WHAT’S HAPPENING AT ŠKODA AUTO
Letter to employees
about the 2020 variable bonus
Dear colleagues,
we would like to inform you that negotiations between the ŠKODA AUTO management and the KOVO Trade Union regarding the variable bonus for tariff employees for the economic results of 2020 were successfully concluded. According to the calculation agreed, the variable part of the corporate bonus amounts to CZK 33,661. Based on the negotiations with the KOVO Trade Union, this amount was rounded up to CZK 34,000. Both parties are aware that the pandemic has placed additional demands on all employees. The safety and hygiene measures that have been introduced have an impact on the work of all employees and require a greater degree of commitment and discipline. At the same time, employees were unable to use a number of benefits in 2020 that should, under normal circumstances, be provided to them based on the agreement between the company and the KOVO Trade Union. As a result, ŠKODA AUTO and the KOVO Trade Union agreed on an additional lump sum of CZK 6,000. The total amount of CZK 40,000 will be paid out to each tariff employee in May 2021 as part of the salary for April, provided that they are entitled to full payment according to the agreed rules. We would also like to remind you that because of the last tariff agreement, which was concluded for two years, all tariffs will be increased by CZK 2,000 with effect from 1 April 2021.

Top facilities for the company’s catering
The carmaker’s employees will soon be served by a new central kitchen, which is unparalleled in the Czech Republic in terms of the size of its operation, technological equipment and capacity. The new facility will replace the existing central kitchen, which dates to 1967 and was last renovated in the mid-1990s. It will offer more than three times the capacity on its almost doubled area, as well as better, more modern and more efficient food processing, including the production of its own frozen semi-finished products. Construction started last March, and the carmaker invested EUR 22.7 million (almost CZK 600 million) in the process and its kitchen technology.
The new central kitchen produces 35,000 meals a day.
In black despite the pandemic
Last year’s forced production shutdown and other complications associated with the coronavirus pandemic hit the automotive industry hard. Nevertheless, ŠKODA AUTO ended last year with an operating profit of EUR 756 million (almost CZK 20 billion) – about half the amount of 2019. The carmaker’s revenues also fell by almost 14 percent, to EUR 17.1billion (almost CZK 450 billion). To maintain its growth, the carmaker plans to make significant investments in its new technologies – especially electromobility and digitisation – in the coming years. At the same time, it is getting ready to reduce costs, and to this end, it has adopted the NEXT LEVEL EFFICIENCY programme. 2020 was a challenging year, but in the end, it turned out better than expected during the first wave of the pandemic, even for the entire VW Group, whose operating profit reached EUR 10.6 billion (CZK 277 billion). ŠKODA AUTO’s 2020 results and its plans for the future were presented during the annual press conference, which you can read more about on ŠKODA Storyboard.

News from the Group
Emphasis on software
Volkswagen has unveiled its new ACCELERATE strategy to prepare for new challenges in the form of even deeper digitisation, new business models and autonomous driving. It assumes that software integration and digital customer experience will become key competencies. It also includes the acceleration of the electric model offensive: The strategy assumes that by 2030, electric cars will account for 70 percent of the brand’s European sales.
Bet on the Trinity project
The Volkswagen brand wishes to start producing its fully electric sedan in 2026. It will set new standards in terms of range, charging times and digitisation. It expects the so-called Trinity project to be a breakthrough in business models as well. The car’s hardware will basically feature all the functionalities, and our customers will activate them for a fee, as needed. The Trinity project will also be ready for autonomous level 4 driving in which the car is, with some exceptions, able to drive without the driver’s intervention.
Achievements and Trophies

