in the order of tens of kilometres. ŠKODA AUTO offers the SUPERB iV with this technology, which has a pure battery range of up to 62 km in WLTP mode, and the OCTAVIA iV, which has a range of up to 55 km.

Mild-hybrid (mHEV)
The mild-hybrid cannot be charged from a socket but can plug electricity into the car’s drive. It works with an onboard voltage of 12-48 V and contributes several kilowatts to the power of the combustion engine, making it easier to accelerate, for example. The mild-hybrid can recuperate energy and store it in the standard battery of the car’s onboard system, but only to a limited extent. Among the cars with this technology are the OCTAVIA e-TEC, which uses a 48V belt-driven starter-generator and a 48V lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 0.6 kWh. It can provide up to 50 Nm of extra torque to the combustion engine while also allowing cruising with the engine completely off and the gear stick in neutral. The car also starts quieter, faster and with less vibration with this engine. Fuel consumption can be reduced by up to 0.4 l/100 km with the OCTAVIA e-TEC, which also reduces CO2 emissions.
Other types of electric drives
Micro-hybrid (μHEV)
The basic stage of drive hybridisation is the so-called micro-hybrid. The solution can be based on 12V or 48V architecture and is really just a basic stage that enables advanced stop-start systems and therefore, for example, car gliding. However, the electrical part of the system does not actively engage in the car’s propulsion.
Hybrid (HEV)
For about a quarter of a century, the classic hybrid has been using the principle that both an electric motor and an internal combustion engine can be involved – together or separately – when driving a car. The hybrid already operates with a higher-than-standard onboard voltage, and its electric motor has a power output in the tens of kW, which allows it to start moving the car without a problem even in a purely electric mode. The system uses a separate battery, into which the engine-generator can recuperate electrical energy during braking. The battery is also charged by the excess power when the internal combustion engine is running. However, the hybrid can only travel a few kilometres (up to about 5 km) on pure electricity.
Hydrogen drive (FCEV)
Electric drives also include hydrogen drives. In addition to the possibility of burning hydrogen in a conventional combustion engine, it is possible to use hydrogen as an energy source for the fuel cell. In this cell, a chemical reaction between hydrogen and atmospheric oxygen produces electricity and water (water vapour). The energy produced by the fuel cell is then used to power a conventional electric motor (there is also a smaller “buffer” battery to cover power peaks). Although this technology has great potential, it is still in its infancy, and mass production of a car with this drive is still in the pipeline.

Backup for cable harness deliveries
Production of wiring harnesses for ENYAQ iV in Ukraine resumed in part, while ŠKODA AUTO secured their duplication in Morocco
ne of the effects of the war in Ukraine was the disruption of wiring harness production by local manufacturers. ŠKODA AUTO was also affected by the supply disruption and had to temporarily suspend production of the ENYAQ iV. The carmaker worked hard to resolve this situation and was determined to maintain cooperation with its Ukrainian partners, who are doing their utmost to continue production even in an extremely difficult situation. For this, they deserve our deepest respect. “People come first for us. The employees of our partners in Ukraine need an outlook towards the future. For us at ŠKODA AUTO, it is clear: We stand by them and remain loyal to them in the long term,” emphasises Karsten Schnake, Board Member for Purchasing. At the same time, the carmaker decided to temporarily duplicate the production of the wiring harnesses in another country in cooperation with its suppliers to ensure trouble-free production in the long term and to avoid potential risks.

The Purchasing department investigated suitable locations for duplicating the wiring harness production in Europe and North Africa, where ŠKODA AUTO took over responsibility for the VW Group’s activities at the beginning of last year. “For the production of the ENYAQ iV, we were able to secure the capacity to produce wiring harnesses at our supply partner, Kromberg & Schubert, at its Moroccan plant in Kenitra. The first phase of duplication production will start there at the beginning of June and, at full capacity, will be able to provide wiring harnesses for up to 1,870 cars per week. At the same time, production was partially restored in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, from where deliveries for approximately 1,200 cars per week are coming now. The production at both plants will, thus, fully cover the future supply needs of the ENYAQ iV wiring harnesses with a reserve for further parts failures from Ukraine,” says Vojtěch Ernest, Electrification Purchasing Specialist from BC/2 – Purchasing Wiring Harnesses/Safety Electrification. At the end of June, duplicate production of high-voltage wiring harnesses is also scheduled to launch in Romania.
However, the situation in the coming months still promises numerous challenges, including the shortage of raw materials and rising prices. The carmaker is trying to mitigate the impact of this situation by entering into long-term contracts with multiple suppliers. It is also responding with increased cost discipline and adherence to its NEXT LEVEL Efficiency+ programme. ED

Low-voltage wiring harnesses are part of all cars. They form their “nervous system” by connecting all the electrical components and carrying electrical current and information to them. In full battery and plug-in hybrid models, high-voltage wiring harnesses are also used to connect the battery, electric motor, charging socket and other components.

ENYAQ iV Rolls Off the Line Again
At the end of April, ŠKODA AUTO resumed the production of its electric SUV interrupted by the parts shortage
imited supplies of wiring harnesses from suppliers in Ukraine had hamstrung production of the ENYAQ iV and ENYAQ COUPÉ iV, which is produced at the main plant in Mladá Boleslav, for several weeks. By the end of April, however, the supply of parts was restored, and the electric SUV was rolling off the production line again. When production resumed, a weekly capacity of 1,000 ENYAQ iVs was planned, with a gradual increase over the following two months. The long-term goal is to reach full production capacity. However, this depends on the availability of parts, and further developments cannot yet be reliably predicted. The cars of ENYAQ iV family are built on the Group’s Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB) exclusively in Mladá Boleslav and is the only MEB-based model in Europe produced outside of Germany. For this purpose, ŠKODA AUTO has modified the line in Hall M13 to produce the electric SUV and the bestselling model, OCTAVIA. At no other European plant of the VW Group is the concurrent production of cars with combustion engines and electric motors on the same line possible.

