The Key You Carry in Your Phone
The digital key lets you unlock, start and even share your car directly from your smartphone or watch. You don't need to carry the classic key with you at all.
1 You'll find the digital key in the Wallet app, from where you can use, manage and share it.
2 Bringing the phone close to the car activates unlocking via Bluetooth and UWB technology. For NFC technology, you need to hold the phone against the driver's door handle.
3 The equipment also includes a backup NFC service card for situations where sharing the digital key is not practical.
A Practical Solution
The digital key lets you easily share your car with family via the Wallet app, your favourite messaging service or email, optionally with an activation code for extra security. When handing over your car to a parking service or for a service inspection, the digital key doesn't need to leave your phone – simply use the temporary NFC access card. If you lose your phone or it gets stolen, you can easily deactivate the key pairing directly in the app. The digital key is currently available on electric Škoda models.
How It Works
1 After registering in the MyŠkoda app, you need to pair the key and add it to the Wallet app, where you can use, manage and share it. Once the key is activated, no internet connection is needed to use it.
2 The digital key uses Bluetooth and UWB (Ultra-Wideband) technology or NFC (Near Field Communication), depending on the compatibility of your mobile phone. The car has four UWB sensors that detect the phone's signal at a distance of about 1–2 metres and activate keyless access – just like with a physical key.
3 When using NFC technology, you need to hold the phone against the driver's door handle and then place it in the mobile phone compartment. NFC only works in the immediate vicinity of the door handle.
4 Bluetooth technology lets you lock and unlock the doors and open the boot directly in the Wallet app. Keyless access via Bluetooth alone is not available; UWB technology is also required for that.
50 m
The usual minimum distance from which the doors can already be locked or unlocked, or the boot opened, via the Wallet app using Bluetooth Low Energy technology.
Did you know that a digital key with NFC technology still works for several hours even after the phone has been completely drained, if you hold it against the driver's door handle?
Other Ways to Unlock the Car
Even with cars that have a digital key, the owner still has a physical key. It's needed when changing the car's settings, for example changing the main user. A convenient option is the KESSY Advanced solution, which uses sensors in the door handles for keyless unlocking and locking. It allows automatic unlocking when you approach with the key at a distance of 1–1.5 metres, and locking when you move away.