Modernized and expanded crash laboratory at Úhelnice won the Automotive Testing Technology International magazine award in the Crash Test Facility of the Year 2020 category. An international jury of experts praised the laboratory’s state-of-the-art technological equipment. During the design, special emphasis was placed on safety in the development of electric vehicles.
Popular among women as well
The ŠKODA brand has claimed its first victory in an international poll with only female respondents. The jury of 48 journalists from 38 countries declared the fourth-generation OCTAVIA model as the World Women’s Car of the Year 2020 in the Family Car category. The all-female jury of experts evaluated aspects such as safety, quality, price, design, driving comfort and respect for the environment.
Since 1905, the Czech carmaker has produced 15 million cars at its Mladá Boleslav plant. Its ENYAQ iV electric car became the jubilee at the beginning of March. This model also contributed to another milestone in March: 2 million ŠKODA SUVs produced.
Anniversary - 30 Years with VW
Anniversary / 30 Years with VW
Joint success story
ŠKODA AUTO merged with the VW Group 30 years ago
he Mladá Boleslav carmaker is currently commemorating an important anniversary. On 16 April 1991, the agreement that entered into force ushered in the merger of the then-ŠKODA company, a joint-stock automobile company, with the VW Group. Over the past 30 years, this regional leader has become a dynamically growing player of global significance and is currently active in more than 100 markets. This mutually beneficial cooperation with a strong strategic partner has made it possible to effectively develop the Czech brand’s considerable potential rooted in a tradition dating back to 1895. The VW Group, one of the most successful car manufacturers in the world, demonstrated its foresight and determination by taking this step.
Key decision
By the time the communist regime collapsed, ŠKODA AUTO was producing less than 200,000 cars a year and was burdened by the high debt it had incurred while developing and launching a modern concept model line: the FAVORIT hatchback and FORMAN station wagon. It did not stand a chance to succeed on the world market without a strong strategic partner. That is why the Czech government, led by Prime Minister Petr Pithart, decided to privatise the state-owned company, and in the summer of 1990, addressed eight of the 24 originally considered carmakers in Western Europe and overseas. The Czech brand’s main triumphs included the aforementioned competitive car and a qualified, creative and motivated workforce, as well as a tradition of designing and manufacturing its own cars since 1895. Offers were eventually submitted by four bidders. In August 1990, the selection was narrowed down to the Renault–Volvo alliance and the Volkswagen Groups. Following government meetings on 9 and 10 December, an agreement on future cooperation was signed on 21 December 1990 with the winning project submitter, the VW Group. Based on their own negotiations with their German colleagues, the trade union at the Mladá Boleslav carmaker also supported the deal. Unlike its competitor, the German corporation submitted its generous investment plan and committed itself to developing the brand and continuing production of the modernised FAVORIT model. On 16 April 1991, the VW Group acquired a total of 31 percent of the shares of the Mladá Boleslav carmaker for a deposit of 620 million deutschmarks. This was followed by a gradual shareholding increase to 100 percent, which it reached on 30 May 2000.
The brand’s model line has grown to 10 models in recent years
Bet on people and technology
ŠKODA AUTO’s dynamic development would not have been possible without a generous and comprehensive investment programme coordinated with the other Group brands. Hundreds of billions of Czech crowns were invested in the new models, as well as research and development, and in expanding production capacities and building the ŠKODA brand’s sales and service network in the Czech Republic. The carmaker’s Development department has grown from about 600 employees in 1991 to its more than 2,000 highly qualified specialists today. Traditionally, great attention has been paid to developing human resources. The carmaker’s pillars of social responsibility include the area of technical education for young people, but not only at the secondary education level, which has a long tradition in Mladá Boleslav. Since 2000, the ŠKODA AUTO University has been operating in the Central Bohemian car city as well.
Transformation into a global player
Since 1991, the number of ŠKODA cars produced per year has increased more than six times, and since 2014, the number of ŠKODA cars delivered to custmers worldwide has regularly exceeded 1 million. The original three Czech production plants were gradually joined by factories in China, Russia, Slovakia and India, where the company mostly produces through its Group partnerships, as well as in Ukraine, in cooperation with its local partner. In addition to its cars, ŠKODA AUTO independently develops and manufactures components and assemblies, such as engines and gearboxes. It is also responsible for the activities of the entire VW Group on the Indian subcontinent and in Russia and North Africa. However, the company’s heart continues to beat strong in Mladá Boleslav, where the traditional Czech carmaker’s headquarters and main production plant have been located since 1895. As part of its current NEXT LEVEL ŠKODA programme, the successful VW Group brand is focused on expanding its model portfolio to include affordable car segments, operating in new markets for its further growth in the high-volume segment and specific advances in ecology and diversity. Did you know that...
… in 1987, a series of tests of one of the ŠKODA FAVORIT model prototypes with their built-in VW engines of the EA 827 and EA 111 series took place in Wolfsburg? In the end, the licensed production of these engines that was being considered did not pan out for financial reasons, but the positive impressions and the contacts that were made facilitated the subsequent negotiations.
Then and now
Carmaker in 1991
The life of the company and its employees was significantly affected by the reforms that gradually transformed the centrally managed economy into a market one. The one-off liberalisation of prices in January caused a sharp jump in inflation above 55 percent. The loss of the markets of the former Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (RVHP), together with the decrease in real wages, resulted in an 11 percent drop in economic activity during the same year. The price of the basic FAVORIT L model rose from CZK 98,700 in December 1990 to CZK 153,500 in February 1991 before gradually decreasing to CZK 125,314 due to low demand. The increase in prices is also evidenced by the increase in the daily business trip meal allowance of the carmaker’s employees from 1990 to 1991: from CZK 32 to CZK 57. One of the most significant events at the Mladá Boleslav plant was its launch of the FAVORIT in August 1992. Incidentally, production of the electrified version of the ELTRA 151 L, which is based on the FAVORIT model, started in Ejpovice, West Bohemia.

Anniversary - Air Transport
ANNIVERSARY / AIR TRANSPORT
Carmaker spreads its wings
ŠKODA AUTO has been using regular air transport for a long time, including 30 years for its regular service to Braunschweig
lthough air transport was nothing special for the Mladá Boleslav carmaker even before 1989, the merger with the VW Group created a logical need for regular meetings between ŠKODA AUTO employees and their foreign colleagues, which meant frequent trips to Wolfsburg. Therefore, the carmaker began organising air transport to the airport in Braunschweig, which is located near the corporate headquarters. For its regular Prague–Braunschweig–Prague flights, it initially used smaller airlines starting in April 1991: ŠKODA Air in Pilsen and Slov-Air in Bratislava, which provided their 16-seater LET L-410 airplanes. The smaller Cessna 421 was provided by the Czech Aerospace Research Centre. However, the obsolete L-410 did not have a pressurised cabin, so ŠKODA employees switched to TOP Air’s Beechcraft 1900C and 200 King Air airplanes in 1992–1995.
For the next five years, they would travel briefly with ABA Air and then Air Ostrava on board its Swedish Saab 340. After the airline went bankrupt and briefly using the Danish Air Transport carrier’s planes, long-term cooperation with ČSA began in May 2000. The importance of air transport for the carmaker’s operations is clear from the figures of 2019, which predate the coronavirus pandemic: more than 1,000 take-offs and landings of the ATR 42 and 72 airplanes on the Prague–Braunschweig–Prague business service were supplemented by another 75 special flights. Before the service was suspended in March 2020 by decision of Czech government and EU, it carried around 20,000 passengers a year.
FIS/2 Travel Management & Flight Operations Department, which ensures smooth air transport for the carmaker, must meet its colleagues’ requirements for air transport and overall business trip organisation during regular operations. Among other things, this includes travel order processing, advance deposits, insurance, visas, ticket booking, car rentals and accommodation, as well as the handling of the TRAM and TRAM FLIGHT travel applications. The team members also provide their operational management of flight orders or airplane capacity planning. ED
Did you know that...
...the carmaker was already using the Liberec air taxi in 1955? At that time, this service was operated by Czechoslovak Airlines, which provided charter flights for companies and individuals. ČSA had about 50 Aero Ae-45 airplanes available for its air taxi. This all-metal twin-engine airplane was made by Aero Vodochody between 1947 and 1951 and then by Let Kunovice until 1961. It is worth mentioning that the Aero Ae-45S was the first Czechoslovak aircraft to cross the Atlantic Ocean, in 1958.
Birth of the company fleet
The creation of air transport at the Mladá Boleslav car plant started thanks to its director, Miroslav Zapadlo, in 1976, which coincided with the problematic launch of the Š 105/120 models, which had been delayed by a year. The then–Federal Ministry of Transportation actually granted the company permission to manage and operate civilian airplanes, and the socialist carmaker used the facilities and runway of the Mladá Boleslav Airport for air transport. At the end of the 1980s, the four-seat L 200 airplanes were still being used to transport top managers and production materials that were in short supply. Although it is not possible to find out how many airplanes the carmaker used at the time, several airplanes with the following registration marks are known: OK-PFM, OK-FLO and OK-PLE. It is interesting to note that they still fly today. After the carmaker stopped using these planes, Czech aero clubs bought them up. For example, the OK-PFM airplane was bought by the carmaker in 1976, and with AZNP (Automobile Plant, National Enterprise) it completed approximately 142 hours and 120 starts. The OK-FLO airplane belonged to the first series of six airplanes made under the L200A designation. In the Ventil newspaper of 1989, the then-head of air transport, František Malý (the man in the B&W photo and also the current department coordinator’s father) wrote that the carmaker also had its L-200A aircraft with the OK-PLE registration mark.