Solutions for other models as well
The production of the FABIA COMBI, OCTAVIA, KODIAQ, KAROQ and SUPERB models has also been affected by the wiring harness supply disruptions. In this case, the cooperation between ŠKODA AUTO and PEKM (CVG Group) helped to resolve the situation, and the production of the harnesses could be started with a team of 35 Ukrainian employees directly in Mladá Boleslav (more in the May 2022 issue of ŠKODA Mobil). What led you to work at ŠKODA AUTO?
Even as a boy I was interested in fast cars, so working for the carmaker was a dream come true. It happened in 1986, right after I finished my conscription and moved to Mladá Boleslav.
Were your previous studies also aimed in this direction, or did you have other plans?
I knew that I would be involved in technology. What attracted me most about ŠKODA AUTO was that I could choose from among several fields. I could have worked not only in development but also in construction or as a foreman.
What about your beginnings at the carmaker?
I started as a worker in Transmission Assembly, then I moved to Body Shop Technology. Since I was interested in technology development, I eventually moved to the position of Body Shop pilot hall designer. However, I have spent most of my professional life in production at the Body Shop. I started there as a foreman and later worked as the coordinator of the production, ramp-up and production department. Currently, I work there as a project coordinator.
What contribution have you made to the carmaker?
I think that anyone who goes through different positions and focuses on one company can always apply their knowledge and experience and take it further. Whether it is a new perspective on the same thing or an innovation.
Is working in manufacturing a challenge?
From my point of view, yes. The quality of the product from Body Shop has an impact on the other operations, and we have to work with this responsibility in mind. It is also about working with people. You have to motivate them to perform at their best and be able to build a team that passes on experience to each other. ED

he Strategy Talks series allows employees to discuss the NEXT LEVEL – ŠKODA STRATEGY 2030 with the carmaker’s top managers. The two most recent discussions in May Oriented on the topics of NEXT LEVEL Efficiency+ and the Cost-Focused A0 Platform.
The first Talk was initiated by Christian Schenk, Board Member for Finance and IT. “The NEXT LEVEL Efficiency+ is a programme linked to the overall strategy. With the Purchasing team, we make sure that we don’t just chase numbers, but also change the way we work and achieve efficiency at all the levels,” said Ch. Schenk. He also stressed that after the current crises, ŠKODA AUTO should return to a 10% return on sales by no later than 2025. “We will have to revolutionise material costs, reduce product complexity and thoroughly analyse what quality means to our customers,” said Jan Vyčítal, Head of FC – Controlling department. “It is not about cost cutting in general but rather about thinking efficiently and finding new sources of profit that address customer needs and are based on our innovative thinking,” added Lukáš Mistr, Head of the BW – Value Engineering department.
The series continued with the topic of the Cost-Focused A0 Platform. Johannes Neft, Board Member for Technical Development, highlighted that gaining Group responsibility to develop a global variant of the A0 platform powered by an internal combustion engine provides ŠKODA AUTO with great growth potential in non-European regions. “The VW Group has confirmed that if anyone is to appeal to customers in the competitive A0 segment, it must be the ŠKODA brand,” said Jiří Dytrych, Head of the G1 – Small Product Line department. he FORCE Program’s Capacities and Products F4 and Regionalisation F7 action fields address the carmaker’s medium- and long-term future. Information on what they had to deal with the last year and what their implementation teams are dealing with this year is revealed by Michal Kobzák (F4), project manager of PPS-4 – Management of Production Concept and Investment Department, and Tomáš Danihlík (F7), project manager of powertrain and components from PLA – Logistics Projects Abroad Department.
How did the limitations caused by the coronavirus pandemic or the shortages in semiconductor supply affect your action fields?
M. Kobzák: My colleagues in the short-term programme planning had to react to the current events in the first place. These events will only be reflected in our long-term planning with the passage of time – especially, in our customer sales requirements. What concerns all of us is that we would like to maximise our production and profits in the coming years, so that we could finance the transformation of ŠKODA AUTO in connection with our electromobility growth.
T. Danihlík: Pandemics and various restrictions have strongly impacted the company’s global footprint and the operations of its international teams. For example, the programmes of lectures given by our experts at foreign universities have been disrupted, as well as the implementation of activities within the Role Model Programme with employees from the regions. However, we have managed to move the vast majority of our activities online and today, working in this environment seems to be the absolute standard.
Long-term production planning would not be possible without networking between the parent plant and the regions.
Which goals did you meet in your action fields the last year?
M. Kobzák: We have been working primarily on the transformation, which aims at a significantly higher share of electric vehicle production. We have prepared strategic production concepts, which we develop further. Closely related to this is, for example, the transfer of part of the OCTAVIA production to Kvasiny. Currently, it is produced on the same line as the ENYAQ iV and ENYAQ COUPÉ iV, and the transfer will free up production line capacity, allowing us to increase the volume of our electric car production. We also won the first prize in the competition for the best copy of the digital project with CAPATool, a tool for long-term production and capacity planning, to which a short-term planning module has been added.
T. Danihlík: With the transition to an online environment, we realised that we have the perfect technical equipment that we just need to use appropriately. Thanks to this, we have set up online communication for all regions and international teams, and we have been doing a great job of sharing information and knowledge. We have managed to significantly exceed some of our targets; for example, we exceeded them by 35% in our Role Model Programme.
In what ways are your action fields similar?
M. Kobzák: Both action fields, as well as the other parts of the FORCE Program, are closely linked. Together, we are able to ensure the exchange of experience with colleagues from abroad, as well as from other VW Group brands. We work on digitisation projects, and we are succeeding in attracting talent from universities to areas related to emerging competencies in the carmaker.
T. Danihlík: I absolutely agree, it is all about the exchange of know-how and networking between the parent company and the regions, and we are working on that together.
What are you planning for this year?
M. Kobzák: The need to expand capacity for electric car production is also linked to new concepts for building cars. The actual production of existing electric cars has brought about significant changes compared to combustion models, but there may be more in the future. The production of electric cars may be completely different from today, and we want to be prepared for that.
T. Danihlík: Diversity will be the main theme. We want to spread awareness of it across regions and show its contribution to the carmaker’s corporate culture. For example, through targeted mentoring of women in the talent pool, we are promoting their management skills and increasing diversity in leadership positions. At the same time, we are breaking down barriers between our top management and talented employees who have the prospect of joining the management. ED

ŠKODA AUTO joins VW Group’s environmental initiative for the second time
ne hour across the entire VW Group was dedicated to discussions about sustainability and climate protection on 22 April, which is Earth Day. The #Project1Hour initiative was attended in even greater numbers than last year by indirect and direct employees (who could participate online until 6 May), colleagues in India, at ŠKO-ENERGO and other ŠKODA AUTO entities, including the Secondary Vocational School of Engineering (SOUs). The discussions then generated a number of suggestions on how employees can personally contribute to climate protection in their daily lives, at home, in their leisure time and at work.

