In 2018, we invested EUR 17.1 million in social development. The number of activities this year is staggering. At the beginning of July, we’re going to open
the ‘Nová Lakovna C18’ restaurant. Right now, we
are rebuilding the canteen at the third gate, as well
as the kiosks in the Welding and Paint Shops in
Kvasiny. In time, the staff will learn about everything
in ŠKODA Mobil. The main focus, together with
our social partner KOVO Trade Unions, is the staff
and the region’s inhabitants because their opinions
and needs are of the utmost importance. Therefore,
we’ve initiated a fund with the ambition to make
Mladá Boleslav and its wider region more attractive.
How can the ŠKODA AUTO Endowment Fund
help improve lives in the Mladá Boleslav region?

If we want it to be successful, our key partners,
such as the Czech government, the Central Bohemian Region, specific towns and municipalities
and other regional entrepreneurial entities, must
give us a hand. We are in dialogue, we’re looking
for opportunities for development projects and discussing their financing. Within the campaign ‘Ten
Weeks for the Mladá Boleslav Region’, we asked
the locals in an online survey what is bothering them and what can be improved. The participation rate exceeded our expectations! In the end,
2,300 contributions arrived, which served as a base
for the first wave of projects (see Column).

Your department is tasked with supporting
an open corporate culture and social
responsibility for things around you. Which of
the projects from this area do you like?
Apart from the biggest “innovation” (the fund), it is
a group of projects within the ‘For Future’ social responsibility strategy. As part of technical education,
we support the strategic development of schools
in working on their strengths and improving their
weaknesses. This year, the 19 schools that are already supported will be joined by another five. We
also focus on barrier-free mobility development. We
cooperate with the Czech Paraplegics Association,
Centrum Paraple and Konto bariéry foundations, rehabilitation centres and more recently with the Cesta
za snem association to help people with disabilities
and those around them to improve their world view,
chances and quality of life and overcome their limitations. I am also happy about the public reactions
to our activities in the area of traffic education and
prevention thanks to the Safe Friday project.

I appreciate that they take part in the donations. It is
only thanks to them that we’ve reached an important
milestone and donated the sum of CZK 20 million!
This year, we’re opening another round, and I hope
that the next milestone is coming sooner than in five
years’ time. The staff are ready to help, and I gladly join them, for example in cleaning up the area of
the plants as part of the ‘Clean the World, Clean the
Czech Republic’ initiative. This year, we collected an
unbelievable 1.5 tonnes of waste in the area of Mladá
Boleslav and Kvasiny alone. I particularly look forward to next year, when the ŠKODA Trees project will
facilitate the planting of the millionth tree. RED
