AUTOMATED CAR CONVOY
ŠKODA AUTO and the VŠB - Technical University
of Ostrava collaborate on automated car convoy
project called ‘Follow the Vehicle’. Its basic principle
is ‘two cars, one driver’. The lead vehicle is driven by
a human, determining route, speed, lane and other
parameters. Data required for steering input,
acceleration and braking is transmitted to the
autonomous car by radio, which follows the lead
vehicle at a distance of up to ten metres. The project
has potential especially for car-sharing service
providers, car rental companies or fleet operators.
NO. OF THE WEEK
We continue to help public institutions
that fight the pandemic on the frontlines.
During the first wave, we provided new
OCTAVIA models to health and social
institutions and their clients. In the second
wave, they were in intensive use once
again. By now, they have clocked over
326,000 km overall. The carmarker has
many other activities marked by the tag
#SKODAAUTOpomaha. Children from
disadvantaged families will receive laptops
with connection for distance learning,
while about 3,000 doctors, medics,
ambulance and social services workers
will get a support package with vitamins,
personal disinfectants and respirators.
We also offer free antigen tests to all
our employees in all Czech locations.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Czech
Rally Championship had the least rounds and
fans in history this year. Despite that, there
was still a lot to see on the road.
In the end, the tight championship title was
won by Václav Pech/Petr Uhel in front of
Jan Kopecký and Jan Hloušek. Next year
ŠKODA Motorsport wants to focus even
more on the support of private teams with
the successful ŠKODA FABIA Rally2 and
Rally2 evo racing cars, and will not take part.
in the Czech championship. Jan Kopecký,
who has been part of the factory team since
2009, will continue as their test driver.
Every half a year, VW Group publishes
statistics showing rule violations and
sanctions. One example of such a
transgression in one of the Group
companies was an illegal barbecue, which
employees decided to organize in the
middle of a VW Group plant. However,
during their teambuilding efforts, they
violated the rules, because open fire at the
Group premises poses a security risk and
is therefore prohibited. In addition, the
smoke triggered a firefighter response
and an immediate evacuation of the plant.
As a result, production was halted and
unable to meet the planned production
quota. The offenders were subjected to
a verbal formal warning and a fine.
ŠKODA AUTO implements processes and
procedures in order to prevent potential
suspicions or wrongdoings related to money
laundering and terrorism financing. Even
unintentional participation in the transactions
that may have a nature of money laundering
or terrorism financing can mean serious
consequences for our company not only
in connection with the sanctions that can
be inflicted but it can also damage the good
name of the company and its perception from
the business partners, customers
as well as the general public.

Some of the sports leagues have acquired a government exception from the Czech Ministry of Health. This allows them to
continue organizing games, e.g. of the top Czech professional divisions in football or hockey. All matches will take place without
any spectators in the crowd. However, selected duels may still be watched on TV or through online streams.