Tips from ŠKODA AUTO employees
Among the most frequently discussed topics were water conservation, which includes showering instead of taking a bath, limiting car washing and avoiding bottled water if it can be replaced by tap water. Other savings were found in home heating and water heating, which can be set to lower temperatures. Employees also believe that maintaining remote working at regular intervals will contribute to climate protection by reducing car travel. This was also a focus of the debate, with participants suggesting sharing one car with multiple people when driving to work, walking more often and using public transport. There were also tips for eating and shopping in an environmentally friendly way – by limiting meat and disposable packaging and shopping without using any packaging, among others. Waste sorting at work and at home or composting bio-waste or using renewable energy sources at home – for example, in the form of photovoltaic power plants – were also frequently mentioned. Some teams also suggested declaring meat-free days, limiting printing, switching off computers when leaving work and taking care to turn off the lights in empty rooms.
Colleagues from the PL – Brand Logistics department came up with interesting concrete suggestions. For example, they suggest introducing extension cables to PCs with a central switch so that one employee can switch off all the devices when leaving work. They would also prefer central bins for sorted waste on the floors instead of individual bins at each of the desks. And they would welcome the placement of photovoltaic panels on the parking garage’s roof.
Students from SOUs also volunteered to participate in #Project1Hour, dedicating five minutes in each of the classes to the topic, and they also participated in the cleaning of Radouč and Štěpánka parks. ED

ŠKODA AUTO Foundation supports Earth Days in the Mladá Boleslav region
he topic of sustainability and living in harmony with nature is relevant all year round. That is why the foundation, together with the DDM Ecocentre Zahrada, initiated the Earth Days in Mladá Boleslav, which consists of a number of events. These include the game “Let’s Go Outdoors!”, which has been extended until 12 June and will take participants to interesting locations in the region. Do you still want to participate? If you visit at least three of them and complete the given tasks, you can pick up interesting rewards at the DDM Garden Eco Centre.
An interesting event took place on 14 May at the DDM Za Májem pavilion, where fun games and musical performances were prepared for visitors the whole day. This time, the popular collaborative planting took place on 23 April along the Hejtmánka–Bezděčín cycle path. Participants planted 245 shrubs among the mature trees that they planted on the site last year. This created a valuable green belt. In the May 2022 issue of ŠKODA Mobil, we also introduced you to the project to improve the natural bathing biotope in Kosmonosy. On May Day, an open day was held at the Živé Jezírko, which attracted a lot of interest. ED

Trophy from ŠKODA Design
Peter Olah, Head of the EDI – Interior Design, Colour and Trim department, has been designing the glass trophy for the tournament’s Most Valuable Player since 2018. The design is based on ŠKODA’s emotive design language, with the motif of skate tracks on the ice referring to ice hockey. Thus, the trophy from Mladá Boleslav adorns the collection of American ice hockey star Patrick Kane, for example.

The anniversary of ŠKODA’s cooperation with the Ice Hockey World Championship was also marked by a unique ride. On 12 May, model Andrea Bezděková and presenter Tomáš Zástěra set off from Prague on an adventurous journey to the championship venue in Tampere, Finland. They took turns behind the wheel of the 1992 FAVORIT, which had been thoroughly serviced by an authorised service shop before the trip. The nearly 2,000-kilometre route was divided into four stages with overnight stays in Poland, Lithuania and Estonia. The 251-litre boot space – incidentally, the boot space of the current FABIA model is bigger by additional almost 130 litres – also provided enough room for a bag full of messages for the Czech national ice hockey team. The ride was a great experience for the crew. A. Bezděková, who was crowned Czech Miss in 2016, got behind the wheel of a car that had been created before she was even born! However, she has had plenty of experience with ŠKODA cars. “In our family, we’ve driven them before. I like SUVs, so I now have the KAMIQ, and I can’t wait for the latest electric ENYAQ COUPÉ RS iV,” says A. Bezděková. The journey has received significant publicity in the Czech media, and ŠKODA AUTO has mapped it in real-time on social media.
Record commitment
ŠKODA AUTO first became a partner of the Ice Hockey World Championship organised by the IIHF at the championships in Prague and Bratislava in 1992. The following year, it was already the main sponsor, and its brand logo began to appear on the ice surface and other locations. ŠKODA cars also found their place in the team of organisers. As the championship is a frequent opportunity for the carmaker to introduce new products, the FAVORIT and FORMAN models served as the first on the ice and to cover the needs of the organisers. The three-decade partnership is unique in the history of sports world championships and has also made its way into the Guinness Book of Records.
Ice hockey is one of the most popular sports not only in the Czech Republic but also in the Baltics and Scandinavia,where the ŠKODA brand is very successful and has a large customer base. Sport and the brand are a perfect match.

Breaking the Rules in Good Faith
Current statistics on labour violations and sanctions in the VW Group
aws, regulations and internal rules must be followed by all employees at all levels. The VW Group has now published internal statistics for 2021 regarding violations of labour discipline and the resulting sanctions. The statistics track 111 entities around the world that employ a total of 498,000 employees. In 2021, there were 4,331 disciplinary actions for minor offences in this group and 839 cases of employment termination for various reasons.
Case study
Violations of labour discipline also include the failure to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Last year, for example, the VW Group reprimanded a manager who had failed to comply with data protection requirements. In good faith, he had forwarded all of a job candidate’s documents to another department that could potentially be interested in him. However, the candidate applied for a specific position and, therefore, his application served a specific purpose. The manager should not have e-mailed the documents to individuals who were not directly involved in the matter. Even an explicit instruction that the e-mail in question was to be treated as confidential was not sufficient to meet the data protection requirements of European law.

