We Made the Heart of a Czech Cathedral Sing
Škoda Auto has become the general partner of the new organ project at St Vitus, St Wenceslaus and St Adalbert Cathedral. Alongside financial support, the carmaker also contributed design expertise, which is reflected in the crystal elements of the instrument.
After more than ten years of preparation, the new organ has sounded in St Vitus, St Wenceslaus and St Adalbert Cathedral - in a series of concerts for donors that kicked off with a mass on 15 June and culminated in a concert attended by the Škoda Auto leadership.
This unique instrument, which crowns more than 700 years of history of the most important Czech sacred building, came into being thanks to the support of Škoda Auto.
The car maker became the general partner of the project and also contributed its own expertise. Alongside organ builder Gerhard Grenzing, the Škoda Design team played a part in shaping the instrument, designing 200 crystal components. These were crafted at the Ajeto glassworks in Lindava and give the instrument its unmistakable character.
"It is fitting that the new St Vitus organ will bear the imprint of Czech design, in which modern architecture and the technical possibilities of the 21st century are blended, with great humility, with honest craftsmanship," said Klaus Zellmer, Škoda Auto CEO.
It is precisely this combination of tradition and innovation that led Škoda Auto to become part of this extraordinary initiative - one whose results future generations will also be able to admire.