With full commitment
Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of many of its employees, the carmaker carried out comprehensive COVID-19 testing
o protect its employees and their loved ones from the spread of COVID-19, ŠKODA AUTO, in cooperation with the KOVO Trade Union, is doing significantly more than what the government requires. Within a few months, it has performed tens of thousands of antigen tests and managed the extremely logistically demanding mandatory comprehensive testing. The first round took place from 7 to 11 March and was attended by all employees who were physically present at work. It the event of a positive result, they were then tested by PCR. Discrepancies and difficulties were flexibly resolved and the organisation modified.
29,000
of the employees at the three Czech plants and in Prague were tested by the carmaker in the first round
0.66 %
was the portion of ŠKODA AUTO employees who tested positive during the first week of comprehensive testing
In addition, from 16 March, the measure has been supplemented by providing safe transport to positively tested employees and agency workers to their place of residence if they cannot use their own car. This transport is provided by the carmaker in a vehicle that has a separate area for the driver and is equipped with a respirator and a protective suit, including goggles. The carmaker provides the service free of charge. In the case of a positive test, regular employees who are from outside the Czech Republic (e.g. commuters) may use quarantine accommodation in Mladá Boleslav or Opočno and pay for it in cash or by having it deducted from their salary.
Great media attention
The media was also impressed with the way the carmaker has managed the comprehensive testing. Czech Television, Reuters Agency and Radio Free Europe have reported from the premises of the Mladá Boleslav plant. News about the testing appeared in practically all the leading Czech media. Maren Gräf, Board Member for HR Management, Martin Jahn, Board Member for Sales and Marketing, and Jaroslav Povšík, Chairman of the KOVO Trade Union, met with the journalists in person.
The carmaker has been doing its best to combat the spread of the pandemic since the first wave the last spring, when it adopted an extensive package consisting of approximately 80 measures. Since then, it has invested more than CZK 1 billion in protecting its employees’ health. “Thanks to the measures, only one-tenth of the infected employees got the virus while working at ŠKODA AUTO; other cases arose outside this environment. Statistics tell us that it is currently safer inside the carmaker than in the surroundings”, says Thomas Schäfer, Chairman of the Board.
The carmaker is also ready to vaccinate its employees for free. It launched online pre-registration for vaccinations at the beginning of March, which more than 8,000 employees took advantage of in the first two weeks. Other interested persons can register via the ockovani.skoda-auto.cz. ED
The ŠKODA AUTO management thanks all its employees for their patience, understanding and cooperation. Testing would not be possible without the extraordinary efforts of the people in the testing teams and exemplary cooperation with the KOVO Trade Union.
Questions and Answers
Can I refuse Covid-19 testing?
Government-mandated testing is mandatory. If the employee refuses it, it would represent an obstacle to work without compensation on the part of the employee, and access to the ŠKODA AUTO premises will be denied. At the same time, such an employee would be subject to the risk of sanctions by the public health protection authority. A fine of up to CZK 50,000 may also be imposed on them.
Is there an exception for those who have had COVID-19 in the past 90 days or are already vaccinated?
No, even in this case, ŠKODA AUTO requires participation in the testing, and any doubts about the test results will be assessed individually through the SG – Health Services and Ergonomics department. Therefore, the exception only applies to employees who continuously work remotely throughout the week without visiting the workplace or is absent for other reasons.
Current information on measures against COVID-19
The carmaker regularly updates all the information on the information page, which is accessible from the ŠKODA Space homepage. There you will find, among other things, instructions on how to download the COVID info card to your mobile phone, which provides an overview of all the valid measures at the ŠKODA AUTO plants.

Let’s meet the OCTAVIA PRO
Tailored to local customers’ needs, the fourth-generation ŠKODA OCTAVIA enters the Chinese market
he OCTAVIA model is key for the ŠKODA brand in its largest market. On 9 March, the carmaker presented the OCTAVIA PRO version, which is specially tailored to its Chinese customers, during the model’s online world premiere. The version is based on the car’s fourth-generation model; however, the overall length and wheelbase have increased, which gives the car an extremely spacious interior. The model’s dynamic appearance is underlined by its front and rear bumpers in the style of the RS sports version, along with its black roof and rear-view mirrors. The design teams in Mladá Boleslav and at SAIC VOLKSWAGEN in Shanghai took part in the development. Great emphasis was placed on the digital equipment elements of the OCTAVIA PRO model. They are dominated by the car’s extra-large infotainment touch screen and its 12-inch diagonal. Upon the customer’s request, it can be supplemented with a virtual cockpit that includes a 10.25-inch diagonal and a heads-up display. A permanent Internet connection offers access to numerous online services. The driver’s and passengers’ comfort is enhanced by the front seats, which feature heating, electric positioning and ventilation. Electric tailgate control, which is uncommon in this class, is also useful.
64
additional millimetres have been added to the standard version of the fourth-generation model to produce the OCTAVIA PRO.
78
millimetres is the increase in the overall length, compared with the third-generation model, which will continue selling in China.
1,400,000
OCTAVIA cars have already been sold on the Chinese market.
Top technical basis
The new model is powered by its effective 1.4 TSI engine with an output of 110 kW, combined with a seven-speed electronically controlled DSG transmission. A number of assistance systems increase the car’s safety and comfort. These include the exit warning, which alerts the passengers to any vehicles or cyclists approaching from behind when the door is opened. The car also assists its driver in maintaining and changing lanes: Its digital “nervous system” relies on five cameras and 15 additional sensors, which enable the driver to see what is happening around the car in full 360 degrees.
Sales in the Chinese market are scheduled to begin in the second quarter. At the end of April, the OCTAVIA PRO will also be unveiled at Auto Shanghai. ED

ŠKODA Pre-Development & Design Senior Manager, SAIC Volkswagen
In the new OCTAVIA PRO model, its typical crystalline elements play an even more significant role and create an emotional and dynamic design. The car is decorated with both sharp and smooth lines, which, like a crystal, present an impressive play of lights and shadows. They give the car its sporty, elegant, emotional and exclusive look.
Oliver Stefani
Head of ED – ŠKODA Design
We’ve adapted the OCTAVIA PRO car to our Chinese customers’ needs. Our typical crystalline design is even more emotional this time and emphasises the exterior’s dynamic proportions. It also brings with it the style of the European OCTAVIA RS version, including the classic elements of this series, to make the car radiate both its power and sporty spirit and boast an even more spacious interior. We believe that the novelty will build on this model’s success.