Celebrating Diversity Month at ŠKODA AUTO
iversity, equity and inclusion are the key values of the company-wide NEXT LEVEL – ŠKODA STRATEGY 2030. They are reflected in external and internal communication and in all processes, business and finance, and they concern every employee. The diversity strategy is also firmly linked to the carmaker’s other strategic documents, such as the ŠKODA AUTO Group Code of Conduct and the Sustainable Development Strategy, and it covers a wide range of topics (see the What We Strive For column). The topics of diversity and inclusion are gaining momentum now that the VW Group, ŠKODA AUTO and the entire automotive industry are undergoing a significant transformation. It is their embeddedness in the company culture that will guide employees through these turbulent times.
Meetup of diversity supporters
This year, a platform for diversity, equity and inclusion was created on ŠKODA Space, and the carmaker is also continuously expanding the diverse community within the company. To do this, the company also used the May events within the Diversity Month, one of which was the Meetup of Diversity Supporters at ŠKODA AUTO. This event took place on 17 May at the ŠKODA Museum and was attended by approximately 150 employees, either online or in the auditorium. The date was not chosen at random, as it is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.
Maren Gräf, Board Member for People & Culture, welcomed everyone with a video message. “Our hearts burn for anchoring this topic even more deeply at ŠKODA AUTO, making our culture even more diverse, even warmer, even more colourful. And that’s why I would like to thank you all very much for that today. Thank you for continuing to push this topic with all your might and energy, so that there is real change, a real cultural change, including on the topic of diversity,” said M. Gräf.
The meetup showed how the topic of diversity resonates at ŠKODA AUTO and how many projects have already been implemented in this area. It also showed how broad the topic of diversity is and that it affects every employee. This was followed by presentations of the various projects that teams across the entire carmaker are working on as part of diversity. Members of the employee resource groups that have been set up at the carmaker and that anyone can join – ŠKODA Proud and Internationals@ŠKODA – were also introduced. The closing was carried out by Christian Schenk, Board Member for Finance and IT, who described his approach to diversity and answered questions from the audience, which could be asked via the Slido app. ED

A number of activities are underway across the entire company to promote diversity. Here is a selection of some of them
Online meetup for parents
Parents on maternity and parental leave also stay in touch with the carmaker. This is done through online meetups where they can learn about the latest news from the various areas and keep up to date with what is happening at the carmaker. One of these meetups was held on 4 May, and parents learned that an employee group will soon be set up to facilitate communication between them and the company. They found out what to do to make the return to work as smooth as possible and learned how to maintain a work–life balance. They were inspired by the presentation of the Digital Driving Licence, ŠKOFIT for Improving Fitness, Soul Matters and ŠKODA Benefits Cafeteria projects. The programme concluded with a presentation by child psychologist Václav Mertin. A recording of the entire meetup can be found in the Media Library on ŠKODA Space.
Parent as a guide to the digital world
The world of digital technology opens up a wide range of possibilities, but it can also become a trap. Parents have the difficult task of helping their children get the best out of digital technology without falling victim to it. These were the main ideas of the Parent as a Guide to the Digital World workshop, which was led by Czechitas lecturers Markéta Ubíková and Tereza Odstrčilová. They explained to parents how to set boundaries and become a good guide to the digital world for children. As in other areas of upbringing, setting an example is the most important. The lecturers stressed that each of the families must adapt the boundaries to their own lifestyles. Parents’ questions then focused on how to deal with the use of digital technologies outside the home, especially at school. The presentation from the workshop can be found on ŠKODA Space.
Transgender Meetup with Lenka Králová
The topic of transgender identity was opened for the first time at ŠKODA AUTO by a conversation between Martina Zimmermann, Diversity Coordinator at SX – Transformation, and Lenka Králová, an IT developer, YouTuber and transgender issues ambassador. She talks openly about her transition, tries to raise awareness, brings the issue of trans people to others and explains that it is not primarily a sexual issue. Lenka also told her personal story about how she went through the whole process and how her son and colleagues at work perceived it. She explained the difficulties that trans people face in the work environment, at the authorities and in the family. She also recommended how to talk sensitively to people undergoing a transition and make the process easier for them. Finally, she expressed her wishes for society to perceive trans people “just as people”. A recording of the entire meetup can be found in the Media Library on ŠKODA Space.
Cycling at every age
Sometimes all it takes is just an electric tricycle, volunteers and a willingness to give time to people who can no longer cycle on their own. In May, students, academics and employees of ŠKODA AUTO University joined the Cycling at Every Age project, giving rides around Mladá Boleslav to clients of the local home for seniors. They were able to see places that they would not have been able to visit on their own. The route led through the blossoming exhibition centre, past the city theatre, through Českobratrské Square to the Old Town Square and back. Volunteers could also invite the seniors to have ice cream or cake or enjoy a cup of coffee.
Retirement is not the end of the relationship
A traditional friendly meetup with former ŠKODA AUTO employees and their loved ones took place at the ŠKODA Museum on 5 May. A very rich programme that also included a tour of the exhibition awaited the nearly 200 participants. The participants who left in 2021 for retirement, early retirement or because of health reasons were personally thanked by Maren Gräf, Board Member for People and Culture, and Jaroslav Povšík, Chair of the KOVO Trade Union. One of the guests was former Board Member Bohdan Wojnar. In addition to the cultural programme, accompanying events were prepared for the guests. These included a viewing of the ENYAQ COUPÉ iV and the innovative KAROQ model, as well as a presentation of the health and company benefits that ŠKODA AUTO offers its former employees.

