Bike-sharing Continues to Grow in the Region
A memorandum regarding bike-sharing was signed by representatives of the Škoda Auto Endowment fund and the governor of the Hradec Králové Region.
In the Hradec Králové Region, thanks to cooperation with the Škoda Auto Endowment fund (NFŠA), the bike-sharing network is expanding significantly. While in 2024 the service was available in eight municipalities with 526 bikes, this year 16 municipalities have joined and a total of 714 bikes are now available to the public.
Representatives of the region and the NFŠA signed a new memorandum of cooperation in April, building on the previous agreement from 2024 and extending the partnership through 2029. In addition to supporting shared mobility, it also focuses on regional development, education, innovation and the cultural and creative sectors.
The new memorandum envisages broader cooperation in the areas of regional development, education, innovation and the cultural and creative sectors.
The Škoda Auto Endowment fund has been active since 2018 in regions where Škoda Auto has its production plants. In the bike-sharing programme, it covers part of the operating costs — municipalities can receive a grant of up to 70% of costs, up to 750,000 crowns, with the foundation contributing one-fifth.
Bike-sharing helps reduce traffic congestion, especially in city centres, and promotes sustainable mobility. All municipalities in the region can participate in the project, with users enjoying the first 15 minutes of riding for free.
Further development of the project was also discussed on 24 April during the launch of the new bike-sharing season in the region at the castle in Rychnov nad Kněžnou. The event included a presentation of the grant programme, experiences with bike-sharing and a group ride on shared bikes.
