Skating Into a New Era
A place that had been home to the local skateboarding community for twenty years has been given a modern makeover.
A modern concrete skatepark was officially opened in Mnichovo Hradiště, with construction supported by the Škoda Auto Endowment fund. The new facility was built on the site of the original skatepark dating from 2006, which had no longer met technical or sporting requirements.
The town therefore worked together with the local community to develop a modern reinforced-concrete sports venue. The result is approximately 900 square metres of surfaces featuring jumps, steps, obstacles and other elements for skateboarders, scooter riders, BMX cyclists and inline skaters. The opening ceremony was attended by town representatives, local athletes, residents and project supporters, including representatives of the Škoda Auto Endowment fund. The programme included rider exhibitions, competitions for children, a graffiti workshop and the creation of a mural live during the event.
"It is important to our foundation that people spend time actively and outdoors, and that different generations come together in the process. Here we can see that this has been achieved. A place from which life was gradually fading has been given new energy," said Ladislav Kučera, Director of the Škoda Auto Endowment fund. Thanks to the modern facilities, the local community has gained a space that meets contemporary standards and can serve the next generation of athletes.