The 42 Prague Institute Opened its Doors

he for-profit institute, which is part of the École 42 educational network, began operations at the beginning of May. It focuses on training software developers, and ŠKODA AUTO is one of its co-founders. “With the opening of the 42 Prague Institute, we are creating the ideal conditions for the active launch of our company’s transformation and its successful development,” says Maren Gräf, ŠKODA AUTO Board Member for People and Culture, who attended the opening of the Institute together with French Ambassador, Alexis Dutertre, and Board Member for Finance and IT, Christian Schenk, and others. M. Gräf also appreciated the new CEO of the Institute 42 Prague Daria Hvížďalová. “I thank Daria for her excellent start and wish her and her team to keep up their fantastic drive. She has impressed me with her deep knowledge, broad experience even at such a young age and great enthusiasm for future technologies including artificial intelligence. She is simply a very inspiring person,” says M. Gräf.

42 Prague is tied to the branches of the École 42 network in Berlin and Wolfsburg, which were initiated by the VW Group. Their common features include gamification where the progress of each of the students is measured in levels of peer learning combining team learning and independent work and peer evaluation where students evaluate each other. The tuition-free study programme featuring a flexible schedule takes between three and five years, and the first semester will start this September. Applications can be submitted starting in May.
The Institute is sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. In addition to the carmaker, Trask and Greencode are among its co-founders, and Digiteq Automotive from the VW Group and other local partners will also cooperate with the Institute, as well as other schools in the École 42 network.
Career Growth Opportunity
According to D. Hvížďalová, who is IT and AI expert, the curriculum focuses on practical skills while providing a solid foundation in computer science. “Our graduates are fully capable specialists with a quick ascend to senior roles who know how things work and are able to transfer their knowledge to new programming languages and emerging technologies that come to the market almost every month,” notes D. Hvížďalová.
The average age of students in the École 42 network is 27. “Our programme is an ideal retraining tool for people who have experience in other fields but would like to reinforce it with robust IT expertise or change career fields to IT completely without having to go back to school full-time,” adds D. Hvížďalová who believes that 42 Prague will also contribute to greater diversity in the IT field. RED

Modern Project Room
ŠKODA Academy has opened a modern learning space for students and employees
hree former warehousing facilities in the ŠKODA Academy building have found a new use as a modern project room for vocational training for up to thirty people. It can be used for workshops, discussion forums, brainstorming sessions, and student teaching. All this while meeting the demands of modern teaching methods.
The classroom has equipment that enables combined and distance learning and also links with students from other schools, including the Erasmus project. For example, it is equipped with a mobile touch screen, which serves as an interactive whiteboard for projecting presentations, sharing documents from laptops and phones, and transmitting video conferences. It is complemented by a full HD camera and 12 microphones that pick up every voice within a radius of eight metres. In addition, there is a data projector in the room and an Intel Unite system that allows participants to project documents from their own devices (more about this in ŠKODA Mobil 8/2021).
The participants in the training programmes taking place in the project room can also use the kitchenette. In addition, the layout of the entire space can be easily changed thanks to variable furniture. Students from the Secondary Vocational School of Engineering (SOUs), which is part of the ŠKODA Academy, also contributed to furnishing the room. “They repurposed unused material from the pupils’ previous Azubi Cars. For example, the seats were turned into armchairs, the wheel rims and round glass plate into a small table, and the OCTAVIA cockpit into a sound system,” explains Martin Slabihoudek, head of SEB – Secondary Vocational School. Teaching the Czech Alphabet Instead of IT
Interview with Ekaterina Aziz who helps with interpreting and teaches her compatriots the basics of the Czech language
You speak Czech really well, how did you learn it so quickly?
I already knew some Czech. Since I was 15 years old, I have been traveling to the Czech Republic every summer to visit my parents, which is why I took a Czech language course ten years ago. I considered studying here, but I did not wish to leave Ukraine. Now, my knowledge of Czech comes in handy. I still make mistakes, but I understand and strive to improve.
How did you get into teaching Czech?
To get my daughter enrolled in school here, I took advantage of the language courses supported by the ŠKODA AUTO Foundation in Mladá Boleslav. Unfortunately, it turned out that the children did not understand the teacher, so I offered my help with interpreting. There were not enough teachers, so I started to come and help.
How many people attend the courses?
Since March, I have been teaching children together with my Czech friend, Tereza. There are 50 children in the class. My command of the language is already good to teach adults. There are numerous professionals among them whose education is recognised by the Czech government, but whose specialisation and practice are useless if they do not speak the language.
How difficult is Czech for Ukrainians?
Our languages are very different, we have difficulties with pronunciation, a lot of words are completely different, we have more characters in Ukrainian, we do not use diacritics, and we have different genders. However, this is not the main problem. I think it is not important how difficult the language is, but how much you wish to learn something new.
Is learning Czech easier for children than for adults?
Even to them, I have to explain why they should learn Czech. It is not easy for them, and a lot of them argue that they will soon return home and will not need Czech. So I tell them that when they learn a new language, they are training their brains, and it is just like a sport. I explain to the children and adults that in this way, they are doing something for themselves.
What does the daily programme at the Koliba Integration and Education Centre look like?
We start at eight o’clock like any other school, and we do everything from the very basics: we learn the alphabet and basic sentences so that the children can navigate their way through school and everyday life situations. Of course, we assign homework, we have dialogues, and every week, we have a test to review what we have learned in that time.
What is the focus of your workday?
I teach children in the morning and adults in the afternoon at the Koliba. I also work with my students in Ukraine, as there are always online classes for those who are able to connect. And when I get home, I grade homework as well. Sometimes, I do not finish before midnight.
What would you say to your compatriots who are now in the Czech Republic?
Do not be afraid of anything, communicate, try to get involved, and find a job, even if it does not match the one at home. And above all, enjoy every day and be happy that we can be safe here. ED
Ekaterina Aziz
She fled Ukraine from a town near Kyiv and came to Mladá Boleslav thanks to her parents. With the support of ŠKODA AUTO, she immediately got involved in helping her compatriots here, and because she is a teacher and speaks Czech, she helps Czech teachers and runs a Czech language course for refugees by herself.
Educational Courses for Ukrainian Women
ŠKODA AUTO Foundation initiated IT courses for refugees
ducational support is part of the broader assistance leading to the integration of refugees from Ukraine into the society. Therefore, at the end of April, computer courses were launched in the recently renovated IT classroom, which was created with the help of the carmaker and also serves the general public. “We were thinking about how to respond quickly to the current situation, and we came up with the idea of offering this type of courses also to women coming from Ukraine. They were very interested in this offer, and that convinced us that this was the right idea,” says Ladislav Kučera, Director of the ŠKODA AUTO Foundation.
The courses are led by specialists from the Koliba Integration and Education Centre, such as Ekaterina Aziz who taught computer science in Ukraine and speaks both Ukrainian and Czech. The content of the lessons is not only to familiarise those interested with computer technology and teach them, for example, the basics of Word or Excel, but also to help them master everything in Czech, manage the Czech keyboard, and other specifics of the local computing environment. Besides beginners, advanced users have already signed up as well. These courses are for approximately twenty people, they are held every week, and the interest in them has exceeded our expectations.
The newly renovated computer room at the Secondary School of Industry in Mladá Boleslav provides the home for the lectures. In addition to the carmaker and the ŠKODA AUTO Foundation, the technology company ABB and Digiteq Automotive from the VW Group also contributed to the equipment. The Czechitas organisation has also been involved and has already organised two IT courses for the public there. ED

