ŠKODA AUTO EMPLOYEES COLLECT

GREENERY
AROUND US
P
SZ – Central Technical Service is in
charge of maintaining and developing greenery at ŠKODA AUTO plants. It
is about improving not just the environment but also the safety of employees, the
sustainability of green areas, the vitality
of trees and the functionality of vegetation elements.
The PSZ department regularly performs a professional assessment of the
greenery on all of ŠKODA AUTO’s premises once a year. A dendrological survey
is conducted by a certified arborist and
an authorised landscape architect. Together with the PSZ Expert Team, they
give appropriate treatment and care, including security measures. In addition to
the inventory, the survey includes data related to the actual physiological state of
the woody plants, with dendrological or
landscape value.
In total, the Central Technical Service takes care of about 1,400 trees and
570,000 m2 of other vegetation elements
in the area of the main plant – shrubs,
hedges, lawns, vines and seasonal greenery. Rarely, there are four extraordinarily valuable tree species – two dawn redwoods at the H2 and H3 buildings, the
black mulberry at the V13 and the white
mulberry at the D19 parking lot, mainly distinguished by their crown, growth,
age and ecological value. The planting
of trees has been done since 2015; so far,
377 trees have been planted at the Mladá
Boleslav plant and 93 in Vrchlabí. Places
for new planting are set by the PSZ department in cooperation with PPB – Construction and Infrastructure Planning and
ŠKO-ENERGO. OLGA CHARVÁTOVÁ

ŠKODA MOBIL APRIL 2018
D
uring the weekend of 7
and 8 April, more than
200 employees and their
family members, as well as a large
team of company trainees, participated in the nationwide “Clean up
the Czech Republic” event: 113 in
Mladá Boleslav and 94 in Kvasiny.
The carmaker has been supporting this activity for the fourth
year. The aim is to clean up illegally generated black dumps and
clutter in selected locations, mostly in parks and woods.
Seven tonnes of waste
This year, the volunteers focused
on the Vrchbělá area near Mladá
Boleslav, in Bělá pod Bezdězem.
Previously, there was a military area, and now it offers a sports
and recreation area with a hotel, a
rope park, a lookout tower, in-line
skating trail and a mini zoo. It is
a popular destination for families
with children and at the same time
home to endangered populations
of exceptional fauna and flora.
On Saturday, mostly old tyres, wires and iron were collected – more
than 6 tonnes of waste in total.
Another group helped to clean
up the surroundings of the plant
in Kvasiny, around the railway station and the Kvasiny–Rychnov bicycle trail and in the castle garden. As a result, they collected
1.03 tonnes of waste. Altogether,
for both cities, over 7 tonnes of
waste, equivalent to approximately 34 kg of waste per volunteer,
was collected.
“ŠKODA AUTO appreciates the
character of this event and gives
thanks all the participants, especially our employees, who contributed along with significant support from the social partner of the
KOVO Trade Unions to clean up
and improve our living space. Environmentally and socially responsible behaviour is a priority for the
carmaker,” says Bohdan Wojnar,
ŠKODA AUTO Board Member for
Human Resources Managements.
Great autumn cleaning
On 6 October, as part of other
cleaning activities a large cleaning of the Krkonoše National
Park will take place and will be
attended by volunteers from the
Vrchlabí plant. The carmaker has
long been involved in the national
park, among other things, with
the ŠKODA Trees project, under
which one tree is planted for each
car sold in the Czech Republic. In
addition, the carmaker participates in many projects dedicated to
reclamation and conservation of
woods biodiversity. RED