New challenge after many years in India
’ve spent the past 13 years in India, and my most recent posting was at the Pune production plant. However, I longed for a change, new challenges and more experiences. Therefore, I chose the Czech Republic – among other things, to be closer to my family in Ukraine. The local culture is also closer to my own. I’ve been living here since October 2019. For how long? Who knows. Maybe I’ll settle here. I’m responsible for determining the methodology and implementing the methods of the production system. I mediate dialogue with corresponding departments in the VW Group and represent ŠKODA AUTO on the Group committees. I also work with my counterparts in India and Russia, as well as other Group brands, on topics related to production systems. I like working with people on various tasks and challenges. I can’t imagine doing any routine work. I’m also grateful that, thanks to my colleagues, my arrival in the new environment went smoothly. They hired someone a little different for their team – someone from a foreign country, who speaks a different language and is slightly more straightforward.
I speak four to five languages on any given day: Ukrainian, Russian, Czech, English and also German. Sometimes, it’s crazy.
How about my Czech
Of course, I make a lot of mistakes, especially when I write, but I think I handle it well. Thanks to its similarity to Ukrainian and Russian, I understood Czech at least a little on my arrival. And since Czech is already my seventh language (in addition to those already mentioned, I also speak Spanish and Hindi), I know that the most important thing is not to be afraid to speak.
How I spend my free time
I like to go swimming, I play golf, and I ski, which isn’t possible at the moment, unfortunately. I strive to go out into nature at least on weekends. I also love sports, so I’m sorry I missed the European Football Championship – I had tickets to go, but it was postponed. Let’s hope I’ll be able to enjoy all of this again soon. My dream is also to learn to fly a small plane. Many of them fly around in Mladá Boleslav.
Pandemic separation
My husband is an Indian golfer and has remained in his hometown for the time being. We last saw each other in March last year. I strive to see positives in every situation. Sometimes, we laugh that this situation has given us more time for ourselves, so we appreciate each other better
Long list of destinations
The Czech Republic has a great location in the centre of Europe and offers a lot of attractive locations as well. I’ve already been to Prague, Brno, Bohemian Paradise, Hřensko, Ještěd and numerous other places, including several castles and chateaux. Even so, it may be just one-tenth of what’s on my list. I hope that I’ll discover other places soon and return to the beautiful ones with my husband.

Introduction of new automation processes increases competitiveness of Component Production
he PKG – Foundry and Forge department supplies its semi-finished products not only to ŠKODA AUTO but also to the VW Group plants in Chemnitz and Salzgitter, as well as Audi in Györ. It wins these contracts through tenders that are announced by the Purchasing department and in which both the Group’s and external suppliers participate. “The Foundry and Forge have to reduce their production costs to maintain their price competitiveness. Their quicker and wider automation of their work activities significantly helps in this regard. Doing so also reduces the physical burden on their employees and eliminates the potential for human error”, clarifies Milan Adamec from the PKG/3 – Serie Planning. In the past two years, there has been an even sharper focus on productivity and ergonomics goals, and the employees have completed several important projects.

Automation in the production of EA211 cylinder blocks
The finishing works after casting a semi-finished cylinder block used to include a great deal of strenuous manual work on the so-called finishing line. However, many of these activities have been eliminated. The deburring of the cylinder block’s outer surfaces takes place via contour milling with the controlled pressure of the finishing tool, which is clamped in the robot’s gripper. Automatic equipment has replaced the original manual sawing. The robots also help with the casting loading and unloading, while other robots palletise parts at the end of the line. Similarly, they help with the pre-machining of cylinder blocks on the machining line, to which parts are fed and palletised when they exit the line. They also ensure the sorting according to a code embossed on the casting.
Innovations in Gearbox Production
Another automation project has been implemented by the Foundry regarding the production of gearboxes and MQ200 clutches. These are fully blasted after casting, which previously required the castings to be manually hung on their conveyor. The new blasting cell already features its robotic casting loading and subsequent palletising.
The forging cells were improved in the Forge and include continuous induction heaters of the input material (i.e. cut bar), which used to be manually inserted into them. Now, this activity has been replaced by vibrating hoppers with their automated material feeding into the heating working space. “Our projects do not end with this list; for the future, we are preparing steps that will provide both operations with a significantly greater chance of winning new orders within the entire VW Group”, says Adamec. This means that, every day, 350 batteries of three different types weighing up to 700 kilogrammes each must be supplied for the ENYAQ iV and up to 180 batteries for the OCTAVIA iV. However, with such a high supply frequency, there cannot be any sequencing confusion. “We opted for FTS trucks (from the German “Fahrerlose Transportsysteme”, or driverless transport systems – ed.), whose benefits include automatic collection from the gravity conveyor and installation cycle conversion”, says David Strnad, Head of PL – Brand Logistics. “A total of six automated machines transport the batteries. They can supply the assembly line continuously”, adds Stanislav Jindra from the PLL-F – Vehicle Logistics Planning. For the first time ever, such a solution allows a direct supply to the installation cycle without any assembly line pre-supply. The risk of damaging the battery and its handling technology on the assembly line has also decreased significantly. The scanning of the individual batteries before loading them on the FTS truck greatly minimised any potential for downtimes or confusion over the parts. In addition, laser scanners guide the trucks, so it is not necessary to attach any guiding magnetic tapes to the floors. The employees of the PF1-I – In-House Logistics MB I and PPF-M – Assembly Shop Planning and the CEIT truck supplier also participated in the planning and executing the solution. ED
Batteries are automatically supplied to the assembly line at a maximum interval of 114 seconds.

