Sustainable Transport

Take Part in European Mobility Week

In the second half of September, European Mobility Week will highlight sustainable transport options and give everyone the chance to try out alternative modes. Besides challenges like Bike to Work, you can also test car-sharing and other internal mobility options, which are handled by the BAR – Real Estate Asset and Travel Management department at Škoda Auto. This department operates an internal car rental service that provides employees with a car for business travel or a spare car during repairs and servicing of assigned company cars. Through this department, employees can even rent a car for their wedding day and, subject to availability, for private use. For short-term mobility on business trips, this department also operates the Škoda Click car-sharing programme.

Škoda Click

The initial idea of internal car-sharing emerged from a collaboration among several teams across the departments who together were looking for a technical solution for car sharing. Eventually, the solution was tailor-made for the carmaker in cooperation with the Technical University of Liberec (TUL).

The innovative Škoda Click carsharing platform is gradually replacing the system of departmental centre cars. Shared mobility aligns with Škoda Auto’s strategy in several aspects: It contributes to sustainability and simplifies and streamlines processes by digitising them. An AI scheduler running in the background of the app optimises car utilisation when planning journeys from point A to point B, leading to greater efficiency and making mobility accessible to more employees.

Currently, there are 5,000 registered users sharing a total of 153 cars in Mladá Boleslav, Prague, Vrchlabí and Kvasiny. The fleet mainly consists of Scala models, with Enyaq models included to promote electromobility. In Kvasiny, employees even have an exclusively electrified fleet. In this way, Škoda Auto allows employees to experience the latest models and their driving characteristics firsthand.

Further expansion of the project is planned for later this year. “Together with TUL, we’ve developed a next-generation car-sharing unit that includes a state-of-the-art GPS antenna and a GSM module supporting 5G networks, requiring only 12 V to power it. The MFA card reader remains an integral part, essential for the two-factor authentication of users. Bluetooth functionality is ready to be developed for locking and unlocking the car without a GSM signal. Current car data is pumped into the Škoda Click app via the Connect service,” says Lucie Pohlová, Expert Coordinator Click and car rental from the BAR department.

You will be kept informed about the progress of the car-sharing project expansion via internal communication channels. You can already take an active part by filling out the questionnaire available on Škoda Space, where more information about the Škoda Click programme is provided. You can also fill out the questionnaire here.

European Mobility Week

Taking place from 16 to 22 September to raise awareness of sustainable mobility, highlight transport problems and seek solutions that are friendly to both the climate and the environment. It is also an ideal opportunity to explore alternative modes of transport. In the Czech Republic, well-known challenges include Walk to School, Bike to Work, the Ten Thousand Steps Challenge and Experience the City Differently. The traditional culmination of European Mobility Week is International Car Free Day, which falls on 22 September.