Pořadatel bude Výherce informovat o výhře zejména telefonicky/písemně na kontaktní telefonní číslo / e-mailovou adresu, které Soutěžící uvedl v e-mailu se svými odpověďmi, a to nejpozději do 14 dnů od ukončení Soutěže. S Výhercem se Pořadatel následně dohodne na způsobu předání Výhry. Standardní způsob předání výhry je osobní předání. Podmínkou předání výhry je podpis předávacího protokolu nebo potvrzení o převzetí ze strany Výherce.
Výhru není možné alternativně vyplatit v hotovosti ani v jiném plnění. Výhra není soudně vymahatelná. Poskytovatelem výhry je Pořadatel. Pořadatel nenese žádnou odpovědnost za jakákoliv rizika a závazky související s užíváním výhry. Pořadatel si rovněž vyhrazuje právo výměny výhry za výhru, která je odpovídající náhradou.
V případě, že Výherce výhru nepřevezme osobně ve sjednaném termínu, ztrácí na výhru nárok a výhra propadne, aniž by Výherci vznikl nárok na jakoukoliv kompenzaci ze strany Pořadatele.
7. Pravidla ochrany osobních údajů (v souladu s GDPR 2016/679)
Vyplněním kvízu a zasláním odpovědí na výše uvedenou e-mailovou adresu Soutěžící vědomě a dobrovolně souhlasí s Pravidly soutěže (viz tento dokument), což znamená:
– zařazení do soutěže a příslušné evidence Soutěžících;
– zasílání informačních e-mailů týkajících se této Soutěže;
– případné zveřejnění jeho osobních údajů v rozsahu jméno a útvar na výherní listině.
Osobní údaje budou uchovávány pouze pro potřebu Soutěže a nebudou využívány k marketingovým účelům.
Osobní údaje se zpracovávají po dobu od jejich poskytnutí v rámci Soutěže až do vyhlášení výsledků Soutěže, maximálně však na 1 rok od jejich poskytnutí. Osobní údaje jsou od Soutěžícího získávány na základě pravdivě vyplněného registračního e-mailu (e-mail se správnými odpověďmi zaslaný na skoda.mobil@skoda-auto.cz). Osobní údaje Soutěžícího budou zpracovány ve výše uvedeném rozsahu v elektronické databázi správce osobních údajů, popř. zpracovatelem, se kterým správce osobních údajů (Pořadatel) uzavře příslušnou smlouvu.
Požádá-li Soutěžící o informaci o zpracování svých osobních údajů, je mu správce a případně i zpracovatel povinen tuto informaci bez zbytečného odkladu předat. Každý Soutěžící, který zjistí nebo se domnívá, že správce provádí zpracování jeho osobních údajů, které je v rozporu s ochranou soukromého a osobního života Soutěžícího nebo v rozporu se zákonem, může požádat správce o vysvětlení nebo požadovat, aby správce odstranil takto vzniklý stav. Soutěžící má právo (omezení zpracování, oprava osobních údajů, doplnění nebo likvidace osobních údajů, podání stížnosti) se obracet na správce na: DPoffice@skoda-auto.cz.

8. Ostatní ustanovení
Pořadatel neodpovídá za přímé či nepřímé škody v souvislosti s účastí v Soutěži. Nebezpečí škody na výhře přechází na Výherce okamžikem předání výhry Výherci. Pořadatel není odpovědný za jakékoli technické problémy vzniklé při přenosu dat elektronickými prostředky.
Pořadatel si vyhrazuje právo bez udání důvodu vyloučit Soutěžícího, jehož chování či jednání vykazuje známky nekalého či podvodného jednání. Osoby nesplňující podmínky účasti v Soutěži nebo jednající v rozporu s Pravidly Soutěže nebudou do Soutěže zařazeny. I pokud taková osoba splní některé podmínky pro získání výhry, např. v důsledku nepravdivých informací, které poskytla, nestává se Výhercem a nemá nárok na výhru. Výhra bude v takovém případě předána dalšímu Soutěžícímu v pořadí. Soutěžící bude vyloučen v případě, že Pořadatel zjistí nebo bude mít oprávněné podezření na spáchání podvodného nebo nekalého jednání ze strany některého ze Soutěžících či jiné osoby, která dopomohla danému Soutěžícímu k získání Výhry.
Pořadatel si vyhrazuje právo i bez uvedení důvodů Dobu soutěže zkrátit, Soutěž přerušit nebo zrušit či změnit její Pravidla, a to i bez udělení výhry a bez poskytnutí náhrad. Pořadatel si rovněž vyhrazuje právo nahradit ohlášenou výhru předmětem podobného typu a odpovídající hodnoty a upravit podmínky předání výhry v případě, že výhra nebude poskytnuta způsobem umožňujícím předání výhry vítězům v souladu s těmito Pravidly.
Pořadatel má právo konečného rozhodnutí ve všech záležitostech Soutěže včetně rozhodnutí o neudělení výhry v Soutěži a také si vyhrazuje právo konečného posouzení splnění či nesplnění podmínek stanovených pro získání výhry v Soutěži. Výhru nezískají ti Soutěžící, kteří nesplní byť jen okrajově či částečně stanovené podmínky pro získání výhry. Pořadatel tímto nepřebírá vůči Soutěžícím žádné jiné závazky, a tito nemají nárok na jakákoliv jiná plnění ze strany Pořadatele než uvedená v těchto Pravidlech.
V případě, že dojde ke změnám podmínek a Pravidel Soutěže, bude toto učiněno písemně ve formě aktualizace těchto Pravidel. Aktuální verze těchto Pravidel je v plném znění dostupná na www.skodamobil.cz. Soutěžící nemá právo na náhradu nákladů spojených s účastí v Soutěži, a to ani v případě změny těchto Pravidel.
Tato Pravidla jsou platná a účinná ode dne 27. 08. 2021.