Digital transformation
The processes and technologies supporting production, data-controlled production and professionally trained employees make up the core themes of the first Factory of the Future action field, Future Factory. For the digital transformation to run smoothly and meet the production facilities’ specific needs, the PPD – Digitisation and Industry 4.0 team is mapping the digitisation of key production processes. Last year, it involved 100 specialists from all production facilities who jointly identified their specific goals, strategic projects and recommendations to further develop employees in the Production and Logistics area. This year, for example, they are planning 86 different digitisation projects in the fields of automation, predictive maintenance, support of production systems and the launch of new products and technologies, such as the MEB battery installation.
New education programmes
In cooperation with the ŠKODA Academy, the PPD department is planning its training to help production employees to acquire the knowledge required for their work. This training will mainly include employee courses in which they will master the operation of new technologies, such as 3D plastic printing or production data usage. That is why the PPD team intends to build a new competence centre that will support additional digital knowledge sharing. ED
Since 2018, ŠKODA AUTO has registered 425 digitisation projects in the Production and Logistics area.
Nature-friendly production
The eighth Green Future action field (Environment, which falls under the PSU – Environmental and Work Protection department) has four main objectives.
UEP – environmental impact reduction
The UEP indicator comes with ecological criteria. Specifically, it is CO2 from consumed energy, energy consumption, the amount of production waste deposited in landfills, water consumption and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) for every car produced. Our goal is to improve this indicator by 52.5 percent by 2025 compared with 2010. In 2020, we achieved the excellent result of 47.8 percent. We also strive to reduce our environmental impact in the Russia region, for which we take responsibility.
Ensuring water supply
Because of the lack of rainfall and the increased number of dry days and regarding the expected changes in legislation, we are preparing specific projects for our plants in Mladá Boleslav and Kvasiny. They will ensure permanent water supply for us and reduce our environmental impact.
Go to Zero projects
Already in 2019, we successfully implemented the Zero Waste project at our plants in the Czech Republic. In 2021, we will focus on our Go to Zero projects in the India and Russia regions.
Circular economy
We work with the Group to develop our Group-wide strategy on this issue. At ŠKODA AUTO, we search for and implement specific projects that fall under the topic of circular economy. Good examples are the use of limestone from our new paint shop at the ŠKO-ENERGO heating plant and the extension of the life of oils by filtering them with mobile filtration equipment. ED

Production and Logistics area announces the winner of the first year of the competition
n the spirit of Strategy 2025, ŠKODA AUTO has long focused on the digital transformation of its products and processes. Digitisation and automation affect the company’s increasing number of operations and activities. The growing number of projects has led to the Best Digital Copy Award competition, which aims to motivate employees to use proven digitisation technologies and system solutions to, among others, prevent any development duplication. Using the existing and functional innovations frees up the carmaker’s IT capabilities and contributes to the dynamic acceleration of the production digitisation process. It also helps to cope with the pressure resulting from the increasingly stringent demands to reduce costs. The very first year of the competition showed how much the Production and Logistics area is influenced by digitisation. In 15 weeks following its official introduction in the carmaker’s internal media, the organisers received 22 applications. Fifteen projects were shortlisted by preferences of the heads of the Production department. After the “detective” work of the organisers, who verified the team of authors and copiers for each of them, 11 solutions were entered in the final round, which the representatives of the copying teams presented to the expert jury on 17 February. During their five-minute online presentation, they explained the purpose and benefits of their project, focusing also on the original solution and benefits that the copy will bring to the carmaker. After the presentation of all 11 projects, the jury (made up of representatives of the SFIT Steering Committee for Production and Logistics) voted online under the leadership of an InnoTeam member for the P area. Almost all the teams of authors and copiers were representatives of various professional areas of Production and Logistics and ŠKODA IT, which confirmed their close inter-field cooperation. The trophies and prizes were presented to the winners virtually on 12 March by Michael Oeljeklaus, Board Member for Production and Logistics. Members of the originator and copy teams of the winning project received iPads, the award for the second place was iPhones, and the authors and copiers who placed third will drive in their rented ENYAQ iV electric car for a month. Condition monitoring
The winning project consisted of two parts. The one is Thingworx, the basic platform used for the online monitoring of the technical condition of production machinery and equipment. In the past, it was used by the pressing shop, which expanded its extensive data collection to increase the usability of its machinery and equipment. The other part is a digital project copy for the PKM – Engine EA 211 department, which they use on their engine block production line. There, the new system monitors the machinery’s real-time condition, which it then evaluates. When any set limits are exceeded, it automatically enters its order into the AMU (Aplikace mobilní údržby – Mobile maintenance application) system. The equipment is then inspected by the maintenance personnel, which reduces any undesirable production downtime. The system visualisation also includes an alarm database, which helps with retrospective failure analysis. During the collection of production data, the current status of all the machinery is displayed via a clear layout of the entire line. In this way, the foreman can react more quickly to any potential issues and possibly re-organise the production flow. The system can display every machine in detail with its production profile, number of produced parts and cycle control.
Benefits
More effective downtime planning
Online system of the technical condition of machinery and equipment and access to extensive documentation
Failure notification
Increased usability of machinery and equipment

Water management at the Czech and Indian ŠKODA AUTO plants
n the occasion of World Water Day, the carmaker presented its projects that contribute to the economical use of natural resources at the ŠKODA AUTO and ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) production plants. Although water is an indispensable part of car production (e.g. filtration, varnishing and cooling), the carmaker can gradually reduce its consumption.
Thanks to modern technology, the carmaker recycles more than 45% of its annual water consumption.
After the implementation of innovative technologies between 2010 and 2020, the Czech plants reduced their water consumption for car production by almost 37 percent. A good example is the new Paint Shop, whose modern filtration systems treat wastewater, which is the reused within the Paint Shop. Residual paint contained in the air from the spray booths is removed so-called dry separation, where water is replaced by ground limestone, which is further used in the heating plant for flue gas desulphurisation. In addition, this filtration method does not produce any paint sludge as waste.
Water management in India
A significant step was also taken by SAVWIPL, which obtained a Net Water Positive certification for its Indian plants in Aurangabad and Pune from DQS India Pvt. Ltd. The operations of both these plants operate with zero discharge of wastewater, which, after cleaning, is fully used for watering the greenery. ED
World Water Day
The importance of life-giving water is traditionally commemorated on 22 March. Its theme is extremely topical this year – water loss due to the climate change and sustainable water management. That is why the motto is “Help the arid land”, as water is becoming an increasingly scarce natural resource in several parts of the world due to extreme weather fluctuations and drought. Water supplies are dwindling, boreholes and wells are drying up, and people in some areas are experiencing acute water shortages
The Green Age is coming
What a package of measures supporting a climate-neutral EU means for the carmaker
A t the end of 2019, the European Commission introduced its so-called Green New Deal for Europe, whose goal is to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. At the same time, there is a requirement for economic recovery and an improvement in the population’s health and quality of life. ŠKODA AUTO is already taking many of these topics into account.
The greatest challenge is the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent by 2030, which puts a lot of pressure on reducing CO2 emissions in transport. For ŠKODA brand, this means a greater share of electric cars. The Green New Deal for Europe emphasises the circular economy, that is, the transition to a clean circular economy. “ŠKODA AUTO will have to work more intensively on how to use its product material as long as possible – not only within the life cycle of the car itself but after its liquidation too”, explains Pavel Grmela from the PSU – Environmental and Work Protection department.
The transformation from coal energy to solutions based on renewable resources will have a significant impact. In this respect, the carmaker cooperates with ŠKO-ENERGO on several projects, for example, conversion of ŠKO-ENERGO boilers from coal combustion to biomass. It is also worth mentioning the reconstruction of its buildings. Within the EU, buildings account for around 35 percent of the total CO2 emissions due to heat losses. And yet, only a fraction of non-compliant buildings are repaired every year. In connection with the Green New Deal for Europe, the volume of renovated buildings should double to triple every year. ŠKODA AUTO will place emphasis not only on the thermal insulation of its buildings but also on the decarbonisation of its technologies related to heating and cooling. ED
Did you know that ...
... an example of the circular economy is the subsequent use of old batteries from electric cars? The Autodružstvo Podbabská Dealership has already joined the Second Life of Batteries project in cooperation with the VA – After Sales department. Discarded batteries are used, for example as energy storage.

