Recycled Plastics: What's Next?

Systematic staff development is one of the long-term pillars of the Procurement division. One of the most important areas is professional training, which responds to the current challenges of the automotive industry as well as the changing legislative and technological environment.

This is where the Procurement Academy from the BZ – Procurement Central Function department plays a key role; under the leadership of Iva Hamerle and in collaboration with a number of internal and external experts, it prepares targeted training activities for the Procurement teams. One of the significant projects is the educational miniseries From Trash to Treasure. It focuses on the possibilities of using plastics and their recycled materials in the automotive industry. Increasing the share of recycled plastics — including materials from a closed-loop system, i.e., from end-of-life vehicles — is currently one of the main challenges facing the automotive industry.

An important part of the "From Trash to Treasure" miniseries seminars are practical demonstrations directly on a Škoda vehicle.

The series takes a comprehensive approach to the topic — linking technological realities, the legislative framework and specific practical examples. Expert video materials focused on recycling, which were produced directly at supplier companies specifically for this series, provide exceptional added value and offer an authentic look into real-world practice. The miniseries has had two successful runs so far. Following an introductory theoretical block in March, the April session focused on the entire production chain. Its first part was dedicated to plastics processing technologies and also touched on very practical topics, such as the impact of the materials used on production, quality and sustainability.

The series will be available as part of a professional development track on the Degreed platform, enabling its further use and systematic integration into Purchasing's development activities. The "From Trash to Treasure" educational miniseries is currently unparalleled within the VW Group and represents a unique example of the integration of technical know-how, supply chain practice and strategic sustainability topics.
