What Can a Sustainable Interior Look Like?
The Epiq, which the carmaker began producing in series in May, shows how important a role the materials a car is made from play. It is the first series-production Škoda model that uses no materials of animal origin.
Instead of traditional leather, the interior uses Techtona, a modern material that is an alternative to synthetic leather. In the Epiq you will find it on the dashboard, in the door trims and in other parts of the interior.
Recycled materials also play an important role in this car. All the textile seat upholstery is made from 100% recycled polyester fibres, which come, for example, from used PET bottles. A single car contains more than 34 kilograms of these materials, roughly the weight of four to five crates full of PET bottles.
Recycled materials are not hidden only in the seat covers, though. You will also find them in a number of Simply Clever solutions, for example in the parking ticket holder, the umbrella stored in the door or the ice scraper. The Epiq is proof that a more sustainable approach need not mean compromises. Here, recycled materials and new alternatives help reduce the car’s environmental footprint without taking anything away from quality, comfort or practicality.