Visiting the virtual showroom
Israeli start-up Matter Software has developed a unique online platform for ŠKODA car dealers
↑ The showroom of the Customer Centre in Mladá Boleslav already has a virtual appearance.
ast June, the team of Israeli developers won the COVID Mobility Race hackathon organised by ŠKODA AUTO DigiLab with their concept of a new online platform for the carmaker’s customers. Next, they prepared to introduce technology connecting the real world with the virtual environment in the pilot project phase. It will be possible to try this solution at www.skoda‑auto.cz in the coming days.
At a time when the measures against the spread of COVID-19 are significantly limiting car sales, virtual showrooms will let customers visit the dealerships and view the cars on offer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, without any restrictions. If they wish, clients can leave their contact details. Then they will be approached with the possibility of inspecting a specific car model. The customer can view the cars from all available angles, including the interior and the luggage compartment. They can also utilise a number of interactive features, including videos and audio recordings. In this way, the virtual showroom brings added value to authorised dealers even when the anti-coronavirus measures are no longer implemented, as they can put all sales information and digital tools in one place. This approach will help them to reach a younger generation of customers.
The system has a modular character, and the individual dealerships or importers, who will create their common platform for the local dealers on the market, can choose the scope of digital features according to their needs. The online car configurator or a test drive reservation, for example, can be integrated into the virtual showroom as well. The ŠKODA brand’s Israeli importer, Champion Motors, has already successfully launched the pilot project.
“The great benefit of the virtual showroom is that the ŠKODA dealers can stay in touch with their customers even during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, we’re broadening our horizons regarding our digital car sales, which will become more and more important in the future”, says Dana Plath, head of the VB – Business Development department.
“The unique thing about this project is that it is a platform as a service, where on one platform the customer gets access to all relevant information that they previously had to search for on various digital channels. The main benefit will be the data on customer behaviour and preferences that we obtain thanks to this platform. Data analytics and the subsequent prediction of customer behaviour in the digital environment are the biggest benefit of this technology from Israel”, says Jarmila Plachá, head of ŠKODA AUTO DigiLab. Let’s Deal with Prejudice
Working with unconscious prejudices is a cornerstone not only of employee development but also of corporate diversity and inclusion
o you know how unconscious prejudices relate to the development of diversity and inclusion and how ŠKODA AUTO works with them? The answer came from last year’s training, which the carmaker prepared in cooperation with ŠKODA AUTO University (ŠAVŠ). The 1,972 direct supervisors (from foremen to Board members) who were trained to work with unconscious prejudices by using the nudge management method graduated from this programme. It is based on a scientific study of human behaviour and applies management and organisation methods to naturally influence the subconscious behaviour of employees in a positive way. The trainers led trainings called Promoting Diversity and Working with Prejudices to Make the Team Work Better and used examples that describe 12 basic prejudice types (see the Twelve Basic Types of Prejudices column). They also initiated a discussion among the managers to reveal which unconscious prejudices ŠKODA AUTO employees have most often. These are mainly the first three listed in the column.
The goal is for all the employees to know that they are making decisions based on unconscious prejudices and are able to work with them.
This year, ŠAVŠ will continue with trainings relating to prejudices and work in collaboration with the SB/5 – Transformation and HR 4.0 departments. “Our goal is for the employees to know that we all make decisions based on unconscious prejudices. However, at certain key moments (e.g. the way we communicate during team meetings, strategic decisions, analyses, colleague selections etc.), it is important that we realise that we have these prejudices and are able to work with them. This requires time, humility, forethought and suitable tools – such as the nudge management method”, says Jan Kotík from the SB/5 department, which organises the trainings. Last year’s trainings are followed this year by e-Learning courses, where we will verify the minimum diversity standards on ŠKODA AUTO, and we will also acquaint colleagues with suggestions from last year’s events. “By having an awareness of our own prejudices, we can consciously create diverse teams and work with the individuality in each of us”, adds Kotík. ED
How diversity is important for ŠKODA AUTO
In a rapidly changing world, the number of decisions we must make is constantly increasing. To make things easier, we often use (both negative and positive) unconscious prejudices. However, the importance of diversity for ŠKODA AUTO is undeniable. If it wants to be successful in all the markets, it needs diverse people behind its products and services. If it wants to be innovative, it has to seek teams in which different opinions, experiences and world views meet.
Can you think of a situation where you have experienced unconscious prejudices in practice?
Do you have a tip on how to work with them? We will be happy to publish your suggestions on ŠKODA Space. E-mail them to us at e‑mail.
Dagmar Sieglová
ŠKODA AUTO University
The diversity training was unique in that it brought together leaders from across the entire carmaker who shared everyday practices and learned from and inspired each other. I enjoyed the open atmosphere and sincere interest in modern management approaches. The cooperation between ŠAVŠ and the carmaker offers a unique opportunity to connect practice with diversity ideas and to prepare for work with the human potential of the next generation of leaders.
Petr Spolek
SB – Operative HR Care, Digitisation, HR 4.0
Diversity trainings are part of a Group-wide initiative, and participation was mandatory for all the direct supervisors. At ŠKODA AUTO alone, the training involved almost 2,000 managers to help them to understand the current topic, lead by example and pass it on. The trainings enabled us to get valuable suggestions and reactions from our colleagues. They showed us where we can improve and what we need to work on.
Edita Weberová
EGV/1 – Prototype Production Preparation
Training on unconscious prejudices appealed to me. At the trainings, I appreciated the discussion and teamwork the most, as well as the opportunity to share experiences with colleagues. And why would I recommend a similar training to others? It made me think about how the topic concerns me, my team, and how important diversity is.
Twelve basic types of prejudices
1
Obedience to authority
The tendency to attach more importance to an authority figure’s opinion (or assume it is more accurate) regardless of the content and to be more influenced by that opinion.
Examples: “He knows what he’s doing; otherwise, he wouldn’t be sitting there.” “It sounds like nonsense to me, but the boss probably sees it in a broader context, so we’ll do it that way.”
2
Misleading planning
Tendency to underestimate the time required to complete a task.
Example: “I’m very optimistic when planning a project, and I believe that everything will go smoothly and without delay.” “We have plenty of time, so let’s leave it till Monday.”
3
Unchanged state
Tendency to like things as they have always been, resist change and give priority to established practices.
Examples: “It’s always been done that way, so let’s do it that way.” “The new system is absolutely terrible. I haven’t tried it yet, but I heard it doesn’t work.”
4
By similarity
Tendency to evaluate those who are like us and share our world view more positively.
5
Stereotyping
The expectation that a member of a group will have certain characteristics without having any real information about him/her.
6
Prioritising one’s own group
Tendency to prefer those who are part of our social group or team.
7
Ostrich effect
The decision to ignore danger or unpleasant information or situations by avoiding or denying them.
8
Confirming the selected information only
Prioritising information and interpretations that support our own opinion. Or, conversely, ignoring or underestimating those that go against our beliefs. Alternatively, ambiguous interpretation of the information so that it is in accordance with our opinion.
9
Transparency illusion
Overestimating others’ ability to properly understand my mental state, intentions or motivation.
10
Halo effect
Expectation that a group member will have certain positive or negative qualities without having any real information about him/her.
11
Not made by us
An aversion to using products, research, standards or knowledge developed by someone outside the group.
12
Herd effect
The tendency to do something or believe in something just because others do the same or believe in the same thing.

