Four Years in the Making with the Peaq
The project, originally named Space BEV, was managed by a team from the G35 department. From left: Marek Jež, Jiří Jiřikovský, Ludmila Prokopiusová, Omar Magomedov and Václav Vojtěch.
The project for the new seven-seat SUV has been guided over the past four years by a project team from the G35 – Space BEV Model Line division. "It is a typical Škoda vehicle at the intersection of segments: it brings the customer the best of more expensive competitors – above all comfort and quality materials – while also offering an excellent balance of price, practicality and Simply Clever innovation," says Marek Jež, head of G35. One of the challenges, he notes, was convincing colleagues at the carmaker that a vehicle conceived in precisely this way would be the right addition to the Škoda portfolio and would prove successful. "The fact that the effort has paid off is also demonstrated by the fact that the Peaq project will further strengthen Škoda's profitability position, thereby setting the direction for future projects," adds M. Jež.
The model incorporates solutions that are more commonly found in higher-category vehicles. These include a large panoramic roof, relaxation seats, a modern version of Qi2 wireless phone charging, a digital key, and wipers with integrated washers.
Great emphasis was placed on the seven-seat configuration. "We are building on the success story of the Kodiaq, where 40 % of customers choose the seven-seat variant. We focused on enlarging the interior so that even long journeys with a full complement of passengers would be comfortable," explains M. Jež. In the third row, passengers have up to eight centimetres more space than in the Kodiaq, and in the second row almost six centimetres more.