Pravidla soutěže ve ŠKODA Mobilu
1. Pořadatel Soutěže
Společnost ŠKODA AUTO a.s., se sídlem tř. Václava Klementa 869, Mladá Boleslav II, 293 01 Mladá Boleslav, IČO: 00177041, zapsaná v obchodním rejstříku vedeném Městským soudem v Praze pod sp. zn. B 332 (dále jen „Pořadatel“), pořádá tuto čtenářskou soutěž (dále jen „Soutěž“), jejíž postup a podmínky upravují tato pravidla (dále jen „Pravidla“).
2. Doba trvání soutěže
Soutěž probíhá v době od 29. 4. 2022 do 17. 5. 2022 (dále jen „Doba soutěže“).
3. Soutěžící
Soutěže se může účastnit každý čtenář zaměstnaneckých novin ŠKODA Mobil, který v Době soutěže vyplní kvíz a své odpovědi zašle na e-mailovou adresu skoda.mobil@skoda-auto.cz (dále jen „Soutěžící“). Soutěžící se zavazuje uvádět v soutěžní registraci pouze pravdivé údaje.
Soutěžící mladší 18 let se mohou Soutěže zúčastnit pouze se souhlasem svého zákonného zástupce, který je povinen se na žádost Pořadateli prokázat.
Ze Soutěže jsou vyloučeni zaměstnanci útvaru GK/1 jako organizátora soutěže a osoby těmto osobám blízké podle § 22 zákona č. 89/2012 Sb., občanský zákoník, ve znění pozdějších předpisů.
4. Princip Soutěže
Úkolem soutěžícího je zodpovědět otázky v kvízu, který Pořadatel zveřejní v tištěné verzi zaměstnaneckých novin ŠKODA Mobil (vydání Květen 2022), nebo v online verzi novin téhož vydání na webové adrese www.skodamobil.cz. Zodpovězením otázek se rozumí odeslání odpovědí na kvízové otázky na e-mailovou adresu skoda.mobil@skoda-auto.cz. Každý soutěžící může odeslat své odpovědi za Dobu soutěže jen jednou. Ze správných odpovědí budou vylosovány 3 výherci (dále jen „Výherce“).
5. Výhra v Soutěži
Výhrou jsou následující ceny:
3x Balíček reklamních předmětů ŠKODA.
6. Kontaktování Výherce a podmínky čerpání výhry

Automat na výdej režijního materiálu stojí přímo před dílnou v kvasinské Svařovně.
O jeho provoz se stará dodavatel, který do něj také doplňuje zboží.
Zaměstnanci se k automatu přihlásí svou MFA kartou a vyberou si z nabídky položek, která je přizpůsobená jejich pracovní pozici.
Materiál tak mají pracovníci po ruce, kdykoliv ho potřebují.

The battery leaves the factory with the connectors needed to connect it to other parts of the car. In addition, it includes the underbody protection, which is a durable sheet metal covering the battery’s lower part that will later form the car’s chassis.
“The battery goes through all the necessary tests and trials on its production line on M6 hall and is charged to 14 kWh, which is 20–25% of its total capacity,” explains David Bolcek, specialist of PKP/3 – Assembly MEB Battery, TI Assembly department.
On the car production line, the battery first meets a robot that places it on the chassis frame. “It then moves on in the assembly line flow, where further assembly activities take place, by which we connect the battery to other important components,” says Josef Mulka, PHEV/BEV and Foreign Projects specialist from the PFS-M –Technical Service Assembly Shops department. “We mount the cable channel on the MEB battery, which connects the car’s front and rear modules. It contains the brake lines, car communication harnesses, cooling lines for the high-voltage components and the orange high-voltage harnesses. We connect all of this into one functional unit when we assemble the chassis,” explains J. Mulka. At this point, an electric motor or socket to charge the car later is also connected to the battery and other parts.
The result is the finished chassis, which awaits the so-called wedding. This is the name given to its connection to the bodywork. The battery is connected to the body by 16 or 24 bolts all around its perimeter (the specific number depends on its size) and four in the middle of the battery. The wedding is fully automatic; in this case, it is performed by a robot that also bolts the front and rear axles to the body. “In the next phase, we check the wiring of all the components at several stations,” says J. Mulka.
The car is brought to life by an employee using MFT, an industrial computer that uploads software to the car’s control units, including the MEB battery. The computer also checks that the car is fitted with the correct MEB battery with the correct parameters.
When all the connections and parameters have passed the next check, the electric car can start for the first time. It is brought to life by switching on the service connector, after which the contactors in the MEB battery switch on. This physically connects the high-voltage grid to the battery for the first time, and the car starts driving under its own power. After an output quality check, the car is ready to go to the customer.

Sklady závodu nyní slouží jako místo pro balíky oblečení, spacáků, bot a jiné materiální pomoci.