Let’s not forget mental health
Helping people is Kateřina Zemánková’s job
hile physical health is commonly talked about, and people keep discovering various preventive activities against physical diseases and problems, this is not the case when taking care of one’s soul. Kateřina Zemánková from the SG/3 – Ergonomics and Work Physiology department is involved, among other things, in the Stress Prevention and Mental Health Care project. “An aching soul is not as visible as a broken arm, for example, but it can take much longer to heal. I find it great that ŠKODA AUTO takes care of its employees in this regard as well. I know from my surroundings that this is definitely not the norm in the Czech Republic”, is how Kateřina, who supports a holistic view of human health (i.e. that physical and mental health are closely related) describes her mission at the carmaker.
I’m happy for every employee who visits our preventive events and is inspired to take care of their health.
She attaches great importance to the sense of responsibility that her parents instilled in her. She also feels responsible for her own health. “In my opinion, behaving responsibly means strengthening one’s immunity, eating healthy, moving, hardening, fighting obesity and keeping oneself physically and mentally fit.” Kateřina adds that personal responsibility must be supported from an early age. Her approach to life is also characterised by an effort to get things done and not to disappoint herself. She can also help herself by promising herself a reward for completing a challenging task. “Most often, chocolate or other good food, which I never want to miss, and that’s why I’m pretty strict with myself”, she says with a smile.
She perceives integrity as a wholeness in personal values. “They give me direction. They determine where I want to see myself and how to get there. In fact, I love doing everything I do. This is my basic mindset”, Kateřina says. Her inner compass also helps her at work when she finds herself in situations for which rules have not yet been set, and she has to decide according to her personal convictions. In such moments, she has a simple piece of advice: “I ask myself what advice I would give to my best friend. And I’m often guided by humility and hope as well”, she concludes. ED
T4I Programme from up close
The Together4Integrity (T4I) programme, on which we have been reporting regularly since the beginning of 2019, has reached the next stage. It was preceded by a period during which the VW Group, including ŠKODA AUTO, tested the implementation of the recommendations proposed by an independent compliance monitor. These tests led to the relevant certification being obtained. At the moment, the GO department, together with other departments, is working on existing and new measures of the T4I programme – not only in ŠKODA AUTO but also in other subsidiaries and entrusted companies.
For the sake of clarity, the programme’s measures are divided into 11 key initiatives, each focusing on different thematic areas. These include, for example, integrity, compliance, risk management, human resources, environmental protection, management of relationships with business partners etc. Their specific content is illustrated by a series of short articles prepared by the carmaker in cooperation with the VW Group, and they will be published on ŠKODA Space over time. You could already read the first one, “Together4Integrity Programme Strengthens Mutual Cooperation”, which provides general information on the T4I programme, in February. ED

Get the most out of your Office 365
The 365 ACADEMY platform will introduce you to the completely new ways of working offered by the Office application package
he basic principle is a simple one: all in one place. From video calls and new forms of online communication to sharing information, working on shared documents, entering and controlling tasks and working from home or on your phone. Office 365 is a suite of applications that are interconnected thanks to the cloud. They facilitate collaboration in teams and across departments, speed up and facilitate communication, enable access to work files from all business facilities and share them to work on documents together and in real time. This eliminates the risk of having different versions and related misunderstandings. The well-known programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, are complemented by others: OneDrive, Teams and SharePoint. However, it is not only about applications but, above all, about changing the way you think and work. The transition to new technologies is gradual and ongoing. The carmaker’s IT department is currently working on migrating e-mail boxes and has already moved approximately 21,000 out of a total of 28,000 target addresses. Licenses for other Office 365 functions will be available to all ŠKODA AUTO users by the end of March. So far, however, this is still a pilot operation, so it is not possible to store confidential and save data in applications.
It’s going to be hard without training
From Monday, 29 March, the ŠKODA Academy is offering the 365 ACADEMY qualification programme. It will first be available to all employees using a business computer at work, but others will also receive an interesting training programme from May onwards to increase their digital competencies. 365 ACADEMY is a platform with instructional videoclips on how the Office 365 tools work and how employees can use them effectively for their everyday work. This self-study will be complemented by inspiring online webinars and workshops. And for so-called digital talents who are more interested in modern technologies, an ambassador programme is being prepared. This programme will help them to spread digital enlightenment. The managers have a bootcamp to help them properly implement the new technologies in their teams.
The current coronavirus situation has only accelerated the trend of conventional workplaces switching to a digital environment. Therefore, everyone needs unrestricted access to data, a simple and effective environment for collaboration and good communication. If everyone on the team learns to use the new applications properly, they will also start to “think digitally”. And that should be the goal for all the managers. ED

