Where ŠKODA cars are produced in China
The four production locations of partner company SAIC VOLKSWAGEN
he most populous country in the world has been our largest market for the past 10 years. The ŠKODA brand offers the SUPERB, OCTAVIA, RAPID and RAPID SPACEBACK on the market, as well as three SUVs (KODIAQ, KAROQ, KAMIQ) and modified versions with sporty bodies (KODIAQ GT and KAMIQ GT). In China, the carmaker operates through its joint venture, SAIC Volkswagen, which is based in Anting, a suburb of Shanghai. The cars of the Czech brand are manufactured alongside Volkswagen models in four Chinese cities. Let’s get to know them together. ED

Nanjing
The former capital of many dynasties and kingdoms is one of the centres of Chinese culture, education and research. The production of Czech cars has the longest tradition here.
Start of operation: April 2008

Ningbo
This city has one of the busiest ports in the world, and the local production plant can boast of a major milestone: In July this year, the 3 millionth ŠKODA car rolled off the production line in China. It was a KAROQ.

Yizheng
It is the smallest of the Chinese plants where ŠKODA cars are made. The city of 600,000 inhabitants lies on the banks of the world’s third-longest river, the Yangtze, near Nanjing. It was here that the carmaker produced its 1 millionth car in China in July 2013.

Changsha
The history of this inland city, which is now one of the fastest-growing in the world, dates back over 3,000 years. By contrast, it has the newest Group plant producing ŠKODA cars in China. KODIAQ, the largest brand's SUV, can be seen here "disassembled" into parts – see photo above.

Paying a virtual visit
Journalists were given an opportunity to look into the production of ŠKODA cars with an interactive tour
isitors could use the innovative arrangement to walk through the factory as if they paid a visit in person and could meet local experts face to face. The journalists could click through to various locations where the experts introduced their sections. One of the modern production plants manufacturing ŠKODA cars is located in Changsha. Visitors on the virtual tour learned about the KODIAQ production line. They had a look at the unique presses giving shape to the contours of this SUV’s elegant body, how extremely durable paint is applied and how laser welding takes place. Journalists and other interested visitors saw first-hand that every production step is monitored by a number of smart solutions with the strictest quality standards applied. By entering their telephone numbers, interested visitors can continue to have access to the virtual tour, which uses the environment of the Chinese social media platform WeChat. ED