Nové SUV pro Indii
Škoda Auto odhalila název chystaného kompaktního SUV vyvinutého speciálně pro indický trh. Jmenovat se bude Kylaq s odkazem na výraz pro křišťál v jednom z nejstarších psaných jazyků, sanskrtu. Jméno vozu je výsledkem soutěže pro veřejnost, ve které se sešlo přes 24 tisíc různých návrhů. Podmínkou bylo, aby začínalo na písmeno K a končilo na Q, stejně jako u ostatních SUV modelů Škoda.
New SUV for India
Škoda Auto has revealed the name of the upcoming SUV specifically designed for the Indian market: the Kylaq. The name derives from the word for crystal in one of the oldest written languages, Sanskrit. The car's name emerged as the winner from a public contest that attracted over 24,000 entries. The condition was that it begin with the letter K and end with Q, in line with other Škoda SUV models.
The story of IT at Škoda Auto
Fifty-five years ago, Škoda Auto took its first step towards digitisation by installing the first IBM mainframe computer at its plant. Today, all systems – from employee e-mail communication to the complex calculations of the Technical Development department – are powered by servers and computers housed in two data centres, whose power and capacity are beyond comprehension for the average user.
Příběh IT ve Škoda Auto
Před 55 lety v automobilce zapojili první sálový počítač IBM. Šlo v podstatě o první krok k digitalizaci Škoda Auto. Dnes veškeré systémy v automobilce – od e-mailové komunikace zaměstnanců přes řízení výroby po složité výpočty pracovišť Technického vývoje – pohánějí servery a počítače dvou datových center, jejichž výkon i kapacity jsou pro běžného uživatele absolutně nepředstavitelné.
Conversions and changes in production
This year's collective holiday was especially important for the Production and Logistics sector as it saw a number of rebuilds and technology modifications. For example, summer activities in Mladá Boleslav focused on increasing the daily production capacity for MEB cars. Meanwhile, in Kvasiny, efforts involved integrating Octavia cars in liftback and estate body variants into the production line.
Přestavby a změny ve výrobě
Letošní hromadná dovolená měla pro oblast Výroby a logistiky zásadní význam, jelikož během ní došlo na řadu přestaveb, rekonstrukcí, úprav technologií a dalších stavebních aktivit. Například v Mladé Boleslavi v závodě MBI směřovaly letní aktivity ke zvýšení denních výrobních kapacit MEB vozů a v Kvasinách byly spojené s integrací vozů Octavia v karosářských variantách liftback a kombi do výroby.
Celebrating diversity
For the third year in a row, Škoda Auto has proudly partnered with the Prague Pride festival. This cooperation highlights the Czech carmaker’s commitment to respect, equality, diversity and mutual understanding. The carmaker's employees again participated in this year's activities, including the rainbow parade. Like the rest of the festival, it focused on the theme of family.
Oslava rozmanitosti
Škoda Auto se již potřetí v řadě stala hrdým partnerem festivalu Prague Pride. Touto spoluprací česká automobilka zdůrazňuje svůj závazek k respektu, přijetí, rovnosti, rozmanitosti a vzájemnému porozumění. Do aktivit letošního ročníku se opět zapojili také zaměstnanci automobilky, kteří se i tentokrát zúčastnili duhového průvodu. Ten byl stejně jako celý festival zaměřený na téma rodiny.
Elroq se představuje
Zcela nový Elroq bude prvním plně elektrickým vozem Škoda mezi kompaktními SUV a také prvním, který si osvojuje designový jazyk Modern Solid. Model Elroq bude k dispozici ve čtyřech verzích s bateriemi o brutto kapacitě od 55 do 82 kWh. Díky velkému dojezdu, rychlému nabíjení, kompaktním rozměrům a mimořádně malému poloměru otáčení se Elroq skvěle hodí pro městský provoz i výlety do přírody.
Introducing the Elroq
The brand-new Elroq is Škoda Auto’s first all-electric compact SUV and the first model to adopt the Modern Solid design language. The Elroq will be available in four versions, with gross battery capacities ranging from 55 to 82 kWh. Designed with long range, fast charging capabilities and compact dimensions, the Elroq is ideally suited for city driving and trips into the countryside.
Jízda s Tour de France
Škoda Auto byla již po jednadvacáté hlavním partnerem největšího cyklistického závodu světa a bude tomu tak i v dalších letech. Během letošního ročníku cyklisty na trati doprovodil červený ředitelský model Enyaq, který v etapách střídal i plug-in hybridní Superb Combi iV čtvrté generace. Vedle flotily vozů dodala Škoda Auto i trofeje pro vítěze a na trase ukázala chystaný model Elroq s kamufláží.
Riding with the Tour de France
For the 21st time, Škoda Auto has been the main partner of the world’s largest cycling race. This year, the cyclists were accompanied on the route by the red Enyaq director model, which alternated with the fourth-generation plug-in hybrid Superb Combi iV. In addition to providing the fleet of cars, Škoda Auto also supplied trophies for the winners and showcased the forthcoming Elroq model.
Innovation showcase
InnoDay 2024, Škoda Auto’s premier corporate event dedicated to presenting successful innovative projects, drew 3,500 visitors to the Škoda Museum on 12 and 13 June. Attendees had the unique opportunity to explore over 30 internal innovative and digital projects. The rich programme included workshops, seminars, lectures and even exhibitions focused on artificial intelligence.
Přehlídka inovací
InnoDay 2024, největší firemní akce ve Škoda Auto zaměřená na prezentaci úspěšných inovativních projektů, přilákal 12. a 13. června do Škoda Muzea 3,5 tisíce návštěvníků, kteří měli jedinečnou příležitost poznat více než tři desítky interních inovativních a digitálních projektů. Nabitý program dále zahrnoval workshopy, semináře, přednášky, ale třeba i expozice zaměřené na umělou inteligenci.
The world of artificial intelligence
In June, Škoda Academy hosted the AI Open Day 2024 conference, which showed 320 Škoda Auto employees that artificial intelligence is no longer just a thing of the future but an integral part of life. This educational event introduced a new format that combined three forms of personal development and information exchange: lectures, workshops and a marketplace with real-life examples.
Svět umělé inteligence
Škoda Academy uspořádala v červnu konferenci AI Open Day 2024, která ukázala 320 zaměstnancům Škoda Auto, že umělá inteligence už není jen věcí budoucnosti, ale stala se integrální součástí života. Šlo o nový formát vzdělávací konference, která kombinovala tři formy osobního rozvoje a sdílení informací – přednášky, workshopy a marketplace s mnoha stánky zaměřenými na příklady z praxe.