Cloud
Working in the cloud is a new way to easily manage and share your documents. The greatest benefit is that the uploaded data are accessible from anywhere. They are stored automatically on a remote server, not on the hard drive of the device you use to access the data. This allows you to work from any trusted device that has access to the cloud. Your files uploaded to the cloud are easily shared with your colleagues, and you can edit it at the same time with a hassle.
OneDrive or SharePoint?
Office 365 offers two cloud storage sites. What is the difference between them? OneDrive is mostly used to store work documents that are created and edited primarily by their author. The author has standard access to the data and shares it with their colleagues only later. Every user gets 1 TB of personal space and, thanks to synchronisation, can access their data offline as well. SharePoint is designed for documents that the entire team should work on, including team plans, meeting minutes and project schedules. By default, all the team members have access to their data.
Office 365 on your mobile
The application can be fully controlled even on your smartphone or tablet. Thanks to this, you have your data available not only at the office but also on the road or during your business meetings. Office 365 works on both iOS and Android devices.
Smart e-mailing
Outlook in the Office 365 package is a modern, full-feature e-mail tool that is cloud-connected. It stays how you know it but also has a few functional innovations. Probably the most important one is the 100 times greater mailbox capacity: 100 GB. The FindTime – Reply with Meeting Poll feature makes it easier to find a common date for all the participants in a conversation. And in MS Teams, a new Calendar item in the right-hand column copies the Outlook calendar. It can create, edit and manage all your appointments, and it works on your mobile phone.

On 12 March 1991, the VW Group management team visited the Mladá Boleslav carmaker. At the time, there was no air connection, so they arrived in their own minibus.
On 28 March 1991, the Czech Minister of Industry, Jan Vrba, and the VW Group’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Carl Horst Hahn, signed an agreement to establish a joint venture for the production of ŠKODA cars.
The first car presented after the merger was the FELICIA, produced between 1994 and 2001. It was basically a major modernisation of the FAVORIT car.

Pořadatel si vyhrazuje právo i bez uvedení důvodů Dobu soutěže zkrátit, Soutěž přerušit nebo zrušit či změnit její Pravidla, a to i bez udělení výhry a bez poskytnutí náhrad. Pořadatel si rovněž vyhrazuje právo nahradit ohlášenou výhru předmětem podobného typu a odpovídající hodnoty a upravit podmínky předání výhry v případě, že výhra nebude poskytnuta způsobem umožňujícím předání výhry vítězům v souladu s těmito Pravidly.

Success in times of challenges
In mid-November, around 300 managers gathered at the Škoda Museum for a two-day meeting with the top management of the MMK. The opening session was addressed by Klaus Zellmer, Škoda Auto CEO, and Jaroslav Povšík, Chairman of the KOVO Trade Union. The theme of transformation guided the entire event, which included seminars, discussions and updates from various areas of the carmaker.
Compact but still spacious
The Kylaq, Škoda’s latest and smallest model, was unveiled in November. Measuring less than 4 metres in length, it targets the popular Indian market segment, with prices starting from CZK 220,000. The Kylaq introduces the new Modern Solid design language to India, along with the largest boot in its class and a wide range of equipment focused on safety, including six airbags.
IVET 2024 Innovation Fair
The 8th edition of IVET showcased 36 innovation themes, underscoring Škoda Auto’s commitment to practical advancements. New was a section dedicated to the Indian market and contributions from Group colleagues. The event also featured the presentation of the Elroq. From Simply Clever solutions to technical breakthroughs, the fair continued the tradition of innovations designed with customers in mind.
Chronicle of 2024
In 2024, Škoda Auto continued to launch new models while modernising its bestsellers. The carmaker also adopted a new design language, opened the Laurin & Klement Kampus, supported numerous charitable and sustainable projects, achieved many successes and celebrated several important anniversaries. Discover the highlights from the past year in this year’s Chronicle.
Kronika roku 2024
V roce 2024 Škoda Auto pokračovala v uvádění nových modelů a také v modernizaci bestsellerů. Automobilka navíc přešla na nový designový jazyk Modern Solid, otevřela Laurin & Klement Kampus, podpořila nespočet dobročinných i udržitelných projektů, dosáhla mnoha úspěchů a oslavila několik významných výročí. To nejdůležitější z právě končícího roku se dočtete v letošní kronice.
Launching a new era in India
Four metres is a critical threshold in the Indian automobile market and its segment with this maximum length accounts for nearly 30%. Škoda Auto is entering this segment with the new compact SUV, the Kylaq, which is developed and manufactured in India specifically to cater to the preferences of local customers. This launch follows the earlier introductions of the Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan.
Conquering the French market
More than half a million visitors flocked to the Paris Motor Show in October, where global carmakers were in attendance. The Škoda Auto stand featured the new electric Elroq, which garnered much attention. Other cars from Škoda’s portfolio were also on display, including a specially modified fourth-generation Superb for the Tour de France race director and the Fabia RS Rally2 competition special.
Reducing software complexity
The second of the Brand Group Core’s six strategic packages is titled Reducing Complexity and focuses primarily on software. The increasing number of drives and assistance systems and the integration of other vehicle functions have led to a complex array of software variants. The aim of reducing the number of software variants is to decrease costs and enhance cybersecurity.
A look inside the battery
The new tomography centre in Hall M6 allows for non-destructive testing of the quality of MEB’s electric platform batteries. Škoda Auto inaugurated this state-of-the-art facility in June this year, and there may not be another facility like it in any other carmaker. Historically, the industry has employed computed tomography technology, or CT scanning, mainly for smaller parts.
Pohled do útrob baterie
