Every day they handle hundreds of transports between halls, warehouses and production shops. Most employees take the lorries of in-plant transport for granted, yet without them production would come to a halt within moments. Their job is to make sure that parts, materials and finished components are always in the right place at the right time. The precision and reliability of these transports is one of the conditions for smooth production.

On 14 July, Škoda Auto took delivery of a total of 24 new Scania and MAN lorries. This equipment is gradually replacing the fleet that had served the carmaker since 2013. The modern vehicles are a better match for the plant's current logistics needs and, with new technologies, they offer more reliable operation, lower running costs and greater comfort for drivers. The fleet includes both rigid lorries and tandem combinations, plus one semi-trailer unit, which makes it possible to respond flexibly to the various types of transport within the plant.
The fleet of new vehicles with Škoda brand livery is already supplying the entire Mladá Boleslav plant.
In-plant transport is one of the invisible but absolutely essential links in production. Every day it handles up to 600 transports and serves more than 70 loading and unloading points at the Mladá Boleslav plant. Over a year, the vehicles cover almost half a million kilometres. All of this in continuous coordination with production and warehouse management, where every delay can affect the processes that follow.
The fleet renewal is also another step in delivering the Next Level – Škoda Strategy 2030. More modern vehicles will help cut emissions by 14.5% and reduce the overall environmental footprint of operations, supporting the company's long-term goal of running logistics more efficiently and more sustainably. “The new vehicles are not just a technology upgrade. They are an investment in safer, more efficient and more sustainable operations. Every transport completed without a hitch We help keep production moving, and that is our main goal,” says Luboš Doleček, Head of PL – Brand Logistics.

I have recently been driving a Scania combination and I appreciate its ADR equipment, because the vehicle is also intended for carrying dangerous goods, such as batteries. But the new functions of the vehicle, the kind you also know from ordinary cars, are great too. They come in handy especially on morning shifts, when the plant is really busy and we as drivers have to concentrate hard on the traffic around us.

I have worked in in-plant transport since 2005 and have already been through three fleet renewals. I am glad that we now have Group vehicles, which we are effectively testing in fairly extreme conditions. We may not cover as many kilometres as other vehicles, but thanks to frequent use and increasingly limited space, we probably get to know best what they are capable of.
